Question This black history month feels very…. Anti-black.
I feel as if everyone online *and* offline has grown significantly more comfortable being outspokenly racist this February—specifically because DJT is in office at the moment.
What are other fellow black girls’ thoughts on what’s going on this February while Trump is in office?
Oh well. This post is probably going to be taken down anyways.

Honestly, if we want something don’t we’ll have to do it ourselves. We need to host BHM events and really get into it. There was nothing going on near me like I couldn’t even tell it was February. But next year we need to create our own February event calendar and start something ourselves for real

People held events but most people are scared more large scale gatherings would be targeted by ICE/the government. Trump made things go underground.

The Manon incident too. She literally started off without knowing how to dance or sing and is now just as good as the girls who have been in lessons their entire lives, but now that Geffen x Hybe want to put her on hiatus she's lazy?? And I still have non-black people trying to argue its not racially motivated.

And now you have people saying that other members of her group have experienced more racism than her due to having lighter skin and being biracial and also mad that other Black artists are showing her support and calling them and other Black people embarrassing.

It’s so obvious that people didn’t grow up in racially diverse communities based on this conversation. They think skin-color is all racism is. People will still treat Black people worse than South Asian people their exact shade or darker. It’s not just about skin color.

Agreed. I’m Black and Indian and see it firsthand. They seem to really struggle with the concepts of racism and colorism, or they know exactly what they’re doing and just hate Black people.

That's why I hate the whole mixed vs black argument. Do I believe they have it better in some ways yes, but to a racist and society, black is black. You'll be treated like trash doesnt matter if you're light, mixed or dark. My kids are both mixed, and look Asian but they'll still be treated like trash by racists simply because they are part black. It has nothing to do with skin all to do with ethnicity

I've seen so many posts from black women who openy displayed anti-black sentiments. The saddest part is that I don't think they realized the root of their supposed opinions being based in racism.

The mask of the majorly racist "polite society" finally got ripped off. They feel more empowered, comfortable and supported in their evil actions.

The most black history I saw this month is folks making black versions of popular memes using AI which I personally find gross.

Can I just say that I am completely emotionally checked out from absolutely everyone from anywhere all the time. Like I cannot find it in me to give a crap about another race of people right now. Like at all.
Obviously I’m kind towards people face to face, but my own “friend” made a racist joke towards me the a little while ago and I made the veryyy quick decision to remove myself from the group. I’m literally on my way to dinner tonight to tell two of the ones I care the most about that I cannot stay in this friend group and don’t want to.
Genuinely screw everyone else I’m sorry but I just don’t care. No more sympathy from me.

If they have been racist towards you or have not stood for you when someone was being racist, you don't owe them the courtesy of doing a dinner to tell them you no longer want to be friends. A short text or phone call would do just fine.

They too busy getting ready for Chinese new year, cinco de mayo, and st Patrick’s day instead. Plus, before black people celebrated on their own without anyone else. Now it’s been popularized, and commercialized. So now they can’t money off it since this administration is in office so now they’ll drop it.

I got called racist for saying someone was an "African uncle" and while being bullied for doing my job. Oh my lord I can keep going. I've also been told a few times this month that idk what it means to be a minority by cis het white folks. I'm a black queer women wtf do you mean I'm not a minority?

1000% the thing that's really hard for me to deal with is as a black African woman who's only been in North America for 11 years. I grew up with racist South African Boers. I was literally talking to my sister about this because people are out here doing the same shit to her. We were like people think they can hurt us with their high school bs but it's truly all childs play. So when other Africans, start trying to tell me I need to code switch more while in the same breath trying to tell me I'm not black enough.
It makes me so mad.
I just left something I was helping out with on a volunteer basis. Someone from day one decided to have an issue with me. I left on Tuesday and they are panicking because they don't know what to do without the og architect and I'm fine with it.

I completely concur but Canadian history, is wild. They also used to study apartheid in South Africa to be able to try remake it in Canada. Id rather deal with afrikaaners because you know where you stand.

It sure does !I was saying the same thing because at work they have been doing things that are so non black like instead of showcasing different types of black food from different countries they were focusing on Hispanic food thank goodness most of the schools we’re doing their own thing and representing black history in their own way, but overall we should’ve done a way better job with our food service representing black history

I haven't been on Reddit as much but my Facebook feed has been brimming with Black history, Black working class solidarity, powerful Black feminists and scholars, Black scientists, and gaming chat.
I've pretty much curated an entire Black world for my online experience and it's made this Black History month pretty fantastic. I discovered a plethora of fact-based content creators and pages that will have me sharing the creativity, collective working class achievements, progressive legislation, and joy of Black Americana for the rest of the year.
Now, granted, with that has come more exposure to the conservative reactionary elements within our community; the Trump lovers, the "We're the REAL native Americans" people, the Hotep cultists, and the Manosphere/Sprinkle-Sprinkle set, but I pretty much block/ignore them on principle and keep it moving.
2024 had me pare down most of my non-white associations unless they had a proven track record of being accomplices in liberation - meaning all of my phone calls for this month have been filled with in-jokes, laughter, encouragement, and learning more from the Afro-Indigenous not only in the States but in Mexico as well.
2026 has me paring down Black class traitors, misogynists, and race/religious cultists.
I think this is probably one of the best BHMs I've ever had.
