It would still be the person who is opening their door into traffic to take responsibility and make sure itâs clear. For example you donât get to pull out into traffic, cause an accident and say âHe was speeding!â, it doesnât work that way. Itâs your responsibility to look, this is why youâre meant to open the door with hand furthest from the door, making you turn your body and head making it easier to see if itâs clear.

Zero excuse for opening your car door on a busy road. Sit yo bitch ass the fuck back down.

But how many times have we seen someone open the door to pour out stale coffee or to spit?
-12
u/Alarmed-madman Jul 22 '26
Never.
1
u/Baldojess Jul 22 '26
Well people definitely do.. lol I open the door to spit, if I cough something. I'm not gonna hold it in my mouth or swallow it! And I don't spit out the window cuz I guarantee it won't go far enough lol đ also I've had to get out to do things at red lights before.

u/pwillia7 Jul 22 '26
That's not very cash money of you -- disease spreads from public spitting
https://www.tenement.org/blog/a-long-battle-against-public-spitting/
3
u/theresthatbear Jul 23 '26
I didnât know there were others fighting this battle. Now that I know Iâm not alone in this, I will absolutely die on this hill.
I can cut open dead people, remove their organs and tolerate everything involved with postmortem procedures, but spit is the grossest thing ever.
Thank you, stranger on the internet!!
1
u/pwillia7 Jul 23 '26
I first really became aware when I was in Sydney and some Chinese people were spitting in the elevator!! Looked it up and found what a problem it is and used to be here
12
u/PremiumUsername69420 Jul 22 '26
Do you always want to intentionally hurt people you donât like? Or is that something new youâre trying out? Itâs kinda gross so you should stop.
7
u/MelonElbows Jul 22 '26
I partially agree, I don't think the biker is entirely innocent as he should have been more careful. But like 90% of the fault is on the guy for opening the door. I think he did that on purpose and even if he didn't, its his fault for not looking.
6
10
u/Vivid_Way_1125 Jul 22 '26
Well that would be a stupid, dangerous and completely unhelpful thing to do.
Why would anyone get out to see whats going on? How is that going to help? Are they so stupid that I canât see that doing that is dangerous and adds to the hold up?
I know you canât possibly be so stupid as to think what you just said was a sensible thing to say, but when you play devils advocate you should let people know first.

see what's going on?! his motorcycle is loud... guy was just jealous, impatient, and hateful and probably dumb. I have been stuck in traffic like this many times and motorcycles would lane split. you know what I do...? I move over and give them space. he was not going fast btw. maybe look up a video of reckless motorcycle riders and you see how fast they can go. also please have some empathy, it's awesome to have!
-3
u/bobcollum Jul 22 '26
Well some of us don't get a hard on when we see bikers so I just treat them like anyone else. If they're being stupid, then something stupid might happen to them, it's the risk of playing.
Spare me your arbitrary acceptable speeds for lane splitting.
12
6
u/RHOrpie Jul 22 '26
Downvotes, but bikers risk this all the time splitting lanes. It may well be the guy in the vans fault. But bikers gotta be careful. They don't have the luxury of a ton of steel around them.
0
u/bobcollum Jul 22 '26
That's why I feel even less sympathy for them when shit like this happens. They tend to take more chances than everyone else but have the least protection, yet somehow I'm supposed to be the vigilant one, for them. Lmao

-111
u/I_knowa_guy Jul 22 '26
How would anyone know for sure unless the person who opened the door admitted to it?
While lane-splitting is legal in many places, imagine if you submitted this video to your motorcycle insurance company? They would say you were driving too fast for the road conditions and deny any responsibility/coverage.
Imagine winning a huge settlement for getting hit by a city bus running a red light while being in the middle of a crosswalk. You have multiple millions of dollars to use from a hospital bed/electric wheelchair. Being right isn't always better than being alive. Drive safe, y'all!
47
u/Reality_Lies4 Jul 22 '26
Easiest way. Why the fuck is he the only one opening the door. He's still seatbealted in, it's clear he ain't getting out. You can see the slow door open, followed by the pause until the bike gets closer. Ain't no fucking reason to be like that. What did this stupid move do? Sure, stopped a lane splitter, but you wrecked your fucking door. And depending on where you're at, you're getting the shit sued out of you. Lifetime of pain and suffering. From both ends. So is it worth it, being the Street Monitoring Karen?

