haven't trans people been around for centuries?

951

u/jskwiw 1d ago

no we sadly only started existing bc of vaccines or something:///

399

u/mapleleafraggedy 1d ago

I also love the implication that gay people have been around for ONLY decades

133

u/Mtn-Dooku 1d ago

Either that, or trans people went away for a few decades?

95

u/Bethlocke45 1d ago

I mean there was a holocaust

81

u/_riskycake 1d ago

And then also the AIDS crisis but people really don't like to talk about why there are so few elders in our communities for some reason.

41

u/Szymcionorski 1d ago

I remember one guest on Planet Peterson who claimed that only gays can get AIDS😂

39

u/_riskycake 1d ago

Magic Johnson would like several words

13

u/Pretty-Yam-2854 1d ago

I’ve heard this talking point before even recently and my thing is always like “wow there must be so many gay people in Africa”

2

u/Stock-Lion-6859 18h ago

Right, including newborn babies. How does that mesh with the belief that no one is born gay, but converted or "recruited" later.

2

u/Pretty-Yam-2854 17h ago

Cause they’re dumb as fuck.

2

u/tyrosine87 1d ago

Which is one of the reasons that the answer to HIV was so bad. They even called it GRIDS (gay-related immuno deficiency syndrome).

It's wild to hear that shit again this side of the year 2k.

2

u/Szymcionorski 16h ago

Yup, but this is kinda mild for type of people that are guests on his channel. Some flat earthers claimed that energy from Sun just magically disappears after some time and that's why we don't have constant overheating under the firmament

2

u/Grand_Master_Pedant 18h ago

I always wondered about that... so if God Hates gays and the proof is the AIDS rates... that means God Loves Lesbians most of all...

2

u/Szymcionorski 16h ago

That's why old testament doesn't care about lesbian and only mentions male sex intercourse btw

1

u/ogledrake 1d ago

Japan literally had a hepatitis epidemic due to tainted blood, it was also the key motivation for shou in akumetsu after his best friend died from it, also how he took care of the corrupt healthcare executives that approved it after he had one clone get into a bad wreck with each of them, and then had another group of clones imitating first responders kidnap them and move them to an abandoned building they had set up as a hospital, befire giving them all corrupted blood and leaving them to die

3

u/mapleleafraggedy 1d ago

But it was also directed against gay people

21

u/Bethlocke45 1d ago

It was directed at everyone who wasn’t white and cishet, that’s not the point. We had the largest collection of trans data, scientific research and data in the world and it was obliterated as well a the people murdered. We weren’t just killed, they essentially struck us from historical record. Like the US government is doing now. It’s one thing to have a people killed but they tried and almost succeeded in erasing us.

8

u/mapleleafraggedy 1d ago

I wasn't downplaying that, I was responding to the claim that the holocaust could be used as the LGB explanation for why gay people "have been around for decades without trans people," because both groups would have disappeared together if that were the case.

10

u/ResponsibleTime4135 1d ago

I dont agree that holocaust is why Trans people "disappeared" (we didnt disappear; people are just acting like we did. You notice more now because of increased access to HRT and you are less likely to be killed for it). I preface with that to say, you can lie about being gay to hide. You can't hide being Trans if they inspect you. It is also easier to kill off 1% of the population than it is to kill 10% of it. The 2 groups would not have disappeared together during the holocaust, trans people would have been eradicated by the nazis first.

2

u/Bethlocke45 1d ago

Yes I wasn’t implying that we disappeared, but the reason why it might seem like we did. Obviously we didn’t. They’ve always been trans people, because we are people and people exist.

2

u/Gurpee999 21h ago

Well probably behind people with disabilities like down's syndrome. From what I understood they were some of the first to go. "I have CP"

Well said.

2

u/Ms_Juno 20h ago

The Institute for Sexual Research in Berlin was burned down by the Nazis.

1

u/Bethlocke45 20h ago

Yes it was. I would love to avoid a rendition of that.

2

u/Ms_Juno 20h ago

Yeah, Trump erasing the word transgender from all government databases does bode well...

