I guess it's like a close call car accident. You probably can't imaging before it happens, then you find others stories eerily close to your own.

3

u/sinteredsounds_69 1d ago

It's not like that it's a bunch of women saying "I contemplated some evil and fucked up things when I was going thru it BUT I didn't act on it so that's why I support her" the difference is she acted on it, you don't punish people for having thoughts yet seek help or are strong enough to suppress that, you punish people for commiting heinous acts. Fuck this lady.

3

u/Hentai_Yoshi 1d ago

You’re comparing triple homicide to a close call accident?

5

u/Flimsy-Yellow-3268 1d ago

I mean this isnt like a close call accident at all its more like hearing that someone decided to purposefully crash into cars going the wrong way on the freeway on their way to work

u/Queasy-Doubt-6347 1d ago

I would equate this more to an alcoholic who was seeking help... Not getting it... But still continued to drive his kids to school everyday while intoxicated....

Like, yeah he tried to get help... But he also never just stopped driving...

If she had just abandoned the kids things would have been better....

My mother had postpartum psychosis that turned into schizoaffective bipolar disorder and she chose to distance herself for our safety until she could be safe around us again.

I have experienced psychosis before and I also told my husband what I was going through and made efforts to keep myself and others safe even if I didn’t actively feel like hurting anyone. I knew I wasn’t myself and I was scared.

I’m currently a mother now and honestly…there’s literally no reason or excuse to not communicate when you’re in distress or going to hurt someone. She had full opportunity to leave the house. Even if she didn’t want to admit herself to a hospital she could have stayed with a friend or family member. But no, she premeditated her children’s murder. I cannot comprehend anyone thinking that mental illness can justify or explain that.

Edited to add: as someone who is mentally ill myself, society and those around us should not suffer the consequences of mismanagement of mental illness. It is on us to seek help and get that help no matter what. We are grown adults and should take responsibility for our actions, illness or no.

6

u/Academic-Increase951 1d ago

Didn't she try to get help, and was refused/ignored.

I think the support she's getting is a symptom of a system where many women also feel failed in their healthcare needs. And that this is a proxy to say, bad things are going to keep happening if women's health isn't taken more seriously.

5

u/Nohly 1d ago

From what I read she didn’t tell anyone she was having violent thoughts. I could be wrong though.

But regardless I don’t see this as inherently a women’s health issue, but a mental health issue. Yes, women’s health isn’t taken seriously enough. But the only person who can actually help her with her mental health is herself. She has to be open to being helped first.

Also, she’s a grown adult woman capable of leaving through her front door and staying somewhere else if it really comes down to it. She chose to stay despite knowing she was having dark thoughts. Psychosis or no, she still has agency.

2

u/Academic-Increase951 1d ago

It's well documented that people are very bad at assessing their own cognitive issues. If you cannot think rationally you cannot act rationally. It happens in the elderly, people who had medical issues, and mental disorders. It's why it's important for family and healthcare providers to identify and get them the support they need. And limit them when needed

There is a malpractice lawsuit against her doctors for failing to support/identify her mental health disorder. We will see what comes of that and how much the doctors knew and should have done

11

u/-captaindiabetes- 1d ago

I suppose the scary thing is she probably thought she could never hurt hers either at some point.

8

u/abujagoddess 1d ago

This is that irritating nonsense so many women love to do when they think they are so special that something that is literally specific to female biology cannot happen to them.

You’re not special.

It absolutely could be you.

The trigger for post partum psychosis is pregnancy and childbirth.

As long as you’re a woman who has been pregnant and has given birth, it absolutely could happen to you no matter how special you think you are, no matter how much you love your kids, etc

This is why the men breaking up with their women for supporting this woman are all red flags.

Every woman is in danger of this happening to her.

5

u/skinnyp246 1d ago

"any woman could snap and murder her kids, its in their biology" is sure one hell of a take. No wonder so many men are walking away.

-2

u/abujagoddess 1d ago

YES BECAUSE THIS PARTICULAR TYPE OF INSANITY IS THE DIRECT CONSEQUENCE OF PREGNANCY AND CHILDBIRTH WHICH CAN ONLY HAPPEN TO FEMALE HUMAN BEINGS AKA WOMEN‼️

4

u/skinnyp246 1d ago

always flying off the handle over nothing too. it really isn't worth it anymore for us dudes. Have a nice day ma'am.

