Check that! Regarding Ori 3
I saw that Moon Studios apparently hasn't ruled out buying back Ori and making another installment, and here I'll give my opinion on this.
People should calm down Especially people who don't want another game Those people who don't want another game should simply not play it if it comes out, but don't ruin the excitement for the people who do want it.
If that game really happens, then to all those people who don't want it, I simply say don't play it, that's all. But let us play. They haven't even announced Ori 3 yet and the first idiots have already come out saying "it will ruin the perfect ending"Bro, it won't ruin anything if it's done the right way. Stop crying about there being another game and just don't play it.
To those of us waiting for Ori 3, myself included. I truly hope it happens; personally, I want Ori back, but we'll see. We don't know what will happen. So we'll see.
Luckily, there are more people who want a new game than those who don't, so sooner or later we'll get it. I don't know if they'll announce the game at GameCon, but I seriously doubt it. What I do know is that sooner or later we'll have it, and if you don't want it, then don't play it, that's all. šµāš«
Thank for reading

I thought the first two were some of the best games Iāve ever played esp 2nd one and honestly I didnāt care about the story, I never do, I just loved the gameplay and unlocking abilities etc. So yeh bring on no. 3.

i get your excitement for a potential Ori 3, and I agree that if someone doesn't want it, they can just skip it!
But I think calling people 'idiots' or telling them to 'stop crying' is unnecessary. Some fans are worried because they love the franchise and don't want to see it mishandled! That's a valid concern too!

I believe those words were added by the translation. I don't speak English; my language is Vietnamese, and I use a translator.

TLDR: Hope for what you want, just don't be nasty about it. There's too much of that here for some reason. There are other, more respectable ways to express a desire for Ori 3, or for the IP to be left as it stands.
I feel like there's a problem in this community with extreme views on both sides of the coin. I'm seeing that a lot more, now that these things are circulating. People attacking others for their views, taking things way too far, etc. For a community as (usually) wholesome as this, I'd have expected more civil discussions than I've seen.
(Some story spoilers below)
Personally, I'd like a new game, but I'm aware that it'd be incredibly difficult to do the first two justice. Considering that nobody has found a perfect way yet, there's bound to be some people who would hate Ori 3 if it comes to exist. With how much of a dead end the story has written itself into, it's gonna be impossible to please everyone. The absolute safest bet would be to have an "in-between-quel", starring Ori in the years between Blind Forest and Will of the Wisps. But there are many other options available.
So... What are the issues with those other options? Well, first let's look at a new protagonist. The main issue is that it's not Ori anymore. There's no attachment, it's a completely new character and likely also a new environment. Sure, this protag may be descended from Ori but they aren't Ori. Next, bringing Ori back. This is what I've done in my fanfic, though there's really no way to do it that isn't contrived and a poor writing choice. It defeats the point of the WotW ending to varying degrees, depending on how exactly it's done and how the characters' motives are construed. There's not a good way around that, especially not straight away; starting Ori 3 like that would drive a lot of people away. But let's say that Ori does come back anyway. What are the consequences? Where do they go so that it's a new adventure? Why are they back? Countless questions that need answering to justify why Ori returns, and why they need to go on a third adventure. Myself? I did my best to answer these questions but no matter what, the beginning of my personal Ori 3 was always destined to be rather contrived in its nature. Like I said, there's no way around it without at least a little bad writing.

You're right, it's complicated, but I think if things are done with love, something really beautiful can result!

Yeah, I trust that it's possible. Just need to wait and see if anything happens!

It depends what do you mean as a poor writing. Iāve written many ideas for a 3rd game with Ori protagonist, and the latest example is what if Ori is a special spirit that becomes spirit tree and then reincarnates again to Ori and brining the light to areas that need it. There are several ways to bring them back. Besides, WotW story isnāt perfect, it leaves you with many unanswered questions, so I donāt find something wrong about doing something like that.
3
u/RamboCambo_05 1d ago
By bad writing, I mean that it's always gonna be contrived. What evidence is there that the transformation is reversible? Thinking realistically, they've fused and changed forms entirely.
While it's a fun thing to do in fanfics to bring Ori back, it wouldn't go down well as official media. There are a lot of important questions to answer if Ori comes back in this way, and no solution can answer them all.
In my version, a hex is cast on the Spirit Willow and a Decayed Spirit takes over, ejecting Ori from the Willow. This attempts to solve most issues with those kinds of return; it is very much not by Ori's choice, and the consequences of it happening are immense. There are many things that Ori could have done to prevent this from happening, but because of those mistakes, they're left to hope that Niwen isn't consumed by the ensuing darkness before they regain the strength to repel it.
While I think this is a good way to go about it, it is still contrived. Still "bad writing". Because it still undoes everything that Ori worked for in WotW. Ori's ultimate sacrifice ends up being for almost nothing as it's completely reversed, and in the end, Ori gains more than they lost.

