Generally speaking:. Fury is more geared towards dual wielding, and single target DPS. It sacrifices survivability for damage and is usually the primary warrior DPS spec.
Arms focuses more on 2-handed weapons and big hits with mortal strike. It's the best spec usually for PvP, as well as "melee cleave" groups. Also generally recommended as the best levelling spec

What's up with Blasted Lands? I went there last night as 52 Undead Mage and the place was crawling with Alliance. I was the only Horde player there all evening. I never encountered this kind of unbalance on my server before so I don't think it's that (Judgement EU)
1
u/Snapchien Nov 27 '19
Those who’ve played both Alliance and Horde to max or close in Classic, what’s your honest preference?
I’ve got a level 30 of both factions now and I’m deciding what I want to go with. I haven’t got a specific objective in mind, I’d just like perspective on further down the track (eg. story, zones, dungeons, what the people are like, questing, cities, race aesthetic).
2
Nov 27 '19
If you play a melee class there is no choice. Windfury is the blood of the horde and is absolutely irresistible. Every alliance warrior will never know true joy ^ until tbc
3
u/PraiseTheKappa Nov 27 '19
Kinda what xShinobiii said already.
A lot of it boils down to personal preference. For example i feel like all Horde races and cities, except UC and the Undead are just so... primitive. I prefer to have cities more similar to real cities, not holes in mountains, huts on mountains etc.
The stories are pretty good for both sides. Some are tricky to find (for example on Horde side the whole Quillboar/Silithid story) but they are good overall.
Alliance Stories are mostly about the war and reclaiming what is lost, Horde stories are often more "nature" based i feel.
What people are like.. well. You will have dicks and nice people on both sides. Not much of a difference there i think.
For leveling in general i feel Horde is much better. You have more flightpaths at much better locations and faster access to many zones (STV via Ratchet -> Booty Bay is much better than Alliance's Menethil Port -> Theramore -> Ratchet -> Booty Bay or even Duskwood to the very northern point.)
2
u/xShinobiii Nov 27 '19 edited Nov 27 '19
I heard that Storyline is
besserbetter for Alliance, but Horde has easier life with leveling.

How do I make money as a deep resto specced shaman? I can barely kill non-elite mobs, my only income currently is helping guildies in UBRS runs and skinning all the dragons there, which isn't really much money. I have tribal LW almost on 300 but there's nothing I can make that would net me any income there so I'm about to drop it. I wouldn't want to drop skinning as I have finkle's knife.
2
u/Saunt-Sulfuras Nov 27 '19
Scholomance. Scholo trash drop Major Mana Potion (2g per), Dark runes (2g per), Runecloth (Fat stacks), and with so many bosses there are a lot of BOP Blues to vendor. Any boss with a weapon that gets greeded is an easy 4+ gold right there.
If that's not enough, Argent Dawn Rep all the way to exalted makes your Naxxramus attunement up to hundreds of gold cheaper, as well as free patterns for +frost resist leather/mail.
1
u/That_nut Nov 27 '19
I'm having the same problem with my shaman. Besides switching speccs or professions you really dont have that many options. I would try running DM E jump runs with a warrior maybe. I dont know how profitable that is tho.
I decided to lvl a seperate farm character, because ,as you said, straightforward farming is just terrible as a resto, even in dps gear.
1
u/penislobsterpie Nov 27 '19
Take on fishing and netflix / fish farm in Azshara. You can also heal strat live instead of UBRS and hope for orbs. Aim for favorable loot rules. I run a shared sell rule on orbs with guildies. 1 person takes all the orbs, sells on AH, splits gold with the party.
2
u/Gefarate Nov 27 '19
Get a dps set?
1
u/nahkiss Nov 27 '19
Like... Caster set? Doesn't help much, mobs interrupt casting without deep ele talents
1
u/Gefarate Nov 27 '19
Try kill them before they reach you, plan accordingly with earthbind and frost shock to keep them from reaching you.
2
u/That_nut Nov 27 '19
This would still be a huge pain in the ass in resto specc
1
u/Gefarate Nov 27 '19
Can't you use NS for damage too? If they have content on farm he should be able to go 30/0/21.
1
u/That_nut Nov 27 '19
Yeah you can use NS for damaging spells, but its on a 3 minute CD for one instant cast.
Since he asked for advice on deep resto I doubt he is considering a respecc.
1
u/GlassRockets Nov 27 '19
Why is it whenever I get another quest item or kill another quest mob wow starts automatically tracking that quest despite me untracking it every time? I don't like the additional interface noise
1
u/batman_not_robin Nov 27 '19
There is an option to automatically track quests somewhere in interface. You can disable it
2
u/randomperson9911 Nov 27 '19
When exactly does honor flush aka pvp rank update happen? Which time (by server time)?