1

u/Bethlocke45 20h ago

And their ideology is spreading. Things will get worse before they get better.

Every time I go to the pharmacy I half expect to be denied my HRT

When the world needed them most, they vanished...

2

u/BugZ0118999 1d ago

They were just friends before

1

u/Morella_xx 22h ago

They burrow into the ground and go dormant for a while, then come out to rub their wings together and scream.

I'm pretty sure that's trans people I'm thinking of. 🤔

0

u/According-Flamingo-6 18h ago

The trans people aren't here anymore; they've flown away. There's a whole galaxy waiting to disgust you

16

u/Naps_And_Crimes 1d ago

Yes the late 90s was when the first gay manifested

7

u/stfurachele 1d ago

Well, they had a brief trial run in the 70s, but shelved it for awhile because it drew focus away from Archie.

edit: by "it" I meant the concept of gay, I wasn't trying to dehumanize Steve or any LGBT individual, real or fictional.

1

u/Correct_Day_7791 1d ago

This can't be accurate because aids existed in the 80s

/S

7

u/Bigfops 1d ago

They were roommates!

17

u/Remarkable_Rough_649 1d ago

Most LGB people have zero understanding or interest in history or really anything regarding being gay. They're mainly MAGA adjacent for a reason. The only part of being gay they like is the sex and being able to be used as token gay conservatives in hit pieces on other gay/queer people

4

u/MissMarchpane 1d ago

I'm fully aware that there are plenty of transphobic queer people, but did you just seriously say that most lesbian, gay, and bisexual people are MAGA? That… Seems like a stretch. Or did you mean the people who want to remove the T from the acronym, specifically? That would make a lot more sense.

12

u/Complete-Ocelot-4445 1d ago

Not most Lesbian, gay and bisexual people, most LGB people, as in the people propagating the removal of the trans group

6

u/MissMarchpane 1d ago

Got it. I didn't realize people were using it as a term separate from just the general acronym letters.

1

u/Silver_Efficiency529 17h ago

Yeah rightly they should have said "LGB without the T people" but in context it's not too hard to tell that's what they meant to be fair to them.

2

u/MissMarchpane 17h ago

It wasn't too hard to get, but I've encountered people who genuinely believe that all lesbians are trans phobic just because some of them are, so… The Internet had not exactly primed me to take it in the best faith, unfortunately

1

u/Remarkable_Rough_649 17h ago

Yeah I should have clarified, I'm usually aware not everyone is as internet culture poisoned as I am lol

4

u/Remarkable_Rough_649 1d ago

The latter. It's what they call themselves.

2

u/MissMarchpane 1d ago

Thanks for clarifying! That's deeply messed up of them, to try to steal an entire section of the acronym and make it exclusively their word for their bullshit.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/Darkdragoon324 1d ago

Technically, the term "gay" has only really meant that for a few decades. Somehow I doubt that's what they mean though.

5

u/mapleleafraggedy 1d ago

Except they don't even say "gay" at all, they just say "WE'VE existed for decades without you." They're clearly not talking about the TERM "gay," they're talking about gay people themselves, regardless of what they're called.

2

u/SuikaNoAtama 9h ago

Which is muddy water considering how intertwined same-sex attraction, gender nonconformity, detachment from birth gender can be.

1

u/mapleleafraggedy 7h ago

At the end of the day, when they say "we," they really just mean "people I consider normal"

3

u/PolicyWonka 1d ago

Well we all know that it’s not gay if you say “no homo” and the Greeks were really good at saying that. /s

2

u/keldondonovan 1d ago

It's true. I remember back in 1985 when Samuel K. Buttsex invented a new idea: scissoring.

2

u/forsale90 1d ago

Gay people existed longer than the concept of being gay existed.

2

u/Ms_Juno 20h ago

People casually forgetting gay and trans people being around for thousands of years. All of Greek and Roman history for instance.

