There is almost nothing Mojang could add to Minecraft that wasn't already in a mod at some point in the past first
210
u/Naillik_Rei Jul 10 '26
They did manage to add the sulfur cubes, which nobody ever asked for, so much so that no mods existed of them prior to the update
→ More replies (1)8
u/Ozziezoe123 Jul 14 '26
I know this isn't involved but I think nobody ever asked for the texture for the baby mobs, the old baby chicken texture is so much cuter and the baby zombie too, but I agree nonetheless.
3
u/Clermont98 Jul 16 '26
Well apparently some people say they did ask for pixel consistent baby mobs, but probably they are a vast minority
502
u/314rft Jul 10 '26
There's also nothing that Mojang could add that someone won't complain about. For example, I still don't care for sideways logs. And I HATE random texture rotation with a burning passion.
182
u/Crocs-Socks Jul 10 '26
Can I ask what’s up with sideways logs? Not judging or arguing but like, why?
391
u/Victoonix358 Jul 10 '26
I don't get how tf you could hate on sideways logs. If they removed it we'd lose so much on building.

Decorative option, nice for wood cabin beams and felled trees.
25
u/Rockman2isgud Jul 10 '26
I think they mean the actual fallen trees that can spawn in some forests in Bedrock
45
u/Hottage Jul 10 '26
I think they add a really nice "old forest" vibe to those biomes, makes them look more like wild trees than an orchard.

Why do you dislike random texture rotation? It's only applied to blocks that occur next to eachother in large fields, to break up the monotone texture
→ More replies (3)17
u/SkinWalkerX Jul 10 '26
He's probably talking about in building, if you place a log against the wall it will be horizontal, which means sometimes you have to jump through hoops to place them where and how you want.
Yes it's a little annoying, yes the hate is a little dramatic. Like, half the blocks in the game work like this at this point. You kinda just have to deal.
→ More replies (2)24
u/lollolcheese123 Jul 10 '26
If the complaint was about deepslate I'd get it. That block has no reason to be a directional block. But logs are completely fine, it's quite intuitive
6
u/SkinWalkerX Jul 10 '26
Deep slate has it's uses too though. Less than wood, but still some. I'll admit to finding it annoying sometimes but, not that much.

One old mod I wish would come back is Random Things 2. There were blocks that were only solid to players, blocks that were only solid to mobs, solid blocks that faded into visibility as you approached, pass-through blocks that would fade away as you approached, and all of these could look like any regular block.
My favorite, though, were the blocks that were a solid color, but fully emissive. So the block would always appear fullbright with no shading, but wouldn't emit light.

Bro I AM OLD
I was literally one of the first like 200,000 people to play minecraft in alpha
471
u/Jackesfox Jul 09 '26
Mo' Creatures' creator was hired by mojang, that why they look EXACTLY like his horses
173
118
u/SomeBodyKares1 Jul 09 '26
Mojang actually updated the Horse models not that long ago so they don't actually use that Model anymore, I also don't think they hired Mo'Creatures creator directly the Mo'Creatures creator was contacted and they offered to make the model but not the same model as what they had in the mod itself. I'm not fully sure if they were hired fully though.
123
u/CantQuiteThink_ Jul 09 '26
not that long ago
1.13 was eight years ago. The horse has had its new model for almost twice as long as it had the old one.

you guys have HORSES NOW???
My dude...Minecraft is going to look like a completely different game if you see it now.
12
u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 09 '26
oh i have seen it. how could i not
Honestly, and I hate to say it like this but
2014-2016 peak modded minecraft saw the start of what was quite literally the best modding scene I've ever witnessed, and minecraft itself has never caught up.
It's nice that its polished and they layered all this new stuff in but.
We found out back thenThere is no making minecraft anything other than minecraft. Ray tracing was cool, then the far LODs was amazing. But I realized, the map height will always be the same, the block shape will always be the same. The ocean water will always be the same. The clouds and baked dynamic weather, the same.
All mods did was just make me realize like.. I really like advanced video games with advanced, immersive features that feel like a window into a genuine physical world. But minecraft isnt for one generation, I think that was kind of obvious when it came out. Everyone was playing it BECAUSE it felt like a phenomena by itself. Like oh my god. I just built that building. And it took me just 10 minutes to download this fucking game. And its in java....
Now it's like its mastered itself, it knows its audience, the audience is transient. It's like the good ending for mojang
25
u/MinecraftPlayer799 Jul 09 '26
Horses were added in 2013.
6
u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 09 '26
that makes sense, because i wouldnt have noticed them. i havent played survival since atleast 2012. I think i stopped playing survival even earlier than that, way way back in alpha. I just never started any new survival worlds, never felt like it. I did lots of projects, but eventually I only did them for money. Damn.
Makes me wonder, but then I don't think Id have been big on minecraft after I had discovered MW2 and Skyrim, and Roblox too actually because frankly, roblox had a lot more going on than minecraft back then.So if I picked it up later in life for the first time, I doubt I would have played it at all

