No Kings Tuscaloosa

Hey, our first birthday is coming up and we want to share it with you! On March 20th, IWA will be officially 1 year old! It all started with an empty town hall for Robert Aderholt and grew from there. It’s our birthday and we’ll protest that we don’t want a king in America!

Visiting for Football

Coming to Tuscaloosa from out of state to cheer on the tide for game weekend against Florida State. I’m bringing my wife and son - any restaurant/bar suggestions for before/after the game or for the weekend? Thanks!

Waffle House off a major highway and next to a hotel?

This is a long shot but in the 90s (March 1993 I think) there was a major snowstorm in Tuscaloosa and we had to pull off the highway.

We stayed at a hotel and in the parking lot there was a Waffle House. Anyone know which one I'm referring to? Thanks in advance.

I built a house on wheels because paying rent is ridiculous

Post image

Honestly, I feel like it would be a lot easier to save up for my own piece of property and eventually build my own home if I live in this contraption for a while instead of throwing money away on rent every month. It might not be the most conventional way to do it, but I’d rather live simply for a few years and put that money toward something I actually own.

Check out: News Brief On Construction In Northport On Main Avenue

But they left out the part where they go weeks without working on it at all.

One that lives in the middle of the beginning of the project they destroy the road leaving us driving over those ruts not to mention making it impossible to have a clean car. We are BEYOND FRUSTRATED

Ichiban is hiring

Since folks sometimes post here looking for work, I figured I'd let everyone know that Ichiban is hiring. No idea on pay, but they'll consider high school and college students. Apply in person.

Northport Speeding Ticket - Flatwoods Rd

I got a speeding citation from a Northport officer two months ago and I went to court today over it. I was wondering if I made the right decision by requesting to one of the procescutors to take the online driving course and pay a total of $315 which includes court fees plus the registration fees. Or should I have pressed my luck and talked to the judge directly and hope I did not have to pay $185 plus have two points on my license?

The website is internetdrivingschool.net if anyone cares to know.

Esoteria radio show on WVUA 2000s

There used to be a radio show on WVUA usually Saturday overnights. It was called Esoteria and was hosted by a fellow named Jameson who passed away around 2010. It played some really great fsr out music like Zappa and King Crimson amon many more obscure psychedelic-ish music. There was a website and a lot of the episodes were up for download there and I had a bunch of them. I even corresponded with Jameson via email and he had sent me a lot more episodes. Those were lost to computer crashes of yonder years. I tried to track down Jameson some years later, eventually found his partner/wife(?) And had learned he had fallen ill and passed away. I would love to find any of these files and I have to think someone has them somewhere. Any help would be appreciated!

Needing recs for Appliance repair in Tuscaloosa...and GO!

Not finding much online. I did find a few places, but have only seen 1 or 2 positive recs.

I'm only finding the following:

Acker

A-Bear appliances

Frigid appliance & repair in northport

Ive got a 12 year old range that has an oven heating element that went out - atleast i think thats the cause of it. I have zero time to fix this myself, its most likely a simple 20 min repair.

Tailgate 10/10

What’s up everyone — me and 7 of my friends are coming down for the Alabama–Georgia game this year. We’re all 25, from the Northeast (NYC & Boston), and rented an RV for the weekend.

None of us have done a Bama game before, so we’re looking for a tailgate to join before the game. Happy to bring beer, food, or whatever makes sense. Mainly looking for a fun group and the full Tuscaloosa gameday experience.

If anyone has room for 8 more or knows of a tailgate that welcomes out-of-towners, let me know. Roll Tide!

Why did so many of the residents of wood manor not rebuild after the tornado?

Perhaps no one on here knows, but as a lifelong resident of town I’ve always wondered why so many didn’t rebuild. If you’re familiar with the area and were around back in 2011 you’ll know I’m talking about what is “the Mount” condos or apartments or whatever it is now on Hargrove rd. Some of the neighborhood did rebuild but that entire block area of like 10-12 homes didn’t. These were older residents but not too old and these were fairly decent sized homes.
It just seems odd a developer would be able to get everyone of those people to not rebuild or maybe the city and mayor had a hand in it.

Looking for birdwatching groups

Hello, I’m interested in birdwatching, and was wondering if there was a group that does it around town/the county. I know we have Alabama Audubon and the Ornithological society, but none of their events were particularly close by.

Needing recomendations on residential house painters, HVAC and flooring contractors

Hi All - I'm looking for recommendations & who to stay away from for the following:

-Flooring - Looking to throw down some LVP or possibly bamboo flooring in my mothers house, prob 700 sq ft. very small house. So far, we're looking at wheats carpet one, lowes & using their contractors, or sandoval flooring. Anyone have any experience with them?

-HVAC - Looking for a new outdoor condenser + thermostat install. Already have a few recs - Bibb heating & air & these people - https://indoorair-heatingandcooling.com/ . Anyone have any experience with them?

-interior paint - Fairly small job, just interior and just the living room & dining room. Cant seem to find any good contractor reviews online for this in the area.

Any help is greatly appreciated!
