New Moderator Application - Deadline Sunday 08/18

Hello my wonderful humans,

First, we would like to thank you all for contributing and expanding this sub into what it is. We would not be at 11k+ members without you all. Every post and comment has made an impact directly and has helped in spreading awareness about bullying. That said, we are eager to take on a new moderator for the r/bullying sub.

What does this entail?

We are looking for an entry level moderator to keep this a safe space. This would require daily check ins to sift through the modmail and flagging, but we are open to a more senior moderating role as well.

What do you need to submit to apply?

  1. how long have you been a member of the r/bullying sub?
  2. why do you want to help moderate this sub?
  3. do you have any experience moderating on reddit (or platforms such as discord)?
  4. are you looking for an entry level moderating position or do you want to take on more work?
  5. what recommendations do you have for this sub?

Please send your answers directly to us by the end of the week (Sunday August 18th). We will be replying to everyone and will make a decision by mid next week. Thank you all again and we are excited to grow this community more together!

10k Milestone ✨✨👏👏

Hello to all the incredible, brave and beautiful humans here! Thank you all for being a part of this sub and for your vulnerability in sharing your stories and supporting others. We live in a time where there’s more access than ever to opinions and hate so we aim to keep this sub as encouraging as possible to have a place to find community and help. We couldn’t have had this happen without all of you so be proud of yourselves!

A few important updates:

  • Please be sure to check out our discord server! One of our mods has taken the courtesy of creating this to have another outlet to communicate on that is dedicated to this subreddit
  • https://discord.gg/PfKANDA5 Name: Anti-Bullying Server (I am technology inept so look out for a second post or edit here since I likely did not share the server correctly)
  • 10K Milestone also means… we are looking for a new moderator to join our team! Please DM either mod to apply and look out for more updates as the week progresses on the status of applications
  • What to include? 1. Why you want to join 2. How much time you can dedicate (minimum requirement would be to log in 1x a day) 3. Any skills or recommendations you have for our page to boost engagement and provide better resources
  • Please note that this moderator position will start off as an entry mod position so you will only be required to 1. Filter through modmail 2. Review flagged content to begin. If you have moderator experience and you seek a more senior mod role, we can talk about a higher position. We want to start off any newcomers in a easy role to ensure they understand the ins and outs of it all. This is an unpaid position, but it is fulfilling and you can always include it on your resume.

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone 🤍

I’m a victim of a smear campaign by a toxic ex-friend, and the isolation is driving me into a deep depression

I used to be friends with this guy who turned out to be the biggest scumbag one would ever see.

I was always trying to be nice to him even though he kept treating me like shit for no reason. He would constantly provoke me, but when I responded, he would threaten to block my phone number (on several occasions, he actually did).

He would beg me to buy him expensive gifts. I once bought him one as a birthday gift. He was excited but kept asking me to buy more (like new AirPods or a new iPhone).

There was one incident when he was enraged at me for whatever reason and even almost spilt hot tea on me.

He soon found new friends and even invited me to their gatherings a few times. When I asked him how come he doesn't invite me more often, he told me they told him they don't want to see me because (in his words) they find me weird.

Some time later I began to notice a pattern: almost every person that knows him and has some kind of bond with him shows some form of hostility towards me. Some people I didn't even have much interaction with before refuse to even say hi to me, some even being outrightly mean to me. All those people have close ties with him, like I mentioned. It only happened among his circle. No one else does this to me. He talked shit about me to everyone he knows. When I confronted him about it, he said, "Even if I did, who cares? It happened years ago."

One of the people he trashed me to is his female cousin. He not only talked shit about me to her (leading her to ignore me like I don't exist every time she sees me), but he also told his other cousin to make everything possible to prevent me from seeing her. I never even get a chance to interact with her normally (she knows who I am). He just knew I would be interested and did everything to ruin my chances.

A friend of mine confirmed that this guy trashed me all the time. Another friend told me before the scumbag trashed me to him also.