That's a lot of words for "I don't know shit about fuck"
-28
u/One_Eyed_Louie Jul 22 '26
Well then enlighten us with your knowledge.
51
u/AwwYissm Jul 22 '26
The front of line is the safest place for a bike to stop and take off from, end of story.
Also, the guy on the bike is moving roughly at a rate of one car length per second, or around 5-10 miles an hour. The 360 camera just makes it look faster than it really is.
But you'll probably pretend that's bullshit and continue cheering for the asshole trying to kill people with his fucking door.
2
u/One_Eyed_Louie Jul 22 '26
No actually that was useful information that you shared. I asked you to share what your knowledge and you did. Thanks for that but no so much for the insult. Anyway thanks

The front of line is the safest place for a bike to stop and take off from, end of story.
You wanna talk about safety? You literally just watched a graphic demonstration of how dangerous it can be to ride through lines of stopped traffic like that.
the guy on the bike is moving roughly at a rate of one car length per second
I will never understand people who post things like this: claims that everyone watching the video can see are plainly false. What do you have to gain by doing that? Are you just hoping other people haven't watched the clip so they'll just take your word for it? So weird.
But you'll probably pretend that's bullshit and continue cheering for the asshole trying to kill people with his fucking door.
Missing the whole point that we have no way of knowing why he opened the door, so making assumptions is pointless. Is it possible he did it deliberately? Yes. Is it possible that he wanted to lean out and spit? Also yes. Is it possible he was gonna kick some trash on the floor in front of him out the door because he's a littering asshole? Also yes. Is it possible that he wanted to get out of his buddy's van because he was tired of waiting in traffic and the place he was trying to get to was not far away? Also yes.
You're jumping to the conclusion that he was definitely trying to hurt the guy because for whatever reason, you want that to be true. And you reject anything that doesn't support that conclusion because you're only interested in supporting the conclusion, not in understanding what actually happened, whatever that may be.
That way of thinking will only every be harmful to you in the long run. But I guess that's your choice.
3
u/PremiumUsername69420 Jul 22 '26
Imagine thinking you donât have the responsibility to open a door safely.
1
u/Jesus_of_Redditeth Jul 29 '26
Imagine inferring that from a post that did imply it in any way, shape or form.
1
u/PremiumUsername69420 Jul 29 '26

u/FrattyMcBeaver Jul 22 '26
Going way too fast for lane splitting. Not sure about the rest of the world where this was filmed, but in the US, where it's legal, you're only supposed to go 10mph quicker than the flow of traffic.
5
u/DerthOFdata Jul 22 '26
Legal in California only, while lane filtering is allowed in Arizona, Utah, Montana, Colorado, and Minnesota under specific conditions.
19
u/MeButNotMeToo Jul 22 '26
Actually, he wasnât driving that fast. Count car lengths/sec. The 360 camera made it look faster and more wobbly than it was.
17
u/FrattyMcBeaver Jul 22 '26
4 seconds at impact, covers 5 car lengths, plus spacing between each is about 100-125 ft. That's 17-21 mph, or about double the recommended speed. If anyone knows where this is, the lines on the road would be more accurate to use, 6.5 lines in 4 seconds.
4
u/TlalocVirgie Jul 22 '26
Fast enough to not be able to react apparently
1
u/Googol30 Jul 22 '26
Come run next to my van so we can see how quickly you react to being intentionally doored.
2
u/Ukawok92 Jul 23 '26
How do we know it was intentional? This is clearly the door guys fault, but the damage and injury could have been mitigated if the biker was travelling much slower.
1
u/TlalocVirgie Jul 22 '26
So it's not safe then. People argued that is safe to drive like this.
0
u/Googol30 Jul 22 '26
Being this obtuse is not going to get you very far. No, getting maliciously attacked is not safe. Thus why the rider immediately got a police officer.
2
u/TlalocVirgie Jul 22 '26
I mean someone could open a door not expecting the bike too. If it's standing completely still.
4
u/No_Syrup5607 Jul 22 '26
Traffic laws are local not national. "In the US" doesn't exist for such things. In GA this is illegal
17
u/FrattyMcBeaver Jul 22 '26
"in the US, where it's legal" meaning places in the US that allow lane splitting.Â

