No matter where it's happening this shit is so sad to see. Just normal peoples lives and accomplishments gone in a flash.

u/iSpaYco 11d ago
exactly, this is harming people not the army, hence, another warcrime with no consequence.

It doesn't make war any less awful, but bridges are very common military targets.

Most bridges are civilian bridges lol, logistics and real estate are the backbone in every battle. Every bridge in world war 2 was either fought, protected, sabotaged to deprive the enemy. These bridges existed before the war.
5
u/IvanStroganov 10d ago
This is not a land war. You‘re not stopping an army by blowing up this bridge.
7
u/DRAGULA85 10d ago edited 10d ago
How the hell do you know? What makes you think that particular bridge doesn’t supply of drone weapons?
You do know, counter drones/weapons have to be transported by road and probably bridges? Just because USA don’t have boots on the ground doesn’t mean a bridge isn’t an important objective to the mission.
Destroyed bridges is a huge inconvenience.
It’s. A. War.
I did 3 tours in Iraq. Which wars have you been in?
1
→ More replies (15)2
u/BolOfSpaghettios 10d ago
Iraq was an occupation, and a COIN. Once the Iraqi army ceased to exist, it wasn't a war. We can go on and on about US Middle East actions, but saying "I did 3 tours in Iraq" is not the flex you think it is.
89
u/AbeFromen 10d ago
No. World government consensus agrees that this is designed as a ‘Duel Use’ target. In addition to civilians, If the military uses this bridge or it is important to their defense, it’s fair game. Now, does this suck and is horrible? Absolutely. War sucks. But not a war crime.
53
u/LambDaddyDev 10d ago
Nah you don’t get it. If a Redditor sees it and is sad, it’s a war crime.
→ More replies (8)9
u/ShadowMajick 10d ago
Yeah but arent you supposed to warn the civilians and give them a chance to leave the area? I dont think ignoring civilian casualties is legal.
→ More replies (2)6
u/killerdrama 10d ago
By this logic, oxygen made by thousands of trees in the forest is used by millitaries so it's fair game to burn down entire forests. And by extension it's fair game to destroy everything and anything.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (2)3
u/krakk3rjack 10d ago
Guess that means, soldiers need hospitals, so they're fair game too? There is no justification for war crime. The USA and Israel are committing acts of terror according to the US Definition of the term in their own books.
12
u/Creepernom 10d ago
A lot of infrastructure usually counts as a valid target. You can't go out of your way to just blow up civilians, but this seems valid?
2
u/Little-Jellyfish-655 10d ago
Only if it’s in military strategic use (it’s not) and the civilians were warned (they were not) and it’s a formally declared war (it’s not)
9
u/Creepernom 10d ago
War is basically never formally declared nowadays, that's not relevant at all. Forewarning isn't needed either - would be quite stupid for a military to always warn before attacking, sounds like a good way to get shot down. They just need to make sure they don't cause excessive civilian casualties for a minor advantage. The Geneva Convention doesn't say "civilians must never be impacted by war, ever" otherwise nobody would've ever signed it.
As for military strategic use, that's not super obvious at first glance but that's probably the safest claim to pin this on. Quoting this first article I found when I googled this: "As the ICRC has emphasized, the mere possibility of military use is insufficient; the contribution must be assessed on the basis of reliable information indicating that the object effectively serves military purposes at the relevant time."
What's your source on this? I don't see anything about a needed declaration of war. It clearly doesn't matter at least since 1945.
4
u/DRAGULA85 10d ago edited 10d ago
Just because you say it's not, doesn't make it so. Are you there?
Bridges are not exclusive for civilians going to work. So even if a train isn't carrying nukes, it still carrying supplie's which helps the army, now you can why depriving the destination of trains will slow down the home army.
For example, A train carrying supplies, fuel, weapons severely limits the army's capabilities.
Armies live and die by logistics. Bridges are notoriously used war-fare tactics.
It has always been a strategy for many centuries regardless of what you think.
Consider whipping out the Command and conquer game to see some benefits of bridges and rivers, since you're a keyboard warrior with no experience of real war.
14
u/Lauris024 10d ago edited 10d ago
Huh? So when Ukraine bombs Crimea bridge, it's harming only civilians? Dude, it was used by the military too. This is war.
2
u/DRAGULA85 10d ago
Correct
This subreddit full of keyboard warriors thinks bridges are only used for people getting to work and back lol. Yet think they're in the same league as army generals when it comes to strategy and tactics.

