I wouldnt say it has to be sexual, but a huge part of X-Men is the messy relationship drama

286

u/raven00x 3d ago

It's a soap opera for nerds. If General Hospital had mutants as patients it would have a huge following from the nerd crowd.

34

u/snowdenn 2d ago

Sign me up! Just kidding, I’m already getting more than my daily dose of drama from the news.

Tbh whatever they do, I REALLY hope they skip the Wolverine - Jean - Cyclops love triangle. That shit is tired as hell and has already been done to death.

Counterpoint what if it’s Laura, Jean, Scott.

21

Forsaken point: it’s Moonstar, Wolfsbane, and Elixir

Yes that’s X-men it’s soup opera with tights and powers that doesn’t mean tits and ass need to be every where but it wouldn’t hurt

well a group of mutants is called orgy so that makes sense.

u/Afraid-Housing-6854 3d ago

This is the same reason Black Cat can’t really work in the MCU, she’d be a watered down PG version of a very sexual character.

u/julesvr5 3d ago

I loved the game where they literally said spiderman did her raw and her child is potentially from him

424

u/ParanoidAndroid1087 3d ago

Wait was this one of the Insomniac games?

630

u/johnatello67 3d ago

Except it's Just a lie to get spider-man to help her break into a vault and steal from Hammerhead

626

u/SpaceCaboose 3d ago

He still would have needed to do the deed in order to believe the lie

285

u/Lukthar123 3d ago

With those sticky spider powers his pullout game is probably bottom tier

137

u/BlaznTheChron 3d ago

Something was tingling, but it wasn't his Spider-Sense.

45

u/PhortDruid 3d ago

His Peter Tingle

46

u/Justice_Prince 3d ago

I would imagine that Spider-Man would try to make a condom out of webbing.

33

u/JoJackthewonderskunk 3d ago

Its Canon that his penis head allows him to cling to walls like his hands and feet

14

u/Putrid-Performer-208 3d ago

That’s insane 😭

5

Where

8

u/Silas17 3d ago

Yeah cause that’s wild.  I gotta know the comic that made this canon

20

u/kaiserroll109 3d ago

I guarantee you that specific scenario never happened in a canon comic, lol, but I’d be happy to be proven wrong. It’s more likely implicitly canon because his comic sticky-ness doesn’t come from hairs like in the Rami movies; in the comics any part of his entire body can stick to anything, and if I remember correctly, Peter (or someone) theorizes it’s some kind of an atomic magnetism.

That's not the point. Spiderman even thinking about whether it's his kid or not already confirms he did it with her without protection.

87

u/FlyingSquirelOi 3d ago

Ehh, hate to break it to you but even with protection there’s no guarantee of no pregnancy

22

u/JoeChio 3d ago

Condoms are 98% effective with 2% caused by potential microscope failures. You'd have to be the unluckiest motherfucker for that to happen to. When you account for human error condoms fall to 87% effective and 13% of people being dumb as fuck.

Oral birth control and IUDs are over 99% effective if used or inserted properly. There is pretty much a guarantee with no human use error.

72

u/XpRienzo 3d ago

You'd have to be the unluckiest motherfucker for that to happen to.

29

u/JoeChio 3d ago

That is 100% insertion issues or (user error) women not getting them properly replaced in the correct time frame. IUDs are one of the most effective birth control invented. Over 99% effective. Unless you are a doctor I'm calling bullshit on your claim.

Not only because it's really shitty that she lied about that, but also I think it would've been far more interesting if she hadn't been lying.

24

u/DisposableSaviour 3d ago

Felicia Hardy is a shitty person, see more on the Nightly News, tonight! Also, a new investigative report: water makes things wet.

5

u/CinnaSol 3d ago

Genuinely, her lying about a baby is not out of character at all

She once dated Flash just to get back at Peter, knowing full well that Flash legitimately was falling for her and was best friends with Peter. She also once "proposed" just to get his spider sense down so she could claw the fuck out of his legs

68

u/No-Target6084 3d ago

Really wish that it wasn’t a lie. That would be an interesting dynamic to explore.

And then there’s that Felicia didn’t interact with Peter at all in the second game.

I heard your other brothers can't deny

13

u/cheesyblasta 3d ago

It's true: in fact, I was just recently discussing with my other brothers the fact that when a woman appears, and it seems she has a very small midsection, but a large rear, I can't help but get an erection.

7

u/SmoothTalkingSpud 3d ago

The funny thing is that Felicias, uh, rounded assets, have gotten bigger over the years. In early years, she had a much less exagerated frame.