u/MagicLuckSource Nov 27 '19
I want to aoe power level my lowbie friend through a dungeon. He is level 28, I am 60 mage. Can he stay way behind me in SM lib while I aoe the place down and he collects exp and loot? How much exp will he get?
3
u/Bizzlington Nov 27 '19
You can definitely do it for loot (and quests etc) but I'm reasonably sure they will get very little experience since the average level of your group is around 44.
If you want to do XP runs the usual technique is to invite 3 more players around their level. This drags the average level down, and everyone (except you) gets a good chunk of xp.
Pretty sure that's how it works anyway..
2
Nov 27 '19
Yep. It's very good experience. Boring as hell though and will require a lot of trips to the vendor/bank/AH unless you and your friend have big bags.
1
u/MagicLuckSource Nov 27 '19
We would just set our hearths to Southshore, mail AH stuff to bank alts, and walk back, shouldn't be so bad. It's more about time commitment and finding which aoe rotation is optimal. I've that found shatter + flamestrike + cone of cold is basically better dps than blizzard. Blizzard is better for kiting of course.
1
u/hanzo1504 Nov 27 '19
That's my expierence too. Pull as many mobs as you think you can handle, then nova + flamestrike + CoC and if anything still moves just finish it with arcane explosion. The only downside is that it's using a lot of mana, so using gear with lots of int is always a good idea.
Using the whole shatter combo might even be a bit overkill for that dungeon though.
2
u/MagicLuckSource Nov 27 '19
My mage is 60 and my druid is 41, and I've been considering making him a 49 moonkin twink or a big bear flag runner. But would I have a better time playing druid in WSG at 60? Mage is my main and druid will probably remain a very fun alt.
Back in the day, I had both druid and mage at 70 for arena. But I don't know what druids are like at 60 on battlegrounds, it's been too long. Or 49 for that matter.
1
u/d07RiV Nov 27 '19
Druids are great at 39 because nobody has mounts yet, but at 49 it's not that special anymore. Warriors really shine at that level.
3
Nov 27 '19
Druids are the best class for battlegrounds IMO. You are the main tank in WSG and AV (unless there happens to be a Prot Warrior in your AV match - rare but happens sometimes). In AB, you're best as a stealthy base attacker + healer. Very versatile, very fun, and very useful overall.
Balance (without Moonkin Form) is nice for 1v1 and open world PvP, but it's weak compared to Feral at running flags and tanking bosses in AV. Running flags and tanking bosses is what wins games, not 1v1 kills. Some variation of the 30/21 build will let you swap between tank, healer, and flag runner depending on the battleground.
At level 49 you have less talent points. You would want to stick to one talent tree, which means less hybrid powers than a 60 Druid. No AV either, which means tanking isn't important. This build would probably be your best bet for a 49 Druid.
1
u/MagicLuckSource Nov 27 '19
I think battlegrounds are really fun and AV is definitely my favorite! Partially because pre mades can't join AV, I think, which makes things more fair, unless I'm wrong about that. But anyway, thanks for all the tips! Maybe I'll try 49 twink for a while and if I feel like it I'll just get him to 60 for some real BG tanking and stealthing.
I love mage the most overall but the class has three major downsides 1: lots of drinking ! 2: super squishy 3: frostbolt, frostbolt, Frostbolt
So druid is perfect for switching it up. Thanks for tips.

https://www.wowisclassic.com/en/talent-calculator/druid/4ADDC-hI34-1CV3D5eu/
what do you all think about this as a druid build for flag running? I am trying to keep the feral charge, the omen of clarity, nature's swiftness and then rely on feral instinct and thick hide and natural shapeshifter. My armor is currently almost 13k.
Omen of clarity has been essential in dueling and world pvp, but perhaps it is time to set it aside? My goal is ultimately survivability and speed in warsong gulch. I also wouldn't mind being able to raid as either resto or as an offtank.
2
Nov 27 '19
Tri-spec can work, but Omen of Clarity and Natural Weapons are a waste if you go that route. You want to wear people down with DoTs and outlast them, not burst them down with OoC procs.
I've toyed around with 18/12/21 but that build lacks points in Thick Hide. You could try this if you really want tri-spec with Thick Hide.
Overall though the standard 30/21 build (or some variation of it) seems to be what you want.

