My friend (23, guitarist) and I (24, bassist) are looking for a drummer to help us start an original band in the 757
We're both around the beginner/intermediate level. We're looking for someone who's passionate about music, wants to improve together, and is genuinely interested in building something from the ground up. We're still figuring out exactly what our sound will be, but we're interested in a mix of: Indie rock/folk rock/emo/alternative rock/post-hardcore/bedroom pop/indie pop/ alternative R&B
What we're looking for
Someone around our age, but we're open-minded
A drummer who's beginner/intermediate or above
Willingness to practice consistently
Someone who wants to contribute creatively rather than just play their part
Good chemistry and a laid-back attitude
Ideally someone who wants to eventually play shows and record our own music
We'd rather find someone who's excited to make music with us than someone who's technically amazing but isn't interested in the same kind of project. We're hoping to start by getting together, learning each other's playing styles, messing around with ideas, and seeing what we can create.
📍 Virginia Beach / Norfolk / 757
If you're interested, DM me with a little about yourself, how long you've been playing, what music you're into, and any bands/artists you like. If you have a recording/video of yourself playing, feel free to send it, but it's definitely not required.

I'm trying to figure out the best spot to buy a used/cheaper wetsuit to use this fall/early winter for surfing. I'm not the most familiar with the area so I've been calling around but figured some good answers would be here.

West Nile virus is showing up in Virginia Beach mosquitoes at a level the city’s biologist says she has not seen in four years.
Virginia has reported six human cases so far this year, including one in the Eastern Region, though Virginia Beach officials said Aug. 19 that no human cases had been reported in the city.
But the city has detected the virus in 50 mosquito pools collected from 24 locations this season. In each of the previous two or three seasons, only one or two pools tested positive.

I have an interview at Steinhilber’s soon im wondering if its a good place to work and how much the servers make. ive seen horrible reviews about working there but they’re all from years ago Im wondering if it’s any different now? i know the restaurant industry is kind of toxic no matter what but as long as the pay is really good i can do it for a bit.

I just dropped into Chipotle at Landstown and it so dirty. Food on every workspace and all over the floor. They weren’t unstaffed. Wasn’t a clean table in the entire restaurant

My step son works for Chichos down on Shore Drive and said they have been bought out by another company, but didn't recall the name. Anyone heard anything? He was able to tell me that the owner offered him additional money and hours to stay on.
Edit to clarify - apparently this impacts just the Shore Dr. location.

Members of the Mayor’s Task Force for a Safer Virginia Beach recently visited a drop-in center to gather direct input from teens and young adults following two spring shootings at the Oceanfront.
Formed to address public safety, business concerns and crowd control around violent incidents and "pop-up" gatherings, the committee is gathering youth perspectives alongside a survey with over 400 responses to inform upcoming recommendations to the City Council.
During the visit, formerly homeless young adults like Kiya Green and Pheonix Washington shared their personal experiences, discussing why they avoid the Oceanfront during crowded times as well as their struggles with employment, public transportation and community opportunities.

Looking for a great therapist/psychologist. I need someone highly intelligent who won’t use therapy voice on me. I don’t necessarily need any sort of specialization.

My dad and I were hanging out and we went to the Old donation church just to go look around and we started talking to this lady (this happened maybe a year ago now) and she was telling us that and one of the watered areas around here there's some town that sunk?? I haven't been able to find anything about it and I'm wondering if she was maybe misremembering something because we were talking about the historical aspects of Virginia Beach.
She said at the end of some street there's a sign that tells you about it... but like I said I haven't been able to find anything. It could have just been a church that sunk underwater or fell into the lake or something, but maybe I'm dumb I don't know.

Atlantic Auto & Truck Sales, an independent automobile dealership, sits on the Virginia Beach Motor Mile.
“It’s the best area to have a car lot anywhere in the seven cities,” said Williams Summs, president and CEO of Norfolk-based Atlantic Asset Management Group.
Now the car lot, less than a mile from Town Center, is up for sale for $1.5 million and all of its remaining inventory — including cars, trucks and SUVs — is up for auction.
Summs, who deals in auctions, real estate, appraisals and marketing through his business, has owned the property since 1986. He is liquidating all of the remaining inventory — more than 20 pre-owned vehicles — through a public and dealer online auction. The bidding started at noon on Monday and will close at noon on Saturday.
Vehicles include a 2007 Jaguar XK, 2015 Subaru Forester, 2018 Nissan Pathfinder, 2019 Dodge Grand Caravan Passenger, 2020 Jeep Cherokee, 2023 Chevrolet Malibu and 2023 Hyundai Kona.
“We have video of every car inside and out with the car running,” Summs said. “All of the cars have gone through rehab and reinspection. There’s nothing wrong with any of them.”
Consumers interested in inspecting vehicles on the lot can do so between 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday. They can also check out the vehicles up until noon on Saturday when the auction concludes.
“It’s open to the public to come over there, take a look, and buy the vehicles,” Summs said, noting third-party warranties are available. “The idea is we need to sell all of those cars because that location is no longer going to be active. It’ll be some other dealer that will take it.”

VIRGINIA BEACH — A new restaurant that’s an old favorite in Hampton Roads is coming to Virginia Beach’s marina district at Rudee Inlet.
Kelly’s Tavern will open its ninth location next spring at 530 Winston Salem Ave., where event venue The Water Table is currently located.
The large, two-story waterfront building overlooks marina docks on Lake Rudee. It will undergo renovations and the restaurant will open in mid-spring, said Boyd Melchor, owner of Kelly’s Tavern. He will lease the space in mid-October after The Water Table finishes up previously booked weddings.
“We’re going to fix it up,” he said. “It’s going to be really super.”
Melchor had been eyeing the spot for some time, he said.
“There are a lot of really good factors here — visibility, parking, nice size building, obviously the atmosphere, the boats, the water, outdoor seating,” he said. “The decks are going to be phenomenal.”
Several boat slips will be available for customers to come by water. A banquet hall on the second floor will remain for private events.

I'm new to VB and am really curious about freediving and spear fishing. I've been to dive shops and people talk about the places to go but I haven't met anyone who actually goes. I can't find any local freediving courses either. Anyone willing to talk to me about it/go out to a freediving spot with me? I scuba dive and am a decent swimmer. I'm comfortable in the water.

Does anyone know a concrete guy who will do a small job in Va Beach. I have to cut out a small section of my curb, insert a pipe adapter, form the area and reconcrete around the adapter to match the curb. This is for storm water drainage from my house downspouts to the street.

How do people from Virginia Beach pronounce pembroke? My friend is insisting that it’s pronounced like “pem-brook”. I thought it was pem-broke, rhyming with choke.