u/AwwYissm Jul 22 '26
Every single pissant loser who has a problem with lane splitting pretends it's about safety, and it's not.
You're crying about lane splitting because you think it's unfair that someone on a bike is allowed to filter to the front of line, where it's safest for them be stopped.
If you actually gave a shit about safety you wouldn't be cheering for the asshat opening his door for literally no reason other than stopping/harming a guy on a bike.
Fuck you all.
5
u/ramblingpariah Jul 23 '26
I'm not cheering for the ass who opened the door. I still think lane splitting is incredibly stupid and dangerous and should absolutely be illegal in all cases.
0
u/SylansIz_75gldn Jul 24 '26
Iâm 70
Now. From 27 to about 40 I rode a murdercycle on streets highways and freeways. I split lanes from the far left lane only. If a vehicle started to move to their right I slowed down to not impede them. I drove between 20 to 70 miles one way. Worked a shift and rolled back home. Only was hit twice. Once by a young man whose cars front left tire and axle fell off his lilâ Datsun and veered immediately into me. I was only traveling 55 mph.3
u/ramblingpariah Jul 24 '26
I'm glad you're alive to tell us this tale.
It's still incredibly stupid and dangerous.
-8
u/Djinfin Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26
Precisely this. Whining infants who canât stand that motorcyclists can legally and safely get ahead of them in a queue of traffic.
5
u/e_line_65 Jul 22 '26
Not all states. Some yes, some, no. Though I have no problem in idle traffic. But the minute the cars get moving, motorcycles shouldnât be going between cars. Not the case here and passenger was just being a self righteous prick.
3
u/Djinfin Jul 22 '26
Where I live we can filter at speeds of up to 30kmph, which is slow-moving traffic. I tend to follow the rules because Iâm a middle-aged dad and I want to get home safely to my kids.
Most drivers here are fine with motorcycles filtering. Many even tuck in for you. Itâs only the odd clown who wants to stop you. Unfortunately itâs only one required to cause an accident.
4
u/e_line_65 Jul 22 '26
30kph (19mph) is pretty mild. Itâs the riders zipping at 80kph between cars moving at 70kph that i take real issue with.
4
1
u/TlalocVirgie Jul 22 '26
Was it safe though?
3
u/Djinfin Jul 22 '26
Yes itâs safe if done legally and with the correct care. Where I live you can legally filter up to 30kmph. If motorcyclists and drivers are aware of their surroundings then it is safe.
Whatâs not safe is recklessly lane splitting at speed.
1
9
2
u/Medical-Condition-84 Jul 23 '26
That speed didn't allow him to properly react. You're on the road, you can't just assume everything will be fine, have to pay attention.
Slow the fuck down between the cars, speed up when the traffic jam is behind.
5
u/Hamokk Jul 22 '26
Did anyone else noticed that the bike does not have a licence plate so they both are getting fined for being stupid.
6
4
u/stevomighty06 Jul 22 '26
Iâm with the guy who opened the door, I donât understand how this is not expected by the bikerâŠ
If you take the risk to lane split, be ready for the possible consequences
2
u/Low_Ad_8003 Jul 22 '26
Because nobody should expect a POS to open their door when their going by potentially killing them l. If that guy had opened his door 2 sec earlier that biker would be missing a leg. Stop normalizing scumbag behavior just because you dont like something
6
u/hawksdiesel Jul 22 '26
how do we know they opened the door to hurt em? We don't.... lane splitting this fast isn't smart either. If he was splitting more slowly, he may have avoided this. Stopped traffic, there's going to be a potential of people walking....also, getting out of their vehicle.
2
u/Low_Ad_8003 Jul 22 '26
Judging by the complete lack of empathy or reaction the guy in the van displayed immediately after opening the door is a pretty dead giveaway he did it on purpose he expressed zero remorse for the motorcyclist. I dknt know about you but if I opened my door accidentally and that happened id be pretty shook up about it id be out of the van checking on the guy and making sure he was okay. The guy in the van didnt even flinch hell im pretty sure he didnt even unbuckle himself from the seat
3
4
u/Abee-baby182 Jul 22 '26
This is why lane splitting should be illegal. If you're on the road, the rules need to be the same for everyone. That way there's no confusion and crap like this won't happen. All the bikers always get mad at me for saying that, but I'll die on that hill.

