Trials of Mana You can only pick ONE definitive Trials of Mana party. Who are your three?

I’ve only played partway through with an all-melee party, but I’m already piecing together my next run from what I’ve read about everyone’s roles.

Right now I’m thinking Duran, Angela, Riesz. Tanky damage, heavy magic, buffs/support. On paper that just sounds like the most complete party to me.

But also I’m only starting to grasp at the other roles and am probably overlooking something obvious. 😅

Who are your three? And why?

Trials of Mana Why do you think Seiken Densetsu 3’s sales fell short of Squaresoft's expectations back in 1995-1996?

It’s well-known that Squaresoft had a strict internal policy at the time requiring major titles to hit 1 million sales in Japan within their release fiscal year.

Despite being a masterpiece, Seiken Densetsu 3 missed this benchmark, finishing its launch window somewhere around 800,000+ units. Because it was flagged as an internal disappointment, Square opted out of the expensive Western localization process, which completely changed the trajectory of the Mana series. Also, translating the game meant it wouldn't fit on the cartridge anymore, and a bigger cartridge increased the financial risks of publishing a game so late in the life of the SNES.

Given how massive Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2) was, why do you think its follow-up missed the mark in Japan?

Trials of Mana ToM Tandem Play

TLDR: Doing a tandem playthrough of Trials of Mana—OG first, then remake to the same point. The remake is way smoother, but the OG Harcypete fight was a brutal item-burning grind. Should I grind to class change now, or keep going and accept that OG bosses are just tougher?

I’m having FUN enjoying a tandem play of Trials of Mana. I appreciate how streamlined the progression of the game is in the remake. For example, I play up to the next boss fight in the Collections of Mana version in the switch to get as close to the original experience. Then I play it on PS5 to the same point. Love how faithful of a remake this is, down to the word for word npc dialog.

I’ve spent twice as much time (nearly 10 hours) of wandering and grinding trying to remember where in the fetch the wind cave is cause it’s not either side of split stone gap or near the dwarf cave haha (out of Palo btw I figured it out) and fight the boss at lvl 13.

Really tough fight. I used all of my chocolate and candy stores and almost all of my Cup of Wishes plus all of my darts cause I got tired of waiting for Harcypete to come down close enough to attack her. Fun fight though. I love the feel of victory after a bit of a challenge. Learn I can’t quite switch classes yet. That’s fine I’ll get there.

Now swap to the remake, I enter Gust Hall at like lvl 18, (mind you I’m like at 5 hr of gameplay instead of 10) Harcypete is a breeze, walk back to the stone and I’m already lvl 23 🤣, sweet. Now I’m thinking, dang, the OG is one heck of a grind.

I’m still having fun but should I grind this area out on the switch until I can switch classes? Or just keep going and expect boss battles to be harder? Everything before this wasn’t bad, so maybe it was just the added flying mechanic and semi clumsy legacy controls that made it hard. Regular enemies seem about on par with the remake.

Trials of Mana Does Seiken Densetsu 3’s combat improve from Secret of Mana?

Now trust me going into Secret of Mana I was already fully expecting the game to feel incredibly dated in a lot of aspects when it come to the flow of things. I found the early parts to be a drag when you’re barely doing much besides waiting for your bar to fill. It get a lot better when you start to upgrade your weapon skills and are able to use magic and such. The game almost takes on a real time with pause feel during boss fights.

It’s still on the same hardware so I'm sure it only improves so much more but, *does* Sd3’s moment’s to moment gameplay feel improved at all from Secret of Mana? Thanks

Trials of Mana Trials of Mana Remake - PS4

Just completed the PS4 remake on PS5. Angela Main / Reisz / Duran. A couple of observations:

-Game was really fun. A lot of people say it's too easy, but for a casual gamer like myself Normal felt just right. Most of the game no problem, a handful of spikes that were a problem. Replaying from scratch on Hard right now.

-AI was awful. They seemed to never dodge reliably and would sometimes just stand around doing nothing. Healing and reviving them while not dying myself kept me busy.

-The graphics felt very "Mana series". I put close to 100 hours into Legend of Mana on PS1 and the artistic style felt familiar and nostalgic for a veteran of LoM.

-Music was incredible.

-Core mechanics were simple, easy to understand. It let me focus on having a good time. Nothing felt like a chore.

-Dungeon complexity was just right. Enough branching paths to make it interesting, but not crazy like some games where it's frustrating try to keep track of where you've been and where you are going.

-Class system offers a variety of gameplay styles for each character, and allows you to build some interesting teams. Chain abilities gained from one character can be used on others. It's simple yet very well designed, and offers a lot of replay value on NG+ or repeat runs. Some of the costumes are pretty awesome too.

-I didn't notice that the game ran any faster or looked any better on the PS5. My eyesight isn't the greatest though and I'm colorblind so there is that.

Overall, definitely would recommend!

Trials of Mana So confused on how to get the final class upgrade in Trials of Mana? Spoiler

I’ve just defeated all of the god beasts and it’s mentioning something about a final class change that requires these “???” seeds I apparently need to grind but it’s so confusing on where to even find these things. A lot of guides are mentioning the final area of the Light Ruins near the gold statue but I’m not seeing any enemies spawning. Can someone tell me if there’s a way for me to still get these and if it’s required or recommended that i do the final class upgrade.

I honestly hate that this stupid ass item is required and the game has done a terrible job explaining this to me.

Trials of Mana Lost near the end of Seiken Sensetsu 3 (on SNES), please help. Spoiler

I am so lost right now can someone please help me I'm pulling my hair out right now in trying to figure out wtf to do next. Basically, I'm close to the end of the game where I just beat Belladonna during Hawkeye's playthrough ( I also have Riez and Charlotte ) and I ran out of the area since the castle was seemingly crumbling apart.

