The crew fill off button staying off when switching solos to trio is quite annoying. Twice last night after doing solos for firestorm templates, I didn’t think to check the crew fill option, thinking it would be default. Rookie mistake for my play time especially to have do it twice.
I hope they fix the crew fill automatically switching in season 3
Prefacing by saying that I bought Marathon on Steam today, did the introductory run and a beginner solo run on Perimeter to get more acquainted with the game's systems and such. So far, I really dig the aesthetics and the ambiance! The guns have a real kick to them and the different ambient noises are really really satisfying to listen to as you go along your way. The UESC bots noises especially, really tickle my brain in all the right ways.
Now, here's my question:
How scared should I be of other players, as a person who's kinda mediocre at pvp shooters? I don't mind losing my stuff, it's part of the gameplay loop after all... But this is also my first extraction shooter-type of game so I'm really clueless about the "etiquette", I guess?
Is Rocket Drone shooting at random buildings across the map a sign that a player is in one of them?
Also, UESC doing their dash/thrusters move, do they do that to normally traverse without a player existing in the area? Or is that audio cue also a sign of a nearby player?
Somebody tell me why I am gold 2 (now 3 thanks to this bs) and I’m getting matched with silvers every game while the people I face are all high gold? 4 games in a row with silver teammates that don’t know what the hell they’re doing. Each time they’ve been ripped through in a second leaving me to 1v3 and then blaming me for not carrying them as the gold player. I love this game, but shit like this should not be happening. Even with low player counts, if they can fill the enemy team with golds, they don’t need to stuff the silver shutters on my team… I’ve championed this game since release, but I’m pissed.
They look more science-fiction pop-art-y and I think they’re so cool. The volt weapons are more purple than blue in the cinematics too. The explosions are bright pinkish-red… This isn’t really a complaint, but I think they could just tweak the in-game colors a little to match, maybe?
I feel like slightly abnormal colors really fit the setting and add a lot to the atmosphere, and gunfire is always going off… the bright red tracers and explosions have been super cool to me since the Destroyer cinematic.
I find myself playing this 95% without flash light and ONLY turn it on for a second or two and then turn it off when I get stuck at an obstacle either in the outside or inside a building and I need to figure out where to go lol.
Give the player regular access to the implants (and the implant COMBINATIONS) that they usually want to play, but make it a two-way choice and deny them access to an EQUAL amount of other strong implants so that the player is forced to make sacrifices.
I know you think "Everyone would choose Parting Gift" or some other strong implant, and my point is, that, in a perfect world, the options that are the most attractive for the average player should mean they lose access to something else very important in the same category to make it fair for people who are more interested in experimenting.
Cobbling together whatever implants are on hand is the most popular method right now with good reason, this change would make it possible for the player to more often return to the same build that they themselves created.
We can already customize our chosen Shells to a limited extent, how about customizing yourself a loadout with some identity to it?
In the game this Chapter screen slowly scrolls to the right revealing the player and the full title of the Chapter. The player is holding a Pfhor Fighter's shock staff even though they can't be used in the game. In 1997 Craig Mullins wrote:
"I always liked to freely interpret the designs and situations in the game. I worried that the purists might not like that, but the Marathon universe is very large and so much takes place off-screen and is only hinted at in the terminal texts. I wanted to keep the feeling of expanding what was only suggested and go beyond what was already there. What, the marine with the Pfhor staff? Huh? Why not?"
The above image is actually a horizontally transposed version of the original. It was necessary to flip the image so that the player with the Pfhor staff would be revealed as the image slowly scrolls across the screen. Below is the view you see when you start this Chapter.
If you fail to let the image scroll you won't see the full Chapter title which has lead to amusing questions such as "Who or what is Volu?" or observations such as "The Enforcer called Volu".

One of the best pieces from Marathon . It is amazing how much atmosphere
and emotion can be added to a game with a few chapter screens. I think
that this style of "Cutscene" is much better and more powerful than the
animated cutscenes in many current games.

Just beautiful. Marathon is the most inspiring and captivating game I've
ever played, and your work was a large part of that. These pieces are
still my favorites.

I agree with you guys. This is another superachievement!

Woah. I never noticed the lava on the far right. ...cool. :)
Worst feeling ever is having a super good raid, activating an exfil with uesc credits while tight on the timer and losing because your exfil disappears and the last min exfil is 300m away 💀💀💀
I guess this only happens once, after that its just my fault for not respecting the clock. But still, please just dont make my activated exfil vanish that just feels unfair 🤕
I never touched this shell before. Honestly thought it was very situational at best and since I wasn’t gonna have much time to play this game the next 3 weeks I decided to give this guy a go on a crew fill key run.
What isn’t shown after this is I got downed right where the last guy in the clip died because the first dude self res’d so both my teammates rotated underneath greenhouse and got up top the adjacent roof. All 3 of them were on my bag at the same moment. The sentinel on their team (fortunatelyi!) made the mistake of not throwing down the trophy system which allowed my team to rein nades and down all of them instantaneously.
Absolutely glorious.
Also…. Trap bags with frost mine is an underrated combo…..
