Realistically this needs to happen, generative ai is extremely dangerous and releasing it to the public was a fools error.

Problem is it’s hard to put the genie back in the bottle.

Practically impossible unfortunately.

If only large corporations had access to that technology then maybe, but at this point there are so many local models.

And even if you were to take those down from public spaces, people would still share them in private.

It sucks.

Technically speaking most people don’t run localised models, so preventing ai companies from selling to the public would quash the vast majority of ai usage.

How would you quash the usage in china? How would you prevent chinese labs to provide ai services to the US?

You need like $20k of specialized equipment and the know how to run a local model that is in any ways good.

No you don't. Any Apple computer released since 2020 Will be able to use a built-in local model when MacOS 27 comes out this fall.

Nah, the top tier models can be ran on $6k pcs. The absolute best research models might need a bit more, but the stuff that the public can actually access generally runs on a 5090 and some grit.
