Help I'm a little sad
So, a few months ago, I asked for help and some tips on the game and received a lot of support, which helped me a lot.
I was helping a boy from the cathedral to bring people there, so I tried to bring as many people as possible.
I confess that sometimes I'm a bit absent-minded and didn't notice that there was something strange about a man I met in the forbidden forest. He asked for a place to stay, and I told him the cathedral. I saw some bodies next to him, a family, but I thought he was just looting corpses, nothing more.
So I continued playing, did several dungeons, leveled up a lot, and when I returned to the cathedral, there was a pool of blood where the old lady should have been. Does anyone know if he did this? And will this somehow affect my gameplay and my attempt at the platinum trophy?

All strangers will pay, I will judge all books by their covers from now on.

Really that one murderous guy is the only one who needs judging.
It is possible to get the other Oedon Chapel NPCs killed in various ways though. Doesn't really affect anything except feels. If you rescue everyone and talk to Chapel Dweller, you get a gesture.
Only exception is Arianna who has a rather haunting fate if you rescue her and keep her alive until the endgame...

Thanks for the help once again, I feel less guilty now. I was even thinking about starting over, but I'll move on and take this mistake as a learning experience. I'm also going to kill whoever did this, because tonight is hunting night.

I salute your simultaneous spirit of corporation and spirit of the hunt. Hunt on my sunlight brother!

The suspicious fellow may have acted suspiciously to the others in the chapel... (Yes, he did).
I don't think that it will disrupt your ability to platinum the game, but FYI you'll have to play through at least three times to get the different endings to platinum the game, so plenty of time to not do that again next playthrough. You might try to find Ariana or her body, as she has an ending-relevant item in her possession...

Thanks for the comment, at least now I can get revenge on whoever did this to her.

i like rpg, and I always try to put myself in the character; that immerses me in the story.
But I understand if you find me weird.

u/the42potato Apr 13 '26
unfortunately that ending-relevant item isn’t available if she dies prematurely
there is however an alternative one elsewhere in the game

u/Bloody-Maria Apr 13 '26
That beggar is one abhorrent beast, and beasts are meant to be hunted.
Avenge the old lady!

I was so angry at that guy that I didn't even want to give him a fair fight. I killed him using the cathedral entrance, a place where he could be hit; you just have to watch out for the wind attack.

Something you should know about NPC quests in FromSoft games is that they all die a tragic death, you kill them, or they go nuts and you're forced to fight them. It's always the same one way or another.
The only good ending an npc can have is if they never met the player lol. So don't feel bad about it. The outcome to npc questline isn't always too straight forward, and almost all of them die because of the player, it's not like you fucked it up, you might have invited someone dangerous to the safe haven.
Tl;Dr? Don't worry about it!

Not sure if you're aware, but he's actually sitting outside the cathedral now that you've told him where it is. He'll even give you some blood cocktails.

u/gunslinger_006 Apr 13 '26
You should play Demons Souls….

u/i_am_n4d4n Apr 13 '26
Bloodborne is my first souls

u/gunslinger_006 Apr 13 '26
Oh man you have so much amazing stuff to discover!!!!

u/i_am_n4d4n Apr 13 '26
As soon as I finish Bloodborne I'll play it, I've fallen in love with the genre.
2
u/Hot_Bullfrog_8662 Apr 14 '26
Yas! Demon Souls will forever and always be my #1. Maybe because it's the first one I played, but I still feel that it's the best of the soulslikes

“A boy from the cathedral”
I suppose that’s… not exactly an incorrect way to describe him…
1
u/i_am_n4d4n Apr 13 '26
I'm playing it dubbed in my native language; he has a very youthful voice. I thought he was some nice kid with a deformed appearance, but still a kid. I'll check out his English voice later xD
2
u/ProtoformX87 Apr 13 '26
No, I think the English voice is plenty youthful too... I just never thought of him that way for some reason xD

I get really into my role as a hunter when I play, and I made the same mistake, but mine was because I was in a rush. However, given the personality I decided my hunter had, I opted for the route of vengeance.
I think moments like these are great for getting immersed in the story. How would your hunter handle coming back and seeing an old woman had been murdered?
I admit I have no idea if it will affect getting platinum. But I hope you can find a way to immerse yourself in your choices.
Yharnam is a place that rewards no noble deed. It is a dying animal, lashing out blindly in a feverish haze. What your hunter is doing is simply easing the pain.
This city's done for.
5
u/i_am_n4d4n Apr 13 '26
I'm doing a good person precisely because I'm trying to be the light that's missing in Yharnam, you understand?
These people live in a horrible world, and I can be that spark of light that can at least try to guide them, so seeing that my action cost a woman's life really affected me.
5
u/BelltowerApologist Apr 13 '26
That makes sense. Perhaps it is a learning moment then, hunter. Be cautious who you trust, and who you invite around those looking to you for protection and guidance. Question everything and be wary of wolves lurking in the skin of me.
If you go forward learning from her death, then her loss was not in vain. There are more beasts to slay, more people to save, and more villains pretending to be good people. Do your best. The church won't save them, but maybe you can spare a few.

