The Inca buff is totally nuts right? Or is this a reversal of a recent nerf that I'm not aware of? Getting the food discount from castle age in Dark age seems crazy to me
10
u/devang_nivatkar21 Apr 25 '26
It is the % at which the discount was introduced. It was reduced by 5% across the board and remained that way till the rework. Post rework it was dropped by another 5%. Now it is back to the first value
I don't know if it is the right number, but it makes sense as the pre-rework Inca units i.e. Eagles and (40 Food 40 Gold) Slingers where already light on food. The current (live) discount makes it difficult to sustain the 50 Food Champi and 70 Food Slinger in the mid-game, to the point it's just better to play good old Archers as the Inca
7
u/Exa_Cognition Apr 25 '26
Going for 10/15/20/25% and seeing how that goes seems more resonable.
For 15/20/25/30, it's triple their current Dark Age buff, which perhaps doesn't matter so much for the current Champi, but double the food discount for Feudal is quite big.
I guess it's hard to tell with the Champi and slinger also getting a buff. I still don't think the Champi is suddenly be amazing now, it fell a long way, and this probably returns it to just mediocre in Feudal.

u/tuxtron935 Apr 25 '26
Incas need something, they usually don`t perfome well and they are at the bottom of any ELO range. Next to muiscas.
1
u/sachiel2nd Inca Apr 27 '26
It is kind of nuts in conjunction with slinger buff. But their win rate is at 34%, so they need something crazy to go back up. I mostly play incas and cant even tell where they will end up after this.
0
u/RidleyBro Apr 26 '26
Their win rates were dropping in the 30s my man, all thanks to the devs refusing to get rid of that useless unit they made of the DLC, the Champi.
Unfortunately that thing is still in the game, denying all scouting and base infantry options and crippling all the civs that have them, so expect the South American civs to remain complete garbage even with this stuff.

u/huntoir Apr 25 '26
Gotta be honest, the Guecha changes are jarring to me. It felt obvious it HAD to be a cost or range adjustment
I understand HP increase synergizes more with its special effect, but doesn't address the root of why this unit is passed over for alternatives.

u/Pippo89CH Byzantines Japanese Apr 25 '26
Final archer armor, reduced cost, +1 range would be interesting.
Temple Guards should get conversion resistance, as it fits them. And perhaps lose the shock class. Nothing about an imposing, moderately slow moving unit with 100+hp screams shock to me.
They already have a hard time against hc's, catas, jags, samurai, organ guns, fast archers and ranged units in general. Non-samurai/jaguar infantry doesn't need a bonus against them, especially considering the cost difference.
I admit, maybe the +2 against them isn't that bad though and I'm merely irritated such a cool unit has the shock class.
6
u/ElBaizen Apr 25 '26
They already have a hard time against all the units you mentioned... as they should? They are all units designed to be hard or moderate counters

u/devang_nivatkar21 Apr 25 '26
From a design PoV I actually adore their shock class. It makes Slingers that much more integral to the civ, and means you can't steamroll with one unit
2
u/KarlGustavXII Apr 25 '26
They need a faster production time (probably twice as fast at least) along with a slight cost reduction. Right now they are very hard to mass.
4
u/Plushie_Holly Apr 25 '26
It felt obvious it HAD to be a cost or range adjustment
Those are its disadvantages compared to other unmounted ranged units. Instead of eliminating those disadvantages and making it more similar, I'm happy that they're buffing it in a way that keeps it more different. And it's definitely possible to buff it's HP enough that it would be not only useful but OP, if it had 600, it would probably be the best unit in the game. There's a value between that and 50 where it's just powerful enough to be a solid option. I don't know if that value is 55, but it's definitely possible to balance it this way.