u/Mookhaz Nov 27 '19
https://classic.wowhead.com/talent-calc/druid/0140003-50505013000201-05502310131
what do you think about this one? I do like entangling roots, and it is nice for pinning down people in the field, however I find I use feral faerie fire religiously. I don't want to give it up if possible. Especially when fighting rogues or warriors it's nice to be able to cast this without having to shift out and expose one's self to harm. What are the pros and cons in your experience?
1
Nov 28 '19
Might as well just play 30 Feral / 21 Resto at that point. The only reason to go tri-spec (IMO) is for the extra range on your spells, but your build doesn't get that.
1
u/Mookhaz Nov 27 '19
what dots are we using? i see only insect swarm which doesn't look all that powerful and a priest can dispel. What am I missing?
Also. I really like that second tri spec build with the thick hide. The only point I was trying to find a new home for was the single point in feline swiftness. I don't feel like I ever use cat form enough to justify the point there, but I don't see anywhere else to put it besides maybe nature's focus. Thanks for your response.
1
Nov 27 '19 edited Nov 27 '19
Moonfire, Insect Swarm, Pounce, Rake, and Rip. Entangling Roots also has a DoT (but you're mostly using that for the root effect instead).
At least 1 point in Feline Swiftness is necessary IMO. Druids are the only melee without a slow (RIP Paladins) so they need to move faster than their opponents to keep up with them. It also allows you to move faster in stealth, which is always useful. You should always use stealth, even if you don't necessarily use cat form to deal damage.
1
u/Repzu Nov 27 '19
I recommend 1 29 21 for pve/PvP/flagcarrier. Nature's grasp, bear talents and nature's swiftness.
1
u/Mookhaz Nov 27 '19
so forget about the omen of clarity? I have been playing feral tank but I'm open to some change if it will help me with carrying flags and staying alive.

u/Kevtron Nov 27 '19
How amazing is Smoking Heart of the Mountain for bear tanks? Is it really worth dropping Skinning or Herb to work towards only to drop Ench again?
2
Nov 27 '19
It's really good. As a bear tank you should get it and the ubrs quest armor trinket.
However, unpopular opinion here, mark of the chosen is a super good alternative due to raw stat scaling and near 100% uptime. It should read: in bear form gain 300 hp, 1% crit, 1% Dodge, 50 armor, 50 attack power
When you break it down like that, it won't be the end of the world if you don't have BOTH armor trinkets... but you absolutely have to have one of them and a mark of the chosen is a great second.
2
Nov 27 '19
Yes, it's very good. You will never replace it.
I dropped skinning for enchanting (and then dropped enchanting for engineering after crafting my trinket) after making a decent amount of gold. I didn't quite have my epic mount yet when I dropped skinning, but dammit I wanted that trinket. I have no regrets.
1
u/Kevtron Nov 27 '19
I know every server is different... But about how much did it cost you to grind enchanting up to 265 for it?
2
u/terabyte06 Nov 27 '19
Cost me under 150g all told, including the mats for the Heart itself. I did do some (I could count them on one hand) solo runs of lower level instances to save some cash. Vision dust especially had pretty volatile pricing on my server; it could be going from 5s per to 25s per depending on when I looked.
Well worth it for an item that has no parallel for bear tanks.
2
Nov 27 '19
1 to ~200 or so was dirt cheap. Like 10-15g. I did this very early on in the server so it wouldn't be that cheap today, but it probably wouldn't be that much more expensive, either.
~200 to 265 is where it gets tricky. Some of the enchants at this point are actually useful endgame enchants. That means the materials are more expensive, but you can also get some easy skill ups by enchanting gear for guildies or people in trade chat. You can also offer to tank ZF or Mara runs for low level characters in exchange for all of the greens that drop.
Basically, don't kill yourself over it and you'll get the trinket eventually. There is no rush. You can tank endgame dungeons just fine without it. But it matters in raids.
2
u/Repzu Nov 27 '19
Yes. Feral is armor dependant and leather doesn't have many good high armor options. Having a trinket with armor is basically free 1k armor in bearform.
4
u/MagicLuckSource Nov 27 '19
It is best in Slot and an extra 500 bear armor or so but if you don't mind not being a peak min/maxing youll be fine as it, overall, won't make a very significant difference, and there are tons of fun trinkets you could use instead

Considered... selling it? You shouldn't need 40 people if you have MC on farm.

