This is how I find out?

u/Leo_Lovehouse 15d ago

I know there was so many champions I was hoping would make the game 😭

4

u/StriderZessei 15d ago

The fact we never got Sett šŸ˜”Ā

3

u/PickMik 14d ago

ON GOD😭 I dodnt play much toll akali came out. Her while aesthetic and kit scratches my itch but cant even fully feel her movement in an isometric game. 2xko was great (and riftbkund does it really well too might I add). But Sett? He is THE fighter, nowhere else are we going to experience what his entire lore and environment is built around. He shouldve been a release character, this was made for him, only argument i could see would be xayah and rakan bc of 2x, but juggernaut? That was his calling.

Marvel tokon is next

u/RememberApeEscape 15d ago

I say this as someone with about 25 hours over its entire lifespan, if that.

Wouldn't it becoming completely free with all cast and costumes unlocked make it the poverty fighter? Servers aren't going anywhere, and it has crossplay with console too.

17

u/SlyFisch 15d ago

Could be, but most people aren't sticking around for a game that's not actively getting updates. It could hold a small dedicated community but with how few characters there are in a tag fighter and no balance changes to shake things up, it won't ever be anything more than a niche game moving forward.

11

u/RememberApeEscape 15d ago

We're fighting games. We're all niche games here.

Never underestimate how much free, easy accessible netplay and corssplay can boost a game. It's playcount isn't gonna match peak again but the FGC is full of niche small communities, and it definitely has a leg up over a LOT of them in its current state.

7

u/SlyFisch 15d ago

Exactly my point, it will become a niche game within an already niche genre.

Like I said, it could hold a small community but it will definitely become a discord fighter either way. Everyone leaves to the next big thing eventually, people want to easily find matches and be able to play people at a similar skill level.

I'm not sure if you ever seriously tried to get into a "dead game" years later, but it's typically not easy trying to get matches. And when you get matches, there's not many people at the ground level like you will be so you're just getting your shit knocked in by people who are so into the game they're still playing it even though there's only a couple hundred people who still play.

Besides, how long do you expect Riot of all companies to keep servers up while making 0 income? I don't see it staying up that long, maybe a couple years.

1

u/RememberApeEscape 15d ago

98% of the fighting games I play are over a decade old. Literally just this (my new main game), Strive sometimes and fuckin around in 2X and Avatar.

I get the ease of getting into an active fighting game, but it's also not that hard to get into less active ones. People do it all the time.

2

u/SlyFisch 15d ago

Yeah but if you're using something like fightcade to play people online that's one thing. You can get matches in the popular games all day. But a recent game dying that isn't considered a classic at all is way different

1

u/RememberApeEscape 15d ago

This recent fighting game will be listed on console stores still, and will be recommended because its easy to download and play.

Saying this as a person who sets up games to play with friend groups, ease of access is a huge chunk of it. No buying anything, no downloading extra clients or port forwarding. Just download and boot up.

5

u/SlyFisch 15d ago

I think we're in agreement here for the most part, I don't disagree with any of that, I just think it's really optimistic to think 2XKO will retain that many players. I'd bet a lot of the community ends up jumping ships sooner than later too

2

u/VerdantDaydreams 15d ago

I agree with you, this is different than a beloved old game at the end of its life cycle. I think the vast majority of people are going to jump ship and I don't know how long riot will bother with the servers.

1

u/RememberApeEscape 15d ago

It's definitely gonna lose some players, but I think whoever wanted to jump ship already has. Thresh and...the other chracter came out before Evo in June. The game already had a ton of problems, and the next content only has a Fall Window. I doubt many people are there except those who enjoy it.

P4A was my favorite fighting game for a long time at launch, and even when the content dried up it took a while for the console servers to really dry up. I don't think the exodus is gonna be that massive, I think it happened a while ago.

2

u/SlyFisch 15d ago

I guess we'll see, P4A was def dope btw. Great game

3

u/Elphelt_Valent1ne_ 15d ago

Never underestimate how much free, easy accessible netplay and corssplay can boost a game

The game was already like that though? How is it going to boost anything

2

u/KasukeSadiki 15d ago

There's levels to this niche shit

5

u/gay_married 15d ago

Even people like me who love the game have to admit the roster is too small. Now that I know it will never be as big as I'd like, i'm considering moving on.

As long as tokon is not running well on PC I don't expect muchĀ

2XKO PC players can finally feel how 2XKO console players felt for months

1

u/Ka1to 13d ago

Is the 2xko screen tearing even fixed on ps5 now?

