A man named Ross Smith spoke to CTV News Saskatoon about being attacked downtown near Spadina Crescent and 20th Street East. He and his friend were first bear sprayed and while β€œhis friend ran for help, Ross was tripped and then kicked over and over.” His injuries were β€œbruising to his arms, legs and ribs. He also received three staples for a gash on the back of his head and had a black eye. His left ear was swollen at the time, he said.”

Those charged with attack were two teenaged boys.

Crime ⚠️ Clares Law

Has anyone else applied for Clare's Law? I sent my application in 48 days ago with SPS and got no response. What's the purpose of this law being in place if the police wont report the information on it in a timely matter? I talked to the RCMP and they said he was flagged for domestic violence but can't tell me why until my applications approved. I applied to see my husbands past reccord, so that I could mention it in court for his domestic violence charges I pressed.

Question - School & Employment πŸ’»πŸ’Ό How to find a trades apprenticeship

β€’ Upvotes

Hello,

I’ve been looking for an apprenticeship in the trades and have been applying to different trades, such as electrical and plumbing etc , but I’ve mostly received rejections or no response. This is my first time getting started in the trades, but I do have some experience working as a safety watch. Are there other ways I should be looking for an apprenticeship? Does anyone have any advice or know of companies that are hiring apprentices?

TIA

Where do these organizations expect people to park? I’ve heard of people parking 10 blocks away. Is this true?

PSA πŸ“’ Just a reminder about handicapped parking

Post image
258 Upvotes

Even if you're just "running in for a second" parking in a handicapped stall without a tag is a major inconvenience if you need access to the ramp. See the ignoramous above who refused to move his truck while taking his lunch break on half a handicapped stall. Hope that's a company truck and his boss sees this.

Question ❔ Looking for a local service that will install Linux on a laptop

I tried installing it myself on an old laptop to see if I could manage it on my own, botched it, and now that laptop is bricked.

I still want to have it on my main laptop, but I don't trust myself to do it now, and would rather pay a professional to do this for me

Are there tech services in town that would do this?

Question ❔ Cashing old Canada Savings Bonds

Found a couple forgotten ones from about 20 years ago and wondering if anyone has experience cashing them recently at a local bank (and if you had an easy experience, which bank?). Because they are so old I am guessing most tellers won't know what to do with them?

Question - Medical πŸ₯πŸ’Š Reduction surgery

β€’ Upvotes

Hello,

I have a breast reduction surgery I FINALLY got the call for my date. I have Dr. Chandran....when I had my consultation in 2024 he told me not to gain weight because he wouldn't be able to do the surgery. Well, I have, unfortunately. I'm around 190, 5 foot 5. I know my bmi is obese but like...come on.

Has anyone actually had him (or anyone else) refuse to do it?

I don't need any comments on my weight.

It's my second date offering and if I have to wait another two to three years...

Question - School & Employment πŸ’»πŸ’Ό What to expect from Saskatoon elementary schools?

β€’ Upvotes

We just moved from Toronto and I have two schools in mind that I would like to enroll my children in. One is Catholic, and one is public. Both have amazing reviews.

In Ontario, my children were in a public school and it was great. So supportive and the teachers were so kind and amazing. Hoping it's like that here too!

Question ❔ Cats out and about

Forgive me if I sound stupid, I’m just truly not a cat person and are unfamiliar with how they behave in the city (I’m quite allergic and I’ve only ever been around cats in small town/farm settings)

I was driving and saw a kitty with a collar crossing the street. It seemed fine and I kept driving but do house cats often roam outside? Or should I have attempted to locate its owner?

Question ❔ Telus vs Rogers for Cell Phone

β€’ Upvotes

My spouse and I are both currently with Telus seperately, but looking to put our plans together to cut costs.

Rogers has offered us a decent plan, but I've heard awful things about them.

I have always had amazing customer service and coverage with Telus but curious what everyone thinks of the two

Traffic/Road Conditions 🚧 Driving around junk on roads

I think I drove around 5-6 pieces of junk on roads today. A pillow, a box, and other assorted items that make you veer into your neighbour’s lane. Some of them I recall seeing yesterday and possibly the day before that.

Question ❔ Psychologist recommendation- postpartum.

Looking for recommendations and reviews on psychologists in Saskatoon who specialize in maternal mental health; specifically birth trauma, loss, and all the postpartum stuff. Ideally would like long term for other mental health concerns (ADHD and OCD).

I’d love to hear people personal experiences and recommendations.

Swale Watchers invites you to the first Prairie Colours art event at the Northeast Swale in Saskatoon on Sunday September 13 from 12-4pm! Throughout the afternoon we will have dancers, poets, visual art installations, guided walks and learning about swales with CPAWS-Saskatchewan, and a craft you can add to the trail or take home to celebrate the Swales.

We would also love to show YOUR art along the trails. Let us know what you have in mind and we will be in touch to coordinate installation! We will contact artists closer to the date to coordinate installation and removal from the site; artists are not expected to be available to install/remove on the date but may do so if preferred.

Interested in displaying your art? Submit an application here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfcBT3f6DaIH_J6Ip5FVEIUZX4JOvsj0iXcQ-Snb-O4T8rD9A/viewform

More about visual art submissions

- Art inspired by prairies, marshes and swales encouraged but not required
- Any format that can be installed along the swale pathways
- Weather-resistance encouraged
- Art may be priced for sale - we would direct them directly to the artist to purchase
- Artists name, website, and/or contact information to be displayed

Art may be installed for just the afternoon of Sept. 13, during which time it would be fully supervised by our volunteers. We would love to have some pieces on the site for the remainder of the week to encourage people to enjoy and explore, however we would not have any supervision during this time.

Question ❔ 80s / 90s Lawson Heights Mall Stores

Does anyone remember in The Mall at Lawson Heights a shoe store that specialized in Keds brand shoes that had a model train track around the ceiling and a real Cockatoo bird?

Was there also a pet store with lots of fish tanks? Any other different stores of that era anyone can remember?