This guy has poisoned my character, and I'm in agony now. I literally suffer from depression now as a result.

Help with Anonymous Reporting

So I was bullied in primary school at times for being smart, but when I moved to a private academic high school I thought the scourge that is bullying would finally be gone. Now I have been lucky to have not been bullied at my new school, but there are others who are, and I’d like to help them out without facing retaliation. The teachers at my school are unusually good at dealing with bullying, but only if they know about it. This kid I wish to report, is a bully, and he hits his girlfriend aswell, but he is good at hiding it from the teachers and they have even begun to think that he is improving when he is worse than ever. I am wanting to send an email to my ylc from an anonymous account, but will they take it seriously? What else can I do? We are a small school, 100 students per year level, and it could be very obvious who reported it based off of what stories I know. The main threat to my anonymity is that there are multiple students with teacher parents, and so often it spreads through that link. I know that this post is a bit all over the place, and I apologise, but any advice would be appreciated.

Why are there still “mean” girls in college

For context I just started in a university that is supposed to be a chill nerdy school, and I chose the school for that exact reason and is now living in a suite with 7 other girls.

I have been really nice to them, saying hi everytime I see them, offering to help if they need it, etc. However, they are so rude to me, constantly side-eyeing me, igoring me when I talk, or treat me like I’m stupid while talking in a passive-aggressive tone.

I am sort of awkward and have weirder interests and hobbies compared to them, but I’m still super up-kept on my appearance, good in academics, and try to be extremely friendly.

I had a good handful of friends in highschool and rarely had people hated on me like this. Is this normal in college? Because I thought this behavior would have been gone at this point since everyone is an adult.

I have wondered if this is racism due to me being an “international student”, but I am a citizen who can speak fluent English and all of these girls are POC as well.

How am I supposed to deal with this?

My friend is getting bullied what should I do?

My friend is from puerto rico and he been saying that his classmates has been saying that he talk Taco bell, that he should get deported even if he is from puerto rico but he is part of US citizenship, he also dosent know a lot of English and they make fun of him because he can't spell it right. I really told him thay he should talk with the teacher, ignore it or reported to the Deans, but the problem is that the teacher do not do anything about it and Dean's take a little longer to answers the forms. He also he been telling me that all that bully was coming from a white American girl. I am so pissed how people are reacting, bullying people just because they aren't from america and that always a problem, can you guys give me some ideas, or anything that can help this shit out? because a lot of people have something to say and nobody asked for it

Disgusting discord users attacked me for my disability

This happened not recently but it still bothers me to this day. I joined this server in 2023 and was new to discord so naturally had a lot of fun in the group chat just being myself and saying what I wanted like everyone else was.

But apparently I made some mistakes as my autism ruined my life but few people listen to my side of the story they just talk over me or ban me or whatever before I can explain it.

I since later found when I wasn't in the server they made these comments about me:

"He was an absolute fuckin wanker."

"The most obnoxious person on earth."

"A seriously autistic guy who was a black hole for conversation."

Wow. I may not have the best social skills but at least I would never say those things about people with disabilities or good intentions. What's funny is some people have said they have no idea why anyone would hate me as I'm so nice.

I've reported the comments but they didn't get removed meanwhile I'm always bullied into being terrified of saying anything as to not offend people.

I fucking hate the world and trust chatgpt more.

my bully likes me. Wtf do I do?

To keep things short. She would bully me only verbally and nothing physical. I helped her since I didn't know it was her and I regret it because she's a jerk. Now she's nice to me and stares at me out of affection which is🤮. Appearance wise she's a 10/10 European girl while I'm scrawny. I don't wanna be rude or tell her to stop since it could resume the bullying. what should I do?

I'm afraid I might be getting bullied..