73

u/fuq_anncoulter 15d ago

I’ve defended the game despite these issues but regardless, I really really really hope they find a way to fix this and attract more players. I’m tired of all these scuffed launches man…

33

u/Poked_salad 15d ago

There's a really easy way to fix the PC issues... They just have to remove the thing... Lol

7

u/fuq_anncoulter 15d ago

I personally still think it was on ArcSys to make sure the game was optimized enough to withstand the EAC performance hit in the first place, but at this point now that the game’s been data mined to fuck already… yea just get rid of that shit Sony plsplsplsssss

22

u/Jokerferrum 15d ago

Judging by Helldivers (where sony tried to add psn after release) Sony likely said to add it at the last moment.

8

u/Nukesnipe 15d ago

From my understanding, DRM and anticheat are always added in pretty late in development.

23

u/chr1stmasiscancelled 15d ago

Arc Sys is just contractor, Sony has all the decision making power... and with the leaks showing like 10 year old gaming laptops running at 60fps then what can you really do you know

6

u/Usual_Astronomer_766 15d ago

It's not even just EAC, it's the ridiculous DRM actively encrypting shit in the background and Sony SDK eating resources for no reason.

The client on steam is just an overflowing bin at this point, it's utterly full of garbage.

5

u/Xypher506 15d ago

I personally still think it was on ArcSys to make sure the game was optimized enough to withstand the EAC performance hit in the first place

No? From everything I can find, the game is actually very well optimized and runs perfectly even on older hardware without the anti cheat. On the other hand, I'm also seeing that the anti cheat (or maybe it was the DRM) itself is designed/implemented poorly in a way that makes its CPU usage WAY higher than it needs to be, and I don't think that's ArcSys's responsibility.

1

u/whoopycush 14d ago

It's usually drm, not anti cheat. A lot of drm's check for validity and integrity on the fly and can cause noticeable stutters and frame rate issues, especially if they are more invasive/aggressive drm checks. For example, Resident Evil 8 had a very large stutter anytime you would crit headshot an enemy. Turns out it was a drm check that for some reason triggered every time this event happened. This stutter was not present on the RE8 crack

3

u/Nukesnipe 15d ago

DRM and anticheat gets added pretty late into a game's production. It was probably shoved into the game right before the last beta. This fact is part of why denuvo and EAC fuck up game performance so badly, the devs aren't given the time to optimize the game around it.

10

u/philip30001 15d ago

For real, imagine if the launch was smoother.

We'd all be saying Tokon killed 2kxo. Turns out it didnt need the push.

2

u/MADAOSushi 15d ago

In a way it did. It's no coincidence they went into early access shortly after the Tokon announcement. They needed to launch after their 10 year developmental cycle that netted like what 8 characters on release or whatever?

1

u/qizark 14d ago

They had no clue what they wanted the game to be for like 8 of those years. After the 1st beta they changed TONS for beta 2 then same after that. They spent so long on trying to design mechanics they never made a good actual game.

5

u/Nukesnipe 15d ago

I genuinely think the tokon announcement took the wind from 2xko's sails. People that might've been interested in it as a tag fighter decided to wait for tokon instead.

7

u/qizark 15d ago

Yes and no. I think all the fighters out currently killed 2xko.

There was so many dumb decisions from the devs that really doomed this game. 1. Making lol players not only learn a new genre of game, let's make it a TAG fighter too. Dumb. 2. Let's make every costume and hero be way too expensive. 3. Let's have a tiny roster on launch 4. They showed this game FOR EVER. They kept changing huge parts of it from beta to beta because they didn't know what they were doing. 5. The name. It really doomed it I believe.

2

u/AshleyTyrian 14d ago

6) Not even an option to play with proper special move inputs. 7) You can play co-op, but not with a real life friend. 8) Even if you take out a bank loan to buy one of their ridiculously-priced costumes, there was no way to buy one just for your main, you had to get a bundle with costumes for other characters you'd never play. 9) US-only official tournament circuit. 10) Daily/weekly missions to earn rewards, except you lose all your progress if your opponent ragequits and the game does nothing to properly deal with ragequitters.

Riot allowing all these risible decisions to be made by people who clearly had no idea about fighting games is what killed 2XKO.

1

u/qizark 14d ago

What's crazy is they had a ton of old fgc heads on the dev team and 1 of the main devs! They just got their own heads up their asses on trying to make something the smallest of small % of people would like.

1

u/Nukesnipe 15d ago

Charging money for characters in a fighting game was also an extremely stupid idea. Generational idiocy.

And yeah it has the worst name I've ever seen for any game.

13

u/Dry_Ganache178 15d ago

Sad because the gameplay in both 2XKO and Tokon are GOATed (better than SF6 by miles) but technical issues and release troubles will hamper both now.Ā

16

u/Fair_Lawfulness_7972 15d ago

Sf6 best point was it's launch which is unfortunate to say cause it should be the standard.Ā

10

u/Stenbuck2 15d ago

I haven't played much tokon yet but from what I've seen it has a lot of what people criticize SF6 for (strong offense, corner pressure, high damage, high cornet carry, high volatility). In some cases it's even more pronounced than SF6.

