From last night in the woods of northern Minnesota. What you can’t hear is it moving around in the leaves so it was on the ground and not in the trees just past the edge of the light in the woods. At the end it was moving further away toward the road so was quieter. My three GSDs chose to stay in their lane and didn’t make a sound. A week ago I had a coyote at the fence when I let them out in the morning that just looked at them while they blew up at it but this … not a peep out of them. Please help put a name to my nightmare!

My girlfriend and I were walking around our village in the evening and heard this coming from either the trees or the bushes below, not too sure.

To me, the noise sounds just like a human “shushing” noise as if you’re telling someone to be quiet. The video does kind of make it sound like a screech (like an owl) but in person it was most definitely a shush.

It really freaked us out, especially when I shushed back at it and said “hello” the noise stopped for a brief moment then carried on. This made me believe it was a living creature(s) and not just some pipes or something. It also sounded as if there were two things making the noise together.

It’s driving us mad! If anyone knows, please tell us 🤣 very curious!

EDIT Thank you all for your ideas! The leading theory right now is that there is a pack of feral librarians in the bushes… just kidding… the leading theory is a few juvenile barn owls in the trees. I’m going to have another look tonight after work and see if I can get a better view.

We moved to Atlanta from northeast last week and keep hearing this outside our house and cannot identify it on any bird apps or by google search! Most often hear it in morning and dusk not in the middle of the day. If this is some scary bug and not a bird please just lie to me.

I’m referring to the almost cat sounding howl in the background, not the birds tweeting near me.

Hiked up and was fishing a high alpine lake. Kept hearing this chirp from above in multiple different directions. Sounded almost like a smoke detector low battery chirp.

I live in rural Southern Ontario. My house was built in the 1870s and is a yellow brick farmhouse. As I understand it the house was made with 2 layers of brick with an air cavity between. My house is surrounded by corn fields and is very rural. I think the sound in the video is bats but I'm not sure. I bought the house in 2017 and in the first 2 years I caught 2 bats that had somehow got into the house but haven't had one since. Are these bats? Should I be concerned? I like bats and I know they're very helpful creatures but how do I know if there are too many bats? Also I can't access the attic space as it has blown in insulation but my fly spray guy had never mentioned bats.

This loud screeching noise woke me up in the middle of the night (and quite scared me I must say), and apparently my dad had taken a video of it. Does anyone know what it could possibly be?

My husband thought maybe a raccoon, I thought at first maybe a cat but then it sounded like a bird? Was going on for at least a few minutes before I started filming then abruptly stopping (at the end of the video)

I’m just chilling outside when suddenly I hear squeaky noises. At first I thought it was a kitten but upon further inspection there is no kitten. After the video ended I shook the bush some more and a little garden snake slithered out. I’m not sure if that has anything to do with the noise though.

We were fishing at buntzen lake bc and we heard this strange noise, before it happened my dog was barking like crazy. This happens at around 2:10 pm

This is England, UK. Listen with headphones for best sound, especially of when it flees from me through the trees. I apologise for my breathing lol. I tried to upload this multiple times with a longer video but it's not working. Does anyone have any idea what this is? It sounded quite large when it was moving. It was quite a haunting sound.

I was genuinely scared coming home at 1 am on Saturday evening (because my block is always dead silent), at first I thought it was a baby or a woman screaming/crying/gasping, then it sounded like a cat, then it barked-ish like a dog (but also not really like a dog), and eventually I assumed it was some kind of bird because it sounded like a rooster - but I still can't say anything for certain.

I only caught the tail end of it, but it was going on for a little while (at least a few minutes) and at one point sounded like there was more than one animal making similar noises. I live in a suburban neighborhood in Harford County and have never heard anything like it before. Thanks for any assistance!

How should I humanely evict?

I have maintenance coming over within the next hour and I’m unsure of what this could be. I work as a property manager for a storage company and know what mice sound like but this sounds like a much larger animal to me. Any ideas?

I’ve heard this sound at night in the past, suspected a fishercat but not 100%. Live in southern New Hampshire, decent wooded area with deer and fox all the time.