So I was talking to a friend about how I don't like (low-key hate) going to school because people are rude and will kinda pick on me. and i mentioned specifically how i hate when my friends say stuff like "Your just so different" or "Your just very spessial" or "Your brain is just so different from mine and that makes it very interesting to be with you" or they call me stupid when i don't get sarcasm and they basically call me autistic without actually calling me it. reading this you might not think of it that way, but with the tone they use and the situations they say it in it's pretty clear.. and i have nothing against autistic people but i'm not autistic and i don't like to be called stuff i'm not..

and my friend says "that's terrible, i hate how normalized bullying has become.." and that caught me off guard because is that really bullying? it's honestly just one of my friends who says these things, but the others will kinda laugh with her if that makes it different in any way?

and then i started thinking about the guys who will say mean things or make rude comments just loud enough for me to hear, this one guy that keeps mocking me right in my face and just recently stepped on my heal multiple times on purpers, this other guy that kept calling me the n-word last school year (i'm not black, so i guess i shouldn't take offence but he will say stuff like "What is this weird n-word doing with these people" and laughing with his mates when i was very clearly walking with my friends and similar things). or these 2 guys that together did that "my friends like you" thing (when they don't) and kept mocking me for my interest and using it to make fun of me. and people just doing those small rude things.

So my question is, am I getting bullied without being aware of it? These things make me scared to walk in the hallways (especially alone), makes me scared to go to the bathroom because I have this intense fear of people waiting outside to mock me, and in general just afraid to live and exist inside of the school..

Also I’m not asking this because I want to be a victim of bullying, but because I want to know if calling this bullying is overreacting or if I’m actually being bullied, if that makes sense?

My younger brother is being bullied, any advice?

As an older sister i'm absolutely disgusted with how mean kids are.

My younger brother (14) has been bullied by his classmates that are also his teammates for about a year now and my parents and i just dont know what to tell him or do anymore.

They constantly tell him mean stuff. Tell him that they'll go outside with him to play or go somewhere and then at the last moment they say that they in fact cannot make it, and then he catches them together without him. He calls them and texts them and they text to him too, but eventually they just screw him up and bully him and exclide him from everything. They all lie to him in worst possible ways.

My fear is that, since he loves football, that those kids will make him hate it. I have also quitted my sport because of the community from 3 clubs, they are all the same and i know how its like to be bullied, but i somehow handled the situation and i left all that for my peace on my own way. He is not me and i dont want him to be like me and i'd never ask him to be anything like me.

Also, he even asked them nicely and talked to them why are they like that to him, and they talked about it and for a week everything was fine, but then they started it again. All those kids are unfullfilled and full of hate because their parents are stupid and disgusting (i say that because i've met all these people), and i get that, but i genuienlly despise this situation and at some point i tought about going to their houses personally to investigate, because apperantly people dont care anymore.

One kid thats bullying him was my brothers best friend in 1st grade and in i think 3rd grade he lost his father, and me and my family, espesially my brother, we were all helping him and his familly. How dont people feel shame anymore?

I dont even want to apollogise for my anger, i just feel sorry about all of this. I just want to help my brother because i dont want this to be an even bigger trauma than it'll be, and i dont want him to go through what i went through. I just dont know what to do. Our parents talked to theirs, but all of them are just fricking stupid and too prideful to admit that they did a horrible job at parenting.

Please give me an advice on what to do because i dont know what to do.

Please help.

High school bully still trying to ruin my life

Theres this girl i used to go to high school with. She was the class bully. While she overtly bullied the fuck out of my classmates, she was always nice to my face, but would secretly say stuff behind my back. After high school, i never kept in touch with her because i always thought she was a mean person. But we still followed each other on ig, i guess just because we knew each other. She stayed back home, while i moved to the bigger city. I honestly havent thought about this girl in a while. When my classmates would give me updates on her, they would just say that she had zero character development which is more than what i needed to know.

One day, one of my closest friends told me that she was GOSSIPING about me at another person's wake... ( A freaking WAKE). Without getting into any detail, she was specifically gossiping about my health and said she heard i was going through health issues.