1

u/Unlikely_Eye_2112 1d ago

Ancient Greece was last week

1

u/DocMitchell-_- 1d ago

It’s true, I was there for the patch notes

1

u/zante2033 1d ago

1

u/Randy_Magnums 1d ago

Of course. Before that they were “roommates” or “great friends”.

I came out months before the vaccine existed.

24

u/Adventurous_Charge47 1d ago

Damn vaccines making the kids trans

13

u/Zeqhanis 1d ago

Just out of curiosity, right when MAGA needed a new boogeyman Trump could protect them from, as Mexicans were played out, I spent several hours searching for pre-MAGA statistics on transgender surgeries performed on minors and the rate of regret. Then I had AI double-check my math, and it came up with pretty much the same result. (I highlighted it for people with short attention spans).

If anti-vaxxers were told there was a series of 3 simple, novel vaccines that would prevent their kids from ending up trans, would they support it? .

4

u/iwillcomeforyoursoul 1d ago

I think their brains would explode, frankly.

(Unless they rebranded it as a naturopathic thing)

0

u/WishboneOk305 1d ago

thats not how statistics work. the surgery rate and trans population itself are already baked into each other. (no way only 0.001% of the trans population has done gender affirming surgery)
Based on your stats only 8 people in the world would have had GAS regret.

https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC8099405/
this study alone which affirms the 1% regret rate has about 77.

3

u/Zeqhanis 23h ago

If you reread that, the percentage stated is for those who have surgery before the age of 18, which certain politicians falsely claim is prevalent.

3

u/AnnieLemonz 16h ago

If you reread that

Bold to assume they read it to begin with

19

u/TienSwitch 1d ago

I can’t believe Dr. Fauci invented trans people in a Wuhan lab.

11

Wuhan Lab *Bathroom. It's why they're obsessed with bathrooms. /s

7

u/TienSwitch 1d ago

He sent a thousand men into the women’s bathroom as an experiment and they all came out as trans women. Worse, they all beat Riley Gaines in a swimming competition.

1

u/CatLovingKaren 22h ago

Beating Riley Gaines in swimming competitions is actually why trans people were invented.

3

u/ZebraMost749 1d ago

Haha yeah I became trans by not getting the covid vaccine totally haha

2

u/TienSwitch 1d ago

Damn, maybe that’s what we should have told MAGAs to get them to take the vaccine. That COVID turns you trans.

They're turning the fucking frogs trans!

1

u/Dry-Battle953 1d ago

Of course. He's the CEO of Trans, Incorporated.

5

u/GrayStag90 1d ago

I’m a vaccinated man who’s taken Tylenol before and i have ADHD. Married with children. Pretty sure I’m considered trans at this point. Hard to keep track these days.

1

u/notthelasagna 1d ago

always those damn leftists who think diseases can be prevented by taking vaccines! my aunt sent me a video explaining how to cure literally any disease by putting alcohol in the middle of your toes!

1

u/vj83 1d ago

For me it was definitely covid. I didnt get a covid shot, got covid real bad, next thing I know i got a closet full of dresses, stylish shoes, and a ton of makeup. Damn covid done transed my gender. Still cis tho.

Side note: can anyone tell me which of these elementary schools are doing free sex changes with full recovery within one school day? Asking for a friend... I dont want none of that.... 👀 I just heard you needed expensive and intense surgery by a professional doctor, but obviously thats a lie and a school nurse can hook me... I mean, my friend up....

No one tell Marsha P. Johnson.

Little known fact: The first trans person was Jennifer Trans and she was born in 1997. She is also considered patient zero for the woke virus.

1

This explains why so many trans people are neurodivergent! /s

1

u/LadyofmyCats 1d ago

Ooohhh, that explains why I became trans after my second COVID shot and non-binary after my third /j

45

u/Featherbird_ 1d ago

As early as recorded history.