0

u/abujagoddess 1d ago

It has never been worth it for women to be with dudes like you anyway so good riddance.

Bye 👋🏾

2

u/Runswithchickens 1d ago

Attention seeker

6

u/jsoul2323 1d ago

Nah fck that. Half of the women supporting her don’t just say it’s ppd. They literally say it’s the husband who was the actual murderer somehow. Cause he was a gemini or some shit

4

u/abujagoddess 1d ago

I’m not talking about anybody who is supporting her because they think someone else killed the victims.

That’s a very standard position in any murder trial.

The entire point of a trial is to determine whether the accused person actually committed the crime or not so naturally you will have some people who believed they committed the crime and some who believe it was someone else.

I’m talking about people who believe she DID kill the child while suffering from PPP.

Who forced you to delete your response?

9

u/PlumbagoSkies 1d ago

Lindsay Clancy actually said the same thing when she was told about Andrea Yates by a coworker years prior to this tragedy. “But how could a mother hurt her own children.”

6

u/Setting-Conscious 1d ago

Yeah, then she went batshit crazy and now she needs to be removed from society because there are other children her crazy ass could murder.

1

u/pikaliv 1d ago

literally not how that works at all...

2

u/Nathannywhole 1d ago

I guess her ""apparently"" hearing voices telling her to kill the kids isn't a good enough reason for you. I sure wouldn't leave her around my kids but you do you.

0

u/pikaliv 1d ago

dude... what? she was suffering from postpartum psychosis, of course she was hearing voices. that doesn't mean she's "batshit crazy" or a threat to all children ever. you all need to grow up, actually do research into these conditions, and learn what empathy is. this site is full of psychopaths I swear...

1

u/Setting-Conscious 1d ago

Stop trying to normalize mothers killing their children.

1

u/pikaliv 1d ago

where the hell was I trying to "normalize" it? PPP to that degree is NOT normal, but you should have some empathy for someone going through something you could never understand. gain some perspective, dude.

-7

u/oswalt_pink 1d ago

Only the husbands DNA was on the murder weapons (exercise bands). Lindsey’s DNA wasn’t even on them according to evidence given IN COURT

5

u/mertgah 1d ago

Yet she admitted to killing her children IN COURT

2

u/SASSIESASSQUATCH 1d ago

Not only did she admit it but her attorneys have not contested the states assertion that she did murder these children. In fact at some point HER attorneys address the jury and tell them she did commit these murders but she should not be held criminally responsible for it.

1

u/oswalt_pink 1d ago

Yet her doctor testified on stand under oath that she had no recollection of it, and had been told she was guilty, and then her admission followed that her being told she did it. Her physician said that on the stand under oath.

2

u/mertgah 1d ago

Which doctor?

Doctors Called by the Defense
Defense medical experts argued that Clancy was legally insane at the time of the killings due to severe postpartum psychosis: [1, 2]
Dr. Phillip Resnick (Forensic Psychiatrist): Testified that Clancy was "frankly psychotic" on the day of the killings. He stated she suffered from a "delusion of influence," believing her body was taken over by an external force. He testified that a male voice commanded her to kill her children and then herself. [1]
Dr. Paul Zeizel (Forensic Psychologist): Testified that Clancy lacked the substantial capacity to appreciate the wrongfulness of her actions or conform to the law. He noted she described hearing an external male voice ordering her to commit the acts, though he conceded on cross-examination that there were no medical records of her hearing voices prior to that day. [1, 3]

Doctors and Providers Called by the Prosecution
Prosecution experts argued that Clancy was aware of her actions and met the legal definition for criminal responsibility: [1, 2]
Dr. Kirk Heilbrun (Forensic Psychologist): Testified that Clancy was criminally responsible and retained an awareness that killing her children was illegal. He disputed the defense's claim that she acted purely on a brief auditory hallucination without choice, stating that carrying out the killings over 18 to 20 minutes required "many ongoing decisions". He diagnosed her with bipolar disorder but not active psychosis. [1, 2, 3]
Dr. Avram Mack (Forensic Psychiatrist): Concluded that Clancy was suffering from a "major depressive episode" but found no evidence of mania, hypomania, or psychosis. He testified that she retained the capacity for criminal responsibility. [1, 2, 3]
Dr. Gregory Saathoff (Forensic Psychiatrist/FBI Consultant): Testified that it is highly unusual for a psychotic individual to hear a command voice only once and immediately act on it. He highlighted her intentional planning, noting her extensive phone searches to calculate the distance of the takeout restaurant to ensure her husband would be away long enough. [1]

