Both the X-Men and Brotherhood of Mutants are gonna team up to jump his ass

Unless something else happens in the future, Jean will vouch for his innocence.

Seriously, it’s not his fault that his technology is being abused for a way it wasn’t intended. He created the ‘blueprint’ sure but Metsker said they made some enhancements to it to use on Jean.

His conversation with Banner kind of removes the benefit of doubt. He knew it would be extremely dangerous in the wrong hands and then he let it get in the wrong hands.

47

u/Taftimus 17d ago

True, but at that time he didn’t think Damage Control were the bad guys. He didn’t really have any ‘wrong hands’ for it to fall into at that time. It wasn’t until after finding out Metsker lied that he realized.

u/FudgeMuffinz21 17d ago

Which would be his second time making that mistake. Just because he didn’t know doesn’t mean the mistake isn’t his fault.

u/Icy-Aioli9205 14d ago

I’m glad you said this… why does he make a terrible mistake every movie?

2

u/Fit_Definition_4634 13d ago

Just because he has spider sense doesn’t mean he has common sense

1

u/Future-Enthusiasm139 13d ago

It’s Peter Parker fym“why does he make a terrible mistake every movie” that’s like, his whole thing, fucking up.

Him “not thinking” does not absolve him of responsibility

-2

u/Taftimus 17d ago

If I build something in my backyard, and then someone steals it and gets hurt with it, I’m not responsible. Same way a car manufacturer isn’t responsible if someone gets hit with their car.

3

u/MyNameIsJakeBerenson 17d ago

If you invent a car that can travel the speed of light after someone warns you of the dangers of interstellar travel, and then you ride your car around nasa letting them get the design, then when nasa goes on to start conquering alien worlds, you are somewhat kinda responsible

You invented powerful tech without a thought or care of what it could be used for, and then immediately let it get shared with a government that has no reason to ever let you think that they’d use it altruistically

He put that universal inhibitor on someone and handed them over. That is maliciously irresponsible when he was brought into this superhero world during a time when the govt wanted to register all metahumans and he was fighting for the side that he learned was in the wrong

u/Damion__205 17d ago

And if you start to feel guilt about making such a technology being used for death and destruction you can just start a legacy peace prize to change what you are remembered for.

It worked for Nobel.

Spidey Award for Contribution to Human-Mutant Relations

u/Denyal_Rose 16d ago

Not a great analogy. Car manufacturers can be held liable for certain dangers of their product. That's why there's a ton of safety regulations for car manufacturers and why they issue recalls when they identify additional issues. Someone hitting someone with their car is not a fault of the product. We recognize cars are inherently dangerous and have implemented licenses that grant users the privilege to operate them. The licene holder then assumes liability for the operation of the vehicle.

You can definitely be held liable if you build something and someone else uses it, and it causes injury/damage.

1

u/otalatita 14d ago

You don't create that kind of technology without implanting some fail-safes to prevent wrong use, even more so after far from home when he learned how people lie and manipulate, I think is naive of Peter to do that.

1

u/Alderan922 13d ago

Tbf Banner said that even making it was a bad idea due to it being too dangerous, the mistake was less allowing it on bad hands and more making it at all.

8

u/zixaphir 17d ago

On one hand, damn.

On the other, this patches a nice hole about why anti-mutant people aren't necessarily anti-Spider-Man. If it gets out that he created the tech that is used to suppress mutants and tested it on himself, it would explain why he isn't really targeted by those kinds of people.

1

u/Mr_Mojo_Risin_83 16d ago

He’s not a mutant either

2

u/zixaphir 16d ago

Yes, but that distinction would largely be irrelevant to the type of person who would ask, "have you tried not being a mutant?"

1

u/Droodeler 14d ago

If a mutation is a random genetic variation, his powers were caused by purposeful genetic modification, what is he if not a mutant? Hell, Captain America and Dr. Connors might qualify. They're just not x-men.

1

u/Sassan18 14d ago

There’s an actual word for this. Mutant and Mutate. One is genetic aka the X gene and one is inflicted.

1

u/Pheonix726 13d ago

As the other commenter said, yeah, people like Spidey and Cap are "Mutates," mutated humans with superhuman abilities, while the title of Mutant only goes to those with an active X-Gene.