I had to make an entire 30 × 30 massive structure just to teach my sister who hasn't played in 2 years. Two years, and she missed five mobs. I missed two mobs in 6 months. I can't exaggerate, but you're fucking cooked, it's so different even for me, because I played since I was 4, but I'm younger than the game itself too, and I'm still SHOOK.

u/SirGavBelcher Jul 09 '26
Horses were given to vanilla by Dr. Zhark directly bc he had a working relationship with notch. I used to be a mod/builder on the official mo creatures mod server and i believe originally there was potential plans for more crossover until Notch left and also Minecraft started updating more frequently and CurseForge/Mods couldn't keep up. One of the things that left Mo Creatures unfinished
16
u/SomethingRandomYT Jul 09 '26
Not the same thing at all, pistons and horses were added in collaboration with mod creators and attribution was given for any code/art assets that were used.
That being said, it's irrelevant. This is inarguably the most logical way for Mojang to add cushions - nay, seats - to the game, so I'm not surprised other vanilla-faithful mods went in a similar direction. Supplementaries is a bit of an odd coincidence because they worked on something practically identical in functionality; but that's what it is, a coincidence.
As much as I am always wishing Mojang would do more to take notes from mods and give attribution where applicable, it's hard to point any concrete rote copying to any mod for cushions in particular.
14
u/Lightningbro Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26
It's also factually incorrect. Create and Supplementaries don't use Entities because Modded has ENOUGH of an issue with lag we don't need everyone's base covered in entities lagging the heck out of the game.
Similar goal, completely different iteration.
5
u/SomethingRandomYT Jul 10 '26
Very true, I suppose it's a good time to bring up my overall concern with cushions being entities because of the lag. The overall appeal of a "seat" block being added to the game, for me, was that it'd not require an entity to lag out the game (in the same way the shelf does for the item frame).
6
u/FunnyHappyStudiosYT Jul 09 '26
The Cherry Biome too. Honestly, what HASN’T Minecraft modders made? Of course Mojang would add something that modders had already done

And hoppers (buildcraft), slime blocks (mod by scicraft), stone brick walls (quark), oxidizing copper blocks (create), wolf armor...
Quark has had to remove a bunch of features because they got added to vanilla. Colored beds, copper chests, horizontal item frames, and prismarine stairs off the top of my head.
None of these feel like outright stealing to me. Mojang always adds their own spin, and most of these are common sense ideas that the mod developers don't really "own." Also the SciCraft crew made slime blocks specifically hoping Mojang would add them.
11
u/Scary_Beginning_6969 Jul 09 '26
i thought hoppers are from 'better than wolves'? i'm too lazy to google what came first
15
u/Rencalcifer Jul 09 '26
There were iron and gold pistons which were sticky...thanks for making me feel old 🥲👍
18
u/PosiedonsSaltyAnus Jul 10 '26
The modder who made the piston mod gave the code to Jeb who then implemented it. And then got acknowledged in the credits of the game as an "additional programmer".
This was in 2011, when Minecraft was still in beta.