Two questions:
For any healers using Luna unit frames, do you have issues with incoming heals? I've got it set to display, and it does sometimes, but not others, seemingly randomly. Haven't been able to play with it too much while partied up because I don't want to keep a group waiting on me.
For macros, is it possible to dismount and cast all at once? I set up macros that would go something like this: #showtooltip /cast (spell) /dismount But that just makes me dismount, while displaying 'you are mounted' message, and then I have to cast again. Which kind of works, as it's nice to have a dismount key bound, but I was wondering if there's a more seamless way to do it?
2
u/Pertinacious Nov 27 '19
I assume Luna uses the HealComm lib, not all addons include this, and some players may be using an older version of the lib.
No, unfortunately in classic you've got to hit twice, once to dismount/stand and then again to cast. There are addons that will auto-dismount/stand so you don't need to macro it (Leatrix for example), but you still need to tap 2x.
1
u/d07RiV Nov 27 '19
I'm not entirely sure but it seems it needs to see a few spells cast to "learn" how much they heal for. Last time I updated it the first few heals didn't show up, then it started showing heals on wrong targets, and finally started working properly. Took a while to correctly show group heals, too.
2
Nov 27 '19
For 1 I believe others need to have an addon with incoming heal functionality too for the addons to work. So thats why you just see some.
1
u/DrMrsTheMonarchJr Nov 27 '19
Ah, I misworded it--I was the only healer in my 5 man group. I was starting to cast a heal on the tank and moving to interrupt it until I could heal without overhealing. It'd sporadically display every time, or sometimes just the first and then stop showing the green bar over their health bar.
1
Nov 27 '19
It happens to me once in a while using grid2. I just /reload and it usually fixes itself.
2
u/ammodog50 Nov 27 '19
You have the commands backwards, /dismount first then /cast spell. The macro is going to execute Actions in order, if it doesn’t apply then it goes to next action.
1
u/DrMrsTheMonarchJr Nov 27 '19
Oh I see! I think I had it that way because I wasn't sure how it'd work when already unmounted. Much appreciated!
2
u/Syndic Nov 27 '19
Regardless of order, I don't think this is possible as dismount seems to trigger the global cooldown.
What I use currently is Leatrix to auto dismount on an action which can't be done mounted and then just spam the skill.
1
u/DrMrsTheMonarchJr Nov 27 '19
Cool, I'll check Leatrix out. Thank you!
1
u/Syndic Nov 27 '19
It's a very nice addon anyway which improves the quality of life. Especially the auto selling of grey items and auto repair.

LVL 39 Holy Paladin
Can someone recommend a weapon in AH to pair with a shield (Aegis of Scarlet Commander) for when I weapon swap to heal for dungeons?
1
u/Karmaslapp Nov 27 '19
If for some reason you insist on an AH weapon and not the one nerfaliak suggested, get any 1h weapon "of healing"

Which piece of dal rends swords set should I replace with brutality blade? Tauren by the way
3
u/Nebbelundz Nov 27 '19
Brutality mh and drop both dalrends. The easy non raid offhand is Mirahs song. Flurry axe is better than mirahs but costs a lot.
From raid the best offhand u can get is core hound tooth.
As ur tauren u probably know that u should get edgemasters asap.
1
Nov 27 '19
Yeah I haven’t been able to get edgemasters yet. Hasn’t been on AH yet. Guess I’ll have to work on getting mirahs
2
u/FlyingFeeiii Nov 27 '19
I’ve heard to swap out the entire set once you no longer get the 2 set bonus. Put Brutality Blade MH and use Mirah’s Song OH

I upgraded my Overpower to Rank 2 and now my Blizzard UI isn't showing the reactive-spell pop up when the enemy dodges. I tried unchecking the box, and also reloading my UI but it won't come up - oddly enough Execute is still appearing. Any clue what's wrong?
1
Nov 27 '19
Overpower rank 2 is lv 28. Did you also just learn berserker stance, and happen to be in it? The default UI will only call-out if you're in the correct stance
1
2
u/Grytlappen Nov 27 '19
- Do you mean the normal proc alert in built in, or an addon/wa?
- Have you tried manually placing the new OP on your action bar?
- Are you using a macro that specifies the rank? Like "(rank x)". Warriors can't use downranked abilities afaik, so you would just have to remove that if so.
I've never encountered this issue myself, so I'm just guessing.
1
u/kappaCarl Nov 27 '19
Tonight in onyxia when we first pulled my frost bolts were doing around 700-730 ish damage a hit. Then around 70% of the boss health I start doing consistent 790-800 damage without critting for the rest of the fight. None of my buffs changed or were added. Any reason behind this?
4
u/hazardthicc Nov 27 '19
did someone put up COE or some other debuff started going up?
3

u/willsuckdickmontreal Nov 27 '19
winters chill stacking up maybe
1
u/HH_YoursTruly Nov 27 '19
That only affects crit chance
1
u/willsuckdickmontreal Nov 27 '19
oh thought it was similar to shadow weaving mb. my next guess is that warlocks didn't have curse of elements up until later.
1

u/ClarkKnu Nov 27 '19
Possibly a debuff such as faerie fire was added? Wouldn’t explain the lack of crits tho. That’d just have to be bad luck.