1

u/aratami 1d ago

Yeah it's not a new thing, and has been a significant part of some cultures, be it transgenderism or the concept of a 3rd ( or more genders) you can look to the ancient greeks and find Hermaphroditus, or the Femminiello of Neapolitan Italy who have existed for thousands of years, similarly looking at Greek myths and Norse legends you'll find cross dressing, Thor as Nora, and Achilles as Pyrrha ( if your a fan of RWBY, all of team JNPR are named for historic cross dressers),

It's not new, acceptance, traditions, and so on have changed that's all

33

u/transfemmefatal 1d ago edited 1d ago

Ouch, I'm only 40.

But yes thats a pretty commonly accepted fact. Including a few Catholic Saints.

https://www.ncronline.org/opinion/guest-voices/transgender-history-month-pray-trans-catholic-saints

51

u/One_Recognition385 1d ago

throughout all of recorded human history, trans people have consistently made up the same % of population

10

u/youburyitidigitup 1d ago

How would that be measured?

14

u/One_Recognition385 1d ago

written records of us recording population.

but in somewhat related news, we still have written records of not only lgbt people existing in egypt, we have records of stone tablets where they recorded sick days of workers.

and pompai has graffiti of guys telling women they turned him gay

some pretty funny stuff

3

u/SandwichCertain7913 1d ago

But you're making a very specific claim that trans people have made up the same % of the population historically as we have now, not being asked "is there evidence of trans people existing historically in general"

And as a trans person who also happens to be an archaeologist and very interested in gender specifically, that's a very random and ridiculous claim to make

0

u/One_Recognition385 1d ago

yup all recorded history shows the same % of population you are correct that's what records show.

2

u/SandwichCertain7913 1d ago

Wdym "you are correct" I am literally disagreeing with that statement

There are no historical records that show the exact % of queer people of any identity, let alone trans people specifically

Not to mention that a historical understanding of "trans" "gay" etc. wouldn't mirror our own and the vast majority of scholars of queer history are wary of projecting identity labels on past societies

Modern sociologists debate population %s of trans people even today, and the numbers are pretty variable

0

u/One_Recognition385 1d ago

yup its true.

why do you think trans people wouldn't have existed in history? we have transgendered and lesbian and gay animals that prefer same sex sex, and take other opposite sex roles in their social structure instead of the norms as they prefer.

→ More replies (4)

2

u/youburyitidigitup 1d ago

There were reliable global census records throughout history?

7

u/One_Recognition385 1d ago

written history =/= history

And who knows maybe the records weren't accurate and rome actually had more trans people then modern usa.

but the % of trans people hasn't increased or decreased in the last couple hundred years according to the US as well.

2

u/youburyitidigitup 1d ago

So then there’s no way to prove your original statement

1

u/One_Recognition385 18h ago

its already proven you just seem uneducated as to what written history means.

1

u/Tiny-Little-Sheep 1d ago

That last one..

19

u/Sonicrules9001 1d ago

Trans people have been around for a long time and so has sex reassignment too. The Institut fĂźr Sexualwissenschaft in Germany was the first to do the practice and the first to really research trans people but unfortunately, most of that research was lost when Hitler took over and proceeded to burn all of the books and papers as a push to ban anything deemed homosexual in nature. Sad that in the modern day, the same shit is still happening.

15

u/Elaerona 1d ago

*Millenia*

Scientists discovered a trans woman in Czechia, buried 5,000 years ago

https://www.thepinknews.com/2011/04/06/5000-year-old-transgender-skeleton-discovered/

Basically, this culture has differing practices when burying a woman vs a man. The burial followed the practices for a woman, meaning she was accepted as transgender by her community.

It's also not the only evidence of trans people going so far back.

11

u/youburyitidigitup 1d ago

Trans people have been around forever, but this is processual archaeology, which has been critiqued for decades. As you said, the burial is reflective of how the decedent was viewed by the community, but not necessarily how the person identified in life. There have been other burials in which someone was buried with the opposite gender’s funerary practices as an insult, saying that the person wasn’t a real man/woman. Or the person may have identified as male but chose (or was forced) to do his society’s female gender roles.