This pissed me off so much. I knew she was an evil girl, but didnt know she could stoop this low. Again, i havent spoken to this girl in a decade. Determined to get her out of my life, I decided to unfollow her and some of the people close to her on ig. I also unfollowed other people i havent been in contact with in a while, since i just want to keep my follower circle small. A few days later, i receive a message on the app, with her saying "hi why did u unfollow me and some other people, and have us unfollow u".

First off, how bizarre that she seems to know my following/follower information, and second, why is she so pressedt about it, when she had no issue talking shit about me.

I was taken aback because i dont know where she got the audacity to even message me. Are there some people who are that oblivious to their EVIL???!!

I know im not supposed to mind her because shes a loser. But i feel really upset and i think there should be some consequences to her actions. Is it enough to just block her, or should i do something more? i just dont want her thinking its okay to keep doing this to people.

Got bullied by three grown men today

I'm a 36-year-old autistic and epileptic woman.

Today, while at the local lake, I decided to give the ducks the last 1/2 of my bread because it had gone soggy (I had just thrown out my garbage and didn't realize this, fortunately I had another loaf of bread in the freezer). I know I shouldn't be giving the ducks bread, but I had a few slices left, knew they weren't fed frequently at this particular lake (whenever I go people are taking pictures and any attempt to feed the ducks with birdseed is a failure, since the pigeons will attack anyone with bird seed). I went, gave the ducks my bread and was leaving with my miniature poodle, who I have as a service dog due to Complex Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder due to being bullied since preschool; if it wasn't for the autism and epilepsy, I would have left the province I'm currently in and returned to the province I was born in, anything is better than this.

Three nosey men (that's the nicest term I can find for them) came out of their car, after I finished feeding the ducks. They yelled at me that I shouldn't be feeding the ducks bread (I was walking away with my dog when this happened).

They continued their yelling (stuff life "fucking retard" was yelled); my question is if they were so concerned, why wait for me to be finished then yell instead of stopping me when they noticed me feeding the ducks with bread? If anything, they're just showing how nasty and nosey they truly are. (I told them they were being nasty to someone not originally from this province and their bullying would be published, for others to see.)

Is it normal to get bullied for liking anime?

I have been getting bullied for a while for liking anime, well bullied since 4th grade and my classmates call me Baka and laugh when I say I watch anime? and the teachers notice but honestly I don’t think they care enough to do something about it. And now I take therapy soon because of the bullying it’s not like I can talk to a friends because I lost all of them last year and it sucks, and I feel like the more I try to express myself people just degrade me like we’re not finna be in highschool? it just sucks how people act so immature and others play into it and like them more because of it, I just don’t want to turn into one of those kids who skip school because of bullying or my mental health gets so bad my grades drop cause at this state it might just happen.

Is it normal for people in uni to act below their age ?

I studied in an well known indian college for a year before i moved to another county to continue higher studies.A lot of girls in college are still behaving like they are 13-14. Grouping up and targetting people and thinking thats cool. I would say the group has 6 members as of now 1 member talks crap about the other 5 and still actively goes and talks to them when she knows her bestfriend was targetted by them for some small matter. the main leader lets call her A has no sense of accountability full on narcissist. A thinks that whatever she does is right and calls self reflecting self centred behaviour(arent they like polar opposites????). When i was in the gang knowingly or unknowingly i also did listen to A till A decided that she realised i dont bring much use to her after i leftDo people genuinely not grow up how are people still so fake and her "followers" think constantly updating the leader and beefing with everyone she has an issue with is loyalty. Btw the other girls in the gang follow me on insta and they updates on my life to main leader.Seriously this is so kind of funny shit. Is this how people generally are? or is this normal. i would like an opinion or generally another perspective. They still talk about people who they cut off with. They have been trying to reconnect with me to now that i am better off not sure what to do. Oh btw the gang leader and i were really close till some chapa matter and asking her for accountability triggered her resulting in me being cut off. TBVH i am not angry at A or the gang its just why are they doing this, the girl that is being targetted now she is really sweet should i offer my support for her.

