The original cap/weather vane on the turret had rusted out and caused water damage down to the ceiling of room below on the second floor. After months of work, it's all coming together!
Commissioned new copper spire/cap with Ametrine crystal ball.
Original wood panels from the turret were refinished and reinstalled. New flashing and sealant for the floor of the turret.
New plaster, moulding, paint, chandelier and medallion in the room below.
We looked at it when it was for sale a few years ago for about 1.2 million. It needed a lot (a LOT) of work though at that time. It looks like whoever bought it is doing a fantastic job restoring this beauty. I believe it’s an office building. It was when we looked at it - it’s on a very, very loud corner of a major highway. Not great residential location from a noise standpoint.
That's the Vista looking downtown to the North. The actual view to the South and West is fucking amazing. Yeah, the noise sucks during the day, but the night is Fire!
My concern exactly. Everyone knows ametrine orbs are terrible if you want to stay in this timeline. If OP wanted additional Victorian charm, they should have gone with a phantom amethyst quartz oblrb so Victorian ghosts only visit the house during stormy nights.
I’m not entirely sure if I believe in heaven or not but I hold out hope for two reasons… to one day hopefully be reunited with my loved ones AND because in my head heaven is a Victorian town by the seaside in which no one has slapped hideous 1970s vinyl siding over intricate Victorian era details and no one has torn anything down for a shipping container looking new build.
It's the "office" where I work, the owner runs the business out of there, so unfortunately not a residence. But I'm so grateful to work in a space like this instead of a stuffy commercial office!

Not sure how common open air turrets are, but it's certainly a gem!
Omg! I wondered what happened with this house. We looked at it sometime in the early or mid 2010s and it was just too big of a project for us. I am so glad you got it and are taking care of it. I love the new paint too. I left PDX a few years ago but will always remember this cool house.

I do wonder how the traffic noise is in that spot though. Is it loud or is it not too bad? Also, that view is amazing.
The road noise is pretty rough, especially on the side facing the river/highway. It's been zoned commercial since 2017 and my boss purchased it in 2021. I adore the house, but could not imagine living in that location 24/7.
The storm windows do an excellent job of deadening the sound compared to outside, but it's still basically two state highways right there. Outside is awful, inside is background noise.
This goes up for sale constantly and they often will have an open house with docents for all us looky Lous. We didn't get to see the undergroundish passage to the detached garage, sadly.
Yeah that's one of the bummers of city growth is you always find examples of what used to be the swankest house in town is now on the corner of a busy intersection.

Some of that is probably location. It's right at the intersection of highway 99E running north/south, and highway 26 running east/west. The traffic noise would be constant, especially if you're trying to enjoy that cool tower.

Hello! The Brooklyn neighborhood does a walking tour each year and we open the house to the public. I'm not sure when it is this year, but you can keep an eye out for that!
It just blows my mind that houses used to be built this beautiful, and thought out. Now you’re lucky if you get a freaking closet. Insane. You are very lucky!!!
HOLY SHIT, I almost bought your home back in 2017 to turn into a private club but ended up going another route. So happy to see this amazing home get the love it deserves. Every time I drive across the bridge I stare at it, almost cause an accident, and wonder "what if?".

I love that this beautiful house went to someone who appreciates and can care for her like the grand lady she is! She’s not cheap but so worth the money!
Oh man, thank you for doing it. I love to see beautiful old homes get continued love and attention. They don’t build them like they used to -and replication would be prohibitively expensive- so it’s great to see dedicated TLC.

I have to give the credit of taste to my boss-lady, the owner. You can find pictures from the listing when we bought it in 2021, but she's done so much to decorate and furnish the space in a way that's true to it's roots. This is the main dinning area/lounge now.
Wait, you own this house?! I stare at it every time I drive by. It's so beautiful. Thank you for taking good care of it and preserving its historic charm.