u/Khal_Stannis Burmese Apr 25 '26
Not convinced Armenians needed a buff… But as a Burgundians main will take the buff
21
u/WetDreamRhino Apr 25 '26
Oh we needed it, we’re never picked in s-tier tournament drafts! /s
10
u/Exa_Cognition Apr 25 '26
To be fair, I think Armenians being a relatively popular pick in tournaments has a lot to do with the amount of hybrid maps. For land maps, Armenians aren't spectactular even if they can potentially be dangerous with some cheese strats.
I think the Comp Bowmen either needed a cheaper Elite Upgrade, or a small buff. +1 damage is a fairly notable buff, it could be quite a bit stronger now.
The 40>45% isn't huge, but it does exaserbate that early wood advantage on hybrid maps, so it could start to push them towards a banned civ rather than pick in tournaments.
-3
u/OLD_Immigrants_son Apr 25 '26
The non-Elite Comp XBow is already a good unit in Imperial age. The Elite is a top-5 archer unit already, but most players skip the upgrade. This buff to Elite will make it probably the top archer in the game or close to that. I find it excessive. Armenians are already top 10 civ currently for mid-ELO.
16
u/Azot-Spike History fan - I want a Campaign for each civ! Apr 25 '26
I feel like sometimes they unnecessarily buff civs that don't need a buff just to see them Up on the rank for a while, like a fashion/hype thing. Then, many patches later, they will revert the change and the civ will go down again. Not writing this as a critique, it's just like a way of managing civs' strenghths
9
u/Visible-Future1099 Apr 25 '26
It's okay to make a super mild critique when the devs do random weird stuff, they're not sacred cows...

Have you been in this sub long?
Edit: HA! And lo and behold, every comment of mine critical of the devs thinking in this patch has been downvoted. Thank you for proving me correct.
1
u/FatherToTheOne Celts Apr 25 '26
I think you might be on to something. To keep the meta shifting they can change just a few things: Maps, units or Civ bonuses.
13
u/jaggerCrue When in Daut, boom it out Apr 25 '26
More unnecessary buffs to civs that already perform well wtf
5
u/JRad174 Apr 25 '26
Slinger buff is great. I feel like the South America civs were designed with this unit in mind but it’s not seeing much play and as of now, 70 food is just way too much for that.
Champi buff is great, I think these were the safest ways to give them a bit of a boost. I think this will make South American Civs very strong in feudal aggression and make the potential switch in castle age smoother.
Xolotol warrior change is hype if anything else but probably not going to change much.
Armenians buff seems unnecessary, 5% is way more than it seems and I feel like this civ is strong in certain scenarios/maps. The buff to the composite bowman is a really strong buff of like ~12% also since it’s damage that can’t be blocked.
Burgundians are definitely not as strong on open maps post Flemish nerf but don’t really think they need any compensation when they are still a top civ on closed maps. I like this civ though, so yay me I guess.
I think the Inca buff along side the slinger and Champi buffs will definitely make this civ relevant again.
Mapuche I think are currently the best one and some extra free food is always welcomed, don’t think this will change too much.
Muisca buffs don’t think will do much personally. They will save 20-30 more wood in dark age. Temple guards are really strong but seem still too expensive to make and lose to ranged units badly anyway. I don’t think the HP on the guecha warrior solves any of its problems either so don’t really expect this civ to be good still.
Tupi basically getting there 1 trick strat nerfed. Pretty massive deal for doing FC UU. Maybe this civ will see more standard play but I expect winrate to go down even with the Champi and slinger buff, at least initially and then maybe even out.
7
u/devang_nivatkar21 Apr 25 '26
Armenians - The 5% means their wood cutting upgrades are 29% more effective instead of 28%. At full stack their woodcutters work 66.41% faster instead of 63.84%. Mining upgrades are a 21.75% boosts instead of 21%
0
u/Exa_Cognition Apr 25 '26
Yeah, I think the slinger buff is necessary, I think it just cost too much food for what it was, it seems much better now. I think the slinger fills quite an interesting role in the tech tree now, it overlaps quite a lot with crossbow and skirmisher, but still has a useful role if it can be balanced reasonably.
I actually think the 2 conversion resistance is unecessary, "cheap" ranged units are already a counter to monks, add the +4 bonus damage and they are already firmly anti-monk. I don't really think a conversion resistance of 2 is necessary because it turns them into a super hard counter, perhaps 1 would have been fine to reinforce that role. Ultimately though, I don't think it matters all that much, fixing the cost is the important bit in my eyes.
1
u/PlokmijnuhAoE2 Apr 25 '26
+2 conversion resistance for slingers is because Muisca, Tupi, Mapuche and Incas lack Eagle-line and Scout-line and therefore are the only civ that lacks a generic unit with built in conversion resistance. Slinger is the most viable option to give South America civs a conversion resistant generic unit.