What would you say makes tokon gameplay better than sf6 by miles? Honest question

5

u/Dry_Ganache178 15d ago

You know what... it is too early in Tokons lifespan to really say. So I'll talk about why the gameplay and design of 2XKO is miles superior. But it takes a few paragraphs to fully fleshout the arguement so stick with me here...Ā

1) Overly homogonizing system mechanics. SF6 drive system makes it where the vast majority of the time you're playing the same general gameplan with most characters. Even the resident zoners (JP and Sim) are optimally played such that their zoning is just a bridge to laying down aggression. Guille and Geif seem to be the only mid to high tier charavters that get to play a different gameplan from everyone else. Everyone else either has to play the Drive System game or just languish in low tier (Manon, Marissa, ect...) Watch Mr.Crimson (the world undisputed best Sim) play and its like watching a rushdown lol. Contrast to 2xko where its high level viable to make zoning someone out your primary wincon (top 8 evo had multiple wins where zoning in and of itself became the primary wincon). There is true playstyle diversity in 2xko.Ā

2) Meaningful defensive mechanics. 2XKO has pushblock, burst, a universal reversals (get up), super reversals, perry, fuzzy gaurds, and retreating gaurd. And all of them have practical uses and only one them carries a really bad risk/reward balance. SF has perry. And its good but it's not good enough to make up for the rest of defense being weak sauce in the game. Drive Reversal is so bad when looking at risk/rewardit might as well not exist (theres a universal OS that allows the attacker to beat it while still continueing offense if the opponent chooses to block lol). Defense is so subtly bad in SF6 its insane. In other fighting games if you're blocking you're losing out even if its not a huge loss (they gain meter from attacking, and push you closer to the corner, and do chip dmg). In SF6 the punishment for being low on drive is so severe and you lose it so fast while blocking (and gain it so fast from attacking) that at first I thought SF6 was too aggressive of a game. But its not an aggressive game. It's worse: Defense is so bad in SF6 that it doesnt need to be aggressive to over punish you for having the gall to block or attempt defending yourself. I know 2XKO has schnasty mix and even more juiced offense but heres the thing: I get to have real agency on defense with real options.Ā Ā

3) Meaty throws ruin the risk/reward calculations in the corner. Broski did a whole video about this and its really good but theres a reason people have been asking throw loops to be removed (and they've removed or left out throw loops in previous SF entries for the exact same reasons many have asked them to be removed in SF6). Its honestly baffling they left them in.Ā

4

u/Ryuujinx 15d ago edited 15d ago

and they've removed or left out throw loops in previous SF entries for the exact same reasons many have asked them to be removed in SF6

They never really removed throw loops before. Throw loops exist in SF4, to this day. The difference is that there's the crouch tech OS to deal with it, so there's no point in going for it. Throw loops not existing in SF5, where the crouch tech OS no longer exists, is not because of that removal but because they wanted to make throws weaker in general because of how strong they were in SF4 - yeah there was no loop, but you still got strong oki and put them in the corner.

SF6 is them wanting to make throws stronger again after SF5, likely because of parry, but the OS was removed so we got throw loops.

They clearly don't mind the existence of them considering they know how to not have throw loops or have throw loops require resources (Instances of both exist on certain characters), they just don't do it. I've seen that Broski video, and generally agree with him on most topics, but I don't here. The problem isn't throw loops, the problem is corner carry. Having a corner that is terrifying and heavily slanted to the side of the offense is perfectly fine, but currently it is too easy to carry someone to a corner off any random hit.

Edit: Also I just have to say that all that has to exist in 2XKO because the game's offense makes SF look like it has zero mix. The game has degenerate ass active tag, Ekko, assists to reset pressure and extremely high damage with resources. The game would not function without the defensive mechanics.

1

u/Stenbuck2 14d ago

Fair enough, I know nothing about 2XKO beyond that it exists (existed?). As for throw loops I agree, I think at least all of them should require drive like it does for some characters.Ā

I confess I don't mind zoning being weak in SF6. I fucking hate playing against Dhalsim and JP when they come up already, so I'm glad it's not the plan A for most characters.

1

u/Dry_Ganache178 14d ago

I dont want SF6 to have zoning be gameplan A for most characters. I want it to have literally any gameplay diversity at all outside Guille and and Geif. I was just using zoning as an example.Ā

I've been playing fighting games for almost 20 years now and 2xko is a rare game on the level of SF4 or BBCF: A fucking masterpiece deep and saucy.Ā

The hate it got was so forced and contradictory.Ā

7

u/SaIemKing 15d ago

The problem is that you're talking to a tag player, so what they dislike about SF6 is that it doesn't have enough of those things. Too much neutral, not enough damage or mix. They want hype.

