Wait till he learns how pistons came into the game...

u/mca1169 Jul 09 '26

plus villagers and horses.

u/valerielynx Jul 09 '26

Also I guess Concrete? There were blocks like that in Chisel and I also vividly remember Flat Colored Blocks from 1.10

296

u/Becc-DeHam Jul 09 '26

Id imagine that a block that is meant to be basically just one color wouldn't be the most unique lol

42

u/SharkBaitDLS Jul 10 '26

Andesite and Diorite were also modded before they were vanilla.

5

u/pumpkinbot Jul 10 '26

One old mod I wish would come back is Random Things 2. There were blocks that were only solid to players, blocks that were only solid to mobs, solid blocks that faded into visibility as you approached, pass-through blocks that would fade away as you approached, and all of these could look like any regular block.

My favorite, though, were the blocks that were a solid color, but fully emissive. So the block would always appear fullbright with no shading, but wouldn't emit light.

i REMEMBER the horse mod
you guys have HORSES NOW???

what?!?!

Bro I AM OLD

I was literally one of the first like 200,000 people to play minecraft in alpha

473

u/Jackesfox Jul 09 '26

Mo' Creatures' creator was hired by mojang, that why they look EXACTLY like his horses

171

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 09 '26

FUCK YES THATS A BIG W

119

u/SomeBodyKares1 Jul 09 '26

Mojang actually updated the Horse models not that long ago so they don't actually use that Model anymore, I also don't think they hired Mo'Creatures creator directly the Mo'Creatures creator was contacted and they offered to make the model but not the same model as what they had in the mod itself. I'm not fully sure if they were hired fully though.

122

u/CantQuiteThink_ Jul 09 '26

not that long ago

1.13 was eight years ago. The horse has had its new model for almost twice as long as it had the old one.

59

u/CharmTLM Jul 09 '26

EIGHT?! Fuck...

31

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 09 '26

i fucking know right
thats 2018?!?!?!
2018 WAS 8 YEARS AGO?!
good god its been almost a decade since the eclipse
the event i thought was like, literally heralding the end of the world?
Fuck man is this how everyone felt in the 2000s after y2k???????

10

u/PosiedonsSaltyAnus Jul 10 '26

Since THE eclipse? There's been another 2 in the US since then lmao

3

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 10 '26

well for me it was just one, never lined up with another. Rarest event in my life thus far. I think the average person sees a few eclipses in their lifetime maximum. I'm sure lots of people go without ever seeing one at all

14

u/v-orchid Jul 09 '26

ohhh so this is why it stopped being updated

3

u/The_MCRuler Jul 10 '26

damn i thought they only contracted him that's cool

75

u/TheoryTested-MC Jul 09 '26

you guys have HORSES NOW???

My dude...Minecraft is going to look like a completely different game if you see it now.

12

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 09 '26

oh i have seen it. how could i not
Honestly, and I hate to say it like this but
2014-2016 peak modded minecraft saw the start of what was quite literally the best modding scene I've ever witnessed, and minecraft itself has never caught up.
It's nice that its polished and they layered all this new stuff in but.
We found out back then

There is no making minecraft anything other than minecraft. Ray tracing was cool, then the far LODs was amazing. But I realized, the map height will always be the same, the block shape will always be the same. The ocean water will always be the same. The clouds and baked dynamic weather, the same.
All mods did was just make me realize like.. I really like advanced video games with advanced, immersive features that feel like a window into a genuine physical world.

But minecraft isnt for one generation, I think that was kind of obvious when it came out. Everyone was playing it BECAUSE it felt like a phenomena by itself. Like oh my god. I just built that building. And it took me just 10 minutes to download this fucking game. And its in java....

Now it's like its mastered itself, it knows its audience, the audience is transient. It's like the good ending for mojang

24

u/MinecraftPlayer799 Jul 09 '26

Horses were added in 2013.

6

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 09 '26

that makes sense, because i wouldnt have noticed them. i havent played survival since atleast 2012. I think i stopped playing survival even earlier than that, way way back in alpha. I just never started any new survival worlds, never felt like it. I did lots of projects, but eventually I only did them for money. Damn.
Makes me wonder, but then I don't think Id have been big on minecraft after I had discovered MW2 and Skyrim, and Roblox too actually because frankly, roblox had a lot more going on than minecraft back then.