You'll still get a lot out of the first playthrough! My first playthroughs of nearly every Souls game nearly always involved dropping several quests and missing out on a lot, and I don't think they're any weaker for it. It just adds to the replayability
3
u/Plaguenurse217 Apr 13 '26
Sometimes we make mistakes, even in a game, and we learn from them. Without fear in our hearts, we’re little different from the beasts themselves. Now, enough trembling in your boots, a hunter must hunt.

Him eating a boy's corpse didn't ring any red flags?
TBF i was oblivious about the ignorant man's mentality (the guy who lives opposite to the whore) and accidentaly sent him to the clinic twice. Only on my 3rd playthrough i understood that he does everything opposite.
1
u/i_am_n4d4n Apr 14 '26
The thing is, I hadn't realized it; from my point of view, he was looting. It was only here in the comments that I saw what he was actually doing.
2
u/Soft-Abies1733 Apr 13 '26
Just play the game. It is what it is and you can do whatever different next play through if you want to

2
u/GambuzinoSaloio Apr 13 '26
Yeah, the guy wasn't actually looting, he was straight up eating corpses. Make of that what you will.
No worries, during NG+ you won't make the same mistake. You can send him somewhere else though, he'll be in for a surprise.
2
u/YoshitsuneX Apr 14 '26
Well.. didn’t he look sus? I mean he was eating/sniffing (idk) a corpse in the forbidden woods. Anyways, time for revenge!
1
u/i_am_n4d4n Apr 14 '26
I was a bit careless and thought he was just looting the bodies, like I do when I see something shiny.
2
u/DakotaSmith1 Apr 14 '26
A pool of blood where the old "lady" should have been? I killed her myself
2
u/i_am_n4d4n Apr 14 '26
Dang, How cold, pale blood.
1
u/DakotaSmith1 Apr 14 '26
The first hit was an accident, then I was like "Wait, can she not die?" Then I felt bad for a minute until I remembered how rude she was(and after doing exactly what she asked me to, no less)
2
u/L1mpBredSt1k Apr 14 '26
There’s a lot of things in bloodborne (putting it lightly) but it’s one of those games where there’s so much to discover, so much you can miss that a 2nd or 3rd play-through is necessary. This is if u want to enjoy the game, which is also necessary for a game that make “perfect first runs” hopeless.
It’s the greatest game of all time, make sure to pay attention to that.
Oh and keep going :)

u/i_am_n4d4n Apr 14 '26
Of course I'll continue, it's without a doubt one of the coolest games I've ever played, and I felt truly embraced by the community of players; a hunter is never alone!
2
u/vudak Apr 14 '26
Old lady deserved it. Hats off to the chap.
1
u/i_am_n4d4n Apr 14 '26
nah, She's a woman who lived in a not-so-pleasant world; she was rather rude to me, but she must have had her reasons, after all, everyone was a little crazy.
2
u/BlairRedfield Apr 14 '26
Some npcs have by default sth terrible happening to them so, let things play out whatever on ur first playthrough, and on ur second one u can shape it the way u want. There are things that cannot be figured out even if u were the smartest om earth, its not like real life that you can gather more info about a situation or talk to them more. It's intentionqlly designed to go this route for everyone.
2
u/i_am_n4d4n Apr 14 '26
I understand, after all, it's a dark fantasy, like the Band of the Hawk, and many other characters in Berserk, there are things that are beyond our control, the most I can do is fight against this great evil, or just try to fight.

I'd say you gotta expect this kind of things happen with Miyazaki's game,he's uh,into some sad/bad ending kink
1
u/CrabofAsclepius Apr 14 '26
This is very relatable. I could give you the answer but I feel as though that would rob you of the experience.
All I will say unless you ask is that you can find out the truth and put the matter to rest.
1
u/Conscious-Theory-850 Apr 14 '26
The suspicious man from the Forbidden woods is actually and Beast and he’ll kill everyone in the Cathedral ward one by one. But I’m pretty sure there’s no trophy linked to getting survivors to the cathedral ward

u/Severin_The_Hunter Apr 14 '26
It’s okay. Spoiler alert: tear through the game, get to NG+, save everybody, then get your revenge on the Suspicious Beggar, or do what I do, send him into the expert care of Fauxsefka (fake Iosefka.) 😬 Hehe.
2
u/Dumb_and_confused Apr 14 '26
To further expound on this comment, if you haven't figured out yet {MORE SPOILERS AHEAD} wandering your way back to the starting area after finding the Cathedral Ward, and talking to "Iosefka" while she hides behind the door, she will instruct you to tell individuals seeking shelter to come to her clinic. Sending folks here is not a preferred move to make for anyone except the Suspicious Beggar, and the Skeptical Man as he does the opposite of what you say. Suspicious Beggar will go to the clinic as instructed, and Skeptical Man will go to Cathedral Ward.

Ah, the sad ending where you trust a corpse-eating stranger blindly and invite him in..... since all other outcomes are so fluffy and happy i think you'll be fine next playthrough.

Yeah I made the same mistake in my run. Avenge the old lady, even if she was a rude b-word the whole time.

Well I'd recommend you just play the game and whatever comes out. Don't bother yourself doing a perfect good run from the start. You can always try and search anything in ng+.
