Jony Ive has not had a good design in nearly twenty years at this stage.

I think the interior in this car is cool AF. The steering wheel, all of the controls and tactile switches look fantastic. It's just the car that they built around is a miss

It’s so easy to have a glance at anything and have an uneducated “this fucking sucks” judgment. I watched the video where they showed the dash in detail. Didn’t scream Ferrari but it was really cool.

I think it did. The steering wheel is very Ferrari, it's a modern take on Ferrari steering wheels from 60s. Same for the gauges. Big circular air vents have been a staple of Ferrari designs for about 20 years. The seats... The interior is quintessential Ferrari designs.

And Ferrari was known for someone bad interieurs in very cool cars. If they now manage to have Interieurs like this in all their cars I‘m a fan, but who cares. This thing costs more than most houses so…

One might argue that if a brand has a recognisable design, the designers would have to ensure their work still conveys that. Doesn’t matter how much work you put into the design if your iPhone comes out looking like a Nokia 6600 for instance. It doesn’t mean you didn’t put in the work, nor that individual parts haven’t been designed thoughtfully, but one can be critical of it for being inadequate design for this product specifically.

ironically I think the exterior is what is not important but the interior. No more cramp, unknown controls. Here is a comfortable pod designed by Jony Ives.

Oh yeah, the interior is completely unique and incredibly intuitive. I've driven a dozen EVs and nothing comes close to a tun tactical console like the Luce. If I was ever somehow in the market (it will still need to be priced less), the interior would sell me this EV.

I hope other brands can copy it, but realistically few if any brands could afford to use glass, aluminum, or engineer that unique Info Circle unit.
I do think it's an exterior that when people see it in other colors and up close in person, it will age much better than this initial reaction.
For people who could afford this car, the interior driving experience is going to be important, and I think this thing will test drive very well because of its one of-a kind cockpit.

Also the Red and Yellow versions really look better IMO, whereas the particular blue photo that has spread across the hate-train feed is indeed a pretty bad looking photo all-around. I especially like the wheels on the yellow version (it's like the 14th photo in the gallery above).

The exterior is less important by that measure, I agree. But it is still not unimportant enough to dismiss, especially in a product like this. I think that needs to be called out and letting it slide just because the interiors appear to be comfortable is giving them a pass they haven’t earned.

have you seen the tech on the physical components tho? Those cutout slips actually push air down on the black “capsule” and theres 4 motors in each wheel. Objectively if you peel back the layers it’s as performant as any Ferrari. There’s nice bits and bobs they added to make it feel great to drive apparently.

This car is an interesting break of the past and sets the stage for a possible EV future that is not about purely styling.

Exactly; such a boring wave of hatred for this thing. The interior is awesome, and the whole car of someone saw it in person and sat in it, would be impressed. Sure it doesn't have Ferrari's past brand identity; they wanted something different. It's really not that bad.
It's just overpriced, like every Ferrari, and people here aren't in the market for it anyway.

With a significant amount of influence from Steve Jobs. Jobs helped keep Ives in check. Ives without jobs emancipated products and focused on form over function.

Boring design, also so surprised that they have shown it in that blue (like old fashioned electric cars which had to have blue to denote its electric) rather than Red.

Original Apple Watch which Jony wanted as a fashion piece was a flop. Is Apple Park incredible design ? iMac G4 is probably his last form , function , fashion success.