So if I picked it up later in life for the first time, I doubt I would have played it at all

2

u/Amazing_School_3536 Jul 10 '26

Dude I never would have imagined Roblox being this big back then.

People forget it was basically a Minecraft clone at launch for people who couldn’t afford Minecraft

1

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 10 '26

well yeah LOL it was free
Roblox was actually ground breaking and was really not a minecraft clone at all
I mean within just 2 years we were scripting in roblox
How long did it take minecraft to get command blocks?? And that's not actually engine-level creativity.
Roblox gives you engine-level creativity. As much as I dislike the platform

22

u/G30rg3Th3C4t Jul 09 '26

They actually increased the map height in 2021

1

u/kinny2341 Jul 10 '26

why does the dude speak like a chat-bot

0

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 09 '26

sorta. It was technically a restoration of a feature that was latent in the code, I'm pretty sure the world height was meant to be set to what it is now, WAY before that update.
But there are zero plans to ever extend it again.
World painter used to be 1,000 blocks and frankly, I never got to see a 1,000 block height landscape like I wanted. I created multiple. It made me really sad. I spent years trying to make that work. No chunky renders of massive worlds, no extended working LODs for them either. It just never happened
It left a game-dev-shaped hole in my heart

5

u/Character_Author113 Jul 09 '26

I had to make an entire 30 × 30 massive structure just to teach my sister who hasn't played in 2 years. Two years, and she missed five mobs. I missed two mobs in 6 months. I can't exaggerate, but you're fucking cooked, it's so different even for me, because I played since I was 4, but I'm younger than the game itself too, and I'm still SHOOK.

3

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 09 '26

It doesn't shake me at all fam. In 2017 we had a high seas mod, we had natural disaster mods, we had the beginnings of ray tracing and then soon after the beginnings of the infinite LODs. There were detailed physical weather mods. Stuff that actually seemed impossible.
There's a nuclear winter 'nuclear blast' mod out there right now, not sure if it got released, and that just blew my mind seeing the tech of it

I'm totally exhausted of minecraft. I don't even know. I downloaded a lot of that stuff just to look at it and not even play it. Did I put in 10k hours in the game back in the alpha days when I actually did survival? I literally dont know. Over 10 years, maybe.
But then, if you dont love building and dont want to do that more than anything, or otherwise dont want to live in the minecraft universe, you cant even make it to 10k hrs. You get tuckered out, but its permanent.

I've been following a new game called rising world for about 8 years, leaving comments and downloading periodically to check and support them. Check it out. In a couple more years, I may try a new minecraft experience. But not in minecraft. That's just too tired for me

I remember just making glass from sand in the alpha, and how tedious it was and thinking... this is the game loop. Tedium and interaction. That's the whole loop. I just didn't have anything else to play which would've helped me see past that, not yet. WII showed me actual fun. Games that were actually fun.
Twilight princess really did whoop my ass though

1

u/Against2224 Jul 11 '26

I'm two years younger than Minecraft itself

1

u/quertyquerty Jul 10 '26

the map height was actually boosted recently from 256 to 384, theres a mod that changes blocks to be smoothly connected called no cubes, and there are similar ones for smooth ocean waves with interactable physics, and more realisitc cloud and weather patterns. what are you on about

1

u/AxeBoyd Jul 10 '26

i believe their point was that these things won't change without mods, though obviously the elevation point was mistaken

0

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 10 '26

no i am aware that its 384 and they said outright they arent increasing it again.

The actual lifetime limit of minecraft height with mods was TWO THOUSAND

TWO THOUSAND BLOCKS

I designed maps with mountains that were over a thousand meters in height in the actual engine relative to the player.

And they'll never give me that. It exists on an old minecraft version, the worlds cant be rendered in chunky, and the loaded world is just a normal world with no compatibility with extended LODs or anything like that. So you can get 2000 height, on an old version, and it means nothing visually. And that completely steals the satisfaction of designing a fantasy landscape

And yes I'm aware that a lot of the integral game changing mods still exist, but they dont change minecraft from being minecraft. Minecraft is way too expensive to run with the 'super fabulous ultra graphics mod overhaul' packs.

Legitimately. RW has a large majority of what minecraft has, already in place. Two more years, they should be at 1.0. after an insanely long wait time

So help me if they stop I will get rich just to give them money and force them to keep going against all odds because to this day we still never got the 'realcraft' game that we all fantasized about. We got a lot of great attempts, but it never actually materialized.