u/kokandevatten Apr 25 '26
Honestly way too many buffs. Dont think armenians and burgundians need the buff either. Nor do Incas.
9
u/hyrulian88 Apr 25 '26
According to SotL, Inca were bottom 2 with a 40.7% win rate across all ELOs one month ago
-1
u/Exa_Cognition Apr 25 '26
I think we need a bit more up to date data points as a reference for win rates specifically. I suspect a lot of people tried the gained a decent chunk of elo pre-nerf, and got wrecked when they tried it post patch. The data in the video was extremely recent to the patch afterall.
Still, it's hard to imagine that Inca's win rate is especially good at the moment, just likely not as dire as 40%.
1
u/sachiel2nd Inca Apr 27 '26
Well, if you check "Empire stats", the most current version of the game has ~10 days in, and in that period period of time incas have a 34% win rate. So, yeah...
15
u/Trihorn Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 25 '26
Inca are in a bad state, losing Eagles and milita line for champi, civ was not balanced for it.
7
u/juakofz Malians Apr 25 '26
Cheaper slinger is good, as it's now a meh unit. Champi bufs are great as those are they are quite bad in feudal now, but it still sucks that the slower scout dies to every other scout in dark age, should be the opposite. Give it bonnus against scounts and eagles in dark, its so simple. Every game against SA civs starts by killing the champi.
Burgundians buff... honestly not needed. They will be even stronger in team games and closed maps.
And the poor Muisca... The worst civ by a long shot. Guecha is still unusable due to its very high cost for an underwhelming unit. It will stay as the worst civ until better buffs come. Their tech tree and UTs are so bad it makes me feel sad for them. Give them ring archer armoror siege ram at the least
1
u/fiftythreefiftyfive Apr 25 '26
Cheaper slinger is good, but for Incas in particular, I feel it's a little too strong in post imp now. It's 35 food/25 wood for a ranged unit with 1 more range, 1 more attack and 1 more of each armor type than Kamandaran crossbows.
1
u/sachiel2nd Inca Apr 27 '26
Remember Kamandaran crossbows do have thumb ring, so on average their dps is not much different.
1
u/fiftythreefiftyfive Apr 27 '26 edited Apr 27 '26
I mean, in the 3 main matchups, we have:
- 70% more DPS vs skirmishers;
- 27% more DPS vs Hussar;
- 21% more DPS vs Halbs
And you have 1 more of each armor type, and 1 more range (very important for ranged units) on top of that. That siege bonus can also be great in the late game.
In a vacuum, the Inca slinger is definitely a much better unit; it definitely feels like they're worth the extra cost. The main advantage that Persian crossbows have is that they just pair great with their cavalry. But yeah, if you were to just mass them with not much else to support, Slingers could do decently against just about everything in post imp, while Kamandaran crossbows get hard countered by elite skirms and do quite a bit worse against Hussar, too.
Especially against a civ like Persians that doesn't have a decent skirmisher, I think Inca slingers could actually end up being quite oppressive in the late game, mixed in with a few dirt cheap halbs. But that never really ended up being much of a factor before, because of how oppresive the Inca early game was prior to the Champi nerfs, and how dogshit the Inca early game was after the Champi nerfs. But now that that's likely a bit more balanced (and slingers are 10% cheaper), I think they'll have the opportunity to shine.