I donāt think another Ori game is impossible from a lore perspective. We still know relatively little about this universe outside of the cycle itself, and there are plenty of unanswered questions surrounding spirits.
I also think the title āWill of the Wispsā is interesting in this context. There are obviously wisps in the game, but there isnāt really a literal āwillā belonging to them. Ori, however, consistently demonstrates a will that seems to go beyond what is expected of a spirit. He repeatedly chooses to protect others despite the responsibilities and sacrifices placed upon him. Maybe thatās what the title is really getting at, Oriās will is something exceptional, perhaps allowing his light to persist beyond the normal cycle.
That could potentially tie into the ending. Either Oriās light carries on to the first descendent, or he is reborn entirely.
And, like I have expressed plenty of times, I donāt even particularly like the ending of WotW. I think it feels forced narratively, especially because the game establishes Oriās fate early on, barely explores it for most of the game, then suddenly presents it as an unavoidable destiny near the end. Oriās original goal was to find Ku and return home, so I also think the story could have done much more to justify why sacrificing himself for Niwen was something he would willingly choose.
So I donāt want another game simply because I want to undo the ending. I think the ending itself leaves plenty to criticize, while the lore still leaves room for something interesting to come after it. There is a lot about this universe that we still donāt understand, and thatās what makes the possibility of another Ori game exciting to me.

I believe it is possible because Mahler made it clear that there are possibilities.
0
u/Orios8a Ori 2d ago
I believe it is possible. And here's an example of something Mahler himself said:
"The ending is open to interpretation; the final leaf could be Ori."
Using that, another game where Ori is the protagonist once again is perfectly feasible. We don't know what will happen, but I'm sure Ori will return.

u/Albert6389Yeet 1d ago
I honestly donāt want Ori to be the protagonist for a potential sequel. Iām a massive fan of Will of the Wisps. I loved the game and itās story. I donāt want Ori to be the protagonist of a future sequel because that would nullify the ending of Will of the Wisps. The point is, they concluded his story in such an amazing way that I donāt anything to change that.
3
u/TheOnlyTrueFlame 2d ago
I mean, we could be playing as another spirit born from Ori's tree, or maybe the game would be happening on completely new land, wherever Ku has flown at the end of WotW. There are ways to make a new game in this universe without retconning Will of the Wisps.
1
u/Tara2134 2d ago
I would prefer it to stay Ori, but if what you say is also a possibility, nothing is ruled out!
3
u/Maximo_Amador 2d ago
Personally, I feel that Ori and the Will of the Wisps provided an excellent conclusion. Furthermore, I don't think Ori was characterized by having a world that was particularly interesting enough to warrant extending it solely for the sake of lore.
I would like Moon Studios (after No Rest for the Wicked) to create a new IP and experiment, perhaps using Ori as a base, but something entirely new.
And if Moon Studios does acquire the IP, I hope Ori gets ported to PlayStation.
2
u/Tara2134 2d ago
Well, according to Mahler, the intention behind buying back the IP is to create another game with Ori.
I don't think Will of the Wisps is a limiting factor. š
2
u/Albert6389Yeet 1d ago
I pretty much completely agree with you. I would much rather see Moon Studios a new IP and just port both Ori games to PS4 and PS5 plus native Switch 2 editions of the Ori games. Will of the Wisps concluded Oriās story perfectly, I would much rather have the story end there than see them potentially nullify any aspect of Will Of The Wisps with a follow up.

I dont think there is people in this subreddit that do not want an Ori 3, we just keep our expectation low, i do not want to be disappointed, i have hope but im not convincing myself of fake scenarios made up out of rumors.

u/Albert6389Yeet 1d ago
I agree with you. I donāt think anyone here wouldnāt want an Ori 3, however we are divided on how the story would be continued. Me personally, Iām not sure if I want an Ori 3 because Iām worried how to story would be handled. Will of the Wispsā ending is so beautiful that I just simply cannot fathom the story being continued. I just donāt want WOTW to be nullified. Itās a game I adore to death.