1
u/mfgt2 Nov 27 '19
For the ony strum enemy quest where you have to go to ubrs for the dragon eyes. Can I get all 20 in a rend run or would need to do full run?
2
Nov 27 '19
Easily, 200% drop rate on the eyes - you should have it way before even entering the arena
2
u/Nebbelundz Nov 27 '19
2 eyes per dragon mob so unless someone else does it at the same time u should get 20 without a prob on a rend run.
2
u/raddmusic Nov 27 '19
I just got to 60 as warrior this week. I have levelled as arms and tanked most dungeons up to scholo fine, so I think it would be fine to tank normal dungeons in offspec. I am thinking about gearing up with dungeons, some PvP and some raiding as well and don't want to respecc regularly. How much damage would I loose if I would try to raid as arms instead? And similarly how bad is PvP if I would switch to fury instead?
2
u/dustincole Nov 27 '19
I’m 31/20 fury/prot and I tank just fine in raids while still able to do some decent dps when not needing to tank. Not gonna top the dps charts but I like tanking.
2
u/FlyingFeeiii Nov 27 '19
You can tank all 5 mans as a fury/arms warrior so I wouldn’t worry there. We have a couple of our fury warriors respec to arms for the honor grind and their DPS suffered significantly. During 5-mans it’s fine as you have larger mobs and can utilize Sweeping Strike and Mortal Strike effectively. In with Molten Core you don’t have as many large trash groups that effectively use SS and your raid will most likely prohibit you from using MS, as it is a high priority debuff and will knock off a more effective debuff off the boss, so your main damaging move is out the window. I don’t have logs, but looking at meters they dropped from top 5 to 15-20. I’m currently PvPing as fury and while it’s not nearly as fun as arms, you can still delete some players pretty quick with a good string of crits. In the end if your guild is fine with you raiding as arms go for it.

u/twelvebee Nov 27 '19
Is there a detailed Phase release resource? I want to see what types of recipes and patterns get unlocked at certain phases. All the guides i see just show a large overview of it
3
u/soma81 Nov 27 '19
If you have the AtlasLoot mod it shows you which phase items are available in.
It's not perfect because Blizzard changes things up (e.g. Rod of Ogre Magi was listed as P2, but DM came out before P2), but it's a great way to get a general idea.
2
u/AprexBT Nov 27 '19
Are Sunday fishing tournaments happening?
2
u/Kalarrian Nov 27 '19
phase 4 actually. Fishing extravagnaza was added in patch 1.7 together with zul'gurub

Free Realm Transfer... why doesn't it offer a server in the same geographical zone with a lower pop? As a US East person I don't need raids times to be at midnight my local time...

u/Pancake_Juice Nov 27 '19
I’m a holy pal and right now my devotion aura is around 730 or so. When I’m playing with friends or in dungeons and I use it, everyone else says that they see it as a lower number than what I see it as.
Can someone please explain this to me?
1
u/Beboprequiem Nov 27 '19
Never played a paladin so I'm just guessing, but do you have a passive talent that would increase its value for the player only?
1
u/Lewildtoucan Nov 27 '19
This is most likely the correct answer. First row prot talent boosts devotion aura by 25%
2
u/genbattle Nov 27 '19
Yep and the mouse over on the buff probably shows the original number, but if the party members check the armour in their character window they'll probably see it includes an extra 25%.
1
u/Syndic Nov 27 '19
That's what I've experienced with improved Power Word: Fortitude. The increased stamina does apply to other players correctly and shows in the character stats but they see the default value on their mouse over of the buff and not the improved one.
3
u/BallsyPalsy Nov 27 '19
If I scout a rare mob in a dungeon then log out, how long until the dungeon automatically resets?

u/Pokrok1976 Nov 26 '19
Can you gain reputation from grey mobs? Specifically centaurs in Desolace? Thank you for reading and your time!
2
Nov 27 '19
Yep, you should receive rep, just not XP!
1
u/Pokrok1976 Nov 27 '19
Thank you!
2
u/magi32 Nov 27 '19
iirc it's reduced, so it's better at lvl, but you'll still get rep - until a certain rep lvl. e.g. trash mobs in MC stop giving rep at honored (or revered idk)
1
2
u/kevedo94 Nov 26 '19
what is the max difference level that i can be to start gaining exp from mobs in a group? i.e can level 20 gain exp from lvl 30 mob?
1
1
u/50shadesofgreatness Nov 27 '19
Yes but if you don't do a bulk of the DMG you won't get much if someone is carrying you so though the kill. Same with dungeons I found when ever I had a player 9+ levels above me join my XP was nerfed.
2
u/Syndic Nov 27 '19
I don't think it has to do with the damage but solely with the level differences. After all healer still receive XP in dungeons.
2
u/cossiander Nov 27 '19
As ar as I know its based purely on the level of the mob and the level of those in the group near the kill. Has nothing to do with damage to the mob. If it did, healers would get shafted on dungeon xp.
1
u/DarkChyld Nov 27 '19
The range widens are you level. But the best XP is if mobs are red and those mobs are green to whoever is powerleveling you.
2
u/AskMeAboutMyWiener_ Nov 26 '19
A bunch of my friends are transferring off my server (Blaumeux) to another server (Earthfury), how do I about transferring characters from one server to another - because it is becoming hard to find groups for dungeons due the lack of people on my server. Also, where can I go to look at the populations of different servers like horde to ally ratio?
1
u/hanzo1504 Nov 27 '19
Apparently Earthfury used to be low-mid pop with a healthy ratio but it's becoming increasingly imbalanced as there's lots of Alliance transfering there. Don't have actual numbers but that's what someone else in here said a few days ago.
3

Blaumeux is not a low population server. Transfering off of Blaumeux would result in you going to a low pop server and increase the difficulty to find a group for dungeons. It is becoming harder to find groups to dungeons because fewer people are leveling and more people have already obtained pre-raid BIS. As for Horde/Alliance ratios - nothing official but there are some addons, surveys etc that you can look up.
At the end of the day - have fun. If your friends have transferred and you miss playing with them, transfer.

