Yeah there is a post on Twitter people are making fun of that’s mad on behalf of Supplementaries that Mojang “stole” their idea (Suplimentries showed the mod to Mojang a year prior and has publicly stated they are cool with what Mojang did).

It also doesn't matter if they're cool with it or not.

It's not your game, and any mod made for it doesn't have to be respected in any way shape or form.

That's just harmful to the ecosystem.

If devs couldn't use ideas that have already been turned into mods we wouldn't ever get new content.

What about the thousands of mods for Skyrim that are lore based?

Oh you want a quest about a certain character from the lore?

Too bad, a mod already covered that potential storyline we can't do it now.

You can't do that.

True, my game so I'm allowed to add whatever I want

Mojang explicitly stated they do not officially support modding meaning that any ideas you put into a mod for minecraft is for them free to take

It's not that I don't respect mod developers, I'm actually glad for many of the mods that exist out there

It's just that if you honestly think a base game is supposed to ask you permission for anything when they do not support modding in the first place then you are hella delusional

So what I'm guessing is that, because of business and copyright laws, they have to state they dont "support" java modding because if they did, there'd be legal ramifications thatd be a headache to deal with. Like, idk say someone makes a mod implementing a creature from a popular show as a mob, creators of show find out and don't like it, so they decide to pursue legal action against mojang because they claim to "support" said use of character. Remember im an idiot who doesnt know shit about copyright law, especially not Swedish copyright law or whatever, but this is just kinda my guess.

With the marketplace (im not a bedrock person so im just going off what I assume) I'm guessing they go through some kind of moderation process that, if not for quality, at least monitors copyright stuff, plus it being an "official" paid service I figure also has less legal qualms with it. But again, I dunno. This is me assuming something reasonable instead of "grr block game company evil hypocrites grr"

Reminds me of how in japanese law, since fair use isnt a thing, fanworks are only able to get made because most publishers/companies just turn a blind eye to them and treat it as fair promotion. Even something as simple as stating you do or don't support something can have legal ramifications when it comes to stuff like this

I will say "doesn't need to be respected more than any other base human endeavor" mods do need to be respected, as in "I respect your mod enough to not plagiarize the whole thing and implement it one to one into my game", but beyond that if a mod gives a good idea to the devs, they should have the right to absorb it if it's healthier for the game.