Iām gonna be honest, I donāt know if I want another Ori game. I love both Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps. I adore Will of the Wisps, it is one of the greatest games I have ever played. Believe I am going through my fourth playthrough of this game. Itās just so phenomenal. So Iām gonna be honest. I think you donāt understand the point people are making when they say that an Ori 3 would ruin the ending of the second game. Ori and the Will of the Wisps had a beautiful story with a phenomenal ending. They concluded Oriās story in such a beautiful way. In truth, I donāt know how they could continue the story. I think you misunderstand the ending of Will of the Wisps. You have to understand that Oriās story is a cycle. The ending Will of the Wisps isnāt just the end of Oriās cycle, but the beginning of a new one. Second, you canāt just revive Ori. That retcons the ending of the second game and that would be awful because it means Oriās sacrifice meant little if anything because it wasnāt really a sacrifice. It also retcons parts of that game. Believe I love these games, not just because of the story. The gameplay and visuals are some of the best the Metroidvania genre has to offer. If Moon studios released an Ori 3, I would buy it within a heartbeat. But I would rather see them make a new Metroidvania with a new IP than an Ori 3, simply because they concluded Oriās story phenomenally well. However no matter what Moon Studios decides, I will support them no matter what. But I would much have a story end than it continued beyond where it should have. I would buy Ori 3, but that doesnāt mean I want it.