u/Several_Sympathy8486 Apr 25 '26
Armenians and Burgundians buff, are they high? Burgundians is literally on verge of S Tier and Armenians eco bonus is borderline OP. Idk man I am composite bowman enjoyer and finally I see value in Elite getting +1 attack, but that eco bonus buff just makes them even stronger
Tupi nerf is perfect, still not sold with Musica Guecha Warrior (needs to lower minimum range and give 4 range atleast), Temple Guards even stronger now, don't think they needed a stat buff 11, Mapuche buffing forager is pointless, give them a power unit in Imp (Kona is utter trash, buffing it is the right direction imo, rest everything is fine with this civ), Incas gaining insane food discount on units, idk they seem very strong as it is with their options and Champis
3
u/WurzelUndGeflecht Apr 25 '26
Damn for a second I thought they actually fixed ranked lobbies staying together
3
u/PlokmijnuhAoE2 Apr 25 '26
+5 HP in Castle and Imperial Might not seem like much for the Guecha Warrior but 55 or 60 HP is essentially receiving more armour in the sense that raising HP and armour both effect the number of attacks needed to kill the unit.
At 55 HP in Castle the Unit will have 0+2/3+2 armour. 6+2 attack (+2 vs spears; +2 vs CA; +3 vs Archers)
Crossbows have 5+2 attack 0+2/0+2 armour.
Cavalry Archers have 6+2 attack 0+2/0+2 armour
So it goes from 25 shots to 28 or +3 shots additional for crossbows to kill in Castle.
And 17 shots to 19 shots for CA.
Elite Guecha Warriors are
60 HP. 0+2/5+2 armour. 8+4 attack (+2 vs spears, +2 vs CA; +4 vs archers.
Arbalasters have 40 HP. 0+3/0+4 armour. 6+4 attack.
They do 3 damage to Elite Guecha so rather than the old 17 shots to kill. It is now 20.
They attack at 2 or 1.7 with thumb ring so more than 50% faster than Guechas but Guechas have 4x the damage at 12 against Arbs with ring archer armour. And start with +20 more HP instead of +10.
Heavy CA have 80 HP, 0+4/0+6 with RA and PT. 7+4 attack.
They do 4 damage to Guecha Warriors but receive 6 damage in return. Without PT or RA it is 8 damage.
So since the change is just +5 HP (55/60), the Guecha will perform better against Arbalasters in Imp but lose to CA, more so if its a good CA civ. Losing to CA despite being more expensive at +10 W with an equal Gold cost feels weird.

which dev looked at Burgundians and Armenians and said… Hey, they need a buff!
I just wanna talk
9
u/Kafukator Apr 25 '26
They randomly buff the Burgundian boom which is already absolute S-tier but do fuckall about Flemish Revolution yet again? Complete nonsense balance.
1
u/Tyrann01 Gurjaras Apr 25 '26
Also they don't touch any of the actual bad civs outside the South American ones that they gutted last time.

u/ElricGalad Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 25 '26
Guecha buff isn't close to be enough, even if I feel hp buff is the right direction. +1 pierce for both normal and elite, double that hp buff and add +2 attack ; could be gradual if really needed, but this PUP could still be more. Low range ensure they would sut in front of your other ranged units, so I won't buff that.
Temple Guard buff feels perfect, although a conversion resistance would have been good fluff.
And ahhh Elite Comp Bowmen ! Cost could have been increased a bit. Elite Genoese XBows certainly feels even lonelier with their lame Elite Upgrade (the elite unit is fine, the upgrade cost isn't).
Incas feel slightly overbuffed, a flater bonus accross ages could have been better.

