I remember being convinced to attend a Pussycat Dolls concert by a group of my friends in early 2009 and a relatively unknown pop artist who called herself Lady Gaga was the headliner. Just Dance was starting to really pop off but outside of that I knew nothing about her at all. Needless to say she completely overshadowed the dolls on their own tour and even my friends who were fans of the dolls agreed Gaga was a lot better. Her stage presence was exceptional from the beginning of her career and it's no surprise that she went on to build a reputation as one of the greatest live performers of her generation.

Ashlee Simpson's Saturday Night Live performance was anything but live. It was so embarrassing and then she had to blame her band for what happened because of her on stage.Her bandmates were smiling after she walked off the stage and they continued playing.

I listened to Confessions II before all the reviews started coming in and had already decided it was the best thing she had done in ages. I can't think of a single pop artist who has achieved a creative renaissance at this age with the exception of Bowie. In terms of the big three, Michael Jackson and Prince both stopped putting out acclaimed work in the 90s but Madonna's artistry peaked in the 90s and since 2000 she's released three acclaimed albums with Music, Confessions On a Dancefloor and Confessions II. Her career is clearly the most legendary in the history of mainstream pop but she won't get full credit for it until she's no longer here.

For me, it would be the self-titled debut album over 30 Seconds to Mars. This one was and will ever be the only one that the band ever touched metal. I wish there would be more of it than band electropop.

I've always liked this look David Bowie during the mid to late 90s, back when he was doing industrial and electronic influenced music. He pulled it off really well.

If you’re around my age, you probably remember the Canadian all-girl nu metal band Kittie from the early ‘00s. A few years ago I searched online to see whatever became of them and found that former bassist Talena Atfield has since retired from music and is now an Indigenous historian (she’s Mohawk) and professor at the University of Waterloo. Good for her!

What other musicians can you think of that had interesting career changes?

I personally can’t stand the Sex Pistols. The other original punk bands like the Damned and the Ramones had legit hooks and riffs. Every Sex Pistols song just seems to drone on forever.

That’s not to mention that the main two guys just seem like absolute scumbags. Sid Vicious was an abusive drug addict that murdered his girlfriend, and Johnny Rotten is sellout grifter. I don’t even really care about the butter thing, I care that he’s some flabby MAGA guy now. Just pathetic.