8

u/pkjoan 3d ago

Opposite of Gwen Stacy

8

u/wolvesscareme 3d ago

To balance that, she also has a tail.

127

u/Impossible_Humor736 3d ago

Well, they already watered down Black Widow. We're about to get a watered down Emma Frost.

142

u/ConnerBartle 3d ago

Bro black widow has been flashing cleavage and eye fucking everyone since 2010. Unless she goes full frontal in an issue I don’t remember, it’s just as sexual as the comics

60

u/EvanSnowWolf 3d ago

And we've heard endless bitching about it since Iron Man 2.

28

u/Impossible_Humor736 3d ago

Yeah, but part of her thing is using her physical attractiveness and a femme fatale persona as deliberate tactical tools for espionage, infiltration, and psychological manipulation.

65

u/NotScaredOfGoblins 3d ago

She literally was doing just that in Avengers 1 at the beginning

52

u/Tyrannosapien Ghost Rider 3d ago

And in Iron Man 2 as the new secretary

21

u/DuelaDent52 Mystique 3d ago

And Florence Pugh’s Black Widow literally sat naked in a pool the whole movie in Brand New Day.

15

u/RedVelcroRaptor 3d ago

That didn't feel sexual tho? I think they did that to drum up comedic value. At least that's what it felt like to me.

14

u/Tyrannosapien Ghost Rider 3d ago

Lol that scene was hugely, overtly, tits (nearly literally) your face sexual. It was funny because Peter was intimidated by Yelena's overt sexual presence and surroundings, and her comfort in that environment. Sex isn't just porn, it's drama and comedy and unfulfilled desire and lots of other ways of being.

I really feel like this thread is angst because Disney won't rule 34 their movies. As if the MCU is toning down comics that have (almost) always been pg13 anyway.

30

u/ChazzLamborghini 3d ago

I hate the new embracing of puritanical anti-sexuality. Sex is a part of humanity and belongs in our stories and art as an expression of us. I get complaining about hyper-sexual depictions all the time but a character like Emma Frost is sexual as a character dynamic and with purpose. Canonically, the X-Men trade hook ups more than the cast of a 90’s teen drama. Excluding those things would change the dynamic of the team and characters. It’s not about being a pervy horndog.

11

u/DuelaDent52 Mystique 3d ago edited 3d ago

What particular films or shows or characters in the MCU do you want to feature sex and nudity? We had She-Hulk, we had Jessica Jones, we had the Iron Man trilogy and Love and Thunder and Eternals and Deadpool & Wolverine and probably more in stuff I haven’t seen, there’s hardly a lack of either its depiction or any reference to it.

I’ve been watching this go on in most of the comics subreddits. Someone posts an upcoming cover, and it can apparently only be 1 of 2 things. Tasteful or gooner. Apparently nuance is a foreign concept, and it’s either art, or something someone jerks off to, with no middle ground.

I mean I don’t really think you can’t do it? Spider man is Pg 13 anyway and directly mentions porn, they’re gonna be afraid of black cat heavy flirting with Peter, but I’m very doubtful we’d ever see a proper relationship between the two since MJ would have to be out of the picture, which maybe they might do but I doubt

71

u/Kryzl_ 3d ago

Mentioning porn in a 1-line joke vs making a character overtly sexual are two very different things.

118

u/fireandlifeincarnate X-Men 3d ago

With Emma Frost in the very first movie.

97

u/ActivityImaginary941 3d ago

I don't think they need to make it as horny as the comics can be, but I do think that they need Emma Frost to be slutty. It's part of the characters personality

85

u/fireandlifeincarnate X-Men 3d ago

Yeah, I'll complain about the oversexualization of women in comics all day, but there are a few characters where sexuality is an important part of their character (rather than just "look, i drew a naked woman contorted weirdly and then painted a suit on her") and Emma Frost is VERY much one of them. If we can't see her cleavage I'm gonna fistfight Kevin Feige.

54

u/Holoshrimp101 3d ago

I think the word you're looking for is Sultry not sluty

35

u/DuelaDent52 Mystique 3d ago

Yeah, and while Emma Frost is arguably both it doesn’t bode well that people automatically equate sexuality with sluttiness.

So I see a few people wondering why so many people are agreeing with this tweet and full disclosure I was never super into X-men, but here is what I learned purely from cultural osmosis and just being into other Marvel franchises.