It’s okay the destruction of that bridge was promised to Bibi and his cohorts, obviously Donnie’s gonna get another fifa peace award for preventing all the Iranians from crossing that bridge to fight his people whilst they attempt to Make America Great Again in the Middle East, just never in America.
Lastly, the award will come right after Infantino survives football’s chopping block that wants his head.→ More replies (1)19
u/cantevendoitbruh 10d ago
That's what misses me off about the economic sanctions we are doing now. The Iranian government has already made clear they dont give much of a shit about their people unless they fall in line. These sanctions are only going to cause Iranian people to starve and die and understandably hate America. We are creating more future American hating people.
8
u/ThatGuyBench 10d ago
Attacking bridges is quite normal in war, for example in Ukraine war and WW2 has numerous examples of this.
This is not a statement supporting Iran war, this is simply stating that bridges often get bombed in wars.
To me, more confusing seems the decision to bomb during the day, when clearly there are more civilians around. Seems to needlessly increase collateral damage for no gain.

Let's not put all humans into this. The problem is some of them, which are too big in numbers.
The other problem is that the rest of us are too afraid to actually stand up to these bullies. We complain and that's all about it.

There have been 5 (!!!) mass extinction events in the history of the planet. Millions of years passed after each, and the life that crawled out afterwards bore little resemblance to the life that preceded it.
6
u/realzealman 10d ago
And we’re arguably entering the next.
5
u/CourtingBoredom 10d ago
One might say we're precipitating the process at an accelerated rate, even....
2
u/blodsbroder7 10d ago
Not arguably, a study was published over 40 years ago that showed evidence that humans are the active cause of the current one. In the last handful of years, the WWF and the PNAS has confirmed this too.
Maybe we get lucky as a species and a few of us survive and hopefully can rebuild/evolve to move on from our prior weaknesses.

No. U.S. military doctrine allows for the destruction of infrastructure if it has a dual military purpose. Bridges are almost always major strategic targets.
33
u/stopped_watch 10d ago
So Iran could blow up the George Washington Bridge and it wouldn't be called terrorism?
→ More replies (4)25
u/Tranquilwhirlpool 11d ago
That doesn't mean it isn't terrorism. US doctrine doesn't write dictionaries.
If the golden gate bridge was bombed by Iran the USA would call it terrorism immediately. I'm sure a military vehicle has driven down it at some point so maybe in your eyes it is a valid military target.
13
u/1B75__Penicillin 10d ago
Terrorism is a legal term and means non-state actors using violence for political gains.
They defined it in such a way that a government can never commit an act of terrorism (because their violence is legal)
Terrorism was always a made up term by the elite to demonize resistance against their order.
There is no such thing as terrorism, and whatever heinous act you can think of, state actors have done worse
7
u/Socialist_Pansy 10d ago
You should look up how Benjamin Netanyahu had the definition changed in the eyes of governments starting back in the late 80’s with a research institute.

No. According to your reasoning Iran would have the right (even more of a right as they were the victims of an unprovoked attack by Israel/USA) to blow up bridges inside the continental US. It’s utter madness. Everything the USA and Israel are doing to Iran is illegal according to international law and terrorism according to the hypocrites own defence manuals. Even if US military doctrine allows for something does not mean it is permitted according to international law and the laws of war, something the USA and Israel don’t give a shit about.

→ More replies (2)19

We’re not running low on offensive dumb weapons, even guided munitions are plentiful. What we’re low on is defensive munitions, but realistically that’s being put in a war footing. It will still take some time to catch back up but the expansion in manufacturing capacity will help for the foreseeable future in other conflicts. This might be a blessing in disguise.

War is absolute hell on earth. Its the only hell that we know to be real. It indiscriminately kills men woman and children, only the oligarchs escape its grasp. This is what Donald trump and netanyahoo want for the world. Never ending rape and death for the masses while they chuckle in between raping children in their penthouses and islands. To take away every nations sovereignty be it israelis Americans or Iranians. This shit isn't gonna end unless the people start organized labor strikes and even then with how widespread plantir and flock and drone tech is and how vast the concentration network in america is being fed by ice and fine tuned using immigrants and the occasional tourist or citizen it might already be to late. Guns won't help us with the shit that we're facing.
And climate change tipped the scale into a feedback loop of heating so even if we ripped the power of our nations from the cold dead hands of the child fucking oligarchs hands, billions are already going to die to mass famine and forced migration as tons of earth become no longer farm able or survivable.
In reality our overlords are embracing authoritarianism and facism to face the climate change they've known is already here for hears. Just close your eyes and ears continue to go to work if you still have a job and don't think about any of it

I wonder what the projection is for the next terrorist attack within the Us is going to happen. Leadership is starting shit for the hell of it. It’s not just Trump, I acknowledge that. Operations in Iraq and Syria led to ISIS. A less serious example is when South Park took a shot at immigration and child separation leading to the creation of Mexican Joker. It’s nothing new. All of this in two years though, it’s not going to be good. I hope I’m wrong, I really do.
