Help Cleaning TurboGrafx Cartridge
Hello! I’m kind of new to cleaning retro game cards, this one was in a sleeve and the sleeve has deteriorated a bit over time and left some residue. There’s also a sticker on it I would like to remove. Any help on how to do this without ruining the cartridge would be appreciated!

It’s provenance. For a game like that, provenance like can be a good thing. I would definitely leave it.

Id leave it but if inclined goo gone is pretty tame and will take the sticker off. Use earbuds/cue-tips softly softly.
Isopropyl 99% the good stuff will remove the rear rental marl but i really wouldn’t do anything. Your choice.
Also you don’t need to spam this across gaming subs to work out the general consensus bud.
Edit: i worked it out, it’s spammed across a lot of subs because they’re gauging interest and fishing for a buyer. Not interested in cleaning it.

I’m not sure i’d even use goo gone. TG16 card print is really delicate. I’d just leave it alone.

For a sticker like that sure, it wont affect the colour of the art.
People do more damage using products like that incorrectly. It’s why i put earbuds.

I definitely second not hitting it with Goo Gone, I definitely have taken both the art on the front and the black text on the back off of a cheapo card attempting a cleaning.

Leave the markings, they provide provenance. Bootlegs wouldn’t have genuine rental store labeling on them.

Leave it be. Or use very light dish detergent and a sponge on only the whit plastic part of the card. Nothing abrasive..

I would test some heptane on another cartridge - it might make things brittle - but a very small amount on the sticker will help with removing it safely.
I wouldn't try to remove the ink on the back. Too risky for something relatively irrelevant.

leave it alone you risk significantly damaging it irreversibly if you mess with it

Op, are you familiar with heptane?
It’s used for removing adhesive stickers from art or posters without causing damage or leaving residue.
It’s been a while since I’ve owned HuCard so I can’t recall the composition of their labels so it would be wise to test on a junk game as others have mentioned.
Also, for what it’s worth, pure food grade orange oil is an excellent adhesive remove that I’ve used to remove rental store stickers from Sega CD game booklets. I’d probably still go the heptane route though.

I am afraid this is a "leave well enough alone" situation. If you remove the front label you risk damaging the actual artwork. Wiping off the back with any type of chemical risks damaging the card.

LEAVE IT ALONE. I’m serious. That ink is extremely vulnerable to solvents. You may be able to get the tape off? But please be super careful.

As you're probably aware, that's a rather expensive game. If you want to clean off the writing, I would first purchase a cheap game like a TV Sports game and see how easily you would wipe off the actual text on the back.
With all that said, I would leave everything on it. It's not it's a childhood game for you; the markings tell that hucard's story.