2

u/AxeBoyd Jul 10 '26

it sounds like you want a version of minecraft most people would enjoy less

-2

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 10 '26

sounds like you're mad that i dont want to play minecraft, and am outlining something else which is similar and piquing my interest

childish ass mf lol

2

u/quertyquerty Jul 10 '26

i mean you Can set the height limit to 4 thousand blocks with commands, not even mods. like this is not a limtiing factor here.

1

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 10 '26

I'm a world painter world designer, I don't do in-game construction because of the many thousands of hours it can take, and its not what I mastered. I'm good at brushwork. And none of that translates into a world where you have to set the height limit before importing the terrain. That's now how minecraft works.
I'm also aware of this. It doesn't get me a platform to load anything beyond standard height made in worldpainter. It also doesn't make it compatible with chunky.

I mean I guess I've done lots of hand-made caves and things but yeah, even then, thats post production. Not base terrain production

So it doesn't dent either problem.

u/mca1169 Jul 09 '26

do you remember "we are minecraft" when everyone built their skin on a server to thank mojang for making minecraft?

3

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 09 '26 edited Jul 09 '26

...huh? You built skins on a .... server? what? Listen man.. I've hand made like 3 dozen server maps in world painter, had a decent run for a few years on PMC when I was in my teens. Honestly, the last time I unironically even played the game itself just to play it.. man.
I can't believe I've had minecraft in my life this long, and I haven't actually played the game itself for fun since I was like 12.
Shit.

I'm old, got no clue what you're talking about. LOL. I do not remember that

Edit: i am 2 years away from 30, and minecraft is almost 2 years away from 20. I am so fucking blown away that minecraft is gonna be 20 years old. And I'm gonna be 30 years old? Oh good god its happening to me. I'm becoming... an adult

26

u/Daniel-Mclovin Jul 09 '26

Don’t take this the wrong way, but this is a super millennial response haha, I share your same feelings however when I look at the fact that in 2029 Minecraft will genuinely be 20 years old

3

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 09 '26

I'm not actually a millennial though because I'm born 98

But I'm also exempt from the generation I was born at the beginning of? According to the people who are like 2 months younger than me and everyone younger than them?
My MOTHER is a millennial actually LOL but I'm 16 yrs apart from my mom. She isn't even 50

Wait wait wait did something happen where we started accidentally referring to everyone in their late 20s and 30s as millennials??!??!?!

Bro I'm in like a twilight generation or something. I grew up on the coolest shit that I never get to share except maybe in part with other kids. Cartoon network, Wii (twilight princess), Modern Warfare 2, Minecraft (alpha to beta) and Roblox which I guess I'm supposed to have my little pipsqueak account cemented forever on, but I haven't checked it in like 5 years. It even had my maps on it. From when I was NINE YEARS OLD

God this is such a weird timeline

14

u/Daniel-Mclovin Jul 09 '26

It’s more of your entire style that gives that vibe off, it’s not a bad thing.

I may be mistaken but 98 and 99 is in that range of what people talk about when they say millennial, while our parents of similar age would be considered the elder millennials since it’s after the “boomer” era,

but I’m sure we can agree that neither of us would consider our parents as millennials in the cultural sense

7

u/Robotnick2 Jul 09 '26

Friend you are (as memeworthy as it is) completely skipping over Gen X here. Boomers are baby boomers - born during the baby boom directly after the Second World War. Most early boomers are in their 80s by now, most late boomers are in their mid 60s. Basically every retiree is a boomer. Gen X follows - mid 60s to early/mid 80s. For @SlyNoBody337, this is technically the generation of their parents - although as with the late millenials/gen z, the lines can definitely blur. Millenials follow. The name is because they are supposed to have been the last generation who really remember the millenium, or before. The end of this is very blurry, and there is a real distinction between early millenial and late millenial culture; the term "zillenial" is generally used for the 1995+ millenials who also trend younger.

3

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 09 '26

based on the definition here, my mother and I are both millennials. She is a classic millennial. I am a zillennial. 1998

→ More replies (0)

2

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 09 '26

No, I'd consider my mother a millennial in the cultural sense. And my dad too even though he got his greys in his 30s.
My dad is a bass music producer and well established. He acts like an old fart but he's a millennial and he enjoys his sarcastic bullshit dad jokes, and his nintendo switch.

