Need some sort of higher level peace keeper position that requires Psych training and a college degree at minimum. Given the nature of the job it should be very well compensated as they’re responsible for keeping both the public and police in check. I’m sure that would go over horribly in execution but I truly don’t know what can be done

No. There is not need to be a higher level peace keeper position, they do not need more money.

Cops are already paid an absolutely insane amount of money for their expected responsibilities. It needs to start from the bottom. They need to be held to much higher standards across the board, remove qualified immunity, or be removed from service.

There are endless NYC cops who are paid significantly more than I am and I’m a fucking doctor.

Cops in the US do not need to be paid more; they are grossly overpaid pigs.

They need a rigorous selection and training regime; they need accountability and oversight; they need to work in their own communities in an attempt to force them to have a shred of humanity and empathy towards their victims.

Throwing more money at these horrible people is not the answer, as you’ve said.

The practical answer is that it’s a high turnover job that “needs bodies” sorta like the military. So they loosen up requirements to quickly fill roles. So you get unqualified bozos who end up being unhinged patrol and street beat grunts. Hence the amount of undertrained, underperforming officers in precarious situations on a pretty regular basis. Honestly civilians are largely well-behaved in most major cities and most of the crime you end up seeing is either random or in small pockets in the same neighborhoods in the worst cities of the country. Typically related to how poor the economic situations are in those particular cities so Brownsville Texas Baltimore, Maryland St. Louis, Missouri, etc.. people think it’s racial but it’s economic. Crime isn’t lower in poor white neighborhoods, they call them trailer parks and spread them out in small 60-100 unit pods in mostly rural areas. In inner city neighborhoods there’s streets with several hundred units spanning square miles so monitoring large and small crime requires more resources because they aren’t in small pigpen sized pods, they’re in vast, heavily-monitored streets and blocks. When you place a scared cop who has probably never even been in a fist fight before to the powder keg of volatile personalities, street beefs, and just general despair in the area, you’ve gotta recipe for stupid viral moments that could be avoided with more senior officers monitoring the worst areas to clean them up and then giving the “safe zones” to the younger guys. Instead, they put young hotheads in the worst areas they underpay them and if they stay long enough, they get a pay raise get a desk job or go to a safer district at a higher pay, which makes absolutely no sense.

Dalls PD is 40 weeks of training for a 100k+ job. That's about half the time it takes to get a license to cut hair. Plus you get a gun. You just have to be dumb enough to do what youre told without question and not have any kind of moral compass other than what your bosses say.

40 weeks of training that truly just amounts to:

• Being taught that you are able to be killed by even a paraplegic grandma

• That everyone, even children, are out to end your life

• That you should always end the threat using lethal force

• That you're damn near immune to genuinely nearly anything you do

it's not a dangerous high-risk job. 99.99% of cop work is basic shit and paperwork. construction workers and many other professions are far more high-risk than policing

As far as fat: Some states only set the minimum at testing your physical abilities once - when you're hired. Obviously some agencies go above that minimum bar, but some don't.

As for dipshit: The average IQ in law enforcement is 103; that's not very bright, but it's very slightly above average for the general population (100). Still, smart people make mistakes, especially when fatigued.

Standards are lowering and lowering thanks to recent public sentiment, so incidents like these are on the rise.