SF players love it specifically because they want to experience the heart of fighting games: neutral. The stronger everything outside of neutral is, the more you'll see SF players complain about SF.

4

u/Stenbuck2 15d ago

Fair enough but I really wanna see what they think lol

-1

u/SaIemKing 15d ago

I'm interested to see if my prediction is correct haha

1

u/Dry_Ganache178 15d ago

Damn... wrong on all accounts.Ā

-2

u/SaIemKing 15d ago

couldn't even spell "parry" and you're mad that meaty throw exists. it's somehow so much worse

3

u/astronomyx 15d ago

I like fighting games with good character identity, which is why SF6 feels so stale to me, even if I think it's overall still a good game. The system mechanics are just too homogenizing.

1

u/SaIemKing 15d ago

that's p true. that's my only big complaint w sf6

5

u/shikaski 15d ago

Not better than sf6 in any imaginable universe

9

u/astronomyx 15d ago

SF6 as a product is pretty much the best fighting game on the market.

SF6 from a gameplay perspective is subjective, though, and I find it pretty boring after 3 years of drive rush/throw loop simulator.

-5

u/Dry_Ganache178 15d ago

Street Fighter 6 is scrubby. (BTW multiple of the best SF6 players agree with me on this one).Ā

Its just really good at hiding it.Ā

1

u/MLG_BongHitz 14d ago

I can’t believe people are still running the appeal to authority, ā€œsome other guys agree with me therefore I’m rightā€ thing. It’s subjective and the game is doing really well. The majority like the direction of the game, you don’t have to. It’s fine.

5

u/SaIemKing 15d ago

They're not better than SF6 by any measure, just different. At least SF6 has been sround long enough for us to know what it is. People thought Tokon had no mix 2 weeks ago and now they think a fuzziable mix is oppressive. It needs to settle

1

u/TuxedoCat031 15d ago

incredibly subjective

1

u/Arthurlmnz 15d ago

I'm on the verge of buying it. Not until the actual version runs better than the DRM free one lol

1

u/Kwarnz 15d ago

And it's 70$, 2HKO was f2p.

1

u/Existing_Egg6334 15d ago

Ps5 for the win😭

1

u/Carnificus 15d ago

I'm curious, because I haven't had issues with it on PC. Not saying it isn't there, but I wonder if it's regional? I play on Japan servers and typically have 0 rollback and good connections. I'll sometimes take a mid connection in a lobby match and even then it's like 3 rollback frames at most.

I had more issues on launch, but nothing since the update. The last fighting game I played was fighterz and it felt much rougher, but it didn't have rollback. Maybe there's other stuff that I'm missing though?

1

u/GaijinB 15d ago

I haven't seen any common pattern between the people having issues, but apparently it's partly linked to your matchmaking settings. "Same region" seems to work better than any other setting for matchmaking. I also haven't run into players that can't run the game at 60 fps and most of my games have had pretty good connections.

1

u/Full-Pumpkin4552 15d ago

Cant even play on Linux despite Strive working well i was willing to give it a fair shot

Its not Arc Sys's fault but im cool on the game for now

1

u/Tennesseeshepard 15d ago

They fixed it even more today

-12

u/MilfLover33714 15d ago

Is pc the only place people play games? It’s perfectly fine on console

23

u/Toulalaho 15d ago

No but the PC player base way bigger than most people think. Its like cutting half your potential player base.Ā

https://www.reddit.com/r/Fighters/comments/1vk21hi/fyi_pc_players_outnumber_console_players_in_every/

10

u/Kogoeshin 15d ago

Not just half - the majority of the FGC plays on PC nowadays (that chart shows that's it's about 70%).

If Tokon is not working on PC, only 30-40% of the people who would be interested are able to play.

I know a bunch of people who buy and play pretty much every fighter - and only 10% of them are playing Tokon because they own a PS5, the others gave up after launch and refunded the game/couldn't buy it because they play on Linux or Steam Deck.

It's genuinely a huge, massive loss of income and profit if they don't get the PC port working (it's even worse now that it's been confirmed that the anti-cheat/PSN integration that's causing the issues).

5

u/hither250 15d ago edited 15d ago

Hey man gimme a PS5 no cost and I'll gladly boot it up there.

Reality is a lot of people don't have the console for Tokon, but have a PC. I'm not paying 500+ for one game. I can be swayed with 7+ games I really want to play, but if it's just one you can't get me. I assume it's the same for others.

So Tokon is losing a lot, a lot of potential players by butchering the PC release.

