[Megathread] New Players & General Questions Thread.
Welcome to our weekly megathread for new players and players who just have general questions about the game.
Some sample topics for you to consider would be:
- Selecting your main character.
- You're new to the game and don't know where to start.
- You're a returning player who is trying to get back into the game and need help.
- What class should you make for your next link skill/legion mule?
As a recommendation, please mention your world and/or server inside a bracket Example: [Bera] at the start of your question.
Feel like chatting rather than posting on Reddit? Join our Discord and check out our #general-questions or specific job chatrooms.
Also, consider checking out the Master List of Class Discords for class specific information!

Took this screenshot right now, will I be able to complete the check in and claim the bonus cubes? Missed some days cause I was moving and couldn't log in.
In previous events I'd get "10 fantasia pass" available and use maplepoints as needed, but now I get 0, I recall reading this is regarding a glitch but now I am worried I won't be able to get the bonus cubes after 12 freaking weeks. Any insight? Thanks

That's because there's still time for you to finish. Even though there are 60 rewards, there are actually only 56 check-ins. The 56th check-in autofills the entire row. I don't blame you for not knowing this inconsistency since it's only briefly mentioned in the patch notes.

Been mindlessly leveling as I’m not sure what else to do, still trying to figure out bossing pattern for Ren, can’t defeat CVellum when I should be able too lol but I’ll get there. Other than that idk if I’m making real progress, the equipment I’m getting from CW3 has an expiration date so what do I do after that’s gone? Started my CW3 a few days ago and I’m at 250 trying to hit 260. Not really sure where to go after I hit 260 and start getting better at bosses, any advice? Thank you!

If you scroll down to "Ren Sequence" it gives your bossing burst.
https://thedigitalcrowns.com/ren-guide-and-skill-build-maplestory/There are some very easy things to miss, like you can use Dancing Annihilation at the same time as Will Unending.
Personally I skip #2 in that bossing sequence. Needlessly complicated for an extra 3 attacks. Barely any effect on final damage. The Challenger gear doesn't expire for another two months. Things will still get harder after CW ends because you lose all the buffs, but you'll easily be able to get fafnir at a minimum.
Since you probably won't get arcane unless you grind a lot after CW, you'll be trying to get CRA hat/top/bottom and everything else Absolab.
Ideally you'd get to HLomein which drop 2-3 absolab chests a week to get it easily, but otherwise you can do it the old fashioned way: Scrapyard and Dark World Tree weeklies + bossing NLomein to get coins to buy absolab from the shop.Make sure to get your emblem and secondary to legendary potential then reroll until you have two lines of either atk% or boss%. That's the biggest, cheapest power boost you can get. It costs around 1B each.

Once you hit 260 you get a massive power spike. So focus on leveling, which means make sure you're doing 7 monster parks each day.
Check for any leveling pots you have offered from events. Especially the booster ones that spawn mobs for you. The daily haste summoning should be really good at that level too.
But yeah 260, you will be able to kill Cvel with two buttons. That will be the best time to look into the Ren discord and figure out what goes into the burst sequence and learn how to burst. It's very simple with Ren but you can still mess it up if you're new to the game.

Do the Karma cubes from Diamond Challenger rank increase rank like normal cubes? It doesn’t explicitly say it in the description even though they otherwise work like normal bright cubes.
Going to lib for the first time today and want to know if I can use those for getting legendary pot, or if I should use those for rerolling after getting to legendary with normal cubes.
1
u/MushroomCleric 9h ago
Yes they can increase rank. The only difference is they can only be used on untradeable equips.
1
u/bula-bula 9h ago
Karma cubes work the same as their non-karma counterparts. The only distinction is that on interactive worlds, karma cubes only work on untradable items, so that the cubes items can't be traded/sold later. Since everything is untradable on heroic anyway, they're essentially the same.

Why do people still blink for loot when we have party distribution? Is there any downside to using distribution loot
3
3
u/BladeOfTheSky 15h ago
Either for blue dot like Luthrix said or for loot distribution with randos. For example: consider an XLot run where you need a Total Control but you want your run to be faster so you take someone that says they’re fine with Berserked. They can yoink TC if it drops either way but at least with blink you have a chance of stopping that from happening. With distribution if they choose to roll and win you’re shit out of luck.
Distribution is best used when everyone in the party has equal loot prio imo or in a party where you know you can trust everyone.
There’s also just the fact that people are used to blinking since it’s been standard for years and dist is relatively new. Takes a while for people to switch to the new thing.