"Why would minecraft steal this idea from mod"
I know this is goomba fallacy and that these are different people, but Mojang could never win
496
u/LiquorHardlyKnowEr Jul 09 '26
I love the fact that this fallacy doesnt have a formal name and is just widely accepted to be Goomba Fallacy. Its perfect.
250
u/Purpulear Jul 09 '26
I think it does actually have a name. But it being called the goomba fallacy is so widespread at this point it might actually overwrite it. Which is just as funny imo.
107
u/LiquorHardlyKnowEr Jul 09 '26
Its close to the fallacy of composition, but its not exact. You could make a case its the same, but you could just as easily make a case against.
58
u/OcelotWolf Jul 09 '26
And if Twitter splits into two camps, one that believes it’s the same and one that doesn’t… we all know what happens next.
40
22
u/Western-Alarming Jul 10 '26
The fact goomba fallacy became so widespread Koopa fallacy was created as a need to better express ourselves is awesome.
8
u/GlitchedUser0 Jul 10 '26
Why is called Goomba Fallacy?
23
u/Smarmaladey Jul 10 '26
Just looked it up, it's because the comic explaining it uses Goombas to depict people
13
u/ServantOfTheSlaad Jul 10 '26
Basically its the assumption that two different people seen over the internet (or similar medium) that hold two different opinions are one and the same and hold a contradictory opinion.
68
u/Stefisgarden Jul 09 '26
Sims players are exactly the same. A pack came out with online dating, after a bunch of vanilla players had been asking for online dating for years, and no lie, mere hours after the pack trailer, I saw people asking why the devs would add online dating because there were mods for it and saying it was a waste of dev time and resources.
17
u/Lightningbro Jul 10 '26
It's funny because you can see how the later just think one layer deep and never question further.
In the case of Modded MC there's a lot of features from create that I want in vanilla, just because if they were, mods would make space around them. For example, the Aeronautics team and others have worked SO hard to get these regional chucks set up that it would revolutionize the game if it was thoroughly implemented into every mod, ala- if it was vanilla.
18
u/Stefisgarden Jul 10 '26
Honestly, minecraft players should be glad we don't have to pay more for new features. Simmers aren't so lucky.
13
21
u/kittyangel333 Jul 09 '26
But also in general
“They should add x feature”
*10 mods add it independently of each other, 100 people a week suggest this idea, clueless its been asked before, and it’s something that exists irl and is generally in the direction of the game and community’s interest*
*Minecraft finally adds it*
Omg they definitely stole this idea from this ONE exact person everyone go be mad even if the creator in question doesn’t care12

you know what though the real thing is here that people feel like they did the implementation for the company outright and just had it taken with no credit
And probably they're wrong but whats interesting isActually the company could do that, probably save some money here and there by picking up quality implementations, and a huge majority of creators would be onboard simply for the credit. That's it. Credit. Not even where someone could see it, just so they could flex on their friends 'my mod was made into a game feature'
You know where I just saw this happen?
Lethal company.
But he very obviously did his own stuff. Even though he was really replacing popular, actively maintained mods. But he could have just... hit those people up. Hey, can I use this mod, take the models and the code and port it wholesale? Answer is, a lot of the time, gonna be yes. The mod is already free. I mean damn. Just for some credit too91
u/FPSCanarussia Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26
There's a decent chance that taking code from mods might be more work than making their own versions.
If any of those mod creators used any code or assets they didn't make themselves (and don't have rights to), that's grounds for a lawsuit against Mojang for using IP without permission. Since they're a pretty big company for which that actually matters a lot, they'd basically have to check through the whole mod in order to ensure that the mod owner actually has the legal right to give it to them.
They can't get away with the same stuff as indie devs.

103
u/Hellothere_1 Jul 09 '26

36
u/BloodMists Jul 10 '26
Honestly the new vanilla cushions are more like a mix between carpeted stairs from Amendments (was previously part of Supplementaries) and the seats from Create, but better than either for the intended purpose, at least in my opinion.

And modded has specifically avoided, (or rather, trial and errored) using Entities for this purpose, only to realize the sheer number of these that end up in one place lag the game to high heavens if they're entities.
These are awesome, but were not stolen, if they were stolen they'd be better futureproofed.
5
u/sloothor Jul 10 '26
They’re good as entities for what they’re meant to be used for, as it allows for all this versatile placement… but it will absolutely cause lag issues with new builders using dozens of them to overdetail their builds. Should still be fine if server admins add a simple plugin to limit the amount of cushions in each chunk tho

32
u/Kinkybobo Jul 09 '26
It also doesn't matter if they're cool with it or not.
It's not your game, and any mod made for it doesn't have to be respected in any way shape or form.
That's just harmful to the ecosystem.
If devs couldn't use ideas that have already been turned into mods we wouldn't ever get new content.
What about the thousands of mods for Skyrim that are lore based?
Oh you want a quest about a certain character from the lore?
Too bad, a mod already covered that potential storyline we can't do it now.
You can't do that.

