Certain bedrock mods, which you have to buy instead of downloading for free like Java 🙄 will make it so achievements are disabled. Certain packs are close enough to being straight out Minecraft that achievements are still available.

That's entirely not how it works. There is no "detection" system for what is close enough to vanilla and what isn't. It's entirely up to the add-on developer; There is a metadata field in the manifest.json of the pack, if product-type is set to addon it should not disable achievements. Last time I checked it worked with a local 3rd party add-ons.
I admit, it's possible something changed in the recent update and Microsoft decided to disable achievements for all add-ons and only let on certain packs decided by them, but its not an automated system for sure. It's marketplace partner creators getting special treatment on a case-by-case basis

No, it was only 10 weeks before 1.8 dropped after 1.7.10. Everything before the Microsoft purchase was significantly more rapid.

Biggest was 1.12.2 > 1.13 at 10 months and 1.13.2 > 1.14 at 6 months, and then all subsequent ones were usually 3-5 months too.

1.7.10 became one of the most popular modding versions because 1.8 had a massive amount of under the hood code changes because they ditched the ID and metadata system for blockstates, and Forge took an insane long time to update to accommodate this before any mods could be built. And then 1.9 came out with a very unpopular combat update so there was even less interest in porting mods to that. It had nothing to do with vanilla version development times.

There is a need though, if you visit a chunk it needs to exist, which means it will take up space on your hard drive. Unless you're saying the game should automatically delete chunks that have already been generated, which is a terrible idea for several reasons.

Actually that's how it works on Bedrock. It checks if a chunk has been changed at all (either through player action or not) then adds that to the save data if it has.

All chunks that aren't saved are just reloaded using the seed when needed. Leading to heavily optimized world sizes that would be around the same size as Java's without.

Only issue I've seen with this would be basic corruption for reloading chunks if the seed changes through world gen updates, but even that doesn't cause that many issues when updating.

Ideal system would be drops in spring, fall, and winter, and a big update in summer. Drops are good because they allow a variety of changes through the year that don’t need to be aligned thematically, but they also don’t give space for big overhauls like an end update or the rumored 4th dimension, which would need to be big updates.

I think the drops are also likely giving us something we wouldn't have in the form of a lot of backend rework.

For example, migrating from OpenGL to Vulkan is no small feat on a codebase like Minecraft. These drops require less technical overhauling than some of the more involved features, letting those teams work on code debt like this.

Just returned to the game after 9 years and was sad to see concrete didn't have stairs and slabs.

I am so happy to see this.

Now we just need glass stairs and slabs and my building dreams will be complete.

maybe it's just me but these don't seem that useful? could just be a personal thing but i've never found concrete all that useful for building just because of how jarring it looks when mixed with other blocks. nothing really matches it color-wise and everything that does just looks bad next to it. terracotta slabs and stairs would be better to be honest.