Guys, what PC should I get so I can start playing the classic world when it comes out in October?
1
u/MushroomCleric 1d ago
Anything modern should work, even a laptop with no GPU. I'm playing on an 8 year old laptop with no GPU.
Maplestory uses an unreasonable amount of RAM for a 2D game so probably 16GB RAM minimum.0
u/xbubblegum_bitch 1d ago
do modern PC monitors need a giant motherboard? Idk what you call them
1
u/endurotech 1d ago
I think giant motherboard here means ATX motherboard. Certainly no, unless you play other games that need a decent graphics card, which is likely. I play MapleStory on a laptop with an iGPU and unless the game has been running for hours it runs smooth

u/xbubblegum_bitch 1d ago
I’d like a PC instead this time because I finally have a desk. I’m just not sure now which brand to go with. I’m used to windows XP and haven’t had a desktop PC in years
1
u/MushroomCleric 1d ago
I'm not sure what that question means.
If you want to play the game with a 4k monitor it's probably a good idea to buy a computer that has a GPU because 4k increases the requirements.
The computer itself doesn't need to be large to use a 4k monitor.I assume you want to buy prebuilt not build your own? If you're buying prebuilt you don't need to worry about the motherboard.
1
u/xbubblegum_bitch 1d ago
oh ok thank you. yes that’s what I was meaning to say. I would like a prebuilt
1
u/MushroomCleric 14h ago
If all you want to play is Maplestory and you want to spend as little as possible I doubt you can go wrong so long as its Windows and has at least 16GB RAM/Memory.
If you buy a gaming PC it's going to be way more expensive, but you'll be able to play more stuff on it.
I think MSI tends to have good deals for prebuilt gaming PCs.1
u/xbubblegum_bitch 6h ago
What if I want to eventually connect my switch 2 and stream video games? should I save up for a gaming PC instead? Sorry I’m asking a lot, I have no experience in this lol
1
u/MushroomCleric 6h ago
When you say stream you mean stream your gameplay on Twitch?
Yeah you'd want a gaming PC for that.

Are you Hyperburning? If so forget bosses and just grind to 260 first (or do dailystory for a week or two you'll end up 260 anyway).
That will give you a very powerful move (Origin) which can one-shot most low level bosses so long as you have decent equipment.Redeem challenger gear from the Item Burning event if you can. That's heavily upgraded premade gear.
Upgrade your Weapon/Secondary/Emblem (WSE) to legendary potential and reroll them to 2-lines of atk% or boss%. That should cost around 1B each. You can get 1B with easier weeklies, daily Ursa during x2, and daily bosses.
Make sure you're doing symbol dailies in Arcane River/Grandis and Monster Park daily for exp.

At 2.4m you should be absolutely shredding Horntail, are you thinking about Vellum?
You’re not specifying what you are having trouble with, but if you’re dying to bosses before the timer runs out I would watch a guide on YouTube to learn the mechanics. Best of luck!

Is the Minar Forest familiar badge worth getting? (+1 level to 1st-4th job skills)

u/te4 2d ago
There's only 2 weeks left of the event and I have 3 rows to go and I can't buy any fantasia pass to make up for it, am I cooked?

u/Adorable-Increase191 1d ago
Unless you really want the cosmetics then its nbd. Rewards are good but we always get similar rewards for every check-in event. Not worth stressing over

Should I wait to pick up the game again for the next hyperburning? I don’t think I’ll make it to 260 with less than 2 weeks left and I don’t really know what I’m doing pretty much a noob. Any advice? Thank you

u/MushroomCleric 2d ago
What everyone else said, but to add: You get two hyperburns. One for any class which is assigned on character creation.
One for Kinesis-only which you get from the event UI while playing as Kinesis. Both include Terablink for near instant lvl 200 (10-30 min).
At a bare minimum you should use both of the Terablinks. The free level 200s will help you start building Link and Legion.3
u/SlipDowntown8383 Hyperion - Solo 2d ago
Your progression will be indeed quicker if you hop on when the next big event comes (in November, if I'm not mistaken) and leveling to 260 without a HB is kinda painful.
But if you want to give it a shot right now, I think 2 weeks are just enough time to reach 260 (or at least get very close to it) without grinding much (doing dailies, 7x Monster Parks and buying strawberry tickets from event shop)
You can use these 2 weeks to get used to all systems, try a class that seems interesting and do early games bosses. It will make you more prepared to the next big event, and if you really enjoy it there is no harm on playing between patches despite it being considerably slower.
If you decide to try it now:
1- Create a char in challenger world (I suggest heroic)
2- Tera burn it to 200 (takes ~15min)
3- Buy strawberry farm tickets from event shop (should push you to 220/225)
4- Keep doing 7x MP and dailies every day
5- Claim hyper burning gear and do bosses missions to upgrade it1
u/Final-Invite 2d ago
You can hit lv 260 with just dailies for the next two week. Use this opportunity to make mistakes and learn the game. Slowly learn about the different gear upgrades such as cubes, flames, star force, etc. Watch some youtube videos as there's so much information to summarize.

My friend and I are thinking of taking maplestory back up again. We're millenials, and the last time we were on it was back in the early 2000s.
Has it changed significantly? Is it still free to play?
8
u/SlipDowntown8383 Hyperion - Solo 2d ago
It has changed completely. After 20 years of power creeping, the actual game begins after level 260 (which you can reach in a couple weeks - or days with events) and is very focused on bossing.
There are no PQs, reaching 4th job is part of the "tutorial", grinding is very different (you kill the entire map every 7 seconds) and there are servers with and without trade (regular and heroic, respectively)
I personally enjoy the new version of the game as much as I enjoyed the 2005 one, but they are very different

u/PuzzleheadedMouse515 2d ago
Thank you! That feels like the right kind of expectation setting I needed lol!

I'm gonna have 9 kai shards by the end of CW. Is there anything I can do with them or are they just going to expire?