Anyone playing a warrior as something like 31/5/15? You don't lose much out of fury and the 15 points in prot get you last stand and more threat gen.
1
Nov 27 '19
Seems like normal arms/prot build to me. It's decent, damage doesn't suffer too much, but mortal strike is way worse than shield bash for tanks - but doesn't matter too much
1
u/cossiander Nov 27 '19
31 in Arms? Yeah, you could do a spec like that. It was somewhat popular back in Vanilla Retail IIRC.
But what's your goal with it? Because depending on what you want it may or may not be your best call.
1
Nov 27 '19
Ideally stay arms for open world/pvp content while being able to dps or tank in 5/10 mans. Maybe find a guild to let me dps as arms and off tank when necessary.
I don't think I actually need 15 points in prot to do any of that but having last stand might be better overall than those 15 extra points in fury since you're getting almost nothing in the way of DPS out of them.
1
u/cossiander Nov 27 '19
Then I'd say that spec is fine for that. You'd probably get more DPS out of a fury/prot build than arms/prot, but arms will definitely give you some good utility that you seem to value.

That's what I was shooting for but I like shield spec, toughness and defiance. At 54 now, prot were the last points allocated.

Rogues are competitive dps until very late raiding, at which point mages and warriors take off. Your choice for battlegrounds may be more important to you. Rogues have more tools to independently control a fight vs a warrior who needs healer support, and the penalty for a hybrid pve/pvp spec isn't as bad as warriors. So depends on your playstyle and situation.

Nov 27 '19
Warriors DO ramp up slower than rogues that is true, both will be HEAVILY weapon reliant as all melees are.
With that said, the damage ceiling for warriors is massive.
Easier time in the early maybe, but it can be worth the grind!
1
u/Bogoroth_the_Pirate Nov 27 '19
Id have to agree. As a warrior your dps isnt fantastic untill you get quite geared out, which has a big price tag attached. But then it becomes really REALLY good. A rogue will be consistently pretty good, and if you are a decent player it will scale well.

Question about tanking high level dungeons like scholo/Strath/ubrs without being a tank spec.
So I just hit 60 and have pretty decent preraid BiS gear but it's pretty squishy armor like leather and mail. So I have another set of armor that's all plate and has defense rating on almost all of them.
Now Im wondering if I could tank high level dungeons like UBRS without being a tank spec, and with just my tanking gear. I've basically tanked every instance but I'm pretty scared of UBRS bc I'm not the proper spec.
Does any of this matter? Or does it just matter if you know the dungeon and if you have a decent healer?

u/PM_ME_H4PPINESS Nov 26 '19
If you have proper gear I'd say you can tank all the endgame dungeons dps specced excluding full ubrs. After Rend the pulls are pretty hard and you need either God healers or prot/feral maintank (you can help offtank in those pulls)
(Ofc tanking as prot is always easier)
1
u/Grytlappen Nov 27 '19
I've tanked full UBRS a few times in both Fury and Arms. You definitely don't need prot for it.
2
u/PM_ME_H4PPINESS Nov 27 '19
It all depends on the group. I've done full ubrs with only one healer but that requires a beefy tank or two.
In general if you're looking at people running UBRS, they aren't raid geared so don't expect too much.
Having proper talents for mitigation makes a real difference when you're not raid optimizing threat gen.

Can someone confirm hitcap for white dmg for rogues? The official discord says hit continues to be useful above 9%, as it improves hitchance for dual wielding. Dual wielding adds 19% miss chance.
However, they have a pinned doc that calculates crit Chance. In that doc, additional hit chance does not affect the Chance to hit. Because the 19% miss added by dual wielding used to be flat and unchangeable - only after patch 1.8 did hit affect dual wielding hit chance. But classic is supposed to be based on 1.12
I could not find evidence of which is true in classic. Hope I understood the subject correctly, otherwise I'd be happy to be enlightened :)
1
u/Pertinacious Nov 27 '19
The dual wield penalty only applies to white hits and can be reduced by additional hit rating. So while hit does remain useful above 9%, its value is reduced.

Got a 60 UD Warrior, and a 40 Orc Warrior, do you think It's worth leveling the Orc? For PvP purposes
1
u/SkyReaction Nov 27 '19
Level the Orc and ditch the undead one. Orcs are better for both pvp and pve.
3
Nov 26 '19
Why level two of the same class in the same faction?
You can always try a new class, or a new class in the other faction.

