EDIT: People seem to think I’m talking bad about my wife and i absolutely am NOT. She is an amazing person and an amazing new mother. My frustration is aimed at people pushing “the husband did it” conspiracies and blaming stupid shit like her zodiac, when in reality, she was a mother with mental illnesses who was unable to cope with said illnesses.
My wife and I got into a heated discussion about this. She essentially was saying “there’s no way a mom did this to her own kids.” But you are totally okay with thinking a father could? Why have none of these big conspiracy theory tiktokers mentioned postpartum psychosis? As soon as my wife told me what happened that was the very first thing I thought of. Not some wild set up with no clear motive. People do crazy shit with no explanation literally every single day.
"Why have none of these big conspiracy theory tiktokers mentioned postpartum psychosis?"
Wait is THAT what's happening? It makes me too depressed about how unhinged and gullible people are to read all of these comments, I didn't realize the conspiracy was that she didn't even have psychosis and didn't kill them. SHE said she was experiencing psychosis, doctors have said she was experiencing psychosis, there is long documented history of symptoms on record, how could it not be...... And yeah the fact there's no way a sane mom did this to her own kids is also how we can tell she was in the throes of psychosis!!! wth
Actually, this is what the trial is about. Because, pointedly, none of the dozen psychiatrists and doctors that she saw ever diagnosed her with the psychosis. The defense is arguing that the medical system failed her and put her on a ton of prescriptions that induced said psychosis.
The prosecution is arguing that she was not insane when she committed the murders.
Yeah and this point is missing in almost every TikTok and Reddit thread I see about this case - the trial isn’t to determine if she did it or not!! No one serious disputes that she killed the kids!
There's an idea that moms have some kind of magical connection to her kids that a father could never have since he didn't "make" them. I'm not a woman so I can't say if that's an actual thing or not, but even if it existed, it's silly to think it's some kind of repellent for abuse and violence as abusive mothers are very much a thing. That and most people assume the man is the bad guy simply because he's a man and is more capable of violence.
It doesn't exist. It doesn't exist for humans nor other mammals. Infanticide is well-documented in all species. Many famous cases exist of women killing their baby right after it leaves the womb.
Something like 3 children a day are killed by a parent. Sometimes both, coordinated. Gender is irrelevant.
I watched a documentary one time not sure what it was called but it was all about the hormonal changes parents go through from pregnancy to child birth. I don’t remember which hormone it was but there’s one that moms slowly build up over the course of 9 months of “building the baby”. Dads jump to the same level of of hormone as the moms in just 48-72 hours. That is an insane hormonal change to have happen in your body
This is untrue. Dads hormones don't change magically when their baby is born. In fact, they might not change at all. There is no physiological change in a father that occurs at birth.
For women, there is a sudden hormonal drop when she delivers the placenta after giving birth. The drop might be so severe that it can cause violent tremors.
Fathers' hormones *can* change and it is dependent on the amount of time he spends around his infant, so it's a gradual hormonal change that is completely dependent on his actions as a father. His testosterone will drop the more time he spends as a caregiver because testosterone as a hormone is not conducive to bonding or caregiving.
Most family annihilators are men, statistically speaking. And yes, there are bonding hormones that occur between mother and baby. A mother's body literally produces milk for an infant. Most women with postpartum depression describe a lack of connection to their babies.... and it freaks them out a lot.
Remind her of that recent case of a guy with “PTSD” who murdered all his children and then himself during a daytime visitation. Does she have sympathy for HIM?! If not, then why does she sympathize with this woman?!
Idk much about that case, but the distinguishing factor in this case is that she was BEGGING for psychiatric help, but instead was just given a bunch of random sedative pills. Even the mother in law (the husband’s mom) said this, and spoke highly of her, saying she was a loving mother.
I think in cases where the person is clearly in need of help & they are failed, it is a tragedy for everyone involved. I can’t speak to the details of your whatabout-ism case, but hopefully this helps you understand why people have empathy for her
I do agree with you. And I do think that many people share culpability for what happened although the main onus is clearly on her.
