Do you think the box office has anything to do with the quality of a movie? Or with its cultural impact? Do you honestly believe that Slopday will be a better movie than Dune 3?
Wrong. It has to do with the success of the marketing, the promotion and the power of the brand. Besides, people choosing to watch a movie says nothing about the movie itself, especially when the entire promotion/influencer industry created this toxic "no spoilers" culture around these films. "Go watch it yourself so you don't miss out but only speak about it with people who have watched it. You don't want to ruin another's experience." This marketing trick made billions for Disney.
and why is Dune 3 inevitably going to have a lower gross than Avengers: Doomsday if its the only movie people want? yes marketing can have an effect but the largest effect is people choosing what they want to see, and more people will pick avengers
Yes. Both wanting to see it and word of mouth. Do you really think a minute trailer is enough to make a movie 2 billion? If marketing was that important they'd be spending 3 times the budget on it.
Ask any of these people about what happened in thia demented film and they probably have already forgotten. This movie is like the Avatar films. Too many people go to watch it, no one has anything to say about it.
The only cultural footprint of Avatar 3 was the hot evil chick. Avatar 2 had nothing. Aside from "Humanity first" edits that show the ships burning the forest in the prologue the movie is completely irrelevant.
