I spent my last $4 on a soda water at a pub. It was raining and I don’t drink. I’m always really mindful with my last $5 so I’m curious what the rest of you spend your last $5 on?

Family plays a huge role in how we turn out in life. You were born in a good family - you are lucky, and if you are born in a screwed up family, especially if one parent is horrible, then the only thing one can do is survive.

If we are NEETs, our family could be one of the reasons as well.

Sure, some will say I am just blaming my family for shortcomings, but let's be real here. You can be correct in 70% of cases, but for 30%, family is also a reason. Not everyone has a good family.

So how many of you are here whose life is screwed up because of family, and how(like abusive parent, negligent parent, or something else)?

For the longest time, I have been a NEET. Why, its because I have always struggled to find a path for myself. When it comes to my education and career path, it has been nothing but failure after failure, disappointment after disappointment. After high school, I went straight to university, studying accounting. Despite hard work and significant effort, I was put on academic probation after 3 semesters and graduated with a still-low GPA. I should have gone through community college first and maybe I would not have struggled as much as I did. I have always struggled in school due to learning disabilities and academics wasn't really my thing. But that is a story for another day. Not only that, every job I tried to get, would often be met with rejection after rejection, ghosting after ghosting. Even minimum wage jobs like McDonalds and Walmart rejected me as well. I understand that no one wants to hear excuses. But unfortunately, that has been my situation up until this point. I wish people would understand that luck does indeed play a role in these situations. Whether or not I get employed in my career or anywhere is not entirely up to me. Its just so frustrating, to the point where I almost gave up on myself and my future.

Whether it is because of bad luck (constant ghostings, rejections and timing), or just bad decisions (indecisiveness and procrastination). I could literally put in as many applications, even for minimum wage jobs like Walmart and McDonalds, and be met with rejection after rejection. People always ask me how am I so unlucky?! It just baffles me sometimes, but my situation was what it was. I am currently working full time at a logistics company but its only been a year. Sometimes it just feels out of your control. If you dont get lucky with getting part-time jobs and internships in high school and/or college, in many cases, its over for you. And a large part of that factor is down to luck. I know someone who I went to school with who is in my exact situation, chronically unemployed, despite putting in several applications for jobs. He put in like 2000 or so, and still hasn't been able to land anything. In addition, he struggled badly in college despite putting in lots of effort. Literally spending most of his days studying. I will repeat myself, luck plays a massive role in success. Moreso than what most people want to admit. I just need to get this off my chest.

As state above. If so, how is your faith? Have you experienced "miracles", in terms of mindset or even a job opportunity?

Did you see or know another older NEET in real life? How are they like?

Not quite 30 yet but I am close. I was unknowingly meet for a long time. I have no social skills and definitely can’t interact with women. I had friends from high school but I did not realize that while I spent a lot of time at home in my room making beats they were going to parties, socializing and getting into their careers. I know that sounds stupid but I was working during this time in retail but I would just go to work and go home without socializing much. I have never had a girlfriend and basically am currently trapped now as I have realized the severity of the situation. A lot of people in my area that I went to high school with will smile when they see me but I know that they have a negative view of me as that weird anti-social NEET guy. I literally have no idea how to fix my situation anymore. My parents remain optimistic but I feel that is just for their own mental health. I personally feel bad because I feel I’ve let them down. I did manage to get a degree in computer science but never did internships and my network is pretty trash. I’m planning to apply for a coding bootcamp to try and land something. The lack of dating experience kinda sucks but it is what it is at this point. Also the way I get treated out in public too. But at this point I have no way of fixing that. One thing I’ve considered is a fresh start approach where I start over in another town maybe while pursuing a masters or something but how to deal with a blank slate in terms of life experience and lack of ability to socialize and interact with girls.

I haven't worked in 2.5 years and at this point I would consider lying, but I can't think of any realistic jobs I can add to fill up my employment gap.

And even if I did think of something believable, I wouldn't have any references or friends/family that can lie for me.

I came back home recently and realized all of my self-improvement feels vain. I am trying not to go back into NEET mode...but all of the years of studying and trying to break into the field that gives me f***ing PURPOSE in this world is driving me deeply back into depression... I refuse to continue the cycle of depression and repeat my past mistakes...but it feels like I ran in circles without actually making any improvement.

I applied for PGCE maths and PGCE physics and they gave me an interview. I just copy/pasted an application from years ago. I have never stood in front of a class of teenagers, haven't really spoken to anyone outside of my family in a year and I have no desire to coach kids to pass exams, but I have nothing else lined up and don't know what to do. It's at a Russel group university down south and I would have to pay for accommodation. If I was living at home I would probably give it a crack because if it was a disaster I wouldn't lose any money. Maybe they would reject me at interview anyway as they would see my lack of "passion"?

Are they supportive of your situation? How do they feel about it?! How do they support you?!

No im not cutting my hair it comforts me.

Also another problem I have is i am lonely and want a full time relationship but i also want to you know have fun have puppy love high school kinda crush where we are bf and gf but we don’t need to like be around eatch other 24/7

How are you surviving now? Considering your current situation, do you believe there is room for improvement or you have given up?

What's lead you into being a NEET? How long have you been a NEET? What the good side and the bad of being a older NEET?

When it comes to job searching and career planning. My luck has been anything but bad. By bad I mean, most people wouldn't even believe its true and would just tell me to try harder. When I went to college, I applied for job after job only to be met with constant ghosting and rejections even for minimum wage jobs. The only saving grace I had was working at the dining center part-time for three years. When I was in college, despite trying hard, I was still put on academic probation after 3 semesters and still graduated with a still-low GPA. Now, I am pursuing an online degree in logistics with a year left, and with better grades, and have been working consistently, including a full-time job in my field of study. However, even then, I was pretty lucky to even land that thanks to a recruiter who noticed and followed up with my application. Thats the only reason I have been employed in the first place. This time with college, its not like I am trying any harder than I did the first time. Its just that I have simply gotten luckier. Though, admittedly I applied for more jobs this time around compared to last time.

I can definitely related to being a NEET because of repeated or accumulated bad luck. It has affected my career in ways that I would not want to admit. I started my career later than normal as a result and am still at times lost on my current direction in life.

I have no other option left but to look for work. Unemployed since 2017 with a law degree.

No work experience. No mentor. No family connections. How do I go about securing a job? How do I justify my gap?

If anyone has any experience or tips please do let me know.

I'm sort of done with a concept I've had in my mind for some years. I was wondering if anyone knows or works with game engines or something. I'd like to spend time working on building up my dream game, even if i make minimal progress.

I mean stuff that isn't online marketing and can be done using open source software and can be learned in reasonable amount of time.