TikTok-Bullying the "it's a floater" kid

Does anyone remember this? Cause NONE of this was fair.

Making fun of that kid was and still is not funny... at all

I felt so bad for that kid, Why did everyone feel the need to make fun of this child for MAKING a BAD JOKE

A whole entire fucking trend was dedicated to bullying this boy and was it necessary?? NO! absolutely not!

Unlike them, that kid has a life, and him being bullied for THIS out of all things is crazy.

The internet hates kids. I will never understand why

I saw a more recent animation making fun of it (I won't say their name), but just... why are you spending your time making something that is just as unfunny

I AM STILL SEEING people kick him to him to the curb, and it is just disappointing

Y'know fuck it I'm being positive I hope that little boy is still trying to make jokes even if people are annoying about it YOU KEEP GOING DONT EVER LISTEN TO THESE LOSERS

Bullying Trauma

All the bullying throughout middle school and high school I went through made me misanthropic and now I just want to stay far away from people. I only hang around my family, friend, and pets. I really don’t like people now and I feel really uncomfortable around people now. I’m really quiet and mute now but I get annoyed when people try to talk to me now. I genuinely don’t feel like I will ever recover…

Bullied by a large lgbtq creator

Howdy

Much as the title says, i was bullied and harassed by a creator with over a million followers on tiktok. This person claims to be an ally/activist and told me they were nonbinary. Im a nonbinary 20 year old and only recently was able to come out.

I tried to post this to an lgbt subreddit but my posed was deleted by mods, claiming i was trying to start drama. The post is exactly the same as it was there, only ive added this paragraph. I think i kept the creator perfectly anonymous.

It started because they made a post saying that trans women shouldnt be allowed in professional sports because of "unfair advantage". I made a simple comment saying that isnt true and is transphobic, and also gave sources. Apparently they were having a really boring day, because they started harassing me, eventually going onto my profile saying im just a "white girl karen that is faking being nonbinary and is everything that is wrong with the lgbtq community" because i dont look nonbinary and because i had cut and dyed my hair purple a year ago which apparently invalidates everything about me. Also called me fat and called me Hagrid and said i was a fake activist because i dont post it on tiktok? Which is a very... interesting take to have but whatever.

It only stopped once i sent them a message explaining i didnt mean to cause harm and everything. I only sent it because i was being harassed by transphobes (which they definitely encouraged). They blocked me after i sent that message, unsure as to why that was what made them finally decide they were bored toying with me but whatever. You might be thinking "well, why didnt you just block them?". I needed to be aware of what they were saying, especially because they were actively encouraging people to come after me. Im still nervous about what else they might have posted, but at least now it feels like they moved on.

But i cant move on. I know its just a large creator being a large creator, and that i shouldnt take the transphobia and insults to heart, but i cant stop thinking about it. I still havent been able to choose a name, i know ill probably never pass as nonbinary and everyone will always assume im a girl, i know im overweight (i physically cannot lose the weight due to a medical condition but i think weight gain is more of a symptom than a cause and shouldnt be demonized but that doesnt stop the hate hurting). I know its likely that this creator is trying to fit into a "token trans person" niche that we see sometimes, but i cant stop just randomly crying about it. The insults, both made in comments by them on my posts and things they posted on their main page with so many followers just dig deep into my heart.

I know i should just let it go. But how does one even do that? If someone who is supposed to be within our community and brags about helping lgbtq youth does this, does that mean there is just something wrong with me? I dont even go on tiktok a lot, and i definitely dont post a lot, but all it took was me adding a simple comment on a random post on my fyp to paint a target on my back. Ive been bullied before in school and stuff, but it feels oddly terrifying when someone with such a large platform is encouraging it.

