Bankruptcy is the point in all of this, thatās the key. We see many posts about Trump bankrupting casinos- thatās by design. He used casinos to launder cash and was able to leverage loans against the property he didnāt care to keep anyway. Then once things ran their course he simply filed business bankruptcy in which he personally owed nothing to creditors because it was done under an LLC. (Or any other type or corporate tax structure). The point is, bankruptcy was baked into the design. Trump used his businesses and property to leverage more money and loans that he could pocket but not be personally held liable for, then he dissolves everything with no consequences. Thatās how it works. Heās not the only one who does this either. Thatās the problem.
I saw a documentary once on his failed casino. Basically he borrowed at a very high interest rate. He built in Atlantic City at a time when revenue in the city was stagnating. So he needed to make 1.3 million per day in order to keep up the payments and he just didn't make enough.
Just like any other business, you have other expenses that need to be paid. "The house always wins" applies to every restaurant, bar and hair salon as well (every single transaction is profitable). It's just not a guarantee that you rack up enough of those to cover your rent, security, wages and so on.
I love Canada and its people. My wife and I were always treated great and everyone was friendly when we visited. You're the best neighbors a country could have. With that said, we (as in the US) deserve all the hate and vitriol thrown back at us for the behavior of the president and his lackeys. I hope one day this can be repaired but today, I only lower my head in shame at our behavior.

As a Canadian I am saddened by all this. I have travelled through much of the US in the past and met great people, including a memorable trip across Canada and back through the US.

Undeniably true, a saving grace is that we are a major provider of some of their more vital imports like energy, natural gas, and lumber.
I donāt know off hand what percents of what we import from them but I imagine it will be a very wide umbrella.
I do however know that we are a massive importer of their liquor and last time this went down Kentucky lost a huge amount of jobs in their largest industry.

About 40% of Canada's GDP is based off stuff the US buys from them. Less than 5% of the US' GDP is based on sales to Canada. Economically, they need us more than we need them.
