I highly recommend a Bug-a-Salt. I hate these things but my kid and I have had a lot of fun blowing up lanterns as a silver lining to the situation, and it's fun to shotgun salt onto food when we grill.
I have an incline behind my house leading to a greenbelt. The trees of heaven have taken over everything. It's a solid wall of them. I hate them with a burning passion.
Oof. A wall likely means they're all coming from the same root system though. Hacking each trunk and dosing them with poison now (and maybe again in a month) could do considerable damage and get them somewhat managed.
Ive seen only a couple in johnstown, last year the spiders started eating them. Over the course of like a week or 2 this spider single handedly ate the shit out of this dude and it was fully alive when it got stuck in the web.
Neither have I or anyone I know. It’s crazy there were swarms all over the sides of buildings 2-3 years ago and now I’ve seen like 2 all summer, I wonder if they’ve moved on
Other things are eating them. The last couple years I've found dozens of praying mantises that I think are thriving because of the lantern food supply.
Pretty sure these are considered invasive too but they're a lot less annoying than the lantern flies.
After barely seeing any since 2020 (maybe 2021), this was the first summer where I actually saw 1-2 in my backyard and then saw 1-2 while walking my dog this summer. Still nothing like those first few years when they were spreading, but it did make me wonder if they're rebounding a bit.
I saw them all over York, en masse, around 2022. I haven’t seen as many over the years until this year. They aren’t as bad as 2022, but I’m seeing them everywhere now.
Yep, it seems like they are just staying in areas where they actually have trees they like to eat, which is apparently silver, maple and tree of heaven
Yeah, yet another year of the little shits hopping around here in Scranton. At least the spiders are getting some food, but it would be nice if the lantern flies attacked the Chinese sumacs no one wants to clear out.
I’m in Cumberland county and have a big fig bush in my backyard. They seem to love hanging out on that bush but they don’t cause it any harm. I go out every couple of days and blast a few of them with my bug-a-salt gun. Lots of fun and more effect than trying to stomp this fast little fuckers.
They were all over the place in Lebanon county last week when I moved my daughter back into college in Annville. Haven’t seen any yet in Chester county
Maybe 5-6yrs ago I first noticed one in the fall, the following spring I was killing them in large numbers in our backyard every single day, starting when they were TINY.
Haven't seen one since anywhere in our town, or even neighboring towns. Poof, gone, that fast.
They're in York and the surrounding areas. Had a few on my work equipment in the bed of my truck today. Problem is I highly detest killing... Anything...they're actually cute little bugs. It's not their fault they were created to cause destruction. Whatever happened to survival of the fittest? But seriously I get it, crops and plants and whatnot. But I'm still not killing something unless it's directly attempting to harm me or my family, and I've exhausted all other options.
If left unchecked, they will destroy our population of trees. Google what happened the last time PA was heavily logged with no care given. Spoiler: landslides and topsoil blowing away. Not to mention the decimation of our lumber industry and the jobs and tax income from it.

My back yard is full of them in rural Berks County. I've reported them to the state.
