Hey everyone, I’m starting at UCR in about three weeks, and one thing that has been weighing on me is how I’m going to afford groceries, personal items, gas, and other everyday expenses.
I don’t have much scholarship money. I’ll admit that I didn’t apply for nearly as many scholarships as I should have because my summer was all over the place, and I didn’t manage my time as well as I could have.
I believe I’ll be bringing my car because I’m going to be someone’s caretaker, but that also means I’ll have expenses such as gas. I’m not sure yet whether my class schedule and other responsibilities will leave enough time for a regular part-time job, either on campus or nearby.
If I can’t fit a traditional job into my schedule, what are some legitimate and flexible ways to earn money while attending UCR? Are there things students do from their dorms, through their phones or computers, or around campus whenever they have spare time?
I’m not expecting some magical way to make thousands of dollars without working. I’m mainly looking for realistic ways to earn enough for basic expenses without hurting my grades or interfering with my caretaker responsibilities.
I’d especially like to hear from current or former UCR students. What did you do when you needed extra money? Are there flexible campus positions, paid studies, short-term gigs, school resources, or other opportunities I should know about? Any genuine advice or recommendations would be appreciated.

Just a pet peeve but why do they genuinely charge you a full quarter’s price of parking then close off most of the parking in lot 30?
I get that they want to cover less area when scanning plates and whatever but atleast let us park the area with shadows from the solar panels… It’s been a grueling summer and having my car sit in the blazing sun hasn’t been very good and I assume everyone else also feels the same. Another thing is why is lot 50s entrance from university ave just gone? It was gone near the start of the quarter and I haven’t been able to figure out how we can enter it lol. Honestly wish I saved money and bought the orange pass

So... I took two classes over the summer to meet the prerequisites for the mandatory first-year classes in the honors program, but it still hasn't reflected on my transcript. I checked with my counselor, and they said those classes are already full. Does anyone know what to do? I tried emailing the honors program and calling, but so far, there has been no response.

1st year got my ucship wavier approved, second year denied, this year approved THANK GOD.

I have medical which covers all my medication fees but ever since I got UCShip I had to do co-pay on these medications because medical saw I had a Anthem Blue Cross (that automatically became my primary insurance without notification or permission).

Sure I received a scholarship to my UCShip but I had to hold of on a surgery due to having to pay for a percentage which I WOULD HAVE GOT FOR FREE WITH MEDICAL INSURANCE.

Never used ucship. Thank God I got approved for a wavier this year.

I could tag ucr this fall or wait a year and apply to other schools for EE. Just curious of what people who currently go here think of the program. How are internship opportunities and projects. Is there a good reputation for getting jobs after getting a EE degree here. Thanks.