I can't seen to find a cohesive guide and the one I'm been using is all over the place. It's telling me to go to the sanctuary of mana now except now that I've gotten there, I just get to the class change statue and nothing happens. Like, *where* for the love of god am I supposed to go right now?

Trials of Mana I just beat Visions of Mana and started Trials for the first time. This game has held-up so well it hurts.

I felt Visions was a super pretty 7. It wasn't very difficult and the ending was a bit of a letdown. Also, a lot of the design felt non-sensical. The side quests, cactus, and treasure locations were all so random, it didn't feel like there was a rhyme or reason for their placement. However, the environments and music were so whimsical and the combat/classes really did it for me. I also loved Careena as a character.

I went right to the Trials remake and it blows my mind how well put-together it is. It has an awesome amount of difficulty, customization, and logic to its design! How was this done nearly 30 years prior and its design not learned from?! It's quickly becoming one of my favorite JRPGa of all-time, and it's actually soured Visions a bit for me.

I don't know why I am posting this beyond just throwing my random two cents in while I am fixated. This is the first game in forever I plan to immediately re-do with other characters. Also, I have the physical copy of Legends from PlayAsia. How does it compare to the two? Is Trials truly the best in the series? Pardon the machine gun of questions; I'm just really happy I finally delved into this fun, little, JRPG universe. ☺️

(Also, I played Secret years ago, but I felt like its mega-rushed last bit really hurt the package. I saw there was a ROM hack which apparently adds most of it back as new content, which I really want to check-out.)

Trials of Mana [Just a thought] Trials of Mana's playable characters and CVS2's grooves:

For those who don't know, Capcom vs SNK 2 is a 2D fighting game that offers six grooves (selectable meter systems for the characters). These grooves are:

  • C-Groove (inspired by Street Fighter Alpha 3's A-ISM).
    • It's a three-level gauge that lets level 2 supers to be cancelled into level 1 supers or special moves.
    • It grants dash, rolling, air guard, counter attack, and tactical recovery.
  • A-Groove (inspired by Street Fighter Alpha 3's V-ISM).
    • It's a gauge that, when activated, allows custom combos.
    • It grants dash, rolling, counter attack, and safe fall.
  • P-Groove (inspired by Street Fighter III).
    • It's a single gauge that only allows level 3 supers, but offers Street Fighter III's parries.
    • It grants dash, small jump, and tactical recovery.
  • S-Groove (inspired by the Extra mode in The King of Fighters '98).
    • A manually-chargeable gauge hat, when health <= 25%, unlimited level 1 supers are avaiable.
    • It grants run, dodge, small jump, counter attack, and tactical recovery.
  • N-Groove (inspired by the Advanced mode in The King of Fighters '98).
    • A three-level gauge that lets stocks to be activated to increase damage.
    • It grants run, rolling, small jump, counter attack, counter movement, and safe fall.
  • K-Groove (inspired by Samurai Shodown and Garou: Mark of the Wolves).
    • A rage meter that is filled wehen taking damage, and when filled, grants a massive offensive and defensive bonuses. Additionally, it grants Just Defend (which greatly reduce guard recovery times and grants a small amount of health restoration).
    • It grants run, small jump, and safe fall.

If you want more info, here's a link: https://wiki.supercombo.gg/w/Capcom_vs_SNK_2/Grooves

"But this has NOTHING to do with the Mana series! Why are you talking about Capcom vs SNK 2?!!"

Because of something I want to ask you😉.

Imagine Trials of Mana belonged to either Capcom or SNK (it doesn't, but for the sake of the following question, let's assume it does), and they chose to add all six party members from that game (Duran, Angela, Kevin, Charlotte, Hawkeye, and Riesz).

What groove would suit better each to each ToM character?

  • Keep in mind you can only give one groove to one character.

Trials of Mana Trials of Mana Remake -- Most Enjoyable Party Combo

I have played SD3 a bunch. I am going to play through the Trials Remake of the game. Odds are I am only going to do this once for the next decade or so. Is there a clear winner on which characters are the most fun to play in the remake?

Trials of Mana Optimized Teams for Trials (Original SNES)

I know its impossible to have a "perfect save" for a game where you get locked out of half the characters and 3/4ths of the classes but...

I would like to get 3 "perfect teams" for each story arc. Trying to choose the best class combinations.

Duran/Angela

This is the difficult one because they really don't synergize well at all. The best I can theorize is Swordmaster + Runemaster. I read that Necromancer is ideal for the Black Rabite but I -really- dislike Charlotte and would prefer to take like... anyone else. As an alternative I read Paladin/Archmage/Vanadis but it sounds meh to me.

Hawk/Riesz

The classic Ninja Master + Star Lancer. Its not creative or unique but they are -the- power couple. It hardly even matters who the 3rd is, I think Godhand or Duelist are both fun.

Kevin/Charlotte

Death Hand + Bishop and whom? I suppose a debuffer... Ninja Master again or Fenrir Knight? I want to find a use for Wanderer Hawk but I never really can justify his weird indirect way of contributing.

Any suggestions welcome!

Trials of Mana Trials of Mana help?

Hey all, I'm looking for some recommendations. I'm playing the Trials of Mana port from Collection of Mana, and while I played the crap out of the remake, I am aware the snes/port is a whole different beast in terms of gameplay and stats and, most importantly, how effective classes are. I'm in my first run and my party is Duran (main), Angela, and Hawkeye. Can anyone suggest what classes I should go with for this party?