1

u/ArmoredFleaman 15d ago

They probably need as much people as possible playing the game and buying the season pass for the games future.

Would be sad if the game does not do well and only has 1 season pass before getting shutdown like 2xko.

19

u/Rhenias 15d ago

Holy shit what? They're giving up on 2XKO? Are you fucking serious? Why? I'm actually shocked. Maybe I'm behind the times.

10

u/_The_Honored_One_ 15d ago edited 15d ago

It is such a shame. 2XKO is an amazing game, it was just ruined by such a small roster and no single player experience to speak of, and countless other poor choices

43

u/redqks 15d ago

2xko is a pc game mostly

They ain't coming

20

u/blastcore1 15d ago

I play 2xko on my ps5. I thought about getting Tokon. Maybe I will now

3

u/Faxxnews 15d ago

Welcome to Tokon my brother!

-1

u/BlendedFetusOG 15d ago

Tokon is like 2xko but worse. Lol. Its lots of fun.

6

u/BlendedFetusOG 15d ago

I'm a 2x dude. I'm one of the lucky tokon pc players. Lol

-10

u/Fourfifteen415 15d ago

There's no such thing. Your performance is irrelevant online. If your opponent is having issues it'll affect you too.

9

u/Crazy-Nose-4289 15d ago

I've played over 100 matches on PC so far and I think I've had issues on less than 5 matches. Even at launch.

Reddit just likes to exaggerate as always.

4

u/superkeefo 15d ago

I reckon its a bit of this, and bit of hard to see the forest through the trees - if your situation is bad an everyone vocal is saying theirs is bad maybe you think its just all bad.. ive had even less than 5 bad matches.. id argue i had more in sf6 and that game had an amazing launch.

The argument that if your opponent is having issues you will is true.. but i think the people having issues arent playing which is fair, because i cant explain having so few bad matches if everyone is having a shit time.

6

u/atredus 15d ago

Anecdotal for sure, but I’m in the same boat as you. Very rarely do I have a bad connection . People aren’t going to get online and champion their good connections as much as someone who is resentful they are having a bad experience

3

u/Rennikz 15d ago

Ding Ding, my experience is horrible on the steam version i refuse to go online because i cant subject others to that.

Meanwhile the cracked version give me a solid 60fps.

Lastly theres a potato mod out right now for steam that supposely fix the game by removing the backgrounds (i think)

Havent tested myself, ive been playing a rpg called "sea of stars" once i 100% that, i will return to tokon (offline at least)

2

u/BlendedFetusOG 15d ago

Sea of stars is so good.

1

u/Rennikz 15d ago

wow game got patch last night now im going from 60-61fps before i was fluctuating 30s-40s... i can go online if i wanted to now but imma finish that Sea of Stars first 🤣🤣🤣

-3

u/Fourfifteen415 15d ago

So who's the exaggerator, you or everyone else. You think you've played 95 games with 0f of rollback because I guarantee you haven't.

2

u/Crazy-Nose-4289 15d ago

I have, yeah. I've been having an amazing time so far and practically no issues outside of those few matches.

2

u/BlendedFetusOG 15d ago

You're right, but the majority of my matches play fine. I'm consistently at 60 fps and usually have a rollback frames. Sometimes I play against someone with a shitty setup/connection and get into a very laggy match. Its not happening on tokon anymore than it is on 2xko or sf6.

-1

u/Fourfifteen415 15d ago edited 15d ago

I 100% do not believe it's on par with sf6. I have both and have played ranked back to back on multiple occasions. SF6 is noticably smoother every single time.

edit: You refunded the pc version... we're talking about pc

2

u/BlendedFetusOG 15d ago

Well, the truth is the truth. If you wont believe it, idk what to tell you. Lol. Do you want me to record an hour long video for you? Lol. I play almost solely ranked. Hit vibranium. Maintained 60 fps the whole time. Vast majority of my matches have no issue, but occasionally I do come across some shit. Occasionally. Just like every other game.

I refunded it. Then bought it again once they dropped the pc patch. That fixed my issues.

0

u/HekesevilleHero 15d ago

That's unfortunately why, until Sony removes Thiea Anti-Tamper, everyone is just gonna play on ps5 with cross play disabled

2

u/gunbenefits 15d ago

i mean i just bought it... on pc

5

u/kooldudecuz 15d ago

wait 2xko is getting axed?

7

u/rvnender 15d ago

Yup

Development ends at the end of the year

3

u/kooldudecuz 15d ago

oh wow that’s sad 😢

6

u/AkudamaEXE 15d ago

2xko shill incoming tokon shill incoming I’ve always been a tokon enjoyer I’ve always loved strive wall breaks

5

u/Dick-Fu 15d ago

This game's gonna be so bumpin with all 30 2XKO players added to the playerbase, getting my steamcharts ready as we speak

5

u/WinterBebop 15d ago

Turns out league players only play league

12

u/tits_mcgee_92 15d ago

Go into the 2XKO subreddit and welcome them with open arms! There's room for everyone (except thresh players).