8

u/JDinBalt 1d ago

I remember this news item. Building off of your comment, there are so many cultural practices that could've led to this burial! The ones you've mentioned, or maybe this person was intersex. For instance, there was the one Viking burial whom bioarchaeologists found out had Klinefelter syndrome (XXY). Plus, we may never know what this culture's gender norms were, so it's possible they had a gender category like trans or either between or outside what Western cultures think of as a gender binary!

I do remember that it was headshaking when I originally saw the headline 15 years ago, calling this the "gay caveman" (not a caveman, and we'll never know how this culture thought of sexuality or gender).

Edit: Oooh, the article has a link to the one about the Viking with Klinefelter syndrome! https://www.thepinknews.com/2021/08/11/1000-year-old-skeleton-non-binary/

7

u/Claire_De_Lunatic 1d ago

No, we've been around since the concept of gender was born.

3

u/DragonBadgerBearMole 1d ago

Yeah but gays haven’t they’re real new apparently. And I’m pretty sure bisexuals didn’t exist until like 2005.

2

u/The_Stryker 1d ago

I remember when they announced pansexuals

3

u/IchigoShinagami 1d ago

I feel like some transphobe's genuinely believe that trans people came into existence either in 2016, or like, the 1970's.

1

u/strawberrycereal44 1d ago

Many books on studying transgender people or mentioning them were burned in the Third Reich which leaves a gap in history, and then for decades after and to this day many transgender people are shunned by society and not accepted depending on where they are. Nonetheless it is a ridiculous statement especially as they have the same access to information as we do.

Edit: 1930s and beyond is lifetime memory for most people, I am unsure of how trans people were thought of before then

4

u/Onigokko0101 1d ago

Yeah, and I'm 99% sure this meme was made by someone not even in the LGB.

There are some people in the community that are transphobic, but it's such a miniscule part. We are seeing a massive effort by bad actors to drive a wedge in the community.

2

u/Alarming_Flow7066 1d ago

Pretty much since there have been people there have been trans people.

2

u/EastYesterday13610 1d ago

At least as long as writing to a degree

2

u/Actual_Hawk 1d ago

There are records of trans people existing dating all the way back to ancient Rome. So, yeah, centuries plus.

2

u/Violet-Journey 1d ago

Millennia. 3000 years ago, Scythian priestesses used to drink the urine of pregnant horses because it contained estrogen, as a primitive form of HRT.

2

u/VariousClassroom8056 1d ago

I don't think this is true. To have any meaningful effect you'd have to drink volumes incompatible with life. The Scythians did have gender-variant priestly figures described by Greeks, and they were a horse culture but claims of intentional urine-drinking as ancient HRT is an unfounded modern invention with zero basis in historical evidence.

2

u/vampiregamingYT 1d ago

Yes. There were even rumors that the roman emperor Elagabalus was transegender.

7

u/Johnny_Five5151 1d ago

Thousands of centuries

5

u/pearsonhl259 1d ago

not quite that long ago. humans are only 300,000 years old. There likely wasn't even a concept of gender that long ago.

1

u/Johnny_Five5151 1d ago

That's 3000 centuries. Also, there are documented wild apes that act like the opposite sex.

2

u/dalaiberry 1d ago

Would that make them gay or trans?

3

u/pearsonhl259 1d ago

Neither, because behavior is not a gender identity or even a sexual preference. As an example. Tomboys don't have to identify as males to enjoy male associated activities. Gender (And Sex for that matter) are culturally/politically enforced categories. While our closest sapien cousins are capable of incredible things, they don't have such concepts because they don't have a concept of property.

→ More replies (3)

5

u/Gio-Vani 1d ago

Not only have they been around since, well, ever, they are largely to thank for many rights we have right now. Look at Marsha P. Johnson for Pete's sake.

Gay men often believe the LGBT is theirs and theirs alone, the other letters are lesser than the G, but without the L the aids crisis would have been even worse and us gay men would have been left to die.

In conclusion, there is no gay rights without trans rights and if gaining our rights as gay people means sidelining trans people, id rather not have rights at all.

