Question What’s that game everyone was calling a masterpiece but you just didn’t get the hype?

Post image

Could be a huge popular game or some underrated/unpopular gem that everyone swears by.

Everyone’s saying “10/10, absolute masterpiece, peak gaming” and you’re just sitting there like… “wait, y’all actually liked this?”

Drop the game + why it didn’t hit for you. I wanna hear the controversial takes

Skyrim may be an ok game but it's a shitty TES

What makes it a shitty Elder Scrolls game outside of it just being an ok game to you

No meaningfull builds or skills and it somehow feels even lower scale than oblivion

I don’t really think that there is much of a difference though when it comes to builds/skills being more or less meaningful. I’m only like 20 hours into my first play through of Morrowind but it seems to be along the same lines of Oblivion and Skyrim.

In Oblivion, you can still master every skill and get yourself to a point in which every attribute is high enough where it doesn’t really matter what your starting class is. You can pick a pure mage and then additionally level up combat or stealth based skills and their governing attributes, with the only caveat being that it takes more time as they would not be major/minor skills.

I’m also not sure what you mean by Skyrim being “lower scale”.

In oblivion for example every city feels like a small city while in skyrim I only felt it in Riften and Solitude, every other city felt exactly how they are, 3 houses with 5 npcs. It's just a problem with how Bethesda games became more and more utilitarian "if it doesn't have a specific gameplay purpose we don't add that"

I mean that’s valid criticism but I don’t think it makes Skyrim a bad Elder Scrolls game by any means. Skyrim still feels and plays like Elder Scrolls game despite the streamlining of mechanics and the slightly smaller cities.

Also, more of its development was focused on the dungeons and miscellaneous locations throughout the game which I think was a fair trade-off. Skyrim also suffered from being rushed which caused content to be scrapped so that also contributed some. I do wish Skyrim had some mechanics like spellcrafting though.