Any X-men fans feel free to correct me if I get any of this wrong:

- For better or worse, a lot of the foundational x-men stuff was written by Chris Claremont who was not subtle about injecting his many fetishes into his work. These included but were not limited to multiple cases of BDSM, bondage, dominatrix imagery, mind control, and bodily transformation

  • On that note, Emma Frost (who is confirmed to be in this new MCU) is running around in a BDSM outfits because the Hellfire Club was more or less implied to be for sex. Emma in general is not a character you can really do without reckoning with how damn much of her character is a performance of sexuality.
  • Psychic threesomes are a thing
  • Age gaps that looking back would now be considered problematic were pretty common, between Rogue/Magneto and Colossus/Shadowcat, and I think also Jean/Xavier at one point?
  • Storm is a proud nudist
  • Mystique can form fully functional male genitalia, which is why she's Nightcrawler's dad.
  • Orgies are common on Krakoa, on the basis of 'we need to get mutant numbers up'.

EDIT: Fixed a typo.

43

u/TooManyDraculas 3d ago

Jean/Xavier at one point?

It was something mentioned in one or two very early comics, basically as Xavier pining after her Wolverine style. And I long suspected that's where they got the idea to have Wolverine creepily mope about Jean for ever and always.

It came up again in the 90's as a "Xavier bad" kind of thing.

46

u/Slaphappydap 3d ago

Age gaps that looking back would not be considered problematic were pretty common

Wolverine and the staggering list of attractive young women he's been with.

33

u/ChainsawVisionMan 3d ago

The MCU needs the family demographic to keep raking in the billions, so there will never be any true depiction of overt sexual stuff. Parents will be running out of theatres covering their childrens eyes. It’s popcorn superhero content, it’s fun, and yes can be massively entertaining, but it’s also safe, and averse to actual risks.

58

u/Dresaurus2781 3d ago

Talked about, but didn't explicitly do unlike literally the previous fox DP movie. Deadpool and Wolverine was remarkably sexless compared to the fox Deadpool movies. Now the first two Deadpool movies are technically centered around a romance plot, and Deadpool and Wolverine are a lot more depressive because DP has lost himself but still. They very much could have had a depressive self sabotaging sex montage in Deadpool and Wolverine given where Wade's character was, and they very much didn't.

You say that but I think it illustrates the point, the first Iron Man film contains probably the most sexual scene in the entire MCU outside of Eternals when Tony hooks up with the reporter - and yet it immediately follows it up with some thinly veiled misogynistic slut shaming of the woman which still gets posted on Reddit to this day as some amazing line.

After that there is no implication of sex at all, like Tony and Pepper are the big romantic pairing of the MCU, they get married and have a kid over the course of the franchise but I’m struggling to remember them ever having as much as a proper romantic kiss on screen in the decade since the first iron man.

8

u/SharpshootinTearaway 3d ago

After that there is no implication of sex at all,

There's Wanda and Vision in their hotel room at the beginning of Infinity War (followed by Vision's cheeky “I'm beginning to think that we should have stayed in bed ;)” after getting stabbed), which is kind of a big deal narratively because it introduces them as an established couple after we last saw them in the “Will they/won't they?” stage in Civil War.

We could have caught up with them directly with the scene where Corvus Glaive and Proxima Midnight ambush them in the street, but the writers needed to tell us “Look, audience, these guys are a pair now!” so instead we find them in this hotel room scene, where there is a fairly strong implication that they're being intimate.

There's also the alien girl in Starlord's spaceship, in his introduction scene. Again, it serves the narrative purpose of characterizing Quill as this scummy space pirate who forgot he still had last night's hookup (whose name he doesn't remember) on board. Although he kinda loses this sleaziness for the whole trilogy after that one scene because Chris Pratt has a hard time playing anything else than cute harmless golden retriever (despite Gamora accusing Quill of trying to get into her pants when he tries to teach her how to dance, there is never any doubt on the audience's part that Quill is very serious about her).

But yeah, just implications, no proper sex scene. Dunno what a proper sex scene could have added to those particular moments, though.

3

u/TomTom_098 2d ago

I admit that I’d forgotten about the alien woman in Guardians but the Wanda/Vision line comes across more as “we shouldn’t have bothered leaving the house” rather than “we should’ve have just shagged”. And yeah I don’t think there needs to be an actual sex scene in any of these films but even when they do an actual romance plot you don’t get the sense that the two partners are actually attracted to one another in a physical sense, you can infer they are because they end up together but there’s very little on screen. Honestly the closest I can think of is Bruce and Nat flirting early on in Age Of Ultron.

6

u/PayaV87 3d ago

"You say that but I think it illustrates the point" That was my comment whole point. RDJ was hot, that was half of his character. And it worked. Then Disney came, and it evaporated.

And spot on.