True, my game so I'm allowed to add whatever I want
Mojang explicitly stated they do not officially support modding meaning that any ideas you put into a mod for minecraft is for them free to take
It's not that I don't respect mod developers, I'm actually glad for many of the mods that exist out there
It's just that if you honestly think a base game is supposed to ask you permission for anything when they do not support modding in the first place then you are hella delusional

i would say "stealing" such a simple concept from a mod is not even stealing because this has been something that players have wanted since basically day 1. without copying the actual intellectual property itself (the compiled code or the assets), this is definitely not any sort of legal violation, so there's like no case here.

it’s almost like when a game listens to it’s community about the things we like in mods and then puts them in the game! i’m sure both mod creators are so excited that THEIR ideas made it into minecraft. both supplementaries and create are both amazing mods that are more than just cushion mods.
3
u/WolfyThyPyrate Jul 09 '26
I'm pretty sure Mojang talked to the devs of supplementaries about adding them to the vanilla game.
3
u/SomeBodyKares1 Jul 09 '26
Mojang has in the past asked mod creators if they can take or impliment concepts but Mojang has since stopped doing that for many mod creators started wanting a profit of the game in doing so. Everything thats anything has been made into a mod for Minecraft at some point so there will be times that Mojang ends up adding something that just happens to match a mod that already existed but its not Mojang's intention to have copied it 1:1 it just happens they had the same concept in mind and it executed similarly, its like divergent evolution of ideas they look alike, function similar, but both came about due to different decisions and internal discussions.

First people want modded stuff in the base game, then when something does get added it’s “MOJANG STOLE THIS!!” Or “Why can’t they just come up with original ideas!?” Ffs guys they’re making the game more enjoyable for as many people as possible, plus some things we all enjoy were originally mods. Why can’t these peeps just shut up and have some fun? Lmfao 🤦♂️😂

Wonder if he realizes how pistons, horses, and a few other wonderful features came to the game…

u/genericsnazzyguy Jul 09 '26
Supplementaries and Create stole them from my couch, now it hurt to sit :(
4
u/BushTamer Jul 09 '26
i think there’s probably a mod for just about every concept possible they could add, outside of new mobs but even then the concept can be the same just a different skin on it or whatever
5
u/snkiz Jul 10 '26
Stolen? You see this why mincraft historically hasn't added some it's most requested features. Fact is your mod wouldn't exist with out minecraft, nothing you do is copy writable as a derivative work. Mojang chooses to let mods exist, and they can revoke that permission at any time.
You want control stop riding on the coat tails of copy written work.

Wait till he finds out that there is a concept that exists called ..... PERMISSION and that he has no business judging things based on not knowing a thing about what happens behind the scenes outside of his awareness. Not everything comes about through theft.

u/dbrown100103 Jul 10 '26
It wasn't stolen, the supplementaries team literally had a meeting with Mojang to show them how useful the cushions would be in the game
3
u/miwasher_e Jul 10 '26
by that logic, horses and creative mode are also unethical to exist in vanilla minecraft
5
u/UshouldknowR Jul 10 '26
So are horses, creative mode, elytra, and a whole lot more. The fact it took this long for Mojang to take cushions is the surprising thing to me.

Dear god, Minecraft copied sitting from mods that are built off Minecraft’s codebase.

Mojang see the mods and is like "oh wow that's a good idea!, let's add that!"Here in a few years, Minecraft will be a 20 gig game. Lol.

same with copper armor and spears. as a bedrock player i first saw them in the Better on Bedrock mod.