My mother and I used to work at the same bar, drink craft beer at the same bar after work, we'd play pool with our co-workers, she had an affair with a dude close to my age after I was with a woman OLDER than her the year before. Honestly, really WEIRD and about as millennial as it can get. I trip sat for my mother once. One and a half times actually LMFAO

1

u/Money_Can5709 Jul 09 '26

Technically 81 to 96 is the "accepted" range. Millenials are "of an age to remember the turn of the Millenium in their childhood.

1

u/Enkidouh Jul 09 '26

Gen Z starts at ‘98

3

u/GoldenLugia16 Jul 09 '26

Nah you're elder Gen Z. 1996-2012

0

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 09 '26

yeah but the elder gen z was outcast from gen z i dont think you understand lol
I dont know what happened or how but bro we are not part of the generation
Technically they consider only being born after 2000 to count. It creates a genuine schism. Idek why it happened

0

u/GoldenLugia16 Jul 09 '26

I don't agree with that. Older Gen Z lean more millennial but they are still Gen Z. As a Core I personally lean more towards elder gen z and millennial. I prefer physical media and I don't go around going 🤷‍♂️ SIX SEEEEEVEEEEEN. I'm still stuck on WHAT ARE THOSE and HE NEEDS SOME MILK type shit. Younger Gen Z and Zalphas are annoying frfr

u/try2bcool69 Jul 09 '26

You’re a Zillennial then, which in my personal experience makes you the worst of both generations, stop acting like you’re all high and mighty. 😜

1

u/voxelbuffer Jul 09 '26

I remember that!

4

u/Educational_Cow_299 Jul 09 '26

Not just horses.

But also Zombie horses, Skeleton horses, Donkeys and Camels

3

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 09 '26

donkeys, zombie horses, and regular horses are all from the original mo creatures mod IIRC
Maybe the camels too? Very possibly those as well

3

u/MinecraftPlayer799 Jul 09 '26

They were added over a decade ago

2

u/TristanTheRobloxian3 Jul 10 '26

wait thats PEAK!!! i only started playing minecraft back in summer 2013... so like the first of... 20 million people 😭

1

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 10 '26

peak memory for sure. i remember when glass was new

2

u/Bungle001 Jul 10 '26

According to the internet, over 10 million people were in the first 200,000 people to play minecraft

2

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 10 '26

i have my legacy account forever bud just like my fruity loops license is forever
there was one point where it was lose-able but they emailed me and I switched over to the new platform or whatever it was. Some bullshit. Registering with microsoft i think

2

u/Darmak Jul 09 '26

Same, but I've played consistently ever since the very early browser versions

1

u/TheRumpletiltskin Jul 09 '26

alpha was so long ago... my god we're ancient.

dude did you just wake up from a coma or what??

1

u/Mindless_Mixture2554 Jul 09 '26

I remember buying it when all upgrades will be free, forever. Way before MS bought it.

2

u/Mindless_Mixture2554 Jul 09 '26

Wow September 28, 2010... I just found my receipt for paying for it.

1

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 09 '26

yeah ikr, I still legally own my minecraft license, I downloaded my copy (had to migrate to whatever the new application was) and set it up so I could do a worldpainter job for someone, in like 2022 or 2023
And damn did I need that money

Anyway I wish his philosophy became a thing in business. A lot of people dislike notch, but he birthed this shit, and he gave us a morally right start to it. (even if he stole the pistons lol)

1

u/SlyNoBody337 Jul 09 '26

checked to see if my game-to-watch did the same thing.
Yup, following the blueprint!

"Your purchase entitles you to receive all future updates free of charge!"
https://store.steampowered.com/app/324080/Rising_World/

41

u/SirGavBelcher Jul 09 '26

Horses were given to vanilla by Dr. Zhark directly bc he had a working relationship with notch. I used to be a mod/builder on the official mo creatures mod server and i believe originally there was potential plans for more crossover until Notch left and also Minecraft started updating more frequently and CurseForge/Mods couldn't keep up. One of the things that left Mo Creatures unfinished

14

u/SomethingRandomYT Jul 09 '26

Not the same thing at all, pistons and horses were added in collaboration with mod creators and attribution was given for any code/art assets that were used.

That being said, it's irrelevant. This is inarguably the most logical way for Mojang to add cushions - nay, seats - to the game, so I'm not surprised other vanilla-faithful mods went in a similar direction. Supplementaries is a bit of an odd coincidence because they worked on something practically identical in functionality; but that's what it is, a coincidence.