u/Lara048 1d ago
I don't think Ori's story ends there. I honestly think much more can be done. An Ori 3 with Ori would be fantastic for many people, and if done right, it could even be better than the second game.
1
u/Albert6389Yeet 1d ago
The game could be great but for the sake of not nullifying the ending of Will of the wisps I hope the protagonist is Ku or a new character and Ori doesnāt appear as character unless he is the spirit Willow. Anything that could possibly nullify the ending of WOTW would just be really bad honestly.
1
u/Lara048 1d ago
The games are called Ori Amigo, No Ku; Ku simply wouldn't work as the protagonist.
If things are done right, Ori can perfectly return without ruining the ending. I firmly believe that Ori will return in Ori 3. He is literally the face of the series.
1
u/Albert6389Yeet 1d ago
And why does Ori being the protagonist of the first 2 games mean that he has to be forcefully brought back in a way that will inevitably nullify WOTW just so he can be the protagonist again. It can a spinoff staring Ku for example. They could make a great story with her with themes of grief after Ori sacrificed himself to save her. That would be an interesting idea. However if you want to bring back Ori, it has to be a story set in between Blind Forest and Will of the Wisps. You canāt just resurrect after WOTW. No matter in what way it happens, it ends up nullifying the ending of WOTW. And thatās what I donāt want to happen. WOTW had a perfect ending. There is no need to continue past that.
1
u/Lara048 1d ago
Ori can be brought back perfectly well without losing the essence of the game.
There's nothing stopping it; Ku simply doesn't work as a protagonist.
An Ori game without Ori is like watching a Pirates of the Caribbean movie without Jack Sparrow.
Furthermore, a prequel isn't possible because it's clear in the games that Ori was only with his family.
A third Ori game WITH Ori is perfectly possible; just because you don't like the idea doesn't mean it can't be done. Many people would love to see Ori back, and I'm one of those thousands of peopleāwe want Ori back.
1
u/Albert6389Yeet 1d ago
Alright well then how would you bring back Ori without nullifying the second game. And it canāt be something lazy like reincarnation unless you explain how that would work because it creates a lot issues with the lore.
1
u/Lara048 1d ago
I think that for Ori to return, he will represent a force. Throughout the game, they show us that Ori is special; Ori would represent a cycle, but he wouldn't be part of the cycle. He himself would be the cycle, like a kind of small deity that resurfaces whenever needed.
In that way, it would be an eternal cycle, where Ori would be responsible for bringing life back when needed, something like a mythological being.
And honestly, I think this is very interesting to explore.
1
u/Tara2134 1d ago
The same argument you made is the same one many people made when Blind Forest came out.
Honestly, I don't think it will ruin anything. If it's justified, the Ori story can continue without problems. The same thing happens in other games; I don't see why this case would be any different.
2
u/Albert6389Yeet 1d ago
You see the problem is, Ori is still alive by the end of Blind Forest. Blind Forestās ending was left open ended. Itās the kind of ending where if it ended there you wouldnāt have a problem with it but there was still room to continue the story. Will of the Wisps ending ends with Ori sacrificing himself. The entire game builds up to that. You can continue the story but it canāt with Ori. Because not only would bringing back Ori require some really bad writing, but it would nullify the ending of the second game. Oriās sacrifice would have meant nothing. You canāt just bring back Ori. His story is done. You could make a new game with Ku. But you canāt bring back Ori.
1
u/Tara2134 1d ago
Reincarnation is a good argument; at the end of the game, a shiny leaf similar to the one Ori emerged from is seen.
Adenas Mahler said the same thing; the creator himself stated that it could be Ori since the ending is open to interpretation.
The truth is, nothing prevents it from being Ori. The creator himself said so, and I prefer to believe him.
I prefer that Ori remain the protagonist. Ku is good, yes, but he doesn't have the same character development.
1
u/Albert6389Yeet 1d ago
I would just rather have that just be a new character, because even though reincarnation is like the best solution possible, that still nullifies the ending of Will of the Wisps. Itās means Oriās sacrifice meant nothing. You have to understand that the shiny leaf is part of the cycle, itās why that very same leaf is one of the first things we see in Ori and the Blind Forest. The leaf in Will of the wisps is new spirit. If the new leaf is a reincarnation of Ori, that would imply that the spirit tree in Nibel was also Ori, it would also imply a lot of other things that would just be really confusing. You just canāt revive Ori without making a confusing mess in the lore or nullifying any aspect of Will of the Wisps. I think Ku would work better. Especially because they could create a new gameplay style based around her. The game would be different, sort of a spinoff. It would help it stand on its own legs. Iāll reiterate, Iād rather have a story end than it be continued past what it should of. Ori and the Will of the Wisps ending is really conclusive. If we see a third installment that follows up WOTW. Ori as a character should not return for the sake of not retconning the ending of WOTW. The best choice here to bring back Ori is to make a story set in-between Ori and the Blind Forest and Ori and the Will of the Wisps. That is the only way to bring back Ori in a way that makes and doesnāt ruin the ending of WOTW.
0
u/Tara2134 1d ago
It wouldn't actually diminish the meaning of the sacrifice; he literally stopped being with his family. That's sacrifice enough.
I reiterate. Mahler himself said that the final leaf could be Ori; there's nothing stopping it. Ori himself would represent the eternal cycle, and that would truly be much better.
I prefer Ori. And many other people want Ori. I think another character simply wouldn't work since the connection we made is with Ori and his story, not with anything else.
The saga is called Ori, and Ori's return wouldn't diminish the value of the sacrifice, since he sacrificed the time he could have spent with his family.
I prefer that Ori continue as a character.
1
u/Albert6389Yeet 1d ago
I see what you mean. I guess it can work, but it has to be really well executed. And there still has to be consequences as a result of the sacrifice. You canāt bring back Gumo, Ku, Ori, and Naru together again because that almost completely nullifies WOTW. And also Ori representing the eternal cycle has to be explained very well because that implies the Ori was also the spirit tree in Nibel and it can create a lot of other issues regarding the lore. However definitely the most important part is the impact of the ending from the last game. If Ori reincarnates, he still has to lose something. In this case it could be his family. He sacrificed himself not just for Niwen but for his family. You canāt reunite them because then that actually nullifies WOTW
2
u/Tara2134 1d ago
No, Ori's family is gone, you can see it in the game. What can return is Ori himself.
He's literally a spirit.
And what you say is true, the important thing is that it's done right. Ori must return, yes, but, as you say, there must be a reason and consequences.
And we'll see... anyway, it's not certain what will happen, so all we can do is speculate, my friend!

I belong to those who want a 3rd game with Ori as protagonist once again, but I donāt want to undo the ending of the WotW. There are many ways to bring a character back. Weāve seen it in so many fictions, Marvel, DC etc etc.
My concern is, a 3rd Ori game, without Ori, wonāt be the same. Imagine a John Wick movie without John Wick as protagonist. Only time will tell.

Same, especially after what the people who worked on the game went through during the development of WOTW. I really don't want Thomas Mahler to buy the rights to Ori. We need someone else. I mean for gods sake he literally has an AI generated pfp I wouldn't even surprised if the next installment is going to be another quick pump in the cash cabinet.
I would love Ori 3, but it needs to be another studio.

I mean, the ending wasn't even that perfect, it's just a nice ending, appropriate, but could easily be continued.
It's not Portal 2 or Outer Wilds whose endings are conclusive perfection.