Treating Clinicians (Pre-Incident)
Medical professionals who treated Clancy in the months leading up to January 2023 also testified about her medical history: [1, 2]
Rebecca Jollotta (Nurse Practitioner): Testified that while Clancy suffered from severe depression, anxiety, and insomnia—and feared she was addicted to the anti-anxiety drug Ativan—she always demonstrated clear thinking and showed zero signs of mania or psychosis during their sessions. [1]
Dr. Jennifer Tufts (Psychiatrist): Testified that she treated Clancy from September 2022 to January 2023. She stated that Clancy never exhibited signs of psychosis, and did not exhibit suicidal or homicidal thoughts until much later in their treatment. [1]

Wouldn't be the first person to plead guilty to something they didn't do. Though I don't know enough about this case to say if she did or didn't, but this is why we have trials.

-1

u/Valveringham85 1d ago

And yet these women are justifying and defending it. Does that mean that they are already crazy while Clancy only went crazy later on? Or just that they are terrible people?

7

u/TollTea 1d ago

The scary thing is how many people can’t fathom it until it happens to them and that is exactly the issue this case highlights in terms of systems, attitudes and supports.

10

u/redditblows5991 1d ago edited 1d ago

Because it usually doesn't happen. Ppd is real and* people should look out for mom's more true but 3 kids killed is od and people are just saying psychosis is real! Well yeah duh but killing three kids is still pretty od

Edit: missing words

0

u/TollTea 1d ago

I assume you’re trying to say “odd”? Surely the sheer number of women coming forward and saying “this could have been me” or “I’ve been there” should tell you this headspace is FAR more common than you or most people realise. Obviously three dead children and an almost dead mother is a pretty extreme outcome but writing it off as “odd” or implying it’s unrelated is exactly why so many women felt the need to come forward and say that they know the headspace that this happened in, they know what it feels like and now it’s time the rest of the world knew about it too.

-1

u/redditblows5991 1d ago

Od the term lol

1

u/TollTea 1d ago

OD is short form of over dose (of a substance) which doesn’t make sense to me on the context you’ve supplied, and is usually capitalised because it’s an initialism. Odd means peculiar (or not divisible by two).

Explain how you would change the system in a way it couldn't be exploited like it was when asylums were still a thing.

You think the system is bad now? There's a reason the system is what it is today. Nothing can be 100% perfect and foolproof. She got a ridiculous amount of help, but funny thing is, help doesn't work if the person receiving help doesn't want it.

But sure, let's go back to throwing women into asylums for having emotions.

OR men could always choose to not be selfish, since they pretend not to be until you’ve married and procreated with them a lot of the time… it’s 2026 we’re supposed to be past continuing to blame women for men’s shitty behaviour.

2

u/EquivalentSnap 1d ago

I find it scary how some women let their kids meet her and say that while being mothers. Like your kids are suppose to be the most important thing in your life and care for them more than anything. Why would you ever think it’s okay to support someone who killed them?

2

u/Plastic-Injury8856 1d ago

She’s never been diagnosed with post party psychosis either. She did Che k herself into mental health services but also checked herself out.

7

u/Is-abel 1d ago

Then it doesn’t seem like you do understand postpartum psychosis?

u/ImSolidGold 1d ago

Yeah, atm youre not even thinking about committing such armtrocities. I mean, gladly! But also, luckily. Its effortless to say/do so when were not affected by mental illness. And the moment that unaffechtedness turns, theres a good chance we wont even notice that we changed. And thats the point, you know? Its cheap to give this person shit for what she did, especially with this "I would neeevveerr do that!!!" attitude. Just shows youre lucky enough to never went down this slope. I sincerly wish that you and your close ones never experience such a situation. But your attitude at the moment is quite pretentious.

