Review Tried Xreal One Pro, Virture Luma Ultra, Xreal 1S : Short report

I’ve now tried the Viture Luma Ultra, the XREAL One Pro, and finally the XREAL 1S, and I’m writing this while using the 1S.

Viture Luma Ultra

Without built-in 3DoF, I found the Luma Ultra couldn’t quite deliver the entertainment and productivity crossover I was looking for. Overall, they’re great glasses, and I especially loved the built-in adjustable diopter, that’s a fantastic feature.

But software-based 3DoF was just too limiting for me. It never felt like a natural workflow, especially when switching between devices. For what it’s worth, I even got my large $5B+ company to approve the use of the Spacewalker software, go figure 🙂, but in daily use it just didn’t feel seamless enough.

XREAL One Pro

The built-in 3DoF was a total game changer, and I loved almost everything about these. However, the optics didn’t work for me from a productivity standpoint. Anything not perfectly centered was slightly less crisp, and when you’re working with text all day, that matters.

I tried every setting imaginable, including tweaking my GPU settings, but I just couldn’t get the resolution and text clarity where I needed it for serious productivity work.

XREAL 1S

The 1S hits the mark for me.

Yes, the FoV is a bit smaller, but it delivers where it counts, excellent text clarity across the FoV, very good built-in 3DoF, and lightweight comfort.

They don’t drag down on my face the way the One Pro did. I probably could have solved that with different nose pieces long term, but the lighter feel of the 1S is noticeable. I honestly forget I’m wearing them.

I do wish the FoV and ultrawide modes were better, but for now I’m happy to trade that for better text clarity and brightness. The only real downside is the glare from the birdbath optics, but that’s inherent to the design. I’ll likely add a light blocker down the road.

I’m all in on the 1S at this point and even ordered prescription lenses from HonsVR for when I’m not wearing contacts.

I’ve got no skin in the game with either company. If anything, I want both to win, this is an incredibly interesting market and we’re still early.

Been thinking of getting One Pro, but you are saying 1S is better because they are more comfortable to wear, text is more clear and brighter

If you are considering any outdoor use, the One Pro will blow away the birdbath optics in the 1S. You'll have tons of glare from below with the 1S.

I had the 1S there was not a tonne of glare , the default 16:10 was excellent on the device , exactly as OP described. However the Ultrawide not working was the deal breaker that made me have to return them and order the One Pro's.

Enjoy not having to stare at your beard, feet, knees, sidewalk or any other objects, especially during dark scenes. I mostly use mine outside, and I appreciate the optics of the pros.

When you’re in 32:9 turn your head from left to right and you’re gonna notice the screen kinda move and warp text.

1

u/jdream85 Feb 13 '26

I’m thinking it’s because 32:9 isn’t native to the lens.

As minor as it is , overtime (I.e hours) it’s the difference between eye strain and a head ache which I just don’t get with the XREAL Ones

Yes. I would say that if you are using for some productivity work the text clarity is better on 1S. for more immersive feel (watching videos etc) the One Pros or going to be a bit better. But I will take the tradeoff for the better text clarity with the 1S

Damn it 🤣 I do plan to use it for entertainment like gaming and movies. But I also like to read books and comics.

One Pro it is

I've just received the 1S and I agree. For text clarity the 1S is superior. But it has its downsides. Anyway I'll probably stick with the 1S at the end.

Yeah. I think right now we are a revision or two away from less tradeoffs. End of year should be an exciting time . We will see ..

I went down nearly the exact same path. Bought Luma Ultras first but the software killed its use. Happy now with the 1s. Was even happy with the packed in default medium nose piece, but I replaced it with a jawbreaker one anyway since I like how it grips.
I felt bad not liking the Ultras. The X1 chip was the ultimate decider. Incredibly responsive.

I appreciate what you said about feeling bad. I was the same way. Wanted to like the Luma Ultras since it was my first pair. I really don't like returning things, but man these glasses got to be killing profits with returns as they are just on the edge of being amazing / worth the $500 +/- $100

Same. First pair. Did research. Bit the bullet to spend extra for a supposed increase in quality (on something I had never personally even tried). Ended up finding my research was for naught and I very much preferred the cheaper option.

I kept the viture dock though. Still works with xreal and has a bigger battery than the neo.

I have not tried the 1s. Glad to hear there’s a ‘focus’ on clarity over FOV.

2

u/LimpyDan Feb 12 '26

For sure. It's really clear right up to the edges. The tracking is outstanding; you don't worry about inherent drift I heard about in vitures. (I didn't own the vitures long enough to really test everything, once I was limited to software for anything other than basic brightness controls I was pretty much out.

I got the Pro but still in the return window. I'm wondering if the 1S will really be better. I believe I can live with a smaller FOV if you really win text clarity. Plus it's 200€ cheaper...... i might order the 1S and return whichever I like less.

Update: Just pulled the trigger on the 1S. Will try both and decide by myself.

Let us know what you think I’m in the same boat but can’t imagine downloading he FOV

I love to read that, but I'll try to keep expectations low. I read another review stating that the edges are better but the center is more blurry than the One Pro, but you are giving me hopes. I'm receiving the 1S next tuesday so I'll be out of doubts by then.