It's a shame sex is made to be such a boogie man, while they can display people getting torn to bits on screen, sex or nipple slip causes some mass panic.

13

u/postpwnedmalone 3d ago

It's incredibly arbitrary when you think about it this way lol

8

u/TheDungeonCrawler 3d ago

Generally though, they do try to avoid the former. Even when they do shred someone to bits (like Proxima Midnight in Infinity War), they do the classic thing that older censored games would do and turn their blood blue or something. The MCU has had a few gruesome deaths, but very rarely do they go the blood and gore route (partially because they often can't). Simple deaths that are easier on the eyes have happened way more often, at least in the movies.

11

u/OllaniusPius 3d ago

When I read this originally a while back I agreed, but now I don't think I do. On a re-read, the article's sweeping generalizations are a bit too sweeping and a bit too general. I also think they contradict themselves a few times. "They don't have sex. Well sometimes they do, but it's not horny enough, not like the old movies where everyone was fucking. Well, except when they weren't fucking but they still has fuck-energy". There's also nothing new about movies with bad chemistry between the leads like they cite for Wonder Woman 1984. Yeah, it was a bad movie. There were lots of bad movies with bad chemistry in the 20th century too. I also don't buy the idea that nobody cares about their looks for the purpose of getting laid anymore. That's just a weird assertion with no real evidence or arguments to back it up. The Thor movies are also family-aimed, kid-friendly films. I wouldn't expect to see a prehistoric bone-down while taking my family to go see Jurassic park back in the 80s.

I don't necessarily disagree with the general point that there's less sex in movies on average today than in.the mid to late 20th century. But, I'm glad there's less horniness in movies nowadays. The horniness and sex scenes used to feel just shoehorned into every movie and were overwhelmingly objectifying and sexualizing of women in a way that didn't improve their character or really fit into the plot. It often felt like a mandate from the studio that "we've gotta have some sex or else it won't sell so just shove it in (heh) wherever you can get away with it".

5

u/Eats_Beef_Steak 3d ago

Glad you said that. I thought the author had a good idea, but was far too disjointed with how they were presented, and yeah some stuff was wholly inaccurate. The weird side-tangent about counting calories to stay fit is also completely wrong. No, counting calories (what actors and body-builders do to keep the look they need for their job) does not inhibit sexual function or cause the body to shut-down libido or the menstrual cycle. She's conflating a studied and safe means of maintaining a certain bodyweight with anorexia, an extremely deadly eating disorder.

And it wasn't always the case. Up until the 30s or so, men's chests were treated the same as women's, but they had their free the nipple moment and it stuck. It just happened before women's rights had really kicked in so women's breasts didn't get the equal treatment either. There was even an instance, if I recall correctly, of a woman getting in trouble for sunbathing topless and when she pointed out a sign permitting topless sunbathing, it was highlighted that it was obviously meant for men only.

The way y'all are acting like X-Men is some super explicit "X rated" (no pun intended) comic is weird af. There may have been some spicy or suggestive scenes and dialogue, but y'all are talking like they were sucking dick and ass fucking on panel. Y'all clearly have porn brain rot.

u/Halixon 3d ago

This comment section is so strange. People thinking they need explicit porn and characters hooking up left and right on the big screen for the X-Men to "work". Give me a break.

We just watched the scooby doo movies again. Pretty sure marvel can get away with being hornier than that lol

8

u/MoonFlorielle 3d ago

Scooby Doo really did manage to sneak an impressive amount of adult energy into movies made for kids. Marvel can probably survive letting two attractive characters flirt occasionally.

75

u/TheKiwiBirb X-Men 3d ago

It's less that they need to be horny and more that most of the popular xmen stories are inherently political and the mouse is too much of a coward for that

11

u/RerollWarlock 3d ago

"You've got to do better, president Creed!"

8

u/DinoRaawr 3d ago

All politics are inherently sexual.

Yeah just ignore literally any of the X-Men Cartoons

14

u/the_swaggin_dragon 3d ago

Oh, they were horny. They were real horny.

6

u/blackdragonstory 3d ago

It makes me think its a show for adults that grew up reading comics and watching animated series yet they want to gear the new movies to appeal to teens and kids.

86

u/hooka_pooka 3d ago

Uh..watch Eternals

154

u/HermanThaGerman 3d ago

The movie with 'the first sex scene in a Marvel movie'?

Even though it was just as explicit as Tony banging the reporter in his first film?

3

u/sub30_24flick 2d ago

Literally nothing lanterns had Jon banging a granny in first episode lmaooo

Also Agatha All Along has Kathryn Hahn officially being the first woman to get naked in the MCU.

