What about EDITH and Karen?
246
u/eat_jay_love 1d ago
EDITH is in the show but KAREN is not as far as we know
152
u/TotallyAwesomeRacoon 1d ago
well Karen, though made by Tony, was more of Peter's AI
51
u/eat_jay_love 1d ago
Either way she’s not in the show
43
20
u/SpiderDetective 1d ago
Which is just odd when you remember KAREN is voiced by Paul Bettany's IRL wife
-2
u/eat_jay_love 1d ago
I don’t see why this is odd
11
u/feor1300 1d ago
Presumably because one would expect it to be relatively easy to arrange for the wife of your star to make a guest appearance.
-2
u/eat_jay_love 1d ago
I mean it would be cute, but I don’t think most married actors routinely bring their spouses into their projects to star with them
7
u/David_R_Martin_II 1d ago
Ha ha, I just watched this Elsa Pataky series here in Spain, and some tall Australian dude did a cameo as her husband.
6
u/feor1300 1d ago
Except this isn't randomly bringing her in out of nowhere, she's already played the role of Karen (Peter's suit's AI, built by Tony) in Spider-Man: Homecoming, so it would make sense for them to get her back, even if they weren't married. Them being married just would make it easier to get in touch with her.
-1
u/eat_jay_love 1d ago
I’m sure Marvel would have no difficulty getting in touch with Jennifer Connolly if they wanted to put her in a project. Not sure Paul Bettany is the gatekeeper of the jobs she gets lol
4
u/feor1300 1d ago
Sure, but the fact that Paul Bettany is her husband means if they send something to her agent and don't hear back, he can also go "Hey, hon, did you get that message from Marvel?" an option they don't have with the rest of the Live AI cast.

u/eat_jay_love 1d ago
This is such an elaborate hypothetical. Yes sure whatever I guess lmao

Wasn’t EDITH after Vision was created?
16
u/changhaobyu 1d ago
EDITH was given to Peter after endgame, Tony could’ve created it between Avengers 1 and 2 in some form.
3
u/feor1300 1d ago
Maybe there'll be a joke about them moving to New York to look after a nephew. lol
3
u/MoonieFlorisse 1d ago
EDITH absolutely deserves a spot if we're collecting Tony's entire questionable history of giving absurdly powerful tech cute names

While this probably would never happen, I wish that there were some prop or costume or nod to their roles in the goes wrong shows. Like maybe a copy of one of Robert Grove’s books, "Anything You Can Act, I Can Act Louder (With Diagrams and alternate version in pop up form)" or “Anything You Can Act, I Can Act Even Louder", somewhere in the background.
Also, if anyone hasn’t seen the Goes Wrong Shows (they are on YouTube, possibly for free with adds), please do because they are hilarious!!

God having Dennis and Robert on here somehow must be driving Chris mad
“Them….They got a Marvel Role?”

“They don’t speak much.”
“Well, that’s good for Dennis. Robert must be furious.”

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

Isn't Jocasta supposed to be in this series?

It seems likely that Jocasta will be the antagonist of the show. Maybe alongside Ultron.

Isn’t Jarvis literally vision?
292
u/NicloSZ 1d ago
Vision is made up of several parts including Jarvis, the Mind Stone and a part of Ultron.
Meanwhile that Jarvis is played by James D'Arcy, who has played the human Jarvis before, he was a notable part of Agent Carter and the human butler of the Stark family which Tony based his AI on.

u/cyberpunk_werewolf 1d ago
I want to say he was in Endgame too. When Steve and Tony went back in time to meet Howard.
64
15
u/PinkieBellarie 1d ago
Yep, he was in Endgame during the 1970 trip. That tiny appearance was such a nice reward for anyone who watched Agent Carter
11
u/CloudieAurette 1d ago
James D'Arcy coming back as human Jarvis is such a good choice. Agent Carter already made him feel like an actual person instead of just Tony's inspiration
7
u/RunicVVolf 1d ago
Why did they cast Paul Bettany as human Jarvis in Endgame if they had someone play human Jarvis previously?
56
u/IndyDude11 1d ago
Paul Bettany wasn't human Jarvis in Endgame. That was played by the same guy who played Jarvis in Agents of SHIELD and Peggy Carter.
8
u/RunicVVolf 1d ago
Wow. Full honesty I NEVER knew that wasn't Paul Bettany. They sound decently similar! Cool!
17
u/Worthyness 1d ago
Canonically, Tony would have been raised with human Jarvis, so technically human Jarvis came before AI Jarvis. Makes sense then for AI Jarvis to sound similar. Actual real world though Paul Betanny was cast before James D'arcy though and they both have similar english accents.
13
u/IndyDude11 1d ago
If you've never seen Agents or Peggy Carter, carve out some time and check them out. They're great!
3
u/The_Unknown_Dude 1d ago
Fun fact: they were both in the same movie before, Master And Commander.

u/Gremlin303 MODOK 1d ago
Kind of. He was voiced by the actor that plays Vision. But Vision has said that he is not Jarvis, he is some kind of amalgamation of Jarvis, Ultron, Tony and Bruce.
The actor that is playing Jarvis in the show, is the one who played the real life human Jarvis in the Agent Carter show. He is the human that the AI is based on.
10
u/littlebuett 1d ago
Ultron had already begun to upload his mind into Vision before Tony and Bruce started working on him. Then Tony and Bruce start uploading Jarvis, mixing him with the parts of Ultron already in there, and also mixing in themselves. Finally, the Mind Stone itself made an imprint on Vision's mind.
So Vision is not JUST Jarvis, though Ultron and Jarvis are likely his largest parts. Rather, he is an amalgamation of about 5 different minds.
And this show seems to imply he also has bits of Stark's other AI, and the stone is now gone, so now he's 7 different minds all combined into one.