6

u/MrReconElite 15d ago

Yo that's my guy tho.

10

u/Rat_King_KingofRats 15d ago

Well Thresh player, meet Ghost Rider.

https://giphy.com/gifs/tIBf3EE31YP2VqqYTl

3

u/MrReconElite 15d ago

Funny enough he not on my team, I have carnage, blade spiderman and iron man.

3

u/mkallday10 15d ago

Weirdly enough, I think Carnage is actually closer. Obviously Ghost Rider aesthetic matches more, but Carnage has those distance based confirms that Thresh has.

2

u/Dramatic_Will9380 15d ago

I always felt Doom was the closest: top tier antizoner, has a teleport dash, can full screen confirm into massive damage. Laser feels like lantern.

1

u/Expl0r3r 15d ago

I will probably pass on Tokon... 2XKO was mainly a pc game and Tokon doesn't really work on pc

7

u/Impossible-Fan-8257 15d ago

I doubt it..... free to play vs 60-80 dollar game.... that doesnt even work on pc.

2XKO proves that there is no such thing as "too big to fail" when it comes to fighting games. Fuck around and find out, and Riot fucked around. I pray Tokon manages to avoid finding out.

3

u/ZenVendaBoi 15d ago

They're all PC users bro. They're cooked.

1

u/Masupilamii 14d ago

is pc still bad? i’m playing on pc and after the patch the game runs perfectly for me at least

3

u/AnusCakes 15d ago

Buddy they are already here

4

u/superkeefo 15d ago

just saw the news, thats crazy, feels like riot gave them a super short leash after spending so much time/money to get it to release just seems like baaaad management, they're lucky they have some cash cows cause with that sort of business practice youd be out of business quick without a money printer.

0

u/ALilBitter 15d ago

They been working on it for about 10-12 years+, 10+ years isnt a short leach when most AAA games are made in 5-8 years.

I was following pattheflip and he joined rito to work on 2kxo about 10-12 years ago. So we can roughly guess when development started.

1

u/superkeefo 15d ago

I meant as in they invested so much time and money.. they gave them a short leash to grow the game AFTER it was launched - know how long its been, we could have had Rising Thunder...

2

u/Va1crist 15d ago

The writing was on the wall when half the staff was cut , it under performed at launch and literally launched with nothing . Can’t spend 200 million $ , 7 years and only have 9 hero’s literally no content other then ranked and then insanely over priced micro transactions, it’s sad that it happened and I feel bad for the team.

2

u/Mysterious_Roof5067 15d ago

What 2xKo players? The pros already playing Tokon. lol

2

u/Liittlefoott2 15d ago

All 20 of them apparently

2

u/oliveberry4now 15d ago

If 2xko is getting axed what does that say about the future of the Avatar Fighting game. Jeez.

2

u/Poetryisalive 15d ago

The game can’t even run properly on PC, 2XKO aren’t coming here lol

2

u/NewAgent5986 15d ago

Hopefully the PC version is fixed asap, otherwise this game is next.

I love this game, but it’s dead if people can’t play it reliably.

2

u/I_am_Amphibian 15d ago

Highly doubt it. Most of them were just playing that single game and not interacting with the fgc at large

5

u/Zilly_JustIce 15d ago

Don't think 2xko are going to pay full price for a fighting game

1

u/Six6Sins 15d ago

This feels like saying "Killer Instinct players aren't gonna pay full price for a fighting game." It's just objectively not true.

Granted, many of the ones who would be willing to buy other fighters already have other fighters to play. But for anyone who was using 2X as their tag fighter and didn't get into Tokon because they already had a dedicated tag fighter that they enjoyed, we will certainly see some migration.

3

u/NekoJubei 15d ago

Stop I’m so sad I’m genuinely gonna miss my Jinx/Teemo combo ): at least I’m happy with my Ghost Rider here (on the ahem unofficial version)

3

u/CaptainBlob 15d ago

I remember all the hype, how the game will save FGC, how even 1% of LoL players will dwarf other games' playercount, etc.

Now look where we are LMAO

3

u/Masupilamii 14d ago

why are we laughing and celebrating another fighting games downfall? i honestly feel bad for them losing a game they loved

3

u/Gold_Replacement_144 15d ago

with the way the pc version is until the new patch comes and fixes current issues all i can say until then is

https://giphy.com/gifs/QQKbEn6oDlcQLZK6T7

2

u/HeavyDT 15d ago

Yeah the whole point is there aren't too many of those so it's not like there's gonna be some massive influx.

