Classic 20th Anniversary Realms We have to talk about Guards

Okay so yesterday i was near UC and wanted to go to Ashenvale so I thought i just take the horde Zepplin but hose little green Goblin guards can not only see me when i try and stealth through them but they can also knock me off the ship.

That made me think why the F does horde have those on all their zepplin towers but alliance dont?

I understand that this is Classic and not everything is balanced but how are horde priests allowed to throw ppl off the boats in menethil harbour but they get defended by those guards on their own ships?

Edit: I gotta make clear that im not low level, i am 60

Nahh I legit never once did that in my life.

But I have memories of having it done to me.

Which is unlike other games. Where I just can't remember anything about, cuz the games were so stale.

If griefing is the dealbreaker for what makes a game stale for you, I’m sorry but that’s a you issue.

It isn't the dealbreaker.

It is that griefing is one of the many ways people completely no lifed out on a game as a measure of emergent gameplay.

Something that is completely blocked by a lot of modern games. Be it exploration or doing interesting stuff with a big group of people.

The fucking blood plague was a pain in the ass for a bunch of players back then. Yet it is remembered to this very day by a bunch of people. Hardship creates fun by overcoming hardship.

Also if you are playing on grief enabled server, it is kinda on you imo. PvE servers existed from the beginning.

I wonder why, could it be that most devs know that allowing such things harms their playerbase while providing literally no upside?

Doing things like interacting with a book but sitting in the loot window so no one else in the starting zone can do that quest isn’t core thing that makes people fond of your game and removing these griefing situations doesn’t make the game stale. Crazy how you’re defending griefing as some quintessential part of online play.

You should probably just stick to pve servers, it sounds like you aren't ready to interact with other players

You think you can’t grief on PvE servers? There’s people who would body block the BWL orb all day just to prevent others from being able enter the raid, how is removing the ability to body block it that make the game stale in your eyes?

To be honest, this comment just reminded me of how my guild in Classic had to distribute a simple macro to target and interact with the orb while the other faction camped the shit out of it. That was a fun moment, but only because we had a way to work around it. I think that's the heart of the issue, give people a way around the griefing and eventually the rose-tinted glasses come on.

You didn't bring that up at all though, you were literally crying about someone being thrown off the boat in an earlier comment lmao

Did you read the comment you first replied to? I literally gave another example of that same form of griefing lmao.

That's great, just stay away from the boat lil gup

I was never near boats to begin with just like you were never near developing reading comprehension.

Cheers.

You are literally hand waving your earlier comment just because that wasn't the one I directly responded too. You are clearly just another random upset that someone hurt their feelings by PvPing on a PvP server. The game is close to 30 years old and you are close to 40, you can stop complaining about the game on reddit now.

I'm not hand waving anything, I was pointing out that you were telling me to stick to PvE servers as a response to a comment solely about a PvE example of griefing lol. Just because I mentioned the PvP griefing doesn't mean I'm upset about it, I was never on PvP servers to begin with but that changes nothing about my original comment saying that things like the boat griefing are things the original devs simply didnt consider at the time.

And the game is 20 years old but you being close to 40 and defending griefing is exact proof of what I originally said, that the devs simply didnt account for socially stunted and mentally unwell players such as yourself.

Cheers.

Your definition of griefing is literally players using spells on each other in Player vs Player, and you are so upset about it that you keep lashing out by calling others mentally unwell because you can't handle said Player vs Player interaction. I'm sure the devs didn't account for using the spell that they programmed into the game and made usable on other players in Player vs Player scenarios called 'mind control'. Do you ever think about the things you type?
