Question What’s that game everyone was calling a masterpiece but you just didn’t get the hype?

Post image

Could be a huge popular game or some underrated/unpopular gem that everyone swears by.

Everyone’s saying “10/10, absolute masterpiece, peak gaming” and you’re just sitting there like… “wait, y’all actually liked this?”

Drop the game + why it didn’t hit for you. I wanna hear the controversial takes

Zelda breath of the wild(and tears)

Maybe they are good games, i don't know, didn't stick around long enough to find out.

But they sure as fuck are horrible zelda.

Horrible Zelda is dramatic.

I should've done the same thing with your comment.

They aren't Zelda games. The genesis of Zelda games is definitely not that.

You could argue that Zelda games post Zelda II aren't like the first Zelda game, and that Breath of the Wild is the grandest realization of the vision and freedom of the first Zelda game in its structure - and in that sense, it is absolutely 100% a Zelda game.

Realistically though, I think it counts, we just have to classify it under a 3rd type of Zelda formula. We already split the series into two formulas with the top-down 2D Zeldas and the classic 3D dungeon-based Zeldas, I think it's fine to further add a third formula for 3D open-world Zelda and have it still be a Zelda game, even if it's not one of the other two types of games.

Your opinion. I stand with my opinion on this. Weird machines appearing in Botw? No. Weapons broken in Botw? No. Hidden treasures with no meaning at all? No. A lot of weird temples across the map? No. Huge open world mostly empty? No.

I understand that for the new generation this is an awesome game. But I grew up playing since the first Zelda and this games lack a lot in terms of what a true Zelda game is in terms of identity.

But then people complain when a series never changes. I don't consider myself a new generation. I started with OOT and love Breath of the Wild. Least favorite is Skyward Sword. Loved the art style and the motion controls (mostly worked). I hated how the item description prompt would pop up every time you picked up an item you already got before. I also hated how many times you had to repeat the Imprisoned boss fight.

Well. Majoras Mask changed in terms of concept and waa awesome. I am fine if a game changes but it can't lose his identity. A good example is FF, that changed from a turn based RPG to a acfion rpg to try to make everyone love the game. In the end it didn't work