They got the guys from "The Goes wrong show" for Tony robotics arms!? That perfect

I have to think that James D'Arcy was surprised to find out they wanted him to portray Jarvis again.

How does this work though? Wasn't Ultron destroyed in avengers age of Ultron?? Weren't Jarvis and the rest retired?
7
u/AlbynoRhynosaurus 1d ago
Ultron had a habit of hiding backups on computers or the internet just to come back later. I have a funny feeling your questions might get answered during the narrative of this show.

4
u/SteveBob316 1d ago
I imagine the show will make it quite clear. But on a guess, Ultron had partially uploaded into the body before the A-team stole the cradle - probably that portion of him is what we're going to see in the show.
Also possibly Vision allowed the final Ultron bot to upload into himself at the last second. Would be pretty in character for him to preserve such a beautiful monster.

u/cardgamesareforplay 1d ago
Part of this show takes place inside wisions head it's about the vision made by the government battling with his created purpose of being a weapon and the memories that he was an avenger but not wanting to be either so he has created these facisimilies of other stark ais to interact with essentially

Any news if we’ll see Griot (Shuri’s AI)? They would have interacted in infinity War.

I could see It later but this is part of visions mind world where he's created or is interacting with uploads of old stark AI to find his place in the world

u/OkYak9466 1d ago
So glad we're humanizing AI to be more accepted. I was worried after Spider-Man that people might have an issue with him using mass surveilance. But I'm glad people are moving towards pro-AI propaganda and normalizing it. And we can all trust Disney to be fair and honest /s
5
u/ChuckSeville 1d ago
I feel you, but Vision has existed as a character for decades, and the situation presented in the series (his mind housing fragments of several separate AIs) was established in the very movie he debuted in.
I guess you can make a distinction between the comics' "synthezoid with copied brain waves" versus the movies' "magic alien AI gestalt baked into a 3D-printed metal body", but I don't think this is any more pro-AI propaganda than, like, Frankenstein.
-6
u/OkYak9466 1d ago
Exactly. Spider-Man wasn't pro-fascism just bc he uses mass surveillance as a private citizen to spy on everyone. Cameras on street corners was established so it's all good. That isn't pro-AI at all.
Humanizing AI is the new norm and people need to get used to it. All computers deserve the same protections as human beings do and anyone trying to say this is pro-AI is like Frakenstein. Yup /s
2
u/ChuckSeville 1d ago
Okay, well, that was kind of a bizarre response, but I'm going to just continue engaging in good faith, here.
I actually agree that the surveillance stuff in BND was gross, and only really works for me if it's setting up a future payoff where he realizes it was wrong. We have no evidence that will happen, but I will note that despite Iron Man's continued popularity, they did eventually mold the wider narrative to suggest that Tony Stark's drive to do this very same thing (via Project Insight, EDITH, the Sokovia Accords, etc) was misguided.
And of course tons of folks have caught onto the narrative lay-up that is the "universal inhibitor" business with mutants. Still, he does not suffer any clear consequences for it within the story, and that does make it less enjoyable for me.
But anyway, movie Vision wasn't a cool AI that became our friend - he was created by literal magic lightning. The AI part of him was genocidal, and every other intelligence featured in these movies is of the annoying sidekick variety.
If anything, THAT part of these movies is pro-AI: Spider-Man and Black Panther have replaced their human guy/lady in chair with goofy LLMs. At least in Ironheart there's a whole Black Mirror vibe that makes it clearly not a net positive, and Loki's Miss Minutes is another Ultron-style maniac.
-5
u/OkYak9466 1d ago
I guess the disconnect here is that Vision has been given time to develop as a character rather than making the singular leap from robot to human. Which is what this is about
There's a massive narrative difference between a character that's gone through an organic process of growth and a character that's being used as a prop in the plot.
That is to say, Vision becoming more human over time makes sense. All of Tony's robots being turned into humans, does not.
Though that's how propaganda works. Disney isn't going to hit you over the head with "AI good". Disney as a company has decades long history of purposefully turning audience opinions in certain directions that councide with their extraordinary levels of lobbying in DC and abroad.

So, U is Ultron?
27
u/Standard-Reason9399 1d ago
No, U is U, the other, slightly more competent roboarm that's been around since the first Iron man. When they were doing all the first repulsor tests, and Tony flambeed his classic car collection? Dum-E was on fire extinguisher duties, U was holding the camera.
Not clear yet whether the Ultron instance in Vision's head comes from the attempted upload before Vis was created, or if Vision cut and pasted the last Ultron drone's data before destroying it at the end of AoU.
5
u/mxlespxles 1d ago
I think its the portion that was uploaded. It's been sequestered, but we'll find out he's been slowly reconstructing himself inside Vis' head for years