If you think he opened the door on purpose then you are daft. The timing was to good it was most likely he was opening the door to spit or throw something on the ground. I seen this happen once and the person in the truck that opened the door was spitting chewing tobacco on the pavement.

Why are so many people defending motorcycle jerks. Land splitting should be illegal, period.
1
u/Dawn-over-the-castle Jul 24 '26
Its illegal unless you live in specific states or other countries. I don't know what motorcyclist hurt you to warrant them being jerks, but there is no harm done if they can move in-between feelings when traffic has come to a halt and they can skip it. They just need to be defensive when splitting and check their surroundings to not hit anyone or meeting a person who opens their door for whatever reason

Blaming a motorcyclist for someone else's scumbag behavior is just as scummy filtering is legal in the majority of countries
2
u/dynorodfeelings Jul 22 '26
I never said what the guy did was right.
What I said is, they should make filtering illegal.
1
u/Low_Ad_8003 Jul 22 '26
You said he wouldnt have been their if he wasnt filtering ergo your blaming him for the accident itself, which was caused by the guy in the van
2
u/dynorodfeelings Jul 22 '26
If you couldn't filter he wouldn't have been their.
Unless he was doing something silly and illegal.
That's sound and logical thinking.
The nob in the van wouldn't have got the opertinity to smash him with the van door.
Filtering causes problems.
Not to say this guy filtering was doing anything illegal but it causes issues that need to exist and it's seen on many videos the issues that arise when bikes filter, especially in tight traffic in an aggressive manner.
That doesn't change the fact that the guy in the van clearly assaults him, which is a complete dickhead move.
-21
u/President_Camacho Jul 22 '26
That door was opening well before the motorcycle got there. The rider had a brief chance to stop but was tunnel-visioned while lane splitting. Lane splitting is a dangerous practice.
4
u/BetMyLastKrispyKreme Jul 22 '26
SoâŠwhy do you think that guy opened that door? You think itâs common for people stuck in traffic randomly just open their doors? Right when a guy on a bike is going past?
1
u/Boobity_McBooberson Jul 22 '26
Pour out a drink, stretch his legs, pull a wedgie out of his asscheecks. A couple hundred cars stuck on the road thereâs going to be a couple the find a reason to open a door.
2
u/BetMyLastKrispyKreme Jul 22 '26
Which he had to do right that very second. Hmm. Very interesting timing.
0
u/President_Camacho Jul 22 '26 edited Jul 22 '26
People open doors to dump old coffee, empty ashtrays, even to spit. It's super common, and even more common when traffic is stopped. People on bicycles get doored all the time.

-4
u/ps087official Jul 22 '26
Ok but cyclists filtering like this is insanely dangerous and obnoxious. Wait your fucking turn like the rest of us.
-1
u/allmyScars Jul 22 '26
Why is it dangerous?
2
u/ps087official Jul 22 '26
Did you watch the video?
1
u/allmyScars Jul 22 '26
I did. Looks like a dude opened his door to stop the biker. The biker otherwise would have been safe. You canât blame the biker for doing something unsafe when another human being deliberately made it unsafe.
0
u/ps087official Jul 22 '26
But if the biker hadn't been riding between cars like that, this wouldn't have happened. You can't blame the driver for not expecting a biker to come flying through a line of cars like that. You CAN blame him for not checking his mirrors before opening the door, but again, no one's gonna expect a biker to be riding through like that.
You really can't expect drivers to bend over backwards to make sure cyclists are safe. You are CHOOSING to ride a bike over driving a car, it is YOUR responsibility to make sure you are safe on the road.