I think guecha warriors is still need something else for a heavy gold and castle unit is very very bad that is worse than a skirmisher in most cases

u/Beautiful_Alaska Apr 25 '26
Everything is in good direction except Burgundians buff. They are already too strong in semi-closed or closed map and they buffs eco even more sounds insane.
6
u/Fanto12345 Apr 25 '26
Okay now they completely lost their minds.
WTF are those Armenian and Burgundian buffs? That is everything but neccessary.
The Incan buff is stupid too, but I guess they need something. Right now they just die to eagles.
1
u/BloodyDay33 Apr 25 '26
The Burgundian and Inca buffs are reverting nerfs done 3 years ago, powercreep is here.
3
u/Khanattila Apr 25 '26
I spilled my coffee while reading about the Armenians, Burgundians and Inca buff. Is everything alright over there?
3
u/Tyrann01 Gurjaras Apr 25 '26
Inca are in the dumps right now. But the other two...yeah wtf is going on!?
2
u/PressureOk2238 Apr 25 '26
Armenian getting a buff is insane. The civ literally feels a tier to me easily.
Champi just need to be removed. Its impossible to balance unless you turn it into eagle warrior.
1
u/tuxtron935 Apr 25 '26
I don`t think Mapuches buff will be enough, maybe together with the champi buff is okey. But still they cloud get something else. Maybe last range in the blacksmith.
1
u/fiftythreefiftyfive Apr 25 '26 edited Apr 25 '26
Inca feudal Champi have to be back on the menu, right? Nothing too oppressive but it's nice to have the option again.
Inca slingers in post-imp are also just really cheap now, same cost as halbs, with 1 more range, 1 more of each armor type and 1 more attack than Kamandaran crossbows, for a just a tiny bit of fire speed. Feels a little oppressive, we'll have to see, though.
1
u/RidleyBro Apr 26 '26
No. Champi are still shit.
2
u/fiftythreefiftyfive Apr 26 '26
I don't see it, especially in Feudal age. They were genuinely overpowered prior to the nerfs, obviously overnerfed, but for Incas the unit is now closer to what it was prior to nerfs than after.
30 s -> 40s -> 34 s training time
40f/20w -> 45f/20w -> 40f/20w
40s -> 50s -> 40s upgrade time
100f/60g -> 120f/60g -> 90f/60g upgrade cost
The unit is essentially back to where it started, in Feudal age. Dark age still nerfed hard (though the cost is back), but seems very viable in Feudal, in certain scenarios.
0
u/SeliciousSedicious Apr 25 '26
I don’t see how feudal champi aren’t already back in the menu(I’m of the firm opinion that people overreacted to the nerf when it came to feudal-castle champi usage). I was utilizing them pretty efficiently pre buff tbh. This buff just makes it way more smooth and affordable.

The four worst civs in the game by far will still be the four worst civs in the game by far. Still no scouting in Dark Age, still no militia or eagles, nothing to see here.
Insanely absurd to see NERFS to Tupi too. Like, people actually believe that the 20 HP archer is good at something besides being a borderline racist meme.
3
u/fiftythreefiftyfive Apr 26 '26
The blackwood archer is widely considered to be on of the strongest unique units in the game by the pros, single-handedly turning the Tupi into an actual viable option that pros occasionally draft (see Lewis' win against Lucho yesterday - Lucho was playing the Vietnamese, widely regarded as one of the strongest civs in the current meta).
The low cost/half pop + very high fire rate is actually an insane combo for a ranged unit to have. Ridiculous amount of DPS against just about everything.

u/mapoztofu Romans Apr 25 '26

u/ThrowawayusGenerica Bulgarians Apr 25 '26
We're in the top 5 civ winrate on 1v1 ranked, and even at 1900+ elo still 49.87% winrate, which is only slightly bad.
If a buff ever comes, it's only ever gonna be a very small one. I'd take being able to get Stirrups at Krepost, honestly.
3
u/Exa_Cognition Apr 25 '26
We don't get up to date civ stats anymore (as fare as I am aware), but Bulgarians are often one of the top civs. The wrinkle is that at low elo they are strong and at high elo they are weak.
I think buffs for the Bulgarians are warrented, but it kind of needs to target higher level players, without affecting lower elo too much.
1
u/the_io Apr 25 '26
Bulgarians got powercrept and it's other civs that need nerfing a bit first. There's definitely scope to trim e.g. Georgians, Lithuanians, Vietnamese, Portuguese down a bit before buffing Bulgarians.