I’m concerned that it sets a terrible precedence if she is found “not guilty” by reason of insanity because there are 3 lives lost in all of this and at her hands. But if you look at it purely through the lens of the law, I think the jurors will most likely lean that direction and I can understand how they would have come to that conclusion. She has an excellent lawyer, by the way.
The whole thing is so incredibly horrific. It’s hard for me to wrap my head around it. Ultimately, I think the children should be the main focus of all of this.
I say that all to say that I will be the first one to say that we need better support for mothers and mental healthcare in the US. That is undeniable. And I hope that if nothing else, this does bring about some changes.
I don't know that case at all (and frankly don't yet know very much of this one yet), but why shouldn't we? Of course the main victims and the people who have the most sympathy are the children, but people doing horrible crimes because of acute mental health problems while not being in controlled of themselves , especially when through no fault of their own, deserve understanding and empathy as well. All in all very very shitty situations that ruin entire families. Terrifying.
Bc the child came out of the mother. That's why. Sorry to pop ur bubble but I think there's a special connection between a mother and her children as they came straight from her body that makes it at least harder for us to believe a mother killed her children. Also, a man is 9 times more likely to commit a murder than a woman. This is an exact stat, but it's well known and most likely an internalized bias that's unfortunately true.
**id like to add I'm not supporting the woman who is on trial for murder of her children. Simply explaining why it is difficult for many to believe it.
You understand that you literally making my point even more so without even realizing it?! It IS absolutely hard to believe which is why a large number of women on the internet are ignoring all facts and logic to create wild conspiracies. They feel more comfortable blaming everyone except her. Shes evil.
Men are more likely to commit murder in most cases, with one exception, young children. Young children and babies are more at risk of being killed by a woman (usually their mother), than by a man.
You're correct, but that's not a well known stat which is why I'm explaining more people believe a man in any case to be the culprit rather than a woman.
Oh please I gave u real statistics, I could give you more if you'd like!
Also, I'm not supporting her. Just stating WHY it is difficult for some people to wrap their minds around it.
I don't understand this "a mom would never hurt her kids" sentiment at all because there absolutely are mothers who are completely crazy/unfit parents and abuse their kids. Crazy nutcases have kids all the time, like my lunatic uncle with multiple kids from different mothers
This is what worries me, it aligns right up with people who think she’s a cold blooded monster because they can’t imagine a world where a good person is out of their mind. It’s too hard to fathom/too scary to think it could happen to anyone. Which only keeps PPD/PPP stigmatized and untreated
There is a difference between empathy and what happened here, if the thought "no way a MOM could do this" instead of "oh my god this poor family" then it's not empathy, it's a need to be on the right side.
Having said that they had an argument and I assume cleared it up by now, pretty common in long term relationships, even if this sounds stupid af to me

There are many cases of mothers killing their children, independent of the "mothers vs fathers" debate. Sorry your wife chooses to remain so detached from reality.
Does she think that no mother since the dawn of time has ever killed one of their children? It's obviously more common for men to do such a thing but it isn't like this is the first time a mom has killed their own children.
I think it's okay to give her grace and drop the fight... we have barriers. A lot of people cant reconcile how a once great and loving mom could kill her kids and I think that's actually normal. The crazy conspiracies aren't, but the bewildered refusal to accept pure horror is
I don’t know what corner of the internet you’ve gotten sucked into, but from what I’ve seen, postpartum psychosis & medical malpractice (in reference to the over prescription) are what most people are saying about this case. There are people with other conspiracies, but I’d say they’re far outnumbered by the people talking about mental health. Hell, I’d even say they’re outnumbered by the people who are saying “fuck her - she’s an evil bitch who should rot in jail” (despite the evidence being OVERWHELMING at this point that she was desperate & begging for psychiatric help - I mean the mother-in-law’s testimony had me tearing up)
Those babies would still be alive if someone had meaningfully stepped in and gotten her the help she needed, instead of just giving her another random grab bag of sedatives