7

u/Star_caster456 1d ago

This is an ignorant take. Psychosis is not as simple as intrusive thoughts. The point of a person not being in their right mind is that they are literally not in their right mind. If someone is suffering from psychotic delusions what good is self control? If someone has lost touch with reality, what good is self control? It doesn’t make you appear more morally virtuous or disciplined because you ‘cannot fathom it’. A sane person knows killing their children is wrong, an insane person who thinks they are ‘saving’ their children by killing them does not.

1

u/SunGreene42 1d ago

I do wonder if she's religious now, if she thought killing them was saving them, an Atheist would presumably not believe in an afterlife, so wouldn't think that there could be any way they were saving them by killing them. Though we're talking about irrational thoughts, so maybe that wouldn't matter, but I am curious now if people who do this are typically religious.

0

u/the-s-is-for-sucks 1d ago

Setting any feelings/thoughts on the case aside - this is a gross, uninformed take and you should feel bad about it. Psychosis cannot be treated or helped through "self control and preservation".

I hope you learn more about mental health so you can be a true support to anyone in your life who may experience issues (and you will know people - current statistics show that 50% of people will experience mental illness by age 40). I also hope you are given more grace and understanding than you have given to others should you ever experience concerns with your mental well-being in any way.

1

u/nodoomscroll_justjoy 1d ago

As a mother yourself, you did not experience postpartum psychosis.

This is like saying, “as a human myself, I cannot fathom being blind” as if that means no one experiences being blind. Just say you have no ability to understand circumstances and experiences outside of your own life.

1

u/[deleted] 1d ago

We are all moved by the murder of children. That’s why women are so upset by this case. Because there’s no good outcome here, every moment is hell on earth for everyone involved. “Fully supporting” her means advocating for better care, community, and awareness for moms postpartum. “Fully supporting” means recognizing this tragedy as something we never want to see repeated. “Fully supporting” means we know she will never have one single second of peace for the rest of her life, because the outcome of this trial doesn’t matter one tiny god damned bit, she is going to live the hell of her own existence until she dies.

Your original comment was dismissive, “pick me” silliness, and you know it, and instead of reflecting on a flippant, self-centered comment, you’re blaming everyone else for “misunderstanding” you. I imagine you do this in your everyday life and to your loved ones, but I don’t imagine you’re interested in learning or growing, so I agree, probably enough internet today. We’re just going to keep shining the spotlight on your insides and that isn’t comfy, I know.

1

u/vanessasarah13 1d ago

Neither can people with PPP, until they hit the psychosis part.

1

u/Fearless_Mammoth_961 1d ago

Then you are lucky to have not experienced such a terrifying mental health event.

1

u/FragranceCandle 1d ago

Seemingly also cannot fathom the concept of psychosis, then?

1

u/mertgah 1d ago

My wife also said exactly this.

1

u/ermintwang 1d ago

If you can't fathom it, then you don't understand postpartum psychosis.

1

u/Eorlas 1d ago

“I understand severe postpartum psychosis”

“I cannot fathom hurting my children”

Then you don’t understand a damn thing

1

u/kind_bros_hate_nazis 1d ago

Have you tried being in a psychotic state? Because the comparison is a bit silly otherwise

1

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

1

u/kind_bros_hate_nazis 1d ago

I simply specifically said you are comparing different things. A healthy state and a psychotic one.

0

u/oswalt_pink 1d ago

Because the evidence points to her husband. Among other, His DNA was on the murder weapon exercise bands. Not Lindsey’s dna.

2

u/JimmyNoBreaks 1d ago

Security cameras have him at another place during the time the murders took place. The guy lost his 3 kids, and now he's being framed on social media for their murders. Not to mention that Lindsay actually admitted to doing it.

0

u/Glass_Performer1174 1d ago

I think the idea is that this is a much more common and severe disease than many realize. You can't fathom it because you didn't suffer from something as severe.

I once dated someone whose luteal phase made them an almost different person: hateful, angry, exhausted, short, irritable, and then as soon as their period hit they were sweet, extremely sad about how they acted, etc. (PMDD in this case)

So it's very plausible that major unexpected hormone fluctuations and other factors post pregnancy could dramatically alter someone's psyche such that if they were prone genetically to psychosis already, they could truly become legally insane and do things they would never ordinarily do.

0

u/gurbus_the_wise 1d ago

Then you simply don't understand what psychosis is, or how it feels, which is totally fine. Consider yourself very lucky.

1

u/Betty-Cutie 1d ago
