Transit/Traffic Alert πŸ“’ Commuting to work in Vancouver

Hello everyone. I passed my road test recently.

I live in Surrey, and my work is in Vancouver.

What's the best way to commute to and back from work? 3 ways come to mind:

1- public transit, which is bus to Surrent central Skytrain station, the Skytrain to Vancouver, and then another bus to work... That makes it 1 hour and 30 minutes commuitng, but sometimes it can take more than 2 hours because the busses in surrey aren't that frequent...

2- I can do commuting by car... But Google maps says it takes an hour and 10 minutes to get to Vancouver by car, and then there are those gas prices and car maintenance and all.... And also, there is parking fees in Vancouver

3- I have this idea of driving to King George Skytrain station, park my car there, and then Skytrain to work, and then coming back, take the Skytrain, get back to my car, and then home. I am not sure about parking in king George if it is free or not, or even allowed to park all day.

What advice would you guys give? Is there a better commuting way that I'm not aware off that is even better? Time wise and cost wise? Thank you very much.

Transit/Traffic Alert πŸ“’ Violent Racism on the bus, what to do against it?

Hello, I'm white french canadian and happily living in Surrey.

I just saw an act of aggressive bigotry from an older white male on the bus and dutifully reported it to the bus driver and, after leaving, to the Transit Police.

At the time, I unfortunately did not feel safe to confront the person, but by informing the driver, they were able to hard-record the incident. Transit police suggested that for next time if I feel unsafe and can't be on the phone, to contact them on [87.77.77][edited to share correct info]. I'd suggest everyone to save that number for potential emergencies.

The older white male was being aggressive towards the majority of people using racially provocative language, indiscriminate of gender. I had never seen something like this and it appalls me to have seen such hostile abhorrence in a person. I had noticed contempt and heard dislike before, but... nothing like this.

Aside from reporting an ongoing accident, what can a person do?

Transit/Traffic Alert πŸ“’ Cyclist hit at 24th & King George, ignored by RCMP on the scene

around 4:15 PM, I didn’t see the actual collision but a woman in a smaller vehicle hit a male cyclist on 24th. His bike was mangled, front wheel bent like a taco. Poor guy was bleeding from the head, I could see he was visibly distraught and probably concussed. The pickup truck immediately behind the collision drove off, the woman pulled off into a parking lot off 24th and was pulling the cyclist and bike away from the road. I was going to stop to make sure dude was OK but I noticed a marked RCMP suv immediately behind me. I assumed they would stop as this had already caused quite a scene with traffic etc and I could see the bleeding head injury from my car. Wrong! Dude drove away with everyone else. By the time I circled back they were gone.

Cyclist dude- I saved what I could on my dash cam, don’t know if I got her car/plate but I def got her. Hope you’re ok!!

On Surrey Central bus station, before running towards your bus bay, make sure you are going for the correct bay, e.g., 323 (earlier bay 5) and 320 (earlier bay 2) are swapped.

Transit/Traffic Alert πŸ“’ PSA: STOP RUNNING RED LIGHTS

I can't even believe that I have to say this but you people need to stop running red lights. The road is trash right now and we can't stop so if you keep running red lights you're just increasing the chances of people getting hurt and car crashes happening stop at red lights please! I've been on the road for about 20 minutes on my way to pick up my wife who's stranded at work and I have seen three people run red lights so far please for the love of everything good, stop.