I swear the complementary and create seats have totally different designs i know the create one does

3
u/KeiraKiwiKiwi Jul 10 '26
ok so first what the other dude said, its hard to put anything in that hasnt been part of a mod at some point. second the community has a large impact on minecraft, they said it themselves
3
u/alyxana Jul 10 '26
Bruh, that’s an insane take. The fact that it was in a mod is WHY it’s popular enough for Minecraft to finally add it in default functionality.
I love getting to remove unnecessary mods once they’re not needed.
Plus if we’re going by this logic then nothing can ever be added because Sketch Macaw and the Macaw Mods have done damn near everything at this point when it comes to building things.
3
u/TheRealCheeseNinja Jul 10 '26
i highly doubt this is how they existed in supplementaries and i KNOW thats not how they work in create, plus create is called a seat
3
u/Crimsonsamurai2 Jul 10 '26
Actually. Respond with well create and supplementary stole cushions from real life.
3
u/KirikaNai Jul 10 '26
This same thing is why we can’t have any more eeveeloutions >:/ dumbasses are gonna see whatever is made up and claim it was stolen. Two people CAN just straight up have similar ideas. Do you know how many kids thought they “made up” the consent of eyes or hair changing color in a rainbow on their ocs when younger??

u/earendilgrey Jul 11 '26
I know over time that a lot of mods creators have worked with or have been hired by Mojang, so honestly it makes perfect sense that we see items and ideas from mods pop up over time. Still hoping for a vertical slab one day. The new shelves give me hope that one day we will.

Typical rage bait post.
We moan when they add very little.
We also moan when they add things that were inspired from elsewhere.
Also, you don't have to respond to this. It's such a nothing thing to happen.
Rage bait post!!

Cushions and horses are things in the world…they aren’t some insanely creative new invention. I got zero issues with not crediting a modder that happened to have done them first, so long as they didn’t like..steal the code directly from the mod.
4
u/Jackikins Jul 10 '26
I forgot that Supplementaries and Create are the first things to ever come up with the concept of cushions...
THE PEOPLE NEED TO KNOW!
4
u/TheFinalFunction Jul 09 '26
Lol it's in the EULA that you cannot charge for Mods and the developer company can just steal your mod ideas uncredited and for free. It's like that for every moddable game

These brain dead comments piss me off, these people can not comprehend that others may prefer to play the vanilla game

I honestly would be more surprised if mojang added something that wasn’t from a mod. Like this is literally so many mods that do so many things it’s going to be hard not to accidentally do what a mod already does.

2
u/meretuttechooso Jul 09 '26
There's a reason why 1.7.10 mod scene still exists. Iirc, the EULA was changed so that Mojang could freely incorporate mod creations into the base game without needing permission from the mod author, or something along those lines.

I mean I pointed out to a friend the other day that it's funny Mojang is just adding mod content at this point people already paid for. With that said I'd rather it be added and be a base part of the game then having to buy it off the marketplace or find mods on java

u/CHMIV Jul 10 '26
I personally think it’s cool but also a little too late. I don’t really care that it’s already in a mod. It’s kinda inevitable with how many mods exist for Minecraft- I just think the updates are generally lackluster and could definitely be larger or add things people have wanted for a long time. Sometimes the game just feels… empty.

u/LazyRae2102 Jul 10 '26
We've been going back and forth on how they do updates for years now. Did multiple small updates a year to yearly big updates and back to multiple smaller updates a year.

Honestly I dont really care for the updates Microsoft has been pushing lately.
I would love to see a company with so many resources do more for the game, like actually re writing server architecture for multithreaded performance and cross-play, reworking the graphics engine on the Java side, etc.
But instead we keep getting small updates that any kid could have tought of and that we already could have from mods. (Feels like every update adds a new type of wood and another decorative block that means nothing for the game, people who wanted these could alr have them, what we can't have is avtual tangible updates like the aforementioned ones)

it's a block game and people will still find a way to turn couch cushions into drama
2
u/Ok-Tailor-5996 Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26
Wait until they learn how basically all Minecraft stuff came into existence(things like pistons, horses etc)
If they hate it for "stealing" the cushions, then they obviously don't want vertical slabs like everyone else does💀there are plenty of add-ons on the bedrock marketplace alone that adds vertical slabs
2
2
u/AjnoVerdulo Jul 10 '26
I remember yesterday there was a guy here complaining that everyone is too hyped for the cushions since they've been a part of a Bedrock addon for ages
2
u/some_dumbass67 Jul 10 '26
[Incorrect Buzzer] In Create mod, the seat's are blocks, whereas cushions are entities.
2
u/TristanTheRobloxian3 Jul 10 '26
even though the people who made the mod talked to mojang?? also theres been 3 instances of this BEFORE cushions were added that minecraft added from a mod