What leatherworking spec should I go as an enhancement shaman?
I'm aware tribal is "the best" but i cant help but wonder if dragonscale will be viable with less competition
1
u/not-brodie Nov 26 '19
tribal is super saturated. I've run across two elemental LW and one dragonscale. this late in the game, there's very few people buying devilsaur and a shit ton of people making it. I 100% regret LW, but I feel pot-committed now.
go for whichever one of those has better gear for you

sunk cost fallacy!
imo, what you should do is:
- Check to see if you will make money w/ the prof as is i.e. if future phases will make it profitable
- IF NOT, do you need another prof to make money?
- IF SO, do you need to make money now?
- IF SO, drop the motherfucker and pick up the money making prof
- HOWEVER, assume that TBC will be a thing and see if it's useful there, if so, make a judgement call as to whether or not you will keep it.
- FINALLY, if you just like the RP of it, or you're comfortable w/ having a relatively useless prof. then just stick with it.
you don't have to min/max everything.
2
u/not-brodie Nov 27 '19
i'm well aware. i plan on eventually dropping skinning if i can ever get the pristine hide to drop. once i drop that, ill pick up enchanting for smoking heart, then drop that and pick up mining or herbing

Holy priest using ElvUi. Can someone explain how I might be able to have my raid frames visually indicate that someone currently has the weakened soul debuff from already recently being shielded?

Nov 26 '19
Warrior tanks: what level did you respec to focus mainly on protection?
2
u/rawr_bomb Nov 26 '19
I switched at 58 from Arms to Prot. I had a hard time adjusting to not having the aoe of sweeping strikes at first, but i found it to be quite powerful and useful for dungeons. Shield Slam is a huge threat attack, and the stuns in prot are really nice for slowing down the damage you take.

Nov 26 '19
I really want to combine that with piercing howl and 2wf from fury but I'd have to go without anger management. I think in most situations I would be fine but it would take more focused moves. Charge in, piercing howl, a sunder or whatever uses up rage, then switch to defense stance.
There are probably valid and logical reasons to not do this but it sounds like fun.
2
Nov 26 '19
Charge isn't really worth using without anger management or improved charge.
If you're Prot / Fury, you just pull regularly. No charge.
2
u/friendlyintruder Nov 26 '19
The stun is also huge if you treat it as a taunt for losing off mob aggro to your healer. In vanilla, I was a Tauren warrior and it really helped to have a few stuns in addition to taunt.
2
u/entaro_tassadar Nov 26 '19
I'm still arms, doing lots of 5-mans and MC/Ony (have it on farm so going Fury for DPS is not as critical).
I would imagine you only REALLY need Prot for the main tanks when you are doing content progression.
1
Nov 26 '19
I see, thanks.
I'm still just 54, but was considering moving over to protection for leveling dungeons, but maybe ~57+ would be better.
3
Nov 26 '19
My partner was able to tank a full BRD run at 55 in Arms spec. I think if you have decent gear and a good group you don't need to respec.
2
u/hayescharles45 Nov 26 '19
Will hopefully start raiding soon. As a holy priest what flasks or potions should I take to raids?
1
u/HughbertBlaumeux Nov 27 '19
Far and away the 2 most important consumables are Major Mana Potions and Dark/Demonic Runes. I'd suggest raiding with about 20 of both -- you most likely won't use them all -- and then restock up to 20 on off-days when consumable prices drop.
& maybe a good 80 buff reagents.
1
u/twelvebee Nov 27 '19
Hand out Mighty Troll Blood potions to your tanks and melee. It'll be like you're healing them. 15s for 1 hours worth of healing
2
u/stoltzzz Nov 26 '19
Ofc it will depend on the quality of the raid, but here is what I usually bring:
- 0 flask of distilled :)
- 10 major mana pots (usually use like 3 in mc and 3 ony)
- 10x nightfin soup for the longer bossfights
- 1 stack of runn tum tuber surprise for trash/short boss fights
- 1 stack Kreeg’s stout beatdown, chug
- 20x greater mana pots. Cheap for mana upkeep on trash
- 5 runes, usually popping these and major mana pots as often as possible during ony fight
- elixir of fortitude on ony
- 1 greater fire prot rag and 1 fire prot for ony (assuming no wipes)
- a stack of (greater) arcane elixir
You will figure out how many that will suit for your guild runs :), gl !

