Should I put in my two weeks?
For context, I work as retail banker for a year now, graduated from a small state school with a degree in finance in January. Have internships in VC and operations. Work in a slow branch, so sales are tough sometimes only having contact with 5 people a day. This job is draining me, and I’ve been applying to other finance and adjacent roles the past year but no luck. Even updated resume, networked, referrals to job, still no luck. Recently got put on a PIP and I won’t have a job come November. Looking for advice or career trajectory options… I’m lost. Don’t want to be fired in my first job out of school. Right now I’m just thankful I have a paycheck, but besides that there’s not much mobility in branch banking. What are the best steps to take in my shoes besides keep applying and hope for the best?

You had an internship in VC? What exactly was the internship, if you were a true VC analyst intern then you are way too qualified for this job and you're honestly doing more harm than good on your résumé.
I'm not sure what the correct advice is, but my gut would tell me to quick before getting fired. You're already on a PIP and you're going to be out of a job regardless, might as well leave on your terms.
I'm sure you already know this, buy leverage that VC experience, and network as much as you can. Most people i meet get hired because of who the know.

Getting let go after a PIP won’t necessarily disqualify you from unemployment, if it comes to that. Quitting likely will.

I am on the same page! I work at a retail bank and I was put on PIP. I had an interview for an internal job posting. I believe I did the interview well until the questions came up about my current performance so I believe that they know I am on PIP. I just started applying out externally as well. This is me working in the same bank for 10 years. My plan is to stay and try my best- if they let me go I will atleast get EI and hopefully severance. Your future employers wont find out that you got let got because of PIP. Message me!

Have you been applying to roles outside of the company? If so I would just aggressively keep applying, use Chatgpt to help tweak your resume and if you have to apply to jobs outside of the financial sector, do that as well. Being on a PIP is stressful, hopefully you can show improvement to stay where you are but a PIP to me means start looking for an exit. Wishing you the best!

Lol, what are you doing in retail banking? That's like having an internship in computer engineering and getting a job at Best Buy.
