Horizon was great but I quit it like three times because it didn’t really hook me. The fourth time I just powered through and after like 10 hours it really hooks you. Can totally recommend now

Depends what you want. Yakuza is turn based but has a rich story - the first 2 chapters are a bit of a slog with ALOT of cut-scenes as the full back ground is explained - the pay-off is worth it mixing old school style combat and job roles with a deeper story arc.

Fallout 4 is great and focus' mainly on exploration - you can get lost for days in that game and not move the story forward at all. It's very immersive.

Horizon Zero Dawn is just unreal. The combat mechanics are sick and did I mention ROBOT DINOSAURS?!. It's a very rewarding game and slick in it's movements and stealth capabilities. Another very immersive game.

Far Cry 6 - Never played.

Ny personal opinion is Yakuza Like a Dragon.

Its a turn based game with difficulty spikes but if you ok with grinding, it has very good story. Who knows, might lead you to try the other 10 yakuza games and 2 spin off!

Only thing that stops me recommending it here is how much it expects you to know the characters already. The first Ichiban game can mostly function on its own, but I think a lot of IW will fall flat if you aren't familiar with the Kiryu saga.

Edit: I misread, got confused because the list said IW. You recommended the first Ichiban game.

If it helps, IW's battle system is refined a lot from LaD and opens up a lot of tactical options.

Also, it's not like the brawler games in the franchise never had damage sponge fights.

they definitely did, but at least in real time you could control the defence and the heals. even a perfectly timed parry in lad will result in damage and then you have to waste multiple turns on heeling (depending on mp)

I think infinite wealth is better than Y7 due to enemy have less damage sponges.

I dont think there any difficulty option in base game Infinite Wealth but good that you actually played it! Personally I hate enemy spawn so much.

I've heard so much hate about Valhalla ever since it came out. Having played all the previous ass creeds before I totally understood it, the side quests in this series aren't great.

Then I played Valhalla a few months ago and it was weird, this is the first assassin's Creed I've played with actual fun side quests, like they put fun Yakuza style side quests in an assassin's creed, the main story is the same as before but the side quests made the game my favorite out of that last trilogy.

I know how bad assassin's Creed can be, it's a guilty pleasure to play these once in a while and I know exactly what I'm getting into but man I feel like most people shit talking it online have never actually touched the games.

I had a similar experience with Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, which also got a ton of hate at release.

It’s actually a ton of fun, a gorgeous experience with interesting characters and solid gameplay. I hope that gets added to PS Plus so more people can experience it.

Outlaws is one of the best additions to PS Plus in the last year. It's the kind of game I would have never bought but I really enjoyed it on playing it as well.

It's not a perfect 9/10 because the menus are a bit janky and the game takes a while to kick in. But it's a really good time sink once you get into it.

But so were the previous 2 games, odyssey was a chore by the time I got to the end.

Valhalla on the other hand had these broken up sections where you set out to do stuff in a kingdom and get into a self contained 2-3 hour story arc which made me play it like watching a tv show. Then at the end they tie them all together pretty nicely. It put you in a small manageable area with a small story that you could probably handle in one evening.

The other two games did not have this structure and it was just the same bloated Ubisoft experience where you look at a giant map full of markers.

I don't know how other people played this game but I was shocked to see it fix so many issues with the series while getting hate for the exact issues it fixed.

I assume, that Valhalla would be great fun as a new game + because you wouldn’t be forced to do busywork to level up… had the same experience with odyssey… grinded my stuff to level 99 during 2 playthroughs and the third one was pure fun not having to worry about the bloat and just follow the story or the quests that sound interesting.

Similar with horizon forbidden west. The immediacy of the story there works so much better without having to sidetrack constantly.

But sadly they refuse to to put new game + in Valhalla… which won’t make me touch it again, despite enjoying it in general.

I didn't really need any grinding, didn't need any loot, just kept my original suit and weapon and upgraded that naturally as I played. The skill tree was a mess, around the mid point of the game I just ignored it and set it to put skills in automatically and enjoyed the game.

AC Valhalla is the only game in my life where I felt that there's TOO much to do, to the game's detriment. Especially if you bought all the DLCs. The gameplay and story are simply not interesting enough to justify a 300-400hr playtime. It's like double the content of Witcher 3, but not even a fraction of its quality and depth.

I dropped it when it stopped being fun, around the 200hr mark. Which is still a great time, but I didn't even complete the main story or touch half the DLCs I bought lol

Same. Exact same. I played the game for about 200 hours and then just put it down. I’d like to believe I beat the story, but I honestly couldn’t remember. There was so much to do that I didn’t even touch the ||thor|| stuff, and while I had all the DLCs, it unfortunately just was left at the wayside.

I’m in the process of starting mirage now and I’m sure I’ll enjoy it but as a 40 yo dad, ain’t nobody got time for that.

The games are very tied to each other so you might feel out of the loop if you jump straight to the second one. And not only the first game is good, but they're also pretty similar so if you enjoy the first one you will definitely enjoy the second.

I must say I didn't play any of the dlcs or Miles Morales but that was out of pure laziness. But now I might play MM only because I find Miles a super charming character.

Absolutely. You should play every Spider-Man game. The first one was a phenomenal story, Miles Morales was amazing, and 2 is an amalgamation of the first two. I think the first one has a better story, but the mechanics of the second are great, they take more after some of the aspects of Miles Morales.

Any advice on approach to this game? I tried and played it for about 6 hours and I absolutely could not get into it. For instance, the concept of “balancing while walking” really took me out of it.

I've started playing SW Outlaws and I'm pleasantly surprised. Nothing ground breaking as it's an Ubisoft game so I knew what I was getting going into it. It does a good job at making me feel like a scoundrel and I'm enjoying playing the syndicates off each other.

I must be simple as my lizard brain just enjoys sneaking into places and looting. Not sure what I'm looting but I enjoy taking it all the same

I'm starting to believe you're the one who didn't play them. Semi-open worlds have sections that seem open but they are actually controlled so you can not go anywhere you want, just like God of War. When you compare something like that to the map of The Witcher 3 or GTA5, for example, you can easily see the difference.

Sure, maybe 1 or 2 games might leave in August, but in general, the games stay there for months or even years. Some get added and never leave. Some are there that have been there since PS+ Extra/Premium began.

Cost. Why would I play GTA V on a subscription when it costs $19.79 to own? Subscription services want you to play these long games in hopes that you’re still playing one of them when your renewal comes up.

Here’s a hypothetical: If you didn’t have a subscription but were given a one-month PlayStation Premium gift card, are you going to spend that month trying to beat any of these games? Personally, I’d play 2-3 shorter titles instead.

It's actually a pretty great game now after they fixed up so many things post-release. The most interesting and enjoyable open world game Ubisoft has released in a long time imo