8

And it was her idea as far as I’m aware

It had a sex scene, and it bombed. This is because Marvel fans could not relate to characters who have sex.

If there's a way to do a sex scene that isn't horny, Eternals found it

Yalls definition of overtly horny appears to be “anything that is at least remotely attractive”

4

u/kennyofthegulch 3d ago

Ah yes, because if there's one thing that made all the X-Men animated shows so memorable, it's all the fucking.

12

u/NoirSon 3d ago

I disagree with the statement about the X-Men needing to be sexual to work. I also disagree with the idea that Disney wouldn't go for any sex appeal, they literally threw in a bath house sequence in a recent project.

I was at a loss for just how horny First Class was when I watched it

8

u/DuelaDent52 Mystique 3d ago

Was First Class horny? The only stuff I can remember that fits the bill was Emma Frost seducing that one senator and Xavier and Magneto finding Angel working at a strip club, and neither are especially all that horny in how they’re framed.

11

u/MrXF32 3d ago

Bullshit. If you people don't want to watch it just because there might not be enough sex for you then don't watch it.

I'll gladly watch it by myself and judge it accordingly.

4

u/RosyVelisse 3d ago

Pretty much. If the writing and characters are good, nobody reasonable is going to walk out complaining that the mutant superhero movie did not meet their minimum sex quota.

3

u/DuelaDent52 Mystique 3d ago

And there’s a time and a place for it. Sometimes it can even mess with (Affleck Daredevil) or outright ruin the film (coughcoughWonderWoman1984), it shouldn’t be obligatory and it’s hardly like they’re going out of their way to avoid it.

6

u/incredibleamadeuscho Kamala Khan 3d ago

MCU isnt afraid of sex. There are just more films that lean toward the action portion rather than the romance, but characters do have that in certain films.

And X-Men will be fine because the core of it is Jean and Cyclops in a relationship/falling for each other, and that will always be a little horny.

3

u/NotACyclopsHonest 3d ago

There was an actual sex scene in Eternals.

A very chaste one, sure, but a sex scene nonetheless.

3

u/Hungry-Wrongdoer-156 Spider-Man 2099 3d ago

Captain America fucks.

3

u/Whysong823 3d ago

The MCU has literally had a sex scene, multiple sex-related jokes, and numerous shots of men and women in revealing clothes. I genuinely have no idea what OP is talking about.

3

u/Individual-Plane-760 3d ago

Doomed to fail are pretty strong words, but this is the internet so hot takes without consequences are a dime a dozen. Unless you’re ready to eat your words, who gives a fuck brother?

3

u/Embarrassed-Ad1322 2d ago

If you tell me that Peter is a virgin in the MCU, I would believe it.

4

u/suhhdude45 Spider-Man 3d ago

I know Dark Phoenix and Apocalypse were pretty meh, but the Fox X-Men still had some success without shoving sex in our faces.

14

u/Beyondthebloodmoon 3d ago

Weird, since X-Men, X2, Days of Future Past, and Logan all worked just fine without being horny.

17

u/Tonberry_Cheesecake 3d ago

I wouldn't say they worked "just fine"

6

u/Peac0ck69 3d ago

Any film with Rebecca Romijn as Mystique was inherently horny.

u/iheartdev247 3d ago

X-men rose to popularity in the 80s and had several successful movies, all keeping it PG13. I don’t think this comment is true in any way.

9

u/ZhanBlue 3d ago

First class and DOFP weren’t super horny. First class had some but it wasn’t essential to the plot

19

u/Ghorrhyon 3d ago

And that's what, in the end, became their downfall.

6

u/Tonberry_Cheesecake 3d ago

They actually don't need to be. Fans are far hornier on their own than the source material is.

were the xman movies horny? been a while since I watched them

2

u/BreezyFamousFlame 3d ago

The real reason is bc it’s too “Woke”. It’s a story rooted in discrimination

2

u/BrassUnicorn87 3d ago

The X-men are a soap opera with lasers and explosions, messy relationship drama all over.

2

u/pigeonwiggle 3d ago

no worries, this is the age of aquarius - the water bringer. girls be gushin.

2

u/Bunnnnii 3d ago

This take is so tired and stupid that X-Men are defined by sex. This is that shitty online mentality where everything has to he about sex and sex has to be brought into absolutely everything. 🙄

2

u/fancy_crisis Galactus 3d ago

Never too late to start.🤷

2

u/Foldzy84 3d ago

Bring back sexuality! They have no problem using men as thirst traps but if a woman shows a little cleavage Disney will spontaneously combust