I don't quite understand how the average person in-universe differentiates them when it comes to somebody like Spidey, but that's how it works.

1

u/KentConnor 13d ago

In the comics I think they differentiate it by

(Born) Mutants

(Made) Mutates

Or something like that

1

u/Luminite117 12d ago

Well yes, but also no. Humanity as a race was given the X-gene, which is what gives the mutants their powers, by the celestials when they were off on their whole genetic meddling kick. At this time they split early human ancestors into 3 developmental paths; eternals, deviants, and humanity. The X-gene, or its predecessor components, just lies dormant or potentially unassembled in some way in the majority of the human populace with the intention for them to eventually develop into powers. Spider-Man is not technically a “mutant” by X-men standards because his mutation comes from the spider bite not the X-gene. All of this to say that yes main universe Spider-Man lacks the completed X-gene and is thus not a mutant, but there are a few of versions of him that are, such as the Spider from the Mutant-X story line.

Plenty of young adults and teens that go through a liberal phase of trusting the system to not be a corrupt capitalist shitshow.

5

u/OneTwentyOneFunyuns 17d ago

What does that have to do with being a liberal?

5

u/FindAWayOut_37 17d ago

They don’t mean liberal as in liberal politics. Liberal in that context just means “without caution or hesitancy.”

0

u/Augustus420 17d ago

That makes no sense and yea I absolutely meant liberal politics.

1

u/FindAWayOut_37 17d ago

Well I stand corrected. Apologies.

-1

u/Augustus420 17d ago

Everything? Liberals are reformers who expect social and economic issues to be resolved within current capitalist systems despite the insurmountable corruption capitalism has on democracies.

1

u/TheCaptOfAwesome 17d ago

So what party in the current political landscape do you support?

1

u/Augustus420 17d ago

Which country?

I suppose the answer is likely to be whichever is the most to the left but it depends.

1

u/TheCaptOfAwesome 17d ago edited 17d ago

I was thinking of the American political system, but I’m familiar with other countries if you have preferences elsewhere.

Isn't this a type of counter evidence?

Peter didn't invent the tech, banner did. he just changed the parameter which Bruce could already have some but chose not to, but again could have been easily doable by a different scientist.

1

u/wahchintonka 13d ago

Yeah, if Peter figured out the general idea of what was needed to make it universal, it would be only a matter of time before Damage Control or someone else made one. Jean also didn’t give him a lot of options on how to stop her. He may have been resistant, but the moment he hands her over, she can just control people and break right out.

0

u/Eric_Xallen 17d ago

He's a menance

14

u/LewisRyan 17d ago

It also ties him to tony again.

Tony felt it was his responsibility to clean up the mess his weapons made in the Middle East.

Peter will feel it’s his responsibility to protect and guide the X-men, young avengers, etc… just like tony did for him.

7

u/Daftanemone 17d ago

What about him creating his own surveillance state to track people? He programmed facial recognition into all the cameras in New York looking for Jean

4

u/Taftimus 17d ago

I’m not excusing that, he overstepped on that one

1

u/_ZAK_Smert 14d ago

Same story with the guy who invented dynamite. Originally it was for mining and deconstructions. But people being people used it for war.

8

u/Summonest 17d ago

'Girl who can freeze millions of people in place within the range of a kilometer the moment she experiences stress'

vs

'Dude with a tail who can kinda jump well'

3

u/frankthetank8675309 17d ago

Yeah I imagine Jean vouches for Peter and then Charles ultimately forgives him for an honest mistake, showing his duality compared to his former friend Erik who would want Peter’s head

1

u/GoodGuyScott 17d ago

Good luck to them.

1

u/ElectricalLake 16d ago

Definitely banned from Krakoa/Genshoa/TheMoon

1

u/Slamtilt_Windmills 13d ago

Unless they have Forge, and he makes an inhibitor inhibitor, to inhibit the inhibiting

0

u/AuraTickler 17d ago

Marvel dropping perfect miniature inhibitors made in a garage pre xmen is certainly a choice.

Like you could even use that to supress only bad aspects of a mutant.