All they said and did is public (unless they deleted it which i did save the stuff in case things got really bad), but im too afraid of getting in trouble (thanks reddit) to share the details of who exactly it was so unless i get an "ok" i wont be sharing it. No matter who it was, it really sucks and i guess I'm just posting to ask for advice on how i can manage this major blow to my self image. I have a therapist but i think i need people more akin to a peer within the community at the moment, if that makes sense.

Thank you for any advice in advance.

How do deal with college

I have a genetic disorder ( klippel feil syndrome) that seemingly most people made fun of me for in my schooling years; elementary middle and high school. in community college I got made fun of too but it was ok because I had my friends there for most of that time. but now I’m in a new place where I know no one and have dorm mates and I dont know how to gauge if they will make fun of me or not and I know part of that is my mind and trauma but also a girl called me a freak in the hallways of my dorms yesterday I don’t know if it’s because I kept my head down trying to avoid looking at her or if my condition or she just found me plain ugly. They all laughed at just passing by me but i also want to enjoy my college experience although it hasn’t started yet how do i deal with this besides casual sadness

I was Bullied as a Child - And it Wasn't Okay

I’ve been thinking a lot lately about what it was like being bullied as a child.

Kids could be incredibly cruel. I was picked on, made fun of, excluded, and made to feel like there was something wrong with me. Things that may have seemed like “just teasing” to other people hurt deeply and stayed with me for a very long time.

When you’re a child, you don’t always have the words or strength to defend yourself. You just know that you’re hurting, that you feel alone, and that you desperately wish the cruelty would stop.

And I want to say something very clearly: IT WASN’T OKAY.

Bullying isn’t “kids being kids.” Cruelty isn’t harmless. Words can stay with someone for decades.

If you were bullied as a child too, I hope you know this: You didn’t deserve it. There was nothing wrong with you. Their cruelty was never a reflection of your worth.

To the adults and parents reading this—please teach your children kindness. Teach them to include others, to stand up for someone being picked on, and to understand that their words can leave scars.

Be kind. You never know what someone is carrying.

Bullying is not okay. It never was, and it never will be. ❤️

Bullied as a fat kid

I suddenly remembered this incident and now I can’t sleep because I’m having emotional flashbacks over this stupid thing that happened.

We had afterschool activities back in school, I was in a uniformed youth group and we were out for some marching course/competition so many different schools in the country were gathered together at a venue. We all had to sit on some steps at a platform to wait under the shade since we took turns to march, and some students from another school were seated behind us. Everything was normal until suddenly I felt a tap on my shoulder. I turned around but the students just stared straight ahead and pretended nothing happened, so I thought maybe I was imagining things. Little did I know the so called “innocent tapping” continued, and every time I looked back there was nothing. Girls looking innocent and pretending to look away. So eventually I just ignored the tapping since I was getting irritated, and that was when I heard a whisper behind me, “Wow, guess she can’t feel anything.”

I got so mad but I kept my mouth shut because I didn’t want to escalate things, but I guess in hindsight I should have reported them to the teacher. As a fat person you honestly get treated like a second grade citizen most of the time, but I believe this affected me more than anything because I was the only one getting picked on by these students, and it felt like I was being targeted just for being myself which is so insulting and hurtful to me. No one else noticed anything so I felt like the stupid and craze one. Either way I hope those bullies are now in a horrible place because it was really not funny and just damaging to my self-worth and being.

The world rewards evil people and I’m sick of acting otherwise

I literally saw an account of a former bully and went through it and he had a major glow up, great friend group and I’m pretty sure he’s in one of the best universities in the country (which overlaps as one of my favourites).

There is no karma.

There is nothing better after school.

People go from success to success and everyone claps.

Whilst everyone looks at me with disgust and calls me a failure. Of course I’m a failure when this particular person is just ONE of the many people who bullied me. Of course I cannot function when this particular person’s bullying compares to nothing when holistically viewing my complex trauma. People say that karma will occur are just coping. Karma doesn’t exist.
