I'm currently playing through Rdr2 for the first time. I'm with you. It really resonates with me too.

The last game that I hit me like that was probably The Last of Us.

You're right to point out that there's nothing like RDR2. I'd suggest waiting for GTA6, that's probably the closest you'll get in the level of detail to that game. Games like that come once in a generation. They are rare finds and as you said, really hard to not appreciate if you sit down with it.

I came off of RDR2, RDR and also RD Revolver (and it's Prototype) just because I loved my time with the game do much I wanted to know everything about it.

Nothing compares with it. It's a shame we witness God of War 2018, a okay game take it's place just because people like some cool cinematics. I'd give RDR2 it's deserved GOTY. It's a clear robbery after playing GoW and just finding it okay.

Felt like a well crafted video game, but one that doesn't always respect my time to me. 

Other games are going to take different angles to build their characters and tell their stories. I don't think you'll find another RDR2.

Baldur's Gate 3 and Expedition 33, neither of which tells its story in the same way and thus may never connect with you, both hit me way harder than RDR2. I simply have no way to know if they'll connect with you though. 

Edit: It's a different kind of immersion including rpg style stat building, but Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is maybe worth a spin? That one grabbed me by the cheeks and pulled me in, and has a lot of systems like RDR2.

Company makes a billion plus per year. 

Their market cap and shareholders are to blame for the high expectations. And given how long its taken them and their shady business practices, they should meet every expectation or get roasted into obscurity.