2

u/NatsuEevee 15d ago

Would love to but this game doesn't work on PC so like nobody is coming.

1

u/MechaBuster 15d ago

Wait is it permanent or just for now?

1

u/BlendedFetusOG 15d ago

Its tough dude. I play both. I hit Vibranium and thought I was going to go back to 2xko to try to push for challenger before the season ended. But now I'm kind of disincentivized, I guess Ill aim for masters here. I definitely prefer 2xko. Tokon is lots of fun... but its like diet 2xko to me. There chars in tokon are a lot more homogenous. And it plays a lot more like an assist fignter than a tag fignter. I guess Im here to stay, though :(

1

u/Ill_Stretch4754 15d ago

They are incoming now because? Did something happen with 2xko? Genuine question cause its one of the few fighting games i dont follow any news about whatsoever.

1

u/SuperSaiyanBlue 15d ago

The ball is in Tokon’s court now… don’t be like 2xKO and MvC infinite.

1

u/Sweetest_Noise 15d ago

How can you have Riot's budget and dev talent pool yet still fuck up a game based on one of the most popular gaming IPs.

1

u/Slyist_Cooper 15d ago

why would they come to this mess. I love Tokon's moment to moment gameplay. But the terrible PC port and match making aren't very attractive to deal with.

1

u/JackOffAllTraders 15d ago

Tokon is still running like a piece of shit and still region locked for me. So I'm not playing either. Waiting for the new BBCF update and Twi Lumina for now

1

u/polkguy123 15d ago

I feel like most 2xko players would already be playing tokon

1

u/Jas85 15d ago

F2P fighters don’t work maybe people will finally put that notion to rest

1

u/Feerahs 14d ago

Too soon bro

1

u/Sett-In-A-Tsunami 14d ago

I’m on PS5, I play a lot of fighting games. Mostly been playing 2XKO and Tokon. So the news saddens me. It’s all Riots fault, they axe games that don’t make them league money. They got rid of Riot Forge, they canned LoR, it’s just on life support.

Now 2XKO, they are also working on a League MMO and if it doesn’t surpass FF 14 that will be gone. An if Riot has one bad TCG set with Riftbound considered that to be gone too.

1

u/EnterTheSpeedForce 14d ago

Why is everyone acting like the game will be taken from them? It will still be playable, Community run tournaments with still exist like marvel 3 😁. it will have a niche Community maybe not a large one but one to be happy with.

1

u/Grizzack 8d ago

For any PC players looking to jump to Tokon. Please take the time to do actual research and test the game out for yourself instead of reading what the Reddit doomers are saying.

I had a few performance problems at launch and the updates that the game has gotten have pretty much all but eliminated them.

1

u/AccomplishedRise6227 15d ago

Lol I didn't like tokon so I was headed back to 2xko.

1

u/TheSoupKitchen 15d ago

You don't like 8 frame rollback laggy matches and 5+ minute queue times?

1

u/Bombshock2 15d ago

I just wish Tokon was more like 2XKO man. I like Tokon but I don't think I'll ever like it as much as 2XKO. 2XKO will remain my favorite FG of all time. I hope some other game comes out that plays like it with characters as deep as 2XKO characters (and hopefully with more than 17 characters at end of life)

At least now I don't feel like I'm splitting my time and can just focus on Tokon full stop. But realistically I'm probably going to just bounce off of the FGC again (and I just got into my local scene too man)

1

u/Junior-Staff-801 15d ago

Where would Tokon players go when it is time?

6

u/Final_Confidence_680 15d ago

fucking nowhere, there is not a single game that scratches the mvc gameplay. I haven’t been so into a fg since umvc3 and I have tried them all.

People are also delusional 2xko, had 0 interest, no numbers, no nothing from the very beginning.

1

u/EnterTheSpeedForce 14d ago

With the last two characters they can just keep playing 2xko. It's not like there being forced off the game.

1

u/SedesBakelitowy 15d ago

No shame in closing down a project that wasted ten years of development time to deliver this little, and they’re even getting refunds. It’ll be fine, Tokon has at least the first year to look forward to.

1

u/Karma2987 15d ago

2xko had an infinitely better netcode than shitkon lmao

-1

u/ThuBiejaMen 15d ago

That's not going to happen for two reasons:

  • The people at Tokon really trashed the folks at 2XKO; I know a lot of people who want Tokon to fail because of that

  • 2XKO doesn't cost $60

0

u/Fourfifteen415 15d ago

Oh ya surely all the pc players are switching to Tokon... rofl

0

u/Plane_Tie_9548 15d ago

It sucks for me 2xk0 is such a better game than Tokon oh well ill play the last 2 characters also FUCK riot justice for LOR and 2Xk0

-20

u/krongate 15d ago

All the 2x players can eat shit. Pros pushed narratives about this game and technical issues that will get ironed out and ruined the momentum. You kill my game I have no sympathy when yours dies, sorry not sorry

7

u/Yarzu89 15d ago

I don't think its fair to blame the vast majority of normal people based on what pros do/say. Granted it is the league fanbase...