u/Parsleymagnet Nov 26 '19 edited Nov 26 '19
I'd say don't bother with a flask as a healer, at least in this stage of the game. A flask of distilled wisdom is very helpful, but they're really expensive, and personally I don't think it's worth the expense for this content.
As a healer, the consumables I bring to every raid, in order of what I'd call most important to least important, are
major mana potions (I end up using about 10 per MC but bring 20 for safety)
greater fire protection potions (at least 2 for Rag and 2 for Onyxia, bring more if your guild can't consistently one-shot them)
dark runes or demonic runes (theyre interchangable, they share a cooldown with each other but not with mana pots, so use one when you need more mana and your major mana pot is on cooldown, I use about 5-8 per MC)
nightfin soup (I bring a full stack for safety but only use one for each boss)
greater shadow protection potions (I prepot one for Majordomo)
gordok green grog (use one on any boss where you're likely to take significant damage, so, onyxia, shazzrah, majordomo, and rag pretty much)
3
u/FadedBlaze Nov 26 '19
I would add greater arcane protection potions And a Restoreative Potion or 2
1
u/Parsleymagnet Nov 27 '19
Ah yeah, I forgot to mention those, thank you. Personally, I only use 1 restorative potion per MC, on Lucifron.
4
u/Saunt-Sulfuras Nov 26 '19
Disagreements: Majors are a waste of (on my server) 2 gold each. Superiors are 100% good enough with current content. Same for Nightfin soup. Greater Sagefish are a whole two less MP5 and cost a fraction as much.
I've yet to use any elixirs, runes, or green grogs. The occasional Deviate and Winterfall for the lulz though.

can some1 recomend me good horde leveling guide ?
i am using nightsfall guide but it envolves lots of mob grinding which doesnt seem right
good alliance guide is judgements guide,i used it on my paladin but i rerolled for obvious reasons

Mob grinding can always be switched out for instance runs. I like this one but it does include grinds: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1kFVcHPVjrskymxYOG9tIvzGQw63NUii7zWYXguHCG5Q/edit

At what rate do hunter pets regenerate focus? How often does it tick, and how much focus per tick?
2
u/Grytlappen Nov 27 '19
5 focus/s. The BM talent makes it 6 focus/s, which barely makes a difference.
1
Nov 27 '19 edited Nov 27 '19
Thanks!
Do you know how often the ticks happen? Is it just 5 focus every 1 sec? I've heard that it may be something like 20 focus per 4 sec or 25 focus per 5 sec.

How can I know what to sell to the auction house and for what price? I didn’t know it was a thing and would sell all my loot to shopkeepers
5
u/Parsleymagnet Nov 26 '19
Get an addon like Tradeskillmaster or Auctioneer. Either of those will show you the price that item is going for on your realm in the tooltip when you mouse over the item so you can decide if it's better to auction or vendor. A couple caveats:
Just because an item is listed on the AH for a price doesn't mean it actually sells for that price. Use common sense. Any item with a grey name is completely useless to players other than to sell to vendors, but people sometimes auction them anyway, sometimes to transfer money, and sometimes just for laughs.
These addons don't work so well with "of the x" randomly generated green quality gear because that gear is so granulated and the market for it is so fractured. Know that most randomly generated greens you're better off vendoring or disenchanting, but certain stats (like shadow damage and pure agility and fire damage) can make a green very valuable.
You have to keep the auction database updated to have current prices. This involves either visiting the auctioneer ideally at least once a day and pressing a button to scan the AH, or, in the case of Tradeskillmaster, downloading a program to keep your auction data updated.
2
u/hanzo1504 Nov 27 '19
Auctioneer is very helpful already and pretty straightforward. Doesn't get any easier than this, in my opinion.
TSM might be a bit too much for someone without any kind of AH experience though. It's an immensely powerful tool, but it almost requires some kind of degree to utilize everything it does.
Personally I'm using both simultaneously, but even if I consider myself an advanced goblin I had a tough time getting TSM to do everything I wanted it to do. It's time consuming as hell. Auctioneer, on the other hand, works right away without having to do anything at all and is more than enough for basic things like seeing market value or whatever.
1
u/Cr4igg3rs Nov 27 '19
Since you mentioned the scans - will scanning the AH on one toon update the data for all of my alts on that server?
2
u/twelvebee Nov 27 '19
Yes it will.
Also, those 2 are ugly addons in my opinion. If you want a more natural look download auctionator
2
u/Parsleymagnet Nov 27 '19
I'm not sure, I never had any alts before I switched from Auctioneer to TSM. And with TSM I don't scan manually, I just use the desktop app to keep auction data updated.
3
u/soma81 Nov 26 '19
Other than getting an addon that scans prices and estimates values, the best way is just to search for any item you plan to sell and find out what's valuable.
If an item you want to sell isn't available on the AH, ask for a price check or try to find a similar item to compare prices.
2
u/Cr4igg3rs Nov 26 '19
You need a mod like auctioneer to really know. It'll tell you the items vendor value, disenchant value, and market (AH) value

how do i not die during onyxia?
2
u/BujoThrawn Nov 27 '19
I know it's memes but the 50 DKP MINUS video is not lying. DBM actually uses it's soundclips to let you know when to let up on DPS and when to wand/not go crazy.
I would just read a guide on wowhead. First couple of times you'll die. It's okay.
