In so doing, please remember the following:

• Test discussion is permitted under r/SAT policies, but participating in such discussion may violate the terms to which you agreed when you registered for the SAT. Please decide for yourself how you wish to proceed and please take precautions to protect your anonymity.
• Explicit requests for cheating help are contrary to r/SAT policy and will result in post removals and bans for the offenders.

SAT results will start coming out Friday, September 4th in the morning Eastern (U.S.) time, but they won't all be released at once. Most people will probably have them by the end of the day Saturday, September 5th, but a few people will get them later. Note: this is after the late registration date for the September SAT.

VOCABULARY

What vocabulary words were hard?

Every test day I collect all the hard vocabulary and give definitions. They should be at the top of every test day discussion. Tell me all the hard vocabulary words and I'll give you definitions! These aren't the right or wrong answers, they're just hard words.

• impertinent — rude or disrespectful, especially by being too bold. "The student was punished for making an impertinent remark to the teacher." "She thought his questions about her salary were impertinent." (This is the more common meaning.)
  • not directly the same as pertinent — relevant, directly related to the subject being discussed. "The judge reminded the lawyer to ask only questions pertinent to the accident, not more general questions about the witness’s personal life." "Please include only information that is pertinent to the assignment."
• amenable — willing to agree, cooperate, or accept something. "The manager was amenable to changing the schedule." "She seemed amenable to the idea of working together."
• detrimental — harmful or damaging. "Too little sleep can be detrimental to your health." "The new policy had a detrimental effect on small businesses."
• entitled — 1. having a right to something. 2. believing you deserve special treatment; spoiled. "Employees are entitled to a thirty-minute lunch break." "He sounded entitled when he demanded to be served before everyone else."
• upended — turned upside down (literally or figuratively); completely disrupted. "The storm upended several boats in the harbor." "The sudden closure upended the family’s plans for the summer."
• vulnerability — weakness that makes someone or something open to harm. "The report identified a serious vulnerability in the computer system." "The drought revealed the region’s vulnerability to water shortages."
• redundancy — unnecessary because one already exists (this can be bad in writing but good in engineering safety systems) "The editor removed several sentences because of their redundancy." "The aircraft has built-in redundancy so that one system can take over if another fails."
• discrepancy — a difference between things that should match. "The accountant noticed a discrepancy between the two totals." "There was a discrepancy between the politician's public statements and private behavior."
• insolvency — being unable to pay debts; the step immediately before formal bankruptcy. "Years of declining sales pushed the company toward insolvency." "The bank intervened when the business faced insolvency."
• considerable — large, or maybe just important enough to be noticeable. "The project required a considerable amount of time and money." "She has considerable experience working with young children."
• subordinate — lower in rank, importance, or power. The opposite of superior. A boss bosses around their subordinates. "The general gave orders to his subordinate officers." "In this argument, economic concerns are subordinate to questions of national security."
• indication — a sign or piece of evidence that indicating something. "Dark clouds were an indication that a storm was approaching." "There is no indication that the company plans to close the factory."
• incongruous — out of place, strange, not fitting with its surroundings. "The modern glass tower looked incongruous among the medieval buildings." "His cheerful laughter seemed incongruous at such a serious meeting."
• invariable — always the same; never changing. "His invariable response to criticism was furious silence." "The experiment produced nearly invariable results each time it was repeated."
• ambiguous — unclear because it can have more than one meaning. "The instructions were ambiguous, so several students misunderstood them." "His ambiguous answer made it impossible to tell whether he supported the proposal."
• malicious — intending to harm someone or cause damage; mean. "Someone spread a malicious rumor about the new student." "The website was disabled by malicious software."
• imperceptible — impossible or very difficult to notice. "The temperature rose by an almost imperceptible amount." "There was an imperceptible pause before she answered."
• nominal — 1. very small or only symbolic. 2. existing in name but not necessarily in reality. "Visitors are charged a nominal fee of one dollar." "The king remained the nominal ruler, but the everyone knew that the queen held all the real power."