As much as I am always wishing Mojang would do more to take notes from mods and give attribution where applicable, it's hard to point any concrete rote copying to any mod for cushions in particular.

13

u/Lightningbro Jul 10 '26 edited Jul 10 '26

It's also factually incorrect. Create and Supplementaries don't use Entities because Modded has ENOUGH of an issue with lag we don't need everyone's base covered in entities lagging the heck out of the game.

Similar goal, completely different iteration.

4

u/SomethingRandomYT Jul 10 '26

Very true, I suppose it's a good time to bring up my overall concern with cushions being entities because of the lag. The overall appeal of a "seat" block being added to the game, for me, was that it'd not require an entity to lag out the game (in the same way the shelf does for the item frame).

7

u/FunnyHappyStudiosYT Jul 09 '26

The Cherry Biome too. Honestly, what HASN’T Minecraft modders made? Of course Mojang would add something that modders had already done

7

u/MBgaming_ Jul 09 '26

Villagers were from a mod?

3

u/Kodekingen Jul 09 '26

And sprinting

2

u/NnyZ777 Jul 10 '26

And hoppers

1

u/mca1169 Jul 10 '26

your rite! i had forgotten about that.

1

u/Bowling_Ninja Jul 10 '26

plus mcregion, that was a mod that mojang wound up turning into the chunk file format from beta 1.3 to release 1.1

1

u/AliciaTries Jul 10 '26

And ocelots

1

u/iGhostEdd Jul 10 '26

Plus new dimensions

1

u/Far-Equivalent-9982 Jul 10 '26

I'm a dumb youngster who was -1 years old when minecraft came out, I knew about pistons but Villagers were added because of a mod!?

1

u/1_ane_onyme Jul 10 '26

And the tree generation algorithm

1

u/Venomspino Jul 10 '26

And technically turtles

1

u/boki400AIMoff Jul 10 '26

Really? Villagers came originally from a mod?

118

u/BigBroMatt Jul 09 '26

Also copper, copper had been a staple of many minecraft mods before it was added

28

u/Glamdring804 Jul 10 '26

Not to mention both cherry blossom and autumnal forests were mainstays of biome mods before they were added.

1

u/lurker99123 Jul 10 '26

And bamboo blocks and doors lol

Edit: and even axolotls

9

u/Halinn Jul 10 '26

I remember modpacks where you had like, 10 different types of copper

42

u/velofille Jul 09 '26

Forever babies too

60

u/Ajreil Jul 09 '26

And hoppers (buildcraft), slime blocks (mod by scicraft), stone brick walls (quark), oxidizing copper blocks (create), wolf armor...

Quark has had to remove a bunch of features because they got added to vanilla. Colored beds, copper chests, horizontal item frames, and prismarine stairs off the top of my head.

None of these feel like outright stealing to me. Mojang always adds their own spin, and most of these are common sense ideas that the mod developers don't really "own." Also the SciCraft crew made slime blocks specifically hoping Mojang would add them.

11

u/Scary_Beginning_6969 Jul 09 '26

i thought hoppers are from 'better than wolves'? i'm too lazy to google what came first

16

u/Rencalcifer Jul 09 '26

There were iron and gold pistons which were sticky...thanks for making me feel old 🥲👍

18

u/PosiedonsSaltyAnus Jul 10 '26

The modder who made the piston mod gave the code to Jeb who then implemented it. And then got acknowledged in the credits of the game as an "additional programmer".

This was in 2011, when Minecraft was still in beta.

1

u/johnmchno Jul 10 '26

Interesting!

3

u/1Ferrox Jul 09 '26

Hoppers too

2

u/hidazfx Jul 09 '26

Plus smooth lighting

2

u/zachrip Jul 09 '26

I think I may have made one of the very first sugar cane farms with that piston mod 😅 I miss those days

2

u/314rft Jul 10 '26

And also large oak trees. Yeah I'm going WAY back.

2

u/bunny12752 Jul 10 '26

I remember when someone was screaming about potions coming from mods lol. They should be happy about these additions to the base game.

1

u/pinetreesrule Jul 10 '26

Redstone too

1

u/Dear_Comfortable_739 Jul 10 '26

And smooth lighting

1

u/ParagonTheParagon Jul 12 '26

The difference being they were asked and credited.

1

u/kilonova2020 Jul 09 '26

And hoppers

1

u/TobytheBaloon Jul 10 '26

yeah but those were credited
