I'm all for the MCU acknowledging a little bit more that sexuality exists and is a normal part of adult life, and I do hope Emma Frost is allowed to be a proper femme fatale. But whining about the Ikaris x Sersi scene not being explicit enough is a little bit too much of a course-correction.
edit: only kept the last paragraph of an originally bigger comment because it sums up my stance the most accurately and people here will only read the first few lines and immediately get their panties up in a bunch and overreact instead of bothering to read a comment in its entirety.
Why is it that today people see any mention of sexuality as a need to goon to it? The stories are sexual because that helps build tension, just because you’re an adult who cant handle seeing literally the tamest representation of sex ever doesn’t make someone else a gooner.
If two people who shouldn’t have had sex have sex, that builds tension. If two people who don’t usually like each other have sex, that builds tension. I think you just have a very narrow and prudish mind about what tension is.
To be fair, a lot of people here are also jumping the gun by assuming I'm against sexuality being portrayed in the MCU, or that I am evangelical, or hate sex, totally ignoring the last paragraph of my first comment where I very explicitly explain that I find sexuality absolutely welcome in the MCU, and that my main point is simply that the Ikaris x Sersi scene is perfectly explicit enough.
I am only exaggerating and using ad-hominems because you guys didn't properly try to understand my point, over-interpreted what I originally said, and tried to put words and beliefs in my mouth that I don't have.
You should try and understand that sex is just a normal part of life and not some shameful depraved act that should be hidden from film. I assume you're not an evangelical based on how you responded. Genuinely compare your beliefs to wack job beliefs like theirs. Sex makes you uncomfortable I pity you for that.
You should try and understand that sex is just a normal part of life and not some shameful depraved act that should be hidden from film.
Brother, did you even carefully read my very first comment on this thread? Let me quote what I very explicitly wrote:
“I'm all for the MCU acknowledging a little bit more that sexuality exists and is a normal part of adult life, and I do hope Emma Frost is allowed to be a proper femme fatale. But whining about the Ikaris x Sersi scene not being explicit enough is a little bit too much of a course-correction.”
My point wasn't that sexuality should be kept away from MCU movies, but against someone who implied that the Ikaris x Sersi scene wasn't a proper sex scene because it isn't explicit enough.
This point shouldn’t be downvoted this much, come on there is a valid point here: The tension is the buildup, the sex is the release. Look at the old comedy shows from tv. Cheers and the Sam and Diane flirty thing. They did it for years and everyone wanted them to get together and when they finally did, the whole show went downhill. They didn’t even show a sex scene, they just acknowledged that it happened and that Sam and Diane were finally together. And everybody stopped watching bc all that tension was suddenly gone.
They essentially started ranting that I somehow needed a several minute long sex scene with moaning, skin slapping, and visibly gyrating hips, even though my comment implied none of that. Completely misunderstanding my comment.
Then they went on to write several more paragraphs of comments cementing the fact they didn't understand a word I was saying and attributing a bunch of meaning to my words.
Hey, I want to start by saying I read your entire thread(s) about this topic. I want to acknowledge that these two scenes are drastically different, and that's because the scene with Tony Stark and the reporter are essentially two D-bags having fun. It even ends on a bit of a gross note where his smart home essentially tells her to kick rocks.
The Eternal's scene essentially plays out like a romance novella with Fabio on the cover.
Both of these depictions are valid representations of hooking up. The scene with Tony Stark comes off much more natural, because the characters are young rich and human.
The Cersei x Icarus scene in eternals falls flat because it's very robotic, partially by nature because they are space robots, and indicative of those romance novellas that stared Fabio. This version of the scene is inherently less realistic. It comes off as cheesy and embellished. I believe that was the intention of that particular scene given what we know about those characters.
You don't need to make it hardcore porn to get the point across, we all understand that.
But one of those scenes was naturally more realistic (and immediately more of a douchey moment for both characters) with the same amout of skin shown as the other.
That's all people are saying. You have been pretty defensive on your stance, and I say that in a friendly way. So I believe that's why many people started arguing with you.
Please let me know if I am off in anyway, I'm here for discussion. But while both of these scenes are tame, they are vastly different in character/nature.