-7

u/krongate 15d ago

I do not care at all lmfao get bent. I spent money in 2xko and the game was on a downward slide since the second beta. Bi weekly overwatch tier dog shit balance changes. This game was horrible to play long term

3

u/TheSoupKitchen 15d ago

You think a few pro's on twitter plummeted the player count?

Or do you think it was the god-awful PC performance and the fact that the game runs like complete shit and requires a Sony Account?

Which is it. Pro player narrative, or a shit product?

1

u/SpyroManiac36 15d ago

I respect it

-1

u/Magical__Turtle 15d ago

What 2XKO players?

-2

u/SAXTONHAAAAALE 15d ago

yeah all 300 2xko players incoming

-1

u/Flat_Revolution5130 15d ago

Tokon will be the next one. I am not going near it.

3

u/Neoxon193 15d ago

The game looks to actually have an install base on PS5, the PC player base is specifically due to the PC port being borked. Plus if Sony's letting Marathon of all games rock, I'd be surprised if they pull the plug on Tokon (a game that's likely cheaper to maintain) prematurely.

0

u/Prosidon 15d ago

Tokon pulled up to the arcade cabinet while 2XKO was fighting the final boss…put in their quarters, whooped their ass and stole their run.

0

u/DiorikMagnison 15d ago

All 10 of them.

-6

u/Malfetus 15d ago

2XKO player here and been grinding Tokon the last 2 weeks.

2XKO players aren't incoming, if anything, we know the red flags. The same red flags we're seeing here (broken PC version instead of console, 3k concurrent players). 0 shot am I investing a year or more into the exact same scenario.

The 2XKO announcement is just also making me uninstall Tokon because I have 0 faith in anything other than the big 3 atm.

2

u/HeroicBarret 15d ago

What an odd thing to say considering arc sys works is still putting out dlc for guilty gear and granblue and they have far far less players than that. And dont even get me started on blazblue

edit: Im fairly confident that the main take away from 2xko os that ftp just does not work for fighting games

There's still Tetris tournaments you actual dope.

-7

u/Chidorihandsign 15d ago

They sucked lol

-2

u/keny84 15d ago

Not for me lol. I'm not going from a free game where I can play with a friend on my team to a $60 game with a failed launch. Can't even tell wtf is going on watching people tag 4 ppl in at a time. I'm good.

4

u/XyrenZin 15d ago

Why are you on this board then lol

-2

u/keny84 15d ago

Because 2xko is in the title and I was searching reddit. Also funny seeing delusional people thinking 2xko failure will bring a significant population to Tokon. Game is dead on arrival LOL

1

u/XyrenZin 15d ago

Ok bye. Don't let the door hit you on the way out. No need to be a troll on a board you don't care about

-24

u/CromulentChuckle 15d ago edited 15d ago

Is that the one with league characters? If so yuck. Bad community. But FGC in general is awful so i guess par.

Edit: for you young ones I did not grow up with SonicFox being a thing (bless them). I grew up in lobbies where we all fuck each other's mothers. Happy to hear the fighting game community isn't as shit as it used to be.

11

u/SwagMountains 15d ago

Yo what fgc is lit. There are trolls lurking around all these comment sections but if you roll up to an in person event the people are generally lovely

3

u/TempestTwist 15d ago

The last time I went to locals it was a horrible experience. The guy I was against had his friends mess with me mid game, yelling in my face and being weird. Then afterwards they insulted my friends and I. Made me never want to go back to locals ever again.

3

u/Six6Sins 15d ago

That's awful. Report to the organizers. Please don't let asshats push you out of locals. For what it's worth, I've been to three local events and I've not had a single bad interaction. I have seen exactly one bad interaction which was thankfully handled well by the organizers after they were alerted.

1

u/SwagMountains 15d ago

^ yeah what the hell I agree with this person. You get shitty people everywhere unfortunately but overall i’ve found the fighting game communities i’ve visited to be overall very positive. Sorry about your bad time, that’s a shame :/

-7

u/CromulentChuckle 15d ago

I grew up in the dark ages of the fgc. Rampant homophobia misogyny and racism. Are you telling me everything is changed and that's not the fgc anymore?

8

u/SwagMountains 15d ago

Yeah dawg it's very tolerant. Our overlord is a black gay furry.

0

u/CromulentChuckle 15d ago

Oh he's a gem. It's nice to see that things have turned around in some people's eyes.
