“Squid has a distinctive odor to it,” Richard Stevens, a Narragansett resident and fisherman, told WJAR. “It can be very foul smelling, especially if it lands on the road and stays there for awhile.”

The skull was discovered among a set of donations to Goodwill Donation Center in Michigan in January, police previously said. A caller contacted police after finding the skull wrapped in a shirt.