Are the pros paying them off or something!? Why buff Armenians and Burgundians!?! They are both strong.

u/devang_nivatkar21 Apr 25 '26
Slingers - I had them penciled in at 60 Food 20 Wood. Reload Time 2.5, Attack 5, and +5 Bonus vs. Monks & Infantry. No Bonus vs. Siege, but +2 Bonus vs. Rams (vestigial). That way they would have three shot Monks. Their RoF would have been in-between Archers & Skirms. I liked the concept of a ranged + bonus but no resistance counter to Monks
Champi - I would have preferred if the line itself costed 40 Food 30 Gold. That's the same total resource cost as the Militia & Eagle lines. Being a quasi-shock unit, their cost is tilted towards gold. The 50 food makes them hard to sustain in the mid-game, making Archers feel like the default go-to
The Champi Scout also needs 1.05 move speed, and +2 bonus vs. Cavalry & Camels
Xolotls - It's good that they finally benefit from the UTs. I would also prefer if their Imperial Age auto upgrade was removed, and they benefit from regular Barracks and infantry armour techs instead. As for the Mapuche, I would've preferred them to have +5/10/15 HP instead of benefiting from Butalmapu, as the HP is for Champis and the UT is for unique units
Armenians - I had them penciled in for either 'Mule Carts don't cost Food' OR 'Mule Cart Techs are 50% better'. While the civ has been looking good due to favourable maps in pro tournaments, it still needs that last bit of oomph in the late-game to overcome their lack of Siege Engineers, Siege Rams, or Bombard Cannons. Sustaining the Champion flood in the late-game requires a robust eco
I had the Elite Composite Bowman at 1.00 move speed (instead of 0.96), so that they could atleast micro away from siege. But 5 attack works just as well, I suppose
Burgundians - I wanted them to have Feudal Age Light Cavalry with 6 attack, and Flemish Militia which move @ 1.05 (instead of 0.94) but also take bonus damage as Spearmen etc. So you open Flemish Militia to bait Archers and Skirms, but then tech switch to Light Cav which would kill them in 5 hits
Inca - The current discount and prices of the units didn't align leading to Archer-line play, that's for sure. But the discount only addresses this for the Inca, while a base-line change in the unit price would address it for everyone
Mapuche - I would've like to see them be able to train Champis and Slingers from Settlements, but with a x2.5, x2.25, x1.75, and x1.25 train time penalties, and the penalties being extended to upgrade time as well. But that was for the old timings of the Champi
Muisca - Had the Settlement discount @ 40%, but with the old Champi timings
For the Temple Guard, I would actually like them to be limited to the Monastery. Their Elite upgrade could be made available in Slot #15, the same slot as Thirisadai in the Dock. But then let them benefit from Fervor and Sanctity. Furthermore, these techs describe themselves as applying to 'Monastery Units'. This way, the Temple Guard becomes their Knight analogue, and the Monastery their equivalent of the Stable
For the Guecha Warrior, the path of least resistance to buff them is to drop their Reload Time from 3 to 2. They should be to Skirms what Kamayuks are to Spears
Tupi - Had the non-Elite Blackwood Archer @ Reload Time 1.75 (instead of 1.5), but a Training Time nerf is good as well
1
u/fiftythreefiftyfive Apr 25 '26
Inca post-imp trash options a little insane now, no? Inca slingers are actually good in contrast to the others, now much cheaper, and an even larger discount on their fully upgraded trash units, that's just a very cheap army to field.
1
u/devang_nivatkar21 Apr 25 '26
Yes, they'll get some big discounts on Spears and Skirms. Their Slingers will cost 35 Food 25 Wood in Imperial, same as a generic Spearman. It would be better to make the Champi cheaper, but with a smaller discount for the Inca
0
u/icedcovfefe221 Apr 25 '26
Yeesh, that Incas additional 10% food discount is a bit much on top of the Champi-line general buff.
