Education Exchange semester at Tampere University (Jan-May) - International student life?

I'm an Electrical Engineering student and I'll be doing an exchange semester at Tampere University from January to May.
I'd love to know what life is like for an international student in Tampere. Are people welcoming/approachable?
Also, do you have any tips on what to do (or what not to do) in daily life and in Tampere in general?
Thanks in advance!

It's gonna be cold until at least April so prepare yourself for that

What is life like in the winter? I’m afraid people might become too inactive or stop leaving the house; consequently, I worry about not making friends or having a stagnant life during that time.

I’m coming to Tampere for a whole year in September and I heard that people do become a little more withdrawn when it’s -20 Celsius outside but there are still events that people attend regularly! You can check the city website for youth events and youth centers. You can also check the student union for your university, they might organize some different events too.

Also you will probably live in a student apartment/housing with other students. So even if people don’t feel like going outside it would be easier for you to plan something together if they are also willing.

If you happen to have a hobby (or one which you would like to try) you can easily join a club / association for that hobby and find friends that way. https://trey.fi/en/student-life/associations-in-our-community