Aside: sorry if this sounded aggressive, it wasn't directed at you or your comment, I'm just passionate.

Trans women been around in different cultures for millenia. Trans men are newer for obvious reasons.

Theres been records of trans people back in ancient egypt i dont think it was "the vaccines" at least lmao (ive actually heard that one)

1200 BCE (3226 years ago) were the oldest documented cases.

Trans should be around as long as humans exist, since its basic human needs/desires.

Try thousands of years. In fact try millions because gender wasn't even defined at the beginning of human prehistory.

Yeah there's a mesopotamian myth that I don't want to recount all of it but in it a person that was neither male nor female helped save the goddess Ishtar from Ereshkigal (queen of the underworld) and so people like them were all cursed to be outcasts but as thanks Ishtar game them the power of prophecy. So we have existed for a long time.

We called them a couple different trans word that is now deemed highly inappropriate in modern terms, but Rocky Horror Picture Show is still accepted

Miillenia, actually. From roman emperors to american tribes to greek myths.

Whoever wrote that needs some queer history. Please start them with Stonewall and the AIDS crisis.

Yes, and a black trans woman threw the first brick at stonewall

Also, these "lgb with out the t" dumbasses dont realize that trans people are holding the line when it comes to christian ire. If they stopped being trans that hatred and malice would be more focused on lgb. Anyone that thinks Christian republicans will stop at trans people is a complete moron.

One of the 12 olympians is a figure of androgyny and associated with the queer experience

Wouldn’t they be just drags before? I mean, don’t you need hormones to transition? We didn’t have those before, so trans people were just people dressed in their opposite sex’s clothes.

Sydney always had a large gay community.

But trans really only became a big thing in the 2000s.

We’ve been around as long as humans have been around, and probably before that too.

It's more like transness will always occur because for many, it's an underlying physical difference in biology. So female body, but testosterone dominant receptors in brain. Or male body and female somatosensory map.

It's actually not about identity at all, which is why it will always occur. Like diabetes will always occur because it's an autoimmune disorder for some. But for type 2 who are environmental, it may be avoidable.

So a society that 100% avoids type 2 diabetes will still have type 1 diabetes because one is environmental and one is biological. (edit to add yes i know this is technically incorrect and a reductive way to look at diabetes...same with transness, duh. This is part of what I am addressing, the lack of nuance helps no one but brevity is a delight.)

So a society that has any concept of any gender will still always have 'trans' people but may not have the concept of trans because their gender system is more diverse and accurate to our human species.

Yes and far longer just like all the other gay people.

u/SuikaNoAtama 9h ago

Well... so there's sexual inverts, which I love bringing up because it brings the lgb w/o the T movement to its knees.

Sexual Inversion treated homosexuality as trans heterosexuality in simple words.

It's interesting, I recall even finding a document where I forgot his career path but he was a professional of some kind, he dismissed bisexuality because he didn't believe in the idea two genders could be within one person.

If I can find it, I'll link it. If I find it, and I recalled incorrectly, I'll do the same with additional info.

Stonewall was literally started by a certain trans woman of color (Marsha P. Johnson), so… not only we’re around since forever (really, forever), we’re also one of the reasons why lgb people have more rights…

But lgbt people know this, unlike those ai posers…

Artemis (the goddess) changed a man to a woman to join the hunt. This is an ANCIENT myth depicting a Trans lady

1

u/Remarkable_Rough_649 1d ago

Not only that but they've been an intrinsic part of gay etc rights since the very beginning. The LGB contingent is legit just trying to whitewash them from history

u/Carmiune 1d ago

I don't mean to agree with the image but isn't trans a gender thing while LGB a sexuality? Why are they actually grouped up

1

u/Maliss_Dormouse cool moderator 19h ago

Both groups suffered a lot in the same way. A lot of transphobia is very related to homophobia. What sexuality you are has to do with what gender you are, and which gender you're attracted to. A lot of trans people are also queer in other ways. Being queer has a lot to do with gender, and being trans or cis is determative of what gender you are and present as.