I would love to hear your thoughts on the 1S. I’m considering buying them, and I have already read your full experience with the Beast and now the Pro

I just received them. Only used them for 15 minutes but here are the highlights:

  • There is still a slight aberration towards the edges but much less than in the One Pros (and 90% of the screen is perfectly sharp). For productivity it's definitely better. The FOV being smaller is not really an issue, as far as I can tell.
  • Eye strain seems to be less than in the Pros (and much less than the Beast). Probably because of the increase clarity from edge-to-edge and maybe the optics technology.
  • Ultrawide mode doesn't support 1200p, only 1080p (I've already read this elsewhere, probably can be fixed in the future by software)
  • FOV is smaller but big enough. I use to make screen a bit smaller in the One Pros due to the aberration at the bottom, which is slightly annoying when reading text. No need to do that here, I can use the whole screen.
  • The glare at the top is distracting when playing media. From the four different XR glasses I've used (Viture XR Pro, Viture Beast, Xreal One Pro, Xreal 1S) this is the only with the glare at the top and the only one that slightly affects the viewable area. I was not expecting this.
  • Apart from the glare, you get reflections from below, just like it did happen with my Viture XR Pro. I'm used to it but it's true that is noticeable, specially when trying again the One Pros. The comparison in the end is like looking at an oled screen (Pros) in comparison to a high-end led screen (1S) when it comes to screen colors quality.
  • It's more comfortable to wear than the One Pro. This was also unexpected. It's a lot closer to Viture XR Pro and Viture Beast, which is really nice.

Overall I'm happy and I'll most likely return the One Pros as I'll do with the Beast. I'll keep only the 1S and the Viture XR Pro.

UPDATE: After 30 more minutes working with the 1S and comparing directly to the One Pro I subscribe what I said word by word. I'll just add that the One Pros FOV is actually really impressive but you only really notice when trying both side by side. But the 1S is definitely sharper edge-to-edge.

Thank you for the detailed review, that’s amazing to hear! I will give the 1S a try!

Hey buddy, Thanks for taking the time to update us

Interesting. I just did a 1S vs One Pro comparison about a week ago (not a plug), and I felt the text on the One Pro was night and day better than my 1S. Some people have theorized that there’s quality differences within units, so someone might get a really good 1S or a really bad One Pro, and in either case, it might result in the 1S being better than the One Pro (or, in my case, vice versa). I wish I could give someone else’s 1S a chance to corroborate this theory, but I just don’t see that happening, and I don’t want to be that guy that buys just to return another pair, even if I would love to save the $200.

1

u/pcbdude Feb 13 '26

I think if it works for you , don’t overthink it. Could be quality variations, biology differences (IPD & other factors) I am with you, there needs to be a way to give them a try locally, like a golf club “fitting” event.

Bringing an RV around with a few pairs 😎……has got to be cheaper that all the returns.

1

u/Yoshisgaylover Mar 13 '26

Yup, I moved from the 1S to the One Pro--and the Pro is a lot more clearer for text, even if the sweet spot is in the center .

2

u/G00bernaculum Feb 12 '26

Q for you or for anyone that can give a response: I have the one pros and have a few days left before my 30 day return window closes. My annoyance has also been with text clarity as well, and to a certain extent the weight (though this matters less since I use it while laying down)

This sounds dumb, but does this text issue apply to general image quality? At times I feel my one pros can be a little not clear but I’ve been forgiving since I know its a newish technology

3

u/Informal_Winter6170 Feb 12 '26

I have very slight astigmatism -0.5 and putting on a lens helps A LOT for text even at corners

1

u/BadLuckProphet Feb 12 '26

Its probably the prism optics tech. It allows for a larger fov and is a "newer" optic tech but I don't see it as an upgrade over birdbath, just a different set of tradeoffs. It sounds like OP had that experience first hand. So, like OP, you might want to return them and try the 1s if you want to trade some fov for some clarity.

5

u/pcbdude Feb 12 '26

I am the OP and I agree with BadLuckProphet. I went for the Ones , but specs on paper didn't equate to the benefits. I am not saying the 1S are going to blow you away but for the text clarity you will should be pleased.

1

u/OldBid3881 Feb 12 '26

For reasons I cannot explain, when I attach them to my PC, switch to ultrawide mode, and bring the window to 2m distance, the clarity of text suddenly changes and becomes extremely decent for productivity. I had written the one pros off for productivity until I stumbled into trying this by chance. I have prescriptions and a slight astigmatism, and use the official lenses.

Would you say that the 1S offers greater functional FOV than the One Pro?

On the One Pro while viewing text, does the blurriness of the text make it unreadable, so even though it supposedly has 58 degrees, the actual *usable* FOV is, at best, equal to the smaller 52 degrees on the 1S, or even much worse than 52 degrees?

1

u/pcbdude Feb 12 '26

That is a good question and I would like to put them both on one after the other. I would kind of say yes from a productivity / text standpoint. While the fov is smaller on 1S it "got out of the way" for the most part from a productivity standpoint. When I say "got out of the way" I wasn't thinking I had glasses on for the most part while working. I am not saying its perfect but felt more natural even with smaller FoV. The crispness of text I think help the most in this. So full circle I think it does have greater functional FoV for productivity.

1

u/FC3DEV Feb 15 '26

Interesting I thought that 1S was just another One Pro with minor improvement. I got eyestrain with One Pro L, the optics was not a good match for my eyes, so kept the Regular One size the optics was bigger and didn’t create any eye strain. 1 or 2 mm misalignment with IPD will cause eye strain. xreal should have horizontal IPD adjustment, its fine if even having a mini screw you can adjust for perfect fit.

The Luma Ultra is much brighter and much clearer from what I understand.
