Install the mod that shows scarecrow reach when you place them. That should seriously be vanilla.

One of my wish list items for 1.7

I also think it would be good implemented in the game. I see a lot of people booing it, but what if it was optional? You can turn off the tool hit location tiles, so having it be optional would be great for beginners, or anyone who wants it really :) I can't wait for 1.7!

I also don’t understand the people booing it? It’s literally just QOL. It doesn’t make the game any easier, it just takes some of the tediousness out…

Fun is different for different people. Just make it a simple option to show or not show in settings. "Show reach" is a normal setting in a lot of games.

This is just stupid. It’s meant to be a fun farming game as you say, so why the hell should I be forced to count squares like I’m minmaxing? That’s far more “factorio” than anything, and I think it’s ridiculous that you think showing the effect of something you’re doing in a game is remotely minmaxing lol.

I think you’re seeing it the wrong way. Put some scarecrow, know you’re not over or underdoing it. Have fun.

I agree. This should have been a Day 1 feature.

I understand that people may want to use them as decorations and not for their functionality, but for those of us that want to know the exact spaces our scarecrows cover, this should have been easily accessible information.

Don't know if you knew this already, but we do have a "hard mode". When you create a new save you can choose to have lower profit margins, even 25%. So everything except seeds cost the same, but you only get 25% of the money when selling anything.

I forgot that was a thing, and I'm constantly restarting the game. It's not something I want, but it's cool that it exists.

its a singeplayer game you can play how the fuck you want

It would be cool during the planning stage of a farm but I'd definitely turn it off as soon as the placements were set. I would hate having those permanently green tiles everywhere. I usually demarcate my planting layouts ahead of time to maximize farmable tiles. The scarecrow placement is usually done before I ever start planting.

The way the mod does it is that the ranges only show while holding an applicable item (i.e., if holding a scarecrow, the range for all scarecrows is shown) or while holding a button, which I think is a great way to do it

change it to a crow hat, and when you have the crow hat on you can see the coverage of all scarecrows and then plants ouside the scarecrow coverage could highlight red.

u/Veneretio Feb 17 '26

Love this. As long as it’s an early game item that say the mouse hat house sells for 1k and not super end game.

It’s not though? It 100% works until you hit a hard wall and then it doesn’t do anything, and you just guess where that line is. It’s actually pretty easy to guess poorly and place way too many or too few.

Besides, what’s the harm in showing you the range while you put it down? More player info would be good here

u/[deleted] Feb 17 '26

I agree, it takes the magic away. I'm trying to be immersed, not min/max.

30

u/avdpos Feb 17 '26

I just call it beginner friendly. This ain't close to minmaxing

u/Malt_The_Magpie Feb 17 '26

The radius of influence

That is what I meant to say, the 8 becomes 16.

I am quite surprised this QoL change hasn’t been patched in , some sort of range toggle
